This idea was a request from Samuel Dudek on FFN and inspired by artworks by a_drawship on Instagram. In the first artwork, Sprig and Polly are the ages we first see them in canon despite Anne being younger, so that's how it'll be here.

Also, now this is the longest chapter I've written, though it's more like four mini-chapters.

Act One

It's a Sunday morning in West Los Angeles, and for three best friends that means one thing: fun at the playground! Anne and Marcy had been playing together there ever since they were toddlers, and once they met Sasha she quickly joined their routine. One of the Boonchuys and one of the Wus were always there to watch their children, but Sasha would just be dropped off by her father and picked up later. Anne and Marcy's parents had opinions on the Waybrights' parenting but never voiced any of that around the children. All they need to care about is having a normal, fun day.

Little did anyone know that this day would be anything but normal…

"Anne! Sasha! Look what I found!"

Marcy was the last of the trio to arrive today, and she ran toward her friends with an object in her hands. Considering her chronic clumsiness it's honestly a miracle she didn't trip and break it.

"Mar-Mar!" said Anne as Marcy stopped in front of her and Sasha. "Your mom said you shouldn't run while holding things."

"Sorry!" said Marcy. "But look at this cool box I found!" Anne and Sasha looked at the object in Marcy's hands. It was a treasure chest-shaped music box. The top depicted a frog seemingly worshiping three colored gemstones, while the rest had designs of nature: trees, mushrooms, and a lily pad. "Thrift Stop had a sale on stuff that wouldn't sell and I saw the design and I knew I wanted it. Mom only had to pay five dollars for it."

"What's with the frog?" asked Sasha, looking at the box with slight distaste.

"I don't know, but it's cool!" said Marcy. "We can put our secrets in here and bury it as a time capsule!"

The other two girls' eyes lit up in excitement to match Marcy's.

"That's a great idea!" said Anne.

"We can bury it right here!" says Sasha.

"Yeah!" said Marcy.

She set the box down on a nearby table, then turned the key on the side to open it, with Anne and Sasha looking on intently.

Everyone else in the playground that day looked on flabbergasted as three six-year-old girls disappeared in a flash of light.

Three Weeks Later…

"Kids! It's time for breakfast!"

Hopediah "Hop Pop" Plantar knew he wasn't the greatest cook in Amphibia, far from it. But as long as his grandkids enjoyed his cooking, he was happy. All three of his grandkids.

It was very unexpected when he, Sprig, and Polly found Anne sitting on the ground near the farm, crying about wanting to go home. Normally Hop Pop would be suspicious about an unfamiliar creature but he quickly saw Anne for what she truly was: a lost, scared child. She was unfairly torn from her home and by frog, he wouldn't let her suffer anymore, especially because she had no way of getting back since Anne didn't have the music box. Maybe one of her friends did, but not her.

Hop Pop noticed Anne's description of the music box matched that of the "Calamity Box" in the family tome. If the box really was as dangerous as the book claimed then it never should've been in the hands of children.

He had sent letters to some of his friends across Amphibia to see if Anne's friends had been found but so far he hadn't gotten any positive responses. He definitely didn't want to think about how lucky Anne was to appear in a town and that chances were high her friends had been eaten by beasts. Of course, he never told Anne that. The little tyke needs hope.

The rest of Wartwood was skeptical of Anne at first, but it didn't take long for them to realize she's not much of a threat. Anne Boonchuy, the honorary frog, is now part of the Wartwood community.

"Incoming!" was the last thing Hop Pop heard before Polly zoomed into her seat, rattling all the breakfast plates on the table.

"Dang it, Polly!" said Hop Pop. "You know you're supposed to be careful!"

"Yeah, I know," said Polly with a sly grin. "Doesn't mean I will."

Hop Pop grumbled. He wasn't winning that argument any time soon.

Sprig and Anne came down from their shared room next. (Hop Pop offered the empty basement as a bedroom for Anne but quickly realized she didn't want to be alone in this strange world.) Sprig had formed a special bond with Anne that he never really had with Polly, dedicated himself to becoming Anne's protector from the dangers of Amphibia.

"Morning, Hop Pop," said Sprig.

"Hi Grandpa-hop!" said Anne.

Overall, she acclimated to living in a frog world surprisingly well. If she was older, then she probably would be put off by eating bugs for most meals, but little kids will eat anything, so here she is devouring some ladybug hash.

"Easy there, Anne," said Hop Pop. "You don't want to choke."

"Sorry." Anne started taking smaller bites after that.

"You got a favorite food back on Earth?" asked Polly.

"Uh huh," said Anne excitedly. "My mom makes the best khao niew bing! It's made with rice and coconut milk and she would make it for me all the time. I want some now…" Anne's mood shifted instantly and she started bawling into Sprig's shoulder. "I WANT MY MOM AND DAD!"

Sprig wrapped Anne in a tight hug which Polly and Hop Pop quickly joined.

"I know, Anne," said Sprig. "I don't care how long it takes. We will find your friends, we will find that music box, and we will get you home!"

"That's right," said Hop Pop, masking his concern well.

"Yeah!" exclaimed Polly before she took on an apologetic tone. "Also, I'm sorry for making you miss your home…"

Anne lifted her head up and gave Polly a soft kiss on the top of her head. "I forgive you."

Anne's eyes faintly glowed blue, Sprig noticed usually happens when she gets emotional. Must be a human thing.

"How is this child so strong?"

"I don't know! It must be a human thing!"

"Again!" said the giggling blond child, oblivious to her caretakers' distress.

The newest addition to the South Toad Tower was really giving everyone a run for their money. When Sasha miraculously appeared in the middle of the mess hall, Captain Grime insisted on locking her up indefinitely, but the strange child easily broke out of her cage. It was Percy and Braddock who convinced Grime that locking her up again wouldn't do her any good.

"I understand that we have no idea what she is," Percy had said, "but deep down I think she's scared. We should show her some positivity."

"Plus, we'll learn more about her if she isn't locked up at the time."

Grime didn't appreciate his soldiers questioning his decisions, but he also couldn't fault their logic so he agreed. How dangerous could one child be?

The answer turned out to be quite a lot. What Sasha lacked in stature she made up for in raw strength. After she accidentally dented one toad's shield quite a bit, Sasha decided to play a game to see how much damage she could cause. Every time she broke something, her eyes briefly took on a pink hue, which reminded Grime of some old legends he had read about, but it was probably a coincidence.

Most of the toads were enthusiastic about Sasha's game… at first. After seeing her nearly split a brick in two with a single punch, they realized they should've been a bit more hesitant to let her break things willy-nilly.

"I think you've had enough for today," said Grime, who picked Sasha up.

"Hey! No fair!" whined Sasha, but there was nothing she could do. She was strong but not strong enough to escape from an adult toad's grip.

Grime gently set Sasha down on top of a barrel. "If you break everything now, will there be anything for you to break tomorrow?"

"No," said Sasha. "You're right." She put her head down in sadness.

"Hey, I know what'll cheer you up." Sasha looked back up at Grime." "How about I whip up some of those worm waffles you liked?"

Sasha gasped. "Really?" Grime nodded. "Thanks Daddy!"

They both froze.

"I mean Grime! That's what I meant!"

Grimes hadn't seen Sasha this distressed since she first arrived. And while he might not be her father, over these past few weeks he had begun to treat her as if he was. Naturally, it came as a big surprise to everyone that the feared captain grew a soft spot for the human, but it all seemed right.

He put his hand on Sasha's shoulder in an affectionate manner. "It's quite alright, Sasha. You can call me 'Daddy'."

"And there I was, face to face with Ragnar! He thought he could trap me behind enemy lines, but little did he know that I, Yunan, Scourge of the Sand Wars, was the one who led him toward a trap! For he did not realize that I had sabotaged his army's weapons! Their swords fell off their hilts, leaving them unarmed when I unleashed the full force of Newtopia upon them! And for my accomplishments, I was promoted to general of the great Newtopian Army, the youngest newt to achieve that rank in history!"

"Wow!" said Marcy, bouncing up and down in excitement. "You're so cool, General Yunan!"

"That is correct!" replied the general.

"Careful, Marcy dear," said Lady Olivia. "It's hard for me to style your hair when you're moving around so much."

"Oops, sorry!"

Marcy enjoyed spending time with Lady Olivia and General Yunan, who did as much as they could to make Marcy's time in Newtopia as enjoyable as possible. Olivia showered Marcy with motherly affection and Yunan raised her spirits whenever she regaled the child with tales of her military excursions.

Both newts were also there to comfort Marcy whenever she got depressed. The Taiwanese girl felt immense guilt for accidentally getting her friends trapped in Amphibia, especially since she had no way of knowing if Anne and Sasha were even alive. King Andrias had sent soldiers and written reports out across the continent but the other humans haven't been found.

Right now, the three of them were sitting in the throne room. Olivia braided Marcy's hair as the girl and the general exchanged tales.

"I can't speak for anyone else but my life had grown quite dull before you came here," said Olivia. "You've really livened things up here in Newtopia.

"I still can't believe this world is real!" said Marcy. "It feels like I got sucked into a video game."

"Is 'video' an Earth thing?" asked Olivia, intrigued.

"Huh? Oh yeah, video games are really popular on Earth!" Marcy loved explaining things. "They're electronic games that people program onto cartridges and discs with graphics which have gotten better over time like the first video games from 30 years ago are really basic but the ones from right now look sort of realistic!"

"I don't know what some of those words mean, but video games sound fun!" said Yunan.

"There are many types of games, but I think the most popular are platformers and RPGs. Platformers are ones where the character runs around and jumps and in RPGs you take turns in fun battles! I like the ones with cute creatures like Kirby and Pokémon. Animal Crossing is also really cute, that's a game where…"

Andrias sat on his throne watching the interaction with a smile. If you told him a month ago he would be happily watching two of his most trusted newts play with a human child, he would've called you insane, but here we are.

It was quite shocking when Marcy appeared out of thin air right in front of the throne in the middle of a meeting, but luckily Olivia managed to handle the situation. The Core told Andrias that the olm prophecy is finally coming to pass and he must kill the child as soon as he gets the chance. He had detested following the Core's commands for the past 1000 years and decided being ordered to murder a child was the last straw.

Andrias managed to convince his master that until the music box and the other two humans are found, sheltering Marcy in Newtopia is the best option. He constantly hears his father's voice whispering in his head not to get too attached to the child, but it's too late. He's already decided he'd do everything in his power to protect Marcy, and if that means destroying the Core then so be it. There's a good chance that his plan won't work, but that won't stop him from trying.

The king's smile widened when he saw Marcy's brown eyes flash with traces of bright green. Yes, he will overthrow his master, and Marcy's gift of wit will help him.

Author's Note: Why do none of them have the box? It's because Marcy put the box down on a table before opening it. Anne ended up with the box in canon (presumably) because she was holding it when she opened it. Here, the box ended up somewhere else in Amphibia apart from the trio because it was on a table. That's also why the trio spawned in slightly different locations.

Not sure how often this'll update, but there will be more!
