Chapter Four- The Storm
Captain Frederick Jonas Manson took his M240 and held it in both his hands as the two other SWAT officers checked their weapons and gear, he grabbed the radio and held it to his mouth.
"This is Bravo Six, contact at the churchyard, I'll keep you updated" he said putting it down.
The SWAT team watched some 30 armed mammals stand in front of the church "you think they're still here?" One asked "that's what Rouen said" another answered.
They began walking towards the door, as they did, Price began to count down "five, four . . ." Both officers Wilde and Grizzoli checked their weapons one last time "three, two . . . One" Price raised his machine gun and fired a sudden automatic stream of bullets.
In a split second, every officer in the top level of the church, minus Delgato, began firing down at the enemy, and a split second later the church was lit up by enemy fire as they scrambled into cover.
Price stopped firing and turned to the two officers "cover me!" Without any further explanation they began firing from the window as he grabbed the radio again.
"This is Bravo Six to Raptor One! We are under fire at the church, get here as quick as possible!" There wasn't a second of delay from the other end.
"Copy that Bravo Six, we're about thirty minutes away, stand your ground!" The voice from the other end yelled in the midst of gunfire.
"Price, there's more of them!" Grizzoli yelled as a bullet whizzed past his head and he ducked.
Grizzoli ducked after several bullets were shot at him and he looked at Price "thirty minutes!" He shouted "they'll be here in thirty minutes!" The lion looked up at the ceiling and cursed as loud as he could "fuck!" He grabbed his M16 and reloaded behind a wall.
"Wilde, how many are there?!" Grizzoli looked at the rookie fox, pinned on the other side of the window and looking at them "hell of a lot more than 20!" He said shooting his Mp5 from the window.
"Go check on Fangmeyer, Delgato and Mchorn! Make sure they don't get overrun!" Price yelled at the fox as he nodded quickly "you sure?!" "yes! GO!" Nick rushed through the door behind them and down the stairs.
The two mammals were currently being suppressed by a violent wave of bullets that riddled the poor back wall like swiss cheese, restricting them from shooting back without exposing themselves, Grizzoli took the initiative though, firing blindly from around the corner of the window, that's when he got a glimpse of how many there were.
He immediately got back behind the wall "JESUS CHRIST! John, do you have a grenade?!" The grizzly took one from his side "where!?" "anywhere just throw it!" He watched the officer pull the pin and lob it out of the window after holding it for a few seconds. There were many shouts before a loud explosion sounded, he took this opportunity to lean out and start firing, it looked like Price had the same idea.
He fired at the crowd of armed predators as they were distracted by the effect of the fragmentation grenade, killing at least ten and hitting about twenty, though the mammal beside him was quite literally mowing them down with machine gun fire. Grizzoli could see rounds coming from the other window that were much slower but still impressive for their weapons and Delgato's condition.
Just when he'd thought they had changed the battle, bullets began whizzing past him and Price as even more mammals entered into view "Jesus Christ it's like Khe Sanh! They don't stop coming!" Price shouted as they returned to cover.
He watched Price reload fairly quickly before he fired from the edge of the window, Grizzoli heard something while he was behind him.
"25 minutes Bravo Six! Hang in there!" He grabbed the microphone.
"This is Officer Grizzoli, hard copy Raptor One! It's really heating up over here!" The lion yelled into the radio as Price kept at it in the midst of a wave of bullets.
Eventually the bear leaned back in, his face clearly filled with rage as he breathed heavily "reloading!" he yelled over the gunfire "I'll cover you!" Grizzoli yelled in return, firing blind bursts at the enemy, which was sufficient in suppressing them.
Manson saw Officer Wilde return with Mchorn, the massive tank of a rhino holding the Mg3 from earlier "all of the entrances to the church are locked and barricaded!" "Good, Mchorn assist on me!" Manson said as he finished reloading, the rhino gave a firm nod and headed over to the two mammals.
Mchorn grabbed his large ballistic shield and promptly slammed it onto the floor in front of the window "SUPPRESSING!" The rhino yelled as Price turned to Wilde and Grizzoli "Wilde, Grizzoli, check on the other two and see if they're okay" "Fangmeyer is with them" Nick shot back, Price only pointed at the door "go anyways, we can handle this on our own!" The two officers obeyed and walked out as Price joined the rhino with the shield.
. . .
Richard Mchorn flinched as a wave of bullets hit his shield, instinctively ducking a bit as he saw Price join him "shoot as many as you can!" "Whaddya think I'm 'doin?!" He shot back as he fired from the shield.
But no matter how many the two hit and killed, there were more and more pouring into the graveyard. "It's like Vietnam! Their fucking everywhere! Gimme a grenade or something!"
The rhino reached down and searched for the requested item, and grumbled in frustration "I'm out!" The grizzly beside him cursed as loud as he could "bugger! Just keep firing then!" The rhino nodded again as he did just that.
The minutes went by like mere seconds as they continued their stand against a typhoon of criminals, that was until a very distinctive sound filled the air, one that for a moment, stopped Mchorn in his tracks.
Multiple jets flew by just miles away, followed by a sequence of loud explosions and multiple streams of fire raining down onto a section in the city that he could've sworn they were in before, Price grabbed the radio "holy shit did you see that!" He could hear Grizzoli's voice shout from the other room.
"Viper One to Bravo Six, SAM sites down, about fifty EKIA!" A voice came from the radio again.
"Bravo Viper One! We need an assist at the churchyard!" Manson said as Mchorn looked at the criminals who were in awe.
"Negative Bravo Six, that was our payload, we're returning back to base, Angel One should be in position for close fire support any minute now" He watched Price look at him.
"Hard copy Viper One, good hunting" He said before returning back to Mchorn "our AC130 should be here any minute now!" Price yelled as he began to fire again.
"Nice!" He said firing alongside the grizzly.
. . .
The sudden napalm strike took the mammals in the other room by complete surprise "holy shit did you see that?!" Grizzoli exclaimed in awe as he continued firing concentrated bursts down at the enemy "was that fucking napalm!?" Delgato asked from where he was laying.
The sound of jet fighters grew louder as they made a low flyby, there were at least five from what Grizzoli could see, he laughed in what he thought was excitement or glee as he continued shooting.
. . .
"Ten minutes!" Price's voice yelled from the other room "copy that!" Grizzoli responded. Catherine Snow was doing fairly fine with her sniper rifle, popping head after head with it while Fangmeyer shot beside her, they were both still injured but were holding up fairly well despite that, though given that he had no ammo, Fangmeyer was only using his M1911.
With every criminal that fell from her shots, Catherine felt a bit better, she saw it as vengeance for her fallen co-workers, her shots were fairly precise too.
For Fangmeyer this was almost as bad a situation as it was fighting the wolf pack, with only a pistol to fire with he was basically useless, he was astonished by how many there were as well, it was like a wave of them just washed in out of nowhere.
"How many of these bastards are there!?" He yelled angrily as he fired the most precise shots he could with his injuries and weapon "hell if I know! Just fucking shoot!" Grizzoli shouted beside him.
He could see bursts of automatic fire coming from the other window, it seemed like Mchorn and Price were doing far better with thinning the waves of criminals. So far though, none of the attackers had managed to reach the church door, but at the corner of his eye Fang saw a group of them manage to slip through, heading directly to the front door "in the center! About ten have made it through!" He yelled as Grizzoli changed position and managed to hit one.
Because of this sudden change made by the SWAT team, it allowed even more mammals to get closer to the door "Fuck! They're going to breach!" Frost yelled as Fangmeyer stepped back "I'll go! Nick!" The fox looked at him at the mention of his name "I won't be able to do it with just a pistol, you mind . . ." "On it!" Nick finished with a nod.
The two small mammals ran down the stairs as quickly as they could, Fang wished it could be faster but given Nick was concussed and he was cut and bruised, it was quick enough.
AN: Finally this is where some REAL action begins! This and the following chapters really show how much men Rouen has at his disposal and how the ZPD walked into something much bigger than they thought it was, but Manson is always prepared.
