Hollow, that is how Kakyou's soul felt each day as he lay in bed. Deep in a sleep that refused to lessen, refused to let up 'til the Promised Day.
Once again he was wandering through his subconscious. Alone and without care, for that was what his life was filled with...
But then, a girl appeared.
A girl with short black hair and bright green eyes. Wearing silk Chinese style pajamas covering her thin, lanky form. She looked like an image from a children's book, but Kakyou knew that she was real.
The girl turned 'round, noticing Kakyou, a smile on her face, "Hello, is this your dream? You're a Dreamseer, aren't you?"
She smiled again, holding out her hand and leaning forward, "My name is Sumeragi Hokuto. Just call me Hokuto. And you are...?"
"Kuzuki... Kakyou..." he answered, a mournful look in his eyes.
"Hmm? Can I call you Kakyou? Only, Kuzuki-san is too formal." Hokuto asked, the smile still plastered on her face.
It was odd, someone being able to reach him in his dreams. She wasn't like anyone else that he had met... Though, Kakyou couldn't say that he had met many people in his dreams.
The girl began to come see him every night. She usually did all of the talking, Kakyou listening with eager ears about the girl's life and the outside world.
Hokuto made him feel... well, just made him feel. His heart went out to the girl, thumping slightly faster whenever he saw her.
"Kakyou? Is everything all right?" Hokuto asked, a concerned look on her face as she tilted his face upward.
Kakyou's eyes searched the girl's eyes; his eyes slightly glassy, filling with emotions that he hadn't felt in years.
"Hokuto-chan..." the man said, reaching his hand up to Hokuto's face.
He brought her closer to him, pulling her face towards his chest, the rest of her following.
Hokuto fell lightly into Kakyou's lap, softened by the yukata he wore.
The girl drove her face into Kakyou's chest, breathing deeply, taking in the smell of the fabric.
Kakyou held her close, somewhat surprised at his own actions.
But despite the surprise, he held Hokuto closer to him, feeling the heat of her body against his.
Kakyou's nose filled with the scents and perfume in Hokuto's hair. So sweet, so heavenly.
Hokuto was looking up at Kakyou, wonder in her bright green eyes.
Kakyou leaned towards Hokuto's face.
His hair brushed her cheek as he leaned in, playing across the skin briefly.
Then, their lips met.
Soft lips locking into the shape of the other as if they were one. It felt as though it were the most natural thing in the world.
Perhaps, just perhaps, there was now some reason to the longhaired man's pathetic life now.
Perhaps, there was now a reason for Kakyou to keep on living.
Perhaps...
