End of main character status report.
Beacon Academy, 5:00 AM, Monday, Ozpin's office.
This is the office of Headmaster Ozpin, the headmaster and dean of Beacon Academy. Has been for at least forty years. Because her dad says Ozpin was the headmaster at Beacon when he was attending. Which would explain why his hair is white. He does clean up well for someone whose at least seventy. Wonder who his predecessor was? Nah doesn't matter. The office is filled with clockwork gears, the sound of them grinding could be heard here. Although they aren't loud. The room was mostly empty save for a desk and a few chairs. There is a large window behind the desk, where all of Beacon Academy and Vale can be seen from. Given that he's a headmaster, protecting Vale and instructing the youth to do so is important, so it'd make sense for him to watch over all of Vale.
Ruby opened the elevator and saw Glynda and a gentleman in a military uniform, most likely General Ironwood of Atlas heading toward the same elevator. Ruby walked out. And in the office is headmaster Ozpin, obviously. And the Third-year student: Violet Jasper.
Ruby sat down across the desk of the headmaster. As instructed.
"Miss Rose. You know very well exactly why I brought you up here." Ozpin vaguely stated, in a slightly upset tone.
"I don't think I do." Ruby said confused.
"I've been headmaster for a long time, I would know if one of my students has been acting unorthodox. And I would know if their health is unorthodox."
"I don't know what you're getting at here." Ruby lied.
"Headmaster Ozpin knows your little secret here, so it's best if you don't play dumb and co-operate. Lest you wish to stall and get burnt by the sun." Violet threatened.
"There is no need for intimidating young Miss Rose here Mister Jasper." Ozpin lectured.
"Wait, Jasper is his last name?" Ruby asked.
"Yes. His full name is Violet Jasper."
"Well. That's unorthodox. He doesn't seem to wear any purple."
"Mister Jasper here is colorblind. Specifically, deuteranopia. He cannot see the color purple, or violet. Or any color that's not Blue, yellow, or brown."
"Oh. I'm sorry." Ruby apologized to Violet.
"Don't mention it. But we're not here to discuss my colorblindness we're here to discuss your... well... condition." Violet stated to get back on topic.
"Precisely. I know that you're a vampire, Miss Rose." Ozpin stated.
Ruby looks worried. As if she's about to feel like she's gonna get shot in the head with an anti-vampire gun.
"Please don't kick me out! Or hurt me!" Ruby begged for mercy.
"Relax. If I kill you or expel you, it would raise eyebrows. Many would wonder why the girl who got into Beacon early disappeared or was expelled." Ozpin stated.
"And why is that?" Ruby asked.
"I've been headmaster for a long time. And you know as well as I do that grimm aren't the only threat."
"Ya, there's the White Fang. I've been fighting them."
"The news reports did say there was more than fighting. It sounded like you were being a bit... bloody."
"Well... I wasn't exactly myself when those two events happened."
"Two?"
"Well, the one on Thursday wasn't me. It was two vampires I knocked out."
"Knocked out?"
"I don't kill people. If I did, what good does it make me?"
"Fair point. But vampires are a different matter. They don't harm society just by stealing and typical crimes. They kill and capture people, for substance. Which makes me wonder what you've been doing."
"I've been feeding off Blake. Don't worry, she volunteered."
"So... she knows about your condition?"
"Yes. She does. She even promised not to tell anyone. So not sure how you managed to figure it out."
"I've had my fair share of vampires in the past, I know a hidden vampire when I see one. And Violet's semblance allows him to detect the prescience of grimm and auras around him. You managed to set off his semblance. He even told me he had to feel your head to see if it was a red herring."
"There was another student I've saw who set it off. But she wasn't a vampire. So, I thought my semblance was going off. Not sure how a vampire managed to get past initiation without being turned into ash." Violet said in a serious manner.
"That's the thing, she wasn't a vampire when she went through initiation. It was a recent transformation. And I doubt you went to a party when you ordered Yang's contact lenses. So tell me the truth on what happened on the night of the blackout." Ozpin ordered in a light and calm tone.
Ruby sighed. "After I ordered Yang's contact lenses... I saw a man running from a single beowulf. So as a huntress, I went to slay it. He was mostly wearing red and white. Had black hair, pink eyes. He offered me a reward, but I turned down and went straight back to Beacon. But he somehow froze me, and bit my neck. Next thing I knew, I woke up in a dark cell." Ruby confessed. She went to tell Ozpin and Violet the rest of the events that occurred on her first night as a vampire.
"So, he just turned you without leaving you a choice? Curious." Violet commented.
"I don't know why he would have turned me; I didn't want this. But here I am. A monster in a school for fighting monsters." Ruby said.
"Yes, that is quite a situation you're in. I just needed to make sure your loyalties aren't towards Vale's vampire clan." Ozpin said.
"I would never want to affiliate myself with them."
"That's all I need to know for now, I will call you up after you finish your first mission. You may return to your team now. Tell them that it was permission to access missions for second and third-year students."
"Would I have them though?"
"Yes. Sacrifices have to be made to cover up the dark truth. Now you are dismissed."
"Wait, just one question. How do you know about vampires?"
"Well. Miss Rose. If you've been headmaster as long as I have, you'll start to see things that are unorthodox. Things considered supernatural. It's not hard for me to detect a vampire. However, I keep this a secret because vampires aren't common knowledge, and the fact that there are creatures of the night that drink blood would set off alarms and would attract grimm. Not even the capital cities would manage to hold out with that much negativity."
"Thank you, headmaster." Ruby said, before getting up and leaving the office. Well, that went better than expected. Although she's going to have to tell Blake that Ruby may end up seeing the headmaster much more often now. Her team's going to be relieved that Ruby's not in trouble.
Beacon Academy, 5:30 AM, Monday, RWBY Dormitory
Ruby walked in... and see's her entire team... fully dressed. And not in a good mood. Likely thinks she's on probation or something.
"Relax everyone. Ozpin just wanted to tell me in private that our team has access to missions normally avaliable for second and third-year students." Ruby reconciled.
"Well, that's a relief. I do not want to repeat the first year!" Weiss exclaimed.
"I was also worried my little sister has started her rebel streak." Yang said with concern.
"You didn't go through one either, Yang!" Ruby commented.
"Well, I'm just glad that no one got in trouble." Weiss said.
"Say... something just arrived in the mail, it was for me and Ruby." Yang announced. She was holding a cylinder mail tube thing. They're quick to deliver, what could be in that anyway.
"Let's open it!" Ruby exclaimed excitingly.
Yang went and opened the package... only to find something crawling out of it. It was alive... and a cylinder. Until it regained it's shape!
It's Zwei!
Ruby and Yang screamed in Excitement. Weiss screamed out of utter surprise. Blake screamed out of fear and latched onto Ruby. Ruby didn't notice the weight that is her girlfriend at first. But until she bent down and went to pet the corgi, only for Blake to pull on her, causing both of them to fall.
"Ow! Blake, what was that for?" Ruby complained.
"I really don't like dogs." Blake stated.
"You don't have to cling onto me whenever you see one."
"Just whatever, don't let it touch my stuff."
Then all of the sudden it sounded like Zwei was sniffing something. And turned to growl at Ruby.
Oh no. Zwei must think I'm a grimm.
"Down boy! It's me! Ruby!" Ruby commanded the dog.
"Ruby. Why is Zwei growling at you?" Yang asked.
"I don't know, he usually likes me." Ruby pleaded.
"Well, you better deal with it. I do not want our leader to be hospitalized by a dog!" Weiss complained.
"Relax Weiss, Zwei's not biting me."
"He seems to act otherwise."
"See, I'll just let him sniff me and hopefully things will be all better." Ruby said, before reconciling. She put her hand in front of Zwei's face...
The corgi calmed down to sniff the hand... and went on the nibble on it. Seems the dog recognizes Ruby... just not in the way she intended. Because the dog is eating her. Ruby yanked her hand out and the dog was just confused. Because she smells dead, yet doesn't act like such. Ruby swore she showered too... yet again, Zwei's sense of smell is a greater than the average dog, so no showering would cover up her smell for Zwei. She went to pet the dog again... and she petted the dog, it's good to see her vampirism didn't hinder her relation with Zwei... well... in the long run.
"See? It was just nothing!" Ruby exclaimed. "Zwei still loves me."
"Oh. I see. While you were petting Zwei, I read the note. Dad mailed him over for us to take care of him while he's gone for a mission." Yang stated.
"Just. Keep that thing away from me, and my stuff." Blake said in disgust.
"Well, I'm just glad that the dog won't be around forever. No matter how cute it is!" Weiss proclaimed passive-agressively.
"Don't we have missions today?" Yang asked.
"Ya. But don't worry, I have a plan!" Ruby proclaimed.
She actually did, just conceal Zwei inside a backpack, there's enough room there for him to breath and stay hidden. Although she just has to keep Zwei hidden from whoever they are shadowing. But that's easy enough. Although before she went out, she grabbed a couple of bloodpacks. Never know when she needs them.
Character Change: Ruby Rose - Blake Belladonna
Beacon Academy, 5:00 PM, Monday, Bullhead launchpad.
The Bullhead launchpad is for bullhead travel. Self-explanatory. Since it's the most common way to get to Beacon Academy since it's really high up. The most known way to get to Beacon nowadays is by bullhead. There were a couple of pathways and a staircase. But they haven't been maintained since the bullhead became a regular means of transportation. So, everyone just uses the bullhead... except Ruby apparently since she can fly up there, but nobody knows that. Nobody but Blake of course.
Earlier back, Ozpin made a speech about the great war and how it's a huntsman's and huntresses' duty to uphold peace. From there, Ruby went and selected the mission for mountain glenn. It surprisingly got accepted. From what Blake was told. Mt. Glenn was not a place for first year students to be at. Especially what happened around 20 years ago. But she's relieved that the White Fang investigation is going without interference. Yet again, Ruby did say the headmaster gave the team permission for second and third-year missions. Although Blake wouldn't be surprised if at least one casualty among her team is going to happen in this mission.
Before Blake could react, Ruby blitzed using her semblance to get in the bullhead. The huntsman they're shadowing hasn't even shown up yet. Well, Blake can't blame her for not wanting to die from the sun. She than went to ask the third-year student about the whereabouts of the huntsman.
"Hey, have you seen the huntsman we're shadowing for our mission?" Blake asked.
"I'm afraid I have to step in for him. He was too busy so I was tasked to cover for him for this one mission. And also, to record any historical records on Mountain Glenn." Violet answered.
"Wait, so we're going to be shadowing you? You're not even a licensed huntsman!" Weiss complained.
"I am a third-year student, you are first year students. I am statistically your superior. Now where is your team leader?" Violet stated.
"Ruby rushed into the bullhead; can't you see the rose petals?" Yang said.
"I see. Apparently, your leader wants to get this over with as fast as possible. Get to the bullhead, I am not the patient type." Violet ordered.
The three of them went to the bullhead where their leader and the 'hunstman' they were to shadow. Guess it looks like there will be casualties after all, considering that there's five students going to a heavily grimm-infested area. Let's just hope Ruby doesn't die out from being in the sun.
Mountain Glenn, 5:43 PM, Monday, City Ruins
Mountain Glenn was an expansion project (as known). And it failed (as mentioned). So, no need for going over the same exposition twice!
Ruby handed the backpack containing that dog to Yang. Whilst she sprinted towards the nearest intact building to take cover in. The rest of the team looks surprised... except Violet who doesn't bat an eye. Blake doesn't bat an eye either. She guesses that the third year knows about Ruby. But chances are he figured out by other means. Blake would need to keep a close eye on him. She doesn't want her girlfriend's unlife being at risk. Blake still finds it weird she's dating someone whose clinically dead.
"I see that you've brought a dog with you, let it out of the backpack." Violet stated.
"How did you know about Zwei?" Yang asked.
"It's my semblance. I can detect auras and grimm. Whether they be unlocked or not."
"That's not a very flashy semblance."
"Yes, not everyone has super strength or the ability to conjure up glyphs. I seek to be more perceptive on these things. Now let the dog out."
Yang opened the bag, and the dog hopped out of it. Blake is trying to keep herself contained so she doesn't jump on someone's head. Blake went after Ruby, but she was stopped by the third year.
"Why did you stop me?" Blake asked.
"Grimm. I can sense they are nearby." Violet answered.
"I don't see any grimm." Weiss said.
"Didn't expect you of all people to not pay attention Weiss." Yang retorted.
"Oh ya, his semblance."
"The grimm's entire pack is right behind those buildings. If we sneak up behind them, we can take them on by surprise. But we're going to follow them instead." Violet stated.
"What? Why?" Yang asked.
"Because. Killing them would give us no information on the source of the negativity."
"Can't we just blast through everything that comes at us?"
"Theoretically, yes. But the grimm prescence is intense for five students to handle. Hopefully you don't end up like the last batch of first years that came here."
"Why? What happened?"
"One, I don't give exposition! Two, your loud voice has revealed our prescence to the beowulves!"
"What?" Weiss said.
"They have spotted us. Thank your friend for making this mission a lot harder now." Violet scolded Yang.
Blake, Weiss, and Yang went in charging at the Beowulves who were doing the same thing. Blake doesn't know where Ruby is. But hopefully she can do some sniper rifle shots to help. And the other student Violet just got a...
Is that a handgun? Like. Just a simple pistol, no tricks up the sleeve. Just a simple, humble, pistol.
Usually, most people have a combination weapon. Or in some cases, just a melee weapon. But a simple gun is really out of nowhere. Sure, Yang could have just a shotgun. But shotgun blasts enhance her punches, hence the bracers. Having just a gun is not practical unless one is exceptionally trained in hand-to-hand. Even than, one would risk losing their arm. Surprised Yang still has both of hers right now.
Blake was fighting two beowulves. One of them charged at her, but Blake used her semblance to dodge the attack and countered by shooting a couple bullets and using a sword beam on the beowulf, and than went to stab the head of the other beowulf. Killing both of them. Yang and Weiss were both using their various tactics to handle the beowulves one on one. There were a couple sniper shots. Ruby is trying to help, but Blake can't blame her for being in the position she's in.
"Ruby, quit being a coward and fight them on!" Weiss complained.
"Relax Weiss, it's her first mission, it's ours too." Yang said.
"Quit talking and get back to fighting!" Violet ordered.
The four of them continued to fight grimm. Wherst Ruby was somewhere sniping them from a distance. This went on until the sun came down...
Character Change: Blake Belladonna - Ruby Rose
Mountain Glenn, 6:47 PM, Monday, City Ruins
The rest of her team have set up camp and have done the sleep-in-shifts thing they're doing to ensure night watch. Ruby and Zwei on the other hand, have a different plan. Ruby had told Zwei that she is going out to find the base on her own and wanted Zwei to follow. Ruby's vampirism is a lot more useful at the night. Although she does have to keep a low profile when spying on the White Fang. But she really can't concentrate on her mission when she's thirsty, she spent up all the bloodpacks she had on her keeping her aura up while in the sun. So, she has to find a White Fang mook and drink off of them.
She really can't use bird mode because she doesn't want to confuse Zwei. So, she has to stalk the White Fang on foot. And it's getting hard for her to think since she only had two bloodpacks tonight. The young fledgling did spot a couple of white fang mooks. Oooh. And it looks like one of them is suddenly walking into an abandoned alleyway, Ruby quickly followed. She went toward the lonely mook and waited... until... she pounced them from behind and went to bit their neck, the blood entering her mouth, sating her thirst is satisfactory. She went to let go and-
BONK!
Ruby was knocked out on the ground, and dropping crescent rose. Thankfully Zwei was there to retrieve it.
Character Change: Ruby Rose - Blake Belladonna
Mountain Glenn, 7:30 PM, Monday, City Ruins
Blake was the one on watch at the moment. Hopefully Ruby returns soon. Don't want to keep people worried, especially Blake. Although some time after... Ruby and Yang's dog came in, with Crescent Rose in his mouth.
The Rifle was covered in dog drool, and was still folded up. Which means it was knocked off with it sheathed. That means someone has taken Ruby. And not willingly. Most likely the White Fang. The dog, Zwei let out a large bark. Waking everyone up.
"Uhhh... Zwei, can you let us sleep?" Yang complained.
"Ya... I need atleast some beauty sleep." Weiss followed with the complain.
"No, you need to all wake up. Ruby's been captured." Blake stated.
"WHAT!?" Yang yelled. "MY SISTER'S BEEN TAKEN!?"
"Calm down Yang, we won't get her back if you just angerly charge into everything!" Weiss stated.
"Exactly, let's just find them before something bad happens to her." Blake said.
"Well, you're very confident of your abilities." Violet stated.
"We've taken down the White Fang before."
"Correction: You and Ruby have. Weiss and your other friend here have never had a report of fighting a single member of the White Fang."
"How would you know that?"
"I pay attention. Why else would Ruby and Blake need to bring White Fang disguises? Along with Weiss and your friend here doing activities irrelevant to that on the same night you exited Beacon with the outfit?"
"We were investigating the Blackout!"
"And I respect you for that, the Vale cops are useless."
"You don't have to tell us twice!" Weiss and Yang said at the same time!
"Jynx!" Yang followed.
"Darn!" Weiss uttered.
"Don't get off topic! Point is, our team has been captured. And we need to go rescue her!" Blake stated.
"I disagree, but we do need to find the base. And your leader is most likely taken there. Perhaps we could kill two birds with one stone. But don't count on it." Violet stated.
"Why?" Yang asked.
"If we don't do things perfectly, we could either risk your leader undergoing something she may not recover from, or let them fulfil whatever objective they were plotting." Violet said.
"So, we go after our leader, simple."
"Huh. Not an answer I'd expect."
"Why's that?"
"Usually, one would not potentially sacrifice an entire population just to save one person."
"An entire population?" Weiss asked.
"Although not commonly known, Mountain Glenn was built under a hollow cave network. The population had built a train network to get back Vale. But the grimm overwhelmed everyone so they had to seal it off, dooming the remaining population." Violet stated.
"And what does that have to do with anything?"
"You said that the ones we're searching for are members of the White Fang? Well, the White Fang has been hoarding dust. Dust can be used to create explosives. Trains themselves are explosive. Which means the White Fang are underground."
"That's ridiculous! Why would the White Fang try to breach the city with grimm?" Blake asked.
"It's only a guess. But a sharp one. It's our best bet we start by checking underground." Violet stated.
"Right. Let's go rescue Ruby."
Blake went and rushed to find Ruby. Yang and Weiss also followed. Violet came along too, but Blake knows he's accompanying them for different reasons. Violet also picked up and is wielding Ruby's weapon, in rifle form. Hope Ruby won't be too mad at him for mishandling Ruby's weapon. Blake also hopes Ruby's okay...
Character Change: Blake Belladonna - Ruby Rose
Mountain Glenn, 9:00 PM, Monday, Underground Ruins
The underground ruins are a lesser-known part of Mountain Glenn, used as a temporary settlement to head back to Vale. It would be perfect to establish an underground hideout. Which is what the White Fang did. Since Ruby is taken captive here.
Speaking of Ruby being taken captive... She's awake on a train car... being restrained by two members of the White Fang. With Roman Torchwick and his little friend beside him. Well, things have gotten interesting for Ruby.
"Well well well. It appears little red riding hood is our notorious White-Fang killing nostferatu. Come to think of it, it makes sense you're a vampire." Roman taunted Ruby.
"How do you know I'm a vampire?" Ruby asked.
"Well, simple. Our friend Perry was used as bait to lure you out. Once he was perceived to be by himself, he'd be bit by you. And than another member of the White Fang confronted you, and knocked you out as you were draining Perry dry. Surprised he's still alive."
"I had no intent to kill him."
"Tell that to Perry, and all the White Fang members you've killed."
"I didn'y consciously kill them!"
"Now you're saying that you lost control and kill them in a blind rage?"
"Yes!"
Roman was laughing out loud. "Oh red. You're too much. I honestly should have figured you for a vampire. Considering all the times you've confronted me was at night." He taunted.
"I wasn't a vampire at the time!" She defended herself.
"Did you seem to forget the position you're in? Take a look around. What do you see?"
"Lights that are turned off."
"Sun-lights. If I turn them on, it'll emulate Sunlight. As if you're in a greenhouse. You'll die slowly when I turn them on."
"So, you're going to kill me?"
"No no. I'll need to get some information out of you first."
"What information?"
"Well, one. I'll need the location of those other vampires in Vale. Where are they hiding?"
"How do you know about vampires of all people?"
"I'm the one who's asking the questions." Roman said, turning on the sun-lamps, on a very low setting.
Ruby can feel her aura slowly depleting.
"If you want me to turn it off, then you'll tell me. Or now my friend here instead, and she's not the patient kind, so unless you want to be grilled vampire, you'll tell her." Roman stated, giving the remote to his accomplice.
The small ice-cream colored girl was signing something. Ruby can't understand sign language so she doesn't know what she means.
"I can't understand you." Ruby said.
The small girl slapped Ruby and turned up the sun lamps... her aura is draining at a faster rate... The anger and hatred surrounding by the excsessive white fang mooks, thus and her own fear of death... it's too much for her.
I can't... control it... must break free... must... KILL.
Author's Footnote: Part two is coming soon. I'm gonna stop here because I figure it's a good place to rest. I had like many different alternate interpretations to plan out this chapter. But I'm glad I picked this one. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, criticisms, etc. Leave them in the reviews, unless the reviews don't work anymore. In that case, I'll have to work something out from there on out. See ya next chapter... hopefully...
