Author's Headnote: WARNING: I MAY TAKE LIBERTIES WITH CANON AND CHARACTER BEHAVIOR! Yes, I wrote the actual first chapter ahead of time. Because why the heck not? Since I wrote this without any reviews it's probably going to be as sucky as the Prologue. So here we go again. RWBY Is owned by Roosterteeth and the late Monty Oum. Any original characters that I make (which I'll likely forget that they exist), is owned by me, I hope.

End of Main character status report

Unknown Location, 10:36 PM, Monday, Unknown Sub-Location.

Ruby woke up, but not in her bunk bed, but in dry, rocky, tomb. She checks for her supplies and equipment, apparently her apprehenders didn't touch Crescent Rose, or her note, or her scroll. Speaking of her scroll, she checked up on it. She noticed 2 things: 1, there's no signal, 2, her aura is at 75%, and it's not recovering. That's odd, why would her aura not regenerate? It's something that happens on its own, unless of course there's something on Ruby that is inhibiting her aura recovery in some way. Ruby checked to see if her kidnapper added an article of clothing onto her, ranging from over to under. Nope, nothing new, so what's going on? Why isn't her aura recovering?

Ruby tried to remember what happened before, a Man, with some sort of weird veiny lips, being saved from beowulf. Man offers reward, Ruby refuses, Ruby couldn't move, man bites Ruby. Wait, biting? As like vampires from those old legends? That likely wouldn't explain her aura not healing, so she investigated the room. It was surprisingly bright, despite there being no lighting whatsoever. There was no bed, Ruby was sleeping on the floor, and next to her was a coffin. She is freaking out right now.

Were they planning to kill me, but thought against it? Am I poisoned? Calm down Ruby, calm down, this is all just a dream, you just need to find a mirror and pinch yourself and you'd wake up, in your bed, right below Weiss, and across Yang.

Coincidentally, the room Ruby was in had a mirror. She looked at the mirror, she can see her reflection from the reflective aluminum. She noticed that her skin was paler, and the veins around her lips were more expressive, and purple. But not veiny, it's just the color that's expressive. Upon staring at her reflection, she checked her heart for a pulse, nothing, her heart wasn't beating. She pinched herself and... nope, she was still here.

Wait... I don't happen to be a...

She opened her mouth and checked her teeth, her fangs have in fact, gotten longer. As if they were not for ripping but for biting.

She pauses for a second, denying the reality for a brief moment. All the symptoms are there, just like in those old legends and video-games.

She has become a monster, a vampire. Vampire or no, her aura should recover, so why isn't it? Well, she doesn't have any lessons on 'Vampirism 101' so who knows? Maybe the fact that her soul is in a dead body halts the recovery of Aura to a degree, so she probably has to be more careful from now. But it matters little now! She has to get out of here, and back to Beacon, probably need to get something to protect her from the sun, and something to hide her mouth to hide her dead-obvious vampiric symptoms numbers 1 and 2. Windows are fine, maybe? She really needs to find a book on this stuff to study later.

She just needs to prioritize escaping the catacombs. She can stop to comprehend her the status of her life... although life wouldn't be an appropriate term anymore for Ruby.

Let's see here, coffin, mirror, grated door, commonly used for old prison cells. She tries to open it and... of course it's locked. The door, locked so be it, is still old, so she twists the door-handle rapidly, faster, faster, faster!

BREAK!

The Door lock broke and now she's free to leave! Now here's the question: where does she go? She has no Idea where she is. And the scroll's map feature requires a signal from the CCT. So, she has to find one of the older maps. As she looks around, she notices there's more cells around here, most of them contain human and faunas (mostly the latter) in a tranquil state, they likely don't even know they're there. As for the other cells, they contain Newborn vampires, much like herself. All of them appear to be Valean, but not all of them take residence from the city of Vale or patch, she doesn't even recognize any of these people. It's likely a bad Idea to let them out, a bunch of newborn vampires cause havoc among the populace (no, the irony is not lost on her), and the non-vampire prisoners are likely a lost cause.

Wait, someone's coming! Gotta get back to my cell and act like I never woke up to avoid suspicion.

Ruby rushed back to her cell and lay down in the position she found herself in, thankfully it was towards the door. She sees 2 older vampires, likely picking out between the newborns, she doesn't recognize any of them. She hears a door being opened and someone being stabbed, followed by... disintegration? Oh, great... culling! Likely choosing between which of the newborn vampires they actually want among their ranks, and which ones are mistakes. Another door is opened, and then...

Ew Ew Ew Ew! I can hear him (or her) drinking from one of the prisoners, it's LOUD!

After a whole minute of that loud and unpleasant slurping, it stopped; Ruby is relieved that it stopped. 20-ish disintegrations later, she sees the vampires are walking toward her cell. They stop, and... walk past it. Time to follow the Vampires, perhaps they lead toward a map, or an exit. After 1 minute has passed, she quietly opened her cell door and followed the 2 older vampires. As she is following them, she is paying attention to their conversation.

"Why is it whenever one of the higher-ups turns someone, it's always fine? But we have to ask permission? Bah!" the first one said.

"I don't understand the gist of turning someone in the first place, It's basically less blood for us." The second one said.

"It's to replenish our numbers, if there's only 1 vampire in a city, they wouldn't be around for long."

"Ever since the Blood-bags did their war, the blood-bag to vampire ratio is at a thin difference in Vale, not sure about the other 3 kingdoms."

"The city or the kingdom of Vale? Why do we name these places after the capital? And who named the capital?"

"I don't know. Point is, in some places, there's more of us than there are of them. We can't turn nobody unless it's really important."

"So why do the older ones get to do it without permission?"

"Because they know what they're doing."

"I had to cull a bunch of the fledglings 2 hours ago, we only came back because I missed one."

"I was thirsty..."

"Yes, I bet you made some of the spared fledglings thirsty when they heard your loud sucking! Learn to close your lips when you're draining!"

"The cattle couldn't hear us anyway."

"And you wonder why you're not allowed to leave the catacombs!"

The Vale catacombs? That's where the kings of Old Vale are buried. Makes sense why vampires would chill in the catacombs, no sunlight, no problem; vampires would have security across all hours of the clock. Ruby's relieved to know where she is, problem is she doesn't know how to exit the catacombs! She's never been there! The only option she has is to follow these two loose-lipped vampire mooks.

"Hey, where are you going you idiot!? We're supposed to go and check up on the thralls and fledglings in the other cell block, not go to the outer tombs!" The first one said.

"Why do these catacombs have prison cells anyway? Isn't it a bit weird to lock someone up in the same place you bury your dead?" The second one said.

"Don't Ask me, ask King Valencon IV, he had people dig up prison cells here so he didn't have to bury the people he imprisoned."

"So why didn't the next King remove them and you know, put stuff a normal catacomb would have?"

"I don't know, do I look like a historian? I have no time to give out exposition!"

Ruby lost track on the conversation as soon as she headed towards the outer tombs, likely leading to the exit.

Vale Catacombs, 11:11PM, Monday, Outer Tombs

The Vale Catacombs were dark with very dim light. Most of the infrastructure was stone with some wooden supports around it, comparable to a mine. Although the flooring wasn't wooden.. just the couple of columns around it. it was abandoned for the graveyard near the agricultural district awhile ago. And the council had outright banned travelling here because there were disappearances here. And Ruby had found out just why.

Now this looks more like catacombs...

SHUT!

Well, that's probably how they prevent people from escaping, no matter. Now to get out of these catacombs! This is easier said than done, since likely every nearby vampire has heard the hidden door shut. Ruby has taken on common mooks and members of the white fang, but chances are these vampires are way more experienced, and smarter than the average mook. Ruby heard footsteps coming her way so she tried to hide inside one of the coffins. Unfortunately for Ruby, a Vampire doesn't sleep here, a dead body does... well, at least she can't get sick. She hears the vampires investigating the hidden door, it makes a loud opening noise and the vampires sound like they are going through it.

SHUT!

It appears the coast is clear. She gets out of the coffin and tries to sneak around, looking for a way out of the catacombs. Wait, what's this? Vampirica Encyclopedia Volume 1? Well, that's a conveniently placed object right there. Although why exactly would a book on vampires be in a vampire hideout? well it makes sense, got to get newly turned vampires like Ruby here in the loop. That's going to be helpful for later. She grabs the book and attempts to find the exit.

Wait, someone's coming, again... got to hide got to hide.

Ruby with her newly acquainted book, hides inside one the barrels, as if it was like one of those old cartoons where the main character hides in a barrel. Unlike a cartoon, barrels are cramped. She peeks out a barrel, and sees opening a door with... TREES! Yes, that must be the exit. She sees various vampires coming in: one male, another female, carrying another body, whether this be a 'fledgling' like herself, or another poor soul doomed to be livestock for these monsters (the Irony is still not lost on her). In the meantime, she decides to eavesdrop on these vampires.

"Our master has made an excellent choice with his silver-eyed fledgling." The vampire said.

"And one so young, she could infiltrate beacon for us, and think of all the fresh cattle!" The other vampire said.

"At least wait until they are mature. A butcher does not chop meat from calf." The first vampire responded.

"Some do."

"Some, not all. A calf does not have as much meat on them as an adult, likewise, you need to wait until they are ripe!"

"Besides the point, it appears the beacon plan wouldn't be far off, the fledgling had unlocked her aura before being turned."

"Oh. How interesting, she'd be a useful asset, if she wasn't higher up than all of us in the generational line."

"But we have seniority over her. Not to mention, we've been Vampires for centuries, she's only a fledgling. Sure, her vampirism is less diluted, but ours is more developed!"

"But even then, we have cattle to deliver, no doubt one of the guardsmen is excited for a new meal."

"He is so loud when he feeds."

"That, he is."

A fledgling...? is that like a child vampire? Makes sense in context, BUT I AM FIFTEEN! I'D STILL BE GOING THROUGH PUBERTY IF IT WEREN'T FOR ME BEING A VAMPIRE!

The two vampires than head towards the prison complex in the catacombs. As soon as the coast is clear, she ran out the door and now she's outside!

I'm Free at Last! I am away from those spooky catacombs! YIPEEE-ooh.

Her mental celebration came to a halt when she realized that her lips are veiny, her teeth have elongated fangs, and that she needs to cover her head in daylight. First order of business, getting something to cover up her mouth. She can't be seen with her lips being all veiny, it'll be suspicious. Not to mention she's a monster, who goes to a school dedicated to fight monsters. Sure, grimm are not as smart as vampires, but both are monsters nonetheless.

She's regained consciousness for how long? two hours? Ruby is thirsty, but not for water. She shudders at the thought of having to feed off others, having to adapt to her daily routine and meet the standards for both a huntress and a vampire. It sounds easy on paper, but here's the problem: despite Beacon being the most renowned huntsman academy on remnant, it doesn't have night classes, that means she has to take her classes during day time! Which would be torture for her!

But this is something she has to endure, if not for her, but for her team.

Author's Footnote: If you are reading this, that means you've endured reading my awful fanfiction! I don't know If it's actually garbage or not, but at least writing this doesn't take me a trip to uncanny valley (unlike my art sadly). So yep, we're going to be doing this, my unique take on remnant vampires (I hope it's unique). And like I said, writing is not my strongest point. Now to make you wait for the next chapter.
