Chapter 5:
Separated
When Jessa awoke the next morning, her head hurt, and she felt dazed. She had just had the weirdest dream that a giant man had come and told her and Harry that they were magical, and that Harry (who was famous) was going off to a school for wizards and witches.
By now, her eyes had adjusted to the dim light. Putting on her glasses, she saw the giant of a man she had dreamed about lying of the couch. For some reason, she screamed, though she quickly clamped a hand over her mouth.
Harry jolted up right, awakened by his sister's scream.
"Jessa? What's wrong?"
She just shook her head, and pointed at Hagrid. Harry turned, and seeing the Keeper of Keys, starting laughing, eyes wide.
"So it was real." he said softly.
Hagrid yawned loudly, sat up, and stretched.
"Best be off, Harry, lots ter do today, gotta get up ter London an' buy all yer stuff fer school."
"What about me?" the younger Potter child asked. Hagrid looked at her, a bit of sadness filling his eyes.
"Er, sorry Jessa. But Professor Dumbedore, ye see, he said fer me only ter take Harry, here, considerin' you can't go off ter Hogwarts yet. Don't worry. You'll get ter go next year." Hagrid said. Harry looked over at his sister, who had a sad, bewildered look in her eyes. He walked over to her.
Harry looked over at his sister and walked over to her upon seeing the sad, bewildered look in her hazel eyes.
"It's okay, Jessa. You'll be okay and I'll tell you all about it when Hagrid drops me off, yeah?"
"Yeah. Alright. I'll see you later then. Have fun," she replied, trying to sound cheerful for her brother's sake. She was happy for him.
While Harry got to begin his new adventure, the Dursleys and Jessa drove back to Number 4 Private Drive. Upon arriving, she was ordered into her closet, where she stayed put until Harry arrived home.
Uncle Vernon was in a right state. Aunt Petunia and Dudley weren't much better, given the shock of the past few days and of course – his pig's tail.
When Harry arrived home, late that evening, he immediately went to his sister's "room", and began telling her everything, from Gringotts bank, and the fortune their parents had left them, to meeting the pale boy in Madame Malkin's, to Olivander's wand shop, to receiving Hedwig, his beautiful snowy owl to the Leaky Cauldron, and everyone shaking his hand when they arrived there.
"The only thing that really bothers me is that I'm famous and I can't even remember what I'm famous for."
"At least you're famous. People want to know you," Jessa muttered, the first time she had talked since Harry arrived home. Harry stared at his sister, who sighed, and pulled her knees to her chest.
"I'm sorry, Harry. It's just…you get to go away to a cool place to learn magic and I'm stuck here, with the Durselys. You're famous and everyone's going to want to be your friend, and…and…and I'm just another little girl. It just doesn't seem fair, Harry. Especially if we both survived the same night. I'm happy for you, but I wish you didn't have to go."
Harry moved closer to his sister and wrapped his arms around her.
"Jessa, I'll always be your big brother. But just think: when you come next year, you can just join in with my group. I'll be able to show you around, help you get comfortable. And you won't be just another little girl; you're my little sister. I promise I'll write to you."
