AUTHORS NOTE, 24 OCTOBER 2022: Hello everyone, welcome to my rewrite of Familiar and New Dreams. An old fanfiction from back in 2018 that was meant as my own intepretation for a third story to the mainline games. I want to go over a few things to explain in case you, the reader, is unaware.

RECOMMENDED: This fanfiction follows up right after Klonoa 1: Door to Phantomile and Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil. These two games are the only ones that are vital to this fanfiction plot-wise, so if you haven't played or seen those stories yet... I would recommend you to play or see them first. Both these games are physically available, although a bit rare, on Playstation 1 and Playstation 2 respectfully. Both games are also playable on PC using emulators. (For the absolute best experience of these two games, i recommend DuckStation and PCSX2's nightly build. Please use a legal copy of the games to play them) Next to that, Door to Phantomile is also digitally available on the Playstation 3 and Playstation Portable, purchasable in the Playstation Store. You could also play the Phantasy Reverie collection on almost any modern system which includes both games in one remastered package. If you're really not up for trying any of these ways to experience the games... you could always watch them on Youtube, read a wiki article on the story or even just read the script online, if you still want to be caught up in some way. Or... you could just read without taking my word for it. These are just the options i recommend after all.

CONTENT WARNING: This fantasy-themed story contains action, romance and adventure. Since this website only allows two genres at a time, i figured it would be best to name a more accurate genre-description here. This story also includes violence/blood, death, minor coarse language (such as 'piece of shit' and 'bitch' yelled by certain characters like outlaws), deals with themes of psychology and depression, and lastly... contains lots of explosions. You have been warned.

Anyway, you got all of that? Are you ready? Okay then. Sit back, and enjoy reading my first fanfiction's rewrite. :P

There was this one dream...

A dream that changes everything, which i've seen to remember from some time ago. But... how?

I can't remember most of my dreams at all. And neither can anyone else.

But I was sure there was a dream that i actually remembered.

That one dream, where everything finally comes true...

Klonoa was floating around in the white of nothingness with no consciousness... He was wearing his blue cap with the Pac-Man symbol on it, an open red and yellow jacket, a black t-shirt underneath the jacket, red shorts, a light brown belt around his shorts, yellow gloves with the inner side of the gloves being white, and at last, brown and white shoes. As he then starts to hear a voice call out to him slowly in the distance... Klonoa slowly awakened, and tried to look up to where the voice was coming from in the void.

"...Noa... Klonoa... Return to our world... once more... Please... Hear my call..."

Klonoa saw nothing though... at all.

Klonoa: Hello? Who are you? Where are you? ?

Klonoa then saw a tiny bit of light in the farther distance of where the voice came from... But then to Klonoa's surprise, it seemed like something cut right through the empty void of nothingness, and it all split apart as Klonoa ends up falling through the darkness now... While still feeling like falling, Klonoa then harshly landed into reality and busts through the iron bars in front of him and onto the cold ground... into what seemed like a dark, old prison surrounded in fog. Klonoa immediately got back up and looks around.

Klonoa: Is this a prison...? Where am I? Who was that voice?

Klonoa then noticed a couple of round gray/dark blue armored foes with red and blue hair and iron swords and shields, as they entered the prison and pointed their swords at Klonoa.

Knight 1: Seems like our Lord's prediction was right... You shall not escape from us, Dream Traveler!

Knight 2: We, the Nighty-Knights have been commanded to keep you at watch, or to kill you where you stand. So surrender, or die!

Klonoa: Lord...? I don't know who you all are, but I will not let either of those things happen!

Klonoa then grabs his Wind Ring that was attached to his belt, and aims it right at one of the Nighty-Knights... Only to realise that he has nobody to power the thing.

Klonoa: Oh, whoops. Seems like i have no choice but to flee then... RUN! !

Klonoa then started to quickly bypass the Nighty-Knights after they were caught off-guard by Klonoa's failed attack, and exits the prison, running right into the wide hallway that the prison was a part of. Klonoa just starts to run. Meanwhile sirens started to go all out around the area with red flashing lights. They seem hellbent on capturing the Dream Traveler.

Nighty-Knight 3: CATCH HIM! !

Eventually Klonoa gets cornered by one from the front while running away, and quickly slides under the sword attack from the Nighty-Knight that went right for his head.

Klonoa: Where even am I? Who are these strange guys?!

Klonoa then takes a right at the end of the hallway, as another appears right from the left side of the hallway to attack Klonoa from the back. Klonoa jumps backwards from the attack swung right at him and starts to run further up the right of the hallway. Then while running, Klonoa notices a crack in the wall that leads outside and immediately to what seems to be a giant unguarded watch tower over the area. Klonoa notices the pattern of the bricks from the watchtower and puts the wind ring back against his belt.

Klonoa: Well... there's no other choice, is there?

Klonoa then uses his fingers to grab on against the edges of the bricks and starts to quickly climb upwards onto the tower, while all the Nighty-Knights were staring in awe, and eventually left, trying to figure out what to even do as they couldn't reach for Klonoa... It seemed to turn a bit more quiet as the alarms stopped. Klonoa eventually reached the top of the watch tower and tried to catch up with his breath... Klonoa just calmly watched on over the entire place from the watchtower over the dark, cloudy and nightmary sky.

Klonoa: Whew... whew... i've gotta take a breather... What even is this place...? It feels like no other place i've ever been to before. It feels so... gloomy, and dark.

Klonoa saw that he found himself in a giant fortress filled with lights, even spreading in the far distance, as well as a lot of light purple and black colored blimps with a dark sun-like pattern on the front, flying over in the distance across the sky. He also saw a giant launch station, with a rocket in the distance. Unaware of what a rocket even is, or what this one would be for in particular.

Klonoa: Wow, that tower's huge... What could they be building there though?

Klonoa then noticed that another watchtower's light spotted him in the distance... the alarms started to go off again, as the light purely shined right at him.

Klonoa: W-wha?!

The blimps in the distance slowly started to turn towards where he was, as Klonoa looked all around and below him, hoping he could go somewhere to escape the fortress. But... Klonoa then heard that mysterious voice echo over the fortress yet again...

"Help our world once more... please... for my world...!"

Klonoa: Huh...?

Something in Klonoa's pocket lighted up, but he didn't notice that... As he looked around and then downward, Klonoa noticed a mysterious looking light green and blue portal opened up right below him. He quickly looked back at the fortress he was in.

Klonoa: I would investigate what this place is, but... I need to escape from here first.

Klonoa then leaps off of the tower, and jumps right at the wide open portal below, as he starts to fall right through... But while falling through the portal with the light green and blue streams, Klonoa starts to lose consciousness while warping through it. The portal closes up, and the fortress starts to turn even quieter... Meanwhile from across the top of the launch station, a giant, ominous lion with blonde fur, a black and dark red robe, iron gauntlets and wide, iron cane was watching over Klonoa's escape from the fortress.

Lion: ...So he managed to escape from Vodania before i could finish him off... hmph. No matter. The dream stream has already been successfully broken. I will send all my minions to go after him and finish the job wherever he will go to, before he could destroy any of my plans.

The lion then slowly started to smirk in an evil manner, and said...

"The awakening of the Noctis Sol cannot be stopped by someone like him."

KLONOA 3: Familiar and New Dreams

The Return to Phantomile

~ VISON 1-1: I feel like i've been here before ~

Around a pretty big lake north of a village atop of the plains of the land, at early in the morning... there was a regular cabbit with black fur on his ears and black hair, white fur around his muzzle, light gray eyes and a slightly brown nose, who was wearing light blue overalls and light gray shoes. He was fishing at the lake, and almost falls asleep. Then his rod moves a tiny bit, waking the cabbit immediately back up.

Cabbit: Did i finally get bait?!

He then started to quickly pull back the rod... But nothing appeared. The lake still started to shake a bit though.

Cabbit: What was that...? Was that a giant fish...? But, the bait wasn't taken at all...

Then as the entire area becomes more windy and windy, the Cabbit tried to look at the lake as it starts to rumble even harder.

Cabbit: What's going on now?!

Then Klonoa's unconscious body launches right out of the water, with the Cabbit staring at him in awe... as he then fell back into the lake, floating on the surface of the water. The wind and rumbling stopped, as the cabbit just kept staring.

Cabbit: Who is that...? Where did he come from? He looks somewhat familiar to our own race, but...

Eventually he slapped himself in the face once, back into confidence.

Cabbit: N-No time to be questioning any of this, Kio. You've got to check up on him!

The cabbit started to jump immediately into the lake, and swam right up to him, checking Klonoa's body.

Cabbit: He's cold... is he dead? I wonder where he got that style from. Certainly doesn't seem like he's from here, at least...

The Cabbit then felt closer to the pulse, and noticed Klonoa was alive.

Cabbit: H-he's alive...! What should i do?! Oh, i know!

The Cabbit then pulled Klonoa's body with him to the edge of the lake, and then when he got out, tried to lift up Klonoa with all his strength in his two hands, while seemingly struggling a bit. He then tried to run for the south of the lake where the village was located, as quickly as he could...

Klonoa slowly opens his eyes, as the bright light from outside greets him coming from a window... He heavily yawns, and as he manages to stop squinting, he notices that he was in a comfy wooden bed. When he turns his head to the window, he looks at the window to where the light comes from, and he saw a wooden bedside table with his Wind Ring on it, and a small, dark blue and shiny triangular crystal next to the window.

Klonoa: The Wind Ring... But where...?

Cabbit: Good morning... Traveler.

The cabbit from earlier finally approaches Klonoa from the front of the bed, and smiled up. Klonoa found that he was in a wooden/brick house, with a stone hearth turned on.

Cabbit: No need to worry. You're at my house.

Klonoa: ...What happened? I was escaping from a fortress, and then i jumped into a portal... But...

Klonoa seemed to be pondering a lot to himself, as the Cabbit scratched his head a bit.

Cabbit: A fortress? Portal? What are you talking about?

Klonoa: Nevermind... So you were the one who found me?

Cabbit: Yep. You were afloat at a lake close to the village earlier this morning. I figured you might be cold, so...

Klonoa: I see... Thank you for saving me. Uhh... who are you?

The cabbit smiled, and pointed at himself with his thumb.

Kio: Heehee... I'm Kio. A cabbit of the Wind Village!

Klonoa: The Wind Village...?

Klonoa gets up from his bed and steps out. But... just before reaching for the door, he noticed he wasn't wearing a shirt.

Klonoa: Umm... M-Magya?!

Klonoa then looked down, completely flustered and covers his entire body with the bed sheets. He realised he was wearing nothing but his underwear!

Klonoa: Where did you put my clothes...?!

Kio realised his mistake and ticks himself in the head a bit.

Kio: Darn, i forgot to put them back in the house from the clothesline outside...! Hold on a moment.

Kio then rushes through the door back outside, take off all the clothes from the clothesline just outside of his house and walks back in with Klonoa's pile of clothing. He then handed them over to him, as Klonoa got fully dressed in his now dry clothes. Klonoa then puts his Wind Ring back onto his belt. But just as he was about to leave, he heard his own stomach growl... But he just looked confused.

Klonoa: Umm... what was that?

Kio: What do you mean? You must be hungry, right?

Klonoa: I guess...? I only know that i feel weak in my stomach.

Kio: You never ate anything in your life?! How are you still even alive?

Klonoa: Usually i just go from world to world within a couple of days, and then i'm sent off to somewhere else, feeling fully replenished.

Kio: I have no idea what you are even talking about, but you can't just travel on an empty stomach...

Kio then noticed the pot on his oven behind him that was still on.

Kio: H-hold on, just sit down.

As Klonoa slowly began to sit down at the small dinner table in the house, Kio then quickly slided on over to the oven and quickly heated the pot up for a minute. Then he grabbed a bowl and a spoon, filled the bowl up and handed it over to Klonoa. It seemed like it was a sort of stew. Klonoa just stared a bit in awe.

Klonoa: Umm... what is this?

Kio: That is food. More specifically, Carrot Stew. A mixture from an ingredient known as a carrot. Just use the spoon to put it in your mouth, and take a bite.

Klonoa: I see...

Klonoa then carefully grabbed the spoon and took a bite. He noticed it still tasted... cold. But he didn't seem all that disgusted by it.

Klonoa: Carrot Stew, huh? It tastes rather strange... But at least i feel better now. Thank you, Kio.

Kio: No problem.

Klonoa: Well... i've got to explore this world now, and figure out why i ended up here. I was in the 'Wind Village' was it?

Klonoa then stood up, and went for the door. The village was full of windmills, farm lands and other wooden/brick houses that had red, orange or blue brick-tiled roofs. All the while, cabbits were doing their business around the village. The grass was beautifully green and the flowers were blooming. All around, Klonoa saw cabbits doing what seemed like their usual routine. Delivering ingredients and other supplies on wooden carts, farming wheat, and preparing to fish. As Klonoa looks around, he starts to ponder to himself.

Klonoa: I feel like i've been here before, a long time ago... The Wind Village, was it...? Hmm...

Then another cabbit walked up to Klonoa while carrying a wooden cart full of apples, and optimisically waved at him.

Cabbit: I see 'ya new to our village. Gud morning sir, an' welcome to the Wind Village!

Klonoa: G-good morning.

Cabbit: We do things at our pace without any rushin', and share supplies and necessities with others in need.

Klonoa: Yeah... thanks for the bit of trivia.

Cabbit: Hehe, see 'ya later!

The cabbit then went on with the wooden cart up to the north. Meanwhile, Klonoa, while still pondering, looked a bit further, and noticed something in the south on the edge of the village... Klonoa slowly started to walk towards it.

Kio in the meantime back at his own house, noticed the mysterious triangular crystal was still there on the bedside table.

Kio: He left this behind...?

Kio then carefully grabbed the crystal with his hand and went outside of his house to look for Klonoa.

As Klonoa approached the edge of the village, he finally approached what he saw in the distance... the wreckage of an old house. It seemed like it happened a long time ago. Klonoa looked up a bit closer to it.

Klonoa: This seems... all too familiar... Wait... Ngh...!

Then... it finally clicked... Memories flashed by Klonoa...

An eight year old Klonoa was holding his own Grandfather in his hands, as he was dying, right near the wreck late in the evening... Grandpa tried his best to stay alive. The young Klonoa seems absolutely devastated.

Grandpa: You're a strong child. Klonoa... It seems like fate will run its course...

The young Klonoa seemed a bit confused as to what his own grandfather was saying.

Grandpa: It was a short while... But it was wonderful. My great... child of the wind...

Young Klonoa: Grandpa! No! Grandpa! Don't talk anymore! !

The memories begin to fade, as Klonoa slowly snapped back to reality...

Klonoa was staring in awe with a blank look, right at the wreckage the entire time... He firmly clasped his fist, as he tried to hold himself in. Meanwhile, Kio arrived with the crystal in his hand.

Klonoa: So... i'm really back in Breezegale...

Kio: Hey, traveler! You forgot your- your...

Kio stopped running as he noticed Klonoa at the wreckage.

Kio: Your... crystal...

Klonoa then slowly turns around towards Kio.

Klonoa: Hey, Kio... How long ago did this happen?

Kio: Huh? Ummm... i'm not sure. I think it was around seven years ago?

Klonoa: Seven years, huh... Well, thank you.

Klonoa then grabbed the crystal from Kio's hand with him, as he plans to walk up to the north.

Klonoa: I need to figure out what exactly it is i'm here for again... And who called me forth to here. Thank you for all the support you provided me though.

Kio: Called you forth? Wait, who exactly are you?

Klonoa then stopped, and turned back around to Kio.

Klonoa: My name is Klonoa... The Dream Traveler. I used to live here with... Grandpa.

Kio: Klonoa...? So... it's true...

Kio then got on his knees and started to bow down to Klonoa.

Kio: Please... take me with you, Klonoa!

Klonoa seemed a bit surprised to hear that from him.

Klonoa: Take you with me? But... why? It will be dangerous.

Kio: I know, but... I was once trapped in a bubble because of those nightmare creatures when i was a child just outside of the village... But, i believe you were the one who saved me! At least i heard that name briefly called by that golden ring when i finally got out of that bubble. Please... The least I can do, is support you on your journey throughout the land!

Klonoa thought a bit about it, but eventually looked back at Kio with a gentle smile.

Klonoa: Hmmm... Sure thing.

Kio's face lighted up, almost as if he could cry from happiness, and shook his hand with both of his own out of respect.

Kio: T-thank you, thank you, thank you!

Klonoa: No problem... just don't try to fall behind, okay?

Kio: R-right!

Then Kio realised something, looking back at the direction where they came from and then back to Klonoa.

Kio: Can we make a quick stop back at my house though? I think i may have some supplies that could be useful for our journey.

Klonoa: Sure thing buddy. Let's journey on through the lands! Rupurudu!

As Kio got back up, Klonoa started to run with Kio trying to keep up.

Kio: H-hey, wait for me!

Kio quickly followed suit, as they went through the south of Breezegale at a quick pace...
