A/n: This is set after the Season three Finale.

Chapter I:

Livestock Agent Kody Dutton was almost to the Office when his cell rang. He grabbed it from his belt and barked in his dep gravelly voice, "Dutton."

Monica said, "I was talking to Kayce and suddenly I heard gunfire and the line went dead."

Kody couldn't believe what he had heard he stomped hard on the accelerator and pulled outside of the office and said as he grabbed his Henry 30-30 yellowboy from the backseat 0f his blue/black 2021 Dodge 2500 Power Wagon, "I'll pull his ass outta the fire just like I did 10 years ago. Gotta go."

And with that he rushed inside.

As he ran up the stairs he saw the six gunman and switched his henry to his left hand and drew his 686 with his right and charged at the gunmaen. He killed two of them right off and got another one with a shot to the throat then the other three opened up on him. He felt a bullet tug at his sleeve as he ran toward the overturned desk that Kayce was using for cover. Kayce stared at his twin brother and as he quickly reloaded his 45, "Am I glad to see you. But how did you know to come in shooting?"

Kody replied as he holstered his 686 and downned a gunman with his rifle, "Monica."

Kayce nodded as he killed one with two to the head. When there was only one left Kaycee yelled drop the gun or we will kill you."

The gunman's reply was to raise his AR; Both Kayce and Kody filled him with lead. Once they were all killed Kaycee said as he holstered his 1911, "I gues I owe you twice now."

Kody replied as police stared to stream into the office, "That's right little brother."

Kayce grinned; even though they were twins Kody was born a minute and a half earlier thus making him the "older" Brother. He was snapped out of his reverie whren two Sheriff's deputies approached and said, "We'll need your firearms."

Kody lit a Parodi Ammezzati Cigarillo Natural as he drawled, "Yea that ain't bout to happen Chief,"

The deputies were mommentarily thrown off guard then one said in a more forceful tone, "We'll be taking your firearms."

The amused smirk dropped from his face and a hard granitelike mask slipped over hiis face as he growled in a low menacing voice, "Back off Johnny Law you ain't getting our guns."

The deputy who spoke reached for his holstered weapon and Kody hissed, "You pull that piece and I'll kill you graveyard dead."

The white faced deputies backed off as Sheriff Donnie Haskell walked over and after taking in the tense standoff said, "You boys can go. We don't need anything else."

The brothers nodded as they left.

Once they were outside Kody said, "You better call Monica and-."

Just then both their cells started to ring. They pulled answeed them and them the news they got was both horrific and infuriating. John was gunned down on the side of the road but thanks to Rip he was rushed to the hospital and Beth was caught in an explosion but she was saved sadly by her assistant taking the brunt of the blast. They locked eyes as they put their phones away and Kayce said, "You go check on Beth while I go check in with Monica and see Tate then go see how Dad is."

Kody nodded as they sped away.

Kody pulled uo the shattered building and quickly ran over to where the ambulances were parked.

As soon as Kayce walked through the door he was tackled by Monica; she showered his face with kisses as she sobbed, "I was scared out of my mind."

He wrapped his arms around her and held her tight as he said, "I thought I was dead but then this cowboy comes in shooting; baby it was something out of a western. Thank you for calling him. I owe you both my life."

She kissed him again as she said, "I wasn't goingto let you die; did you hear about Beth and your dad?"

Kayce disentangled himself as he said, "Yea; Kody is checking on Beth. I wanted to check on you and Tate then we'd all go see Dad."

Monica nodded as they got Tate and headed for the hospital.

When they got there they were told that John was still in surgery Rip asked, "Has anyone heard from Beth. I wanted to chek on her but figured my place was here watching over John."

Kayce was about to answer when a a furious and deadly Kody stepped off the elevator and said, She's right down the hall in room 332; go see your girl partner."

Rip nodded and was about to leave when Kayce asked, "Has anyone check on Jamie?"

Rip told about calling Jamie and the cryptic response Jamie had given then left. After about five minutes Kayce asked, "Wonder what's going on with Jamie"

Kody replied, I have a thought but you ain't goin' to like ot."

Kayce asked, "What is it?"

Kody replied, "He's in on it."

As he was speaking Monica was studying Kody and even though she was both madly in ove and lust with Kayce she could see that Kody was very attractive; he was a short man with a lithe muscular build; standing 5'4.5" tall, and weighing 135#. He had a wedge shaped face tanned by both wind and sun, broad shoulders, and a narrow waist. He had long shoulder length raven black hair that he kept in a low ponytail, piercing Sapphire blue eyes, and coarse black stubble covering the lower half of his face. He wore dark blue Wrangler Cowboy Cut jeans, LUCCHESE MEN'S HANDMADE WALTER BLACK CHERRY CAIMAN WESTERN BOOTS, a black Rafter C paisley long sleeve pearl snap shirt, a dark brown LIBERTY WEAR EAGLE BEAD FRINGED SUEDE LEATHER JACKET, and a Stetson 6X Fur Felt Brimstone Cowboy Hat. He also had a silver Montana silversmith watch on his left wrist, a sterling silver Figueroa chain around his neck a stainless steel .357 S&W 686-5 in a dark brown Gaklco Dual Position Phoenix Holster on his right hip, he had his badge clipped to the right side of his dark brown tooled leather scalloped Concho studded Tony Lama Cutting Champion belt, a Timber Rattler Western Outlaw Bowie Knife on his left hip a dark brown Circle K speed loader case in front of his knife. He also had a Microtech Halo 5 S/E OTF Automatic Knife in his right hip pocket, his IPHONE on his left thigh, and a stainless-steel .357 snub nosed S&W 686-5 in a dark brown Galco ankle holster strapped to his left ankle. Kayce askred, "You think Jamie could be involved in these attacks; what brings you to that conclusion?"

Kody was quiet for several minutes then he spoke, "He's done it before not to mention what he did to Beth."

Both Kayce and Monica asked, "What did he do to Beth?"

Kody succinctly told him what had happened to Beth.

Rip walked into Beth's hospital room and was both enraged and relieved to see her bruised and battered body lying in the hospital bed. He walked over to the bed and looked down at his fiance and ran his fingers through her hair. He pulled up a chair and settled in to wait for her to wake up. He took her hand and closed his eyes.

They were still talking when Chairman Thomas Rainwater his driver and Angela Blue Thunder walked in. Chairman Rainwater said in a voice dripping with faux sincerity, "I just heard about the attacks on your family are they alright?"

The Dutton brothers glared at the newcomers. Kayce knowing how volatile and mercurial his brother was spoke up, "Thank you Chairman Rauinwater. Who is your associate?"

Chairman Rainwater said, Angela Blue Thunder allow me to introduce Kayce Dutton, Livestock Comisssioner and his twin brother Livestock Agent Kody Dutton and Kayce's wife Monica Dutton."

Both Kayce and Monica said, "Hello nice to meet you."

Kody locked eyes with Angela Blue Thunder as he asked, "Whatt do you do for this asshat?"

She smirked slightly as she replied, "I'm an attorney."

Kody rolled his eyes as he said, "I'm going to see Beth."

When he walked into Beth's hospital room he saw rip sleeping in a chair cradling Beth's hand in his lap. He grinned to himself; he remembered when their father had brought a young Rip Wheeler home and declared he was going to be a part of their family. He become close with all of the Dutton children but especially Beth and Kody. Kody and Rip were like brothers. He shook himself from his reverie and stepped further into the room. He really hated to disturb the couple but they had to regroup aand figure out who had attacked them and strike back. He lightly touched Rip's shoulder causing the grizzed man to come awake instantly. as he turned he caught Beth's probing pain filled eyes. He immediately went to her side and gently cupped bruised bloody and battered face asked, "How you feelin' Beth?"

She smiled thinly as she whispered in a pain filled voice, "I'm fine what the hell is going on?"

Kody told her about their father being gunned down on the side of the road and the attack on Kayce. When he was done Beth croaked out, "You ran headlong into gunman with automatic weapons with just rifle an a pistol; are you a fucking idiot?"

Both Rip and Kody chuckled. Beth loved her brother deeply and out of all her brothers Kody was her favorite. She loved how no matter what he had her back and she could do no wrong. At first she thought it was out of childhood admiraion but she soon learned that they were the same and wouled defend the family and those closest to them. And that no matter what they had to do they did it for the family. She asked, "Who's responsible?"

Kody replied, " Dad said some guy named Roarke was the man who sent Wade Morrow and his son Clint after us. They're both dead. We need to find this Roarke character and end him."

Beth said, " I know who he is."
