Vulpix (Entry #037)

The Fox Pokémon

This Vulpix comes from the Alola Region where its species adapted to its terrain and transformed from a Fire Type to an Ice Type. Vulpix live in a skulk with other Vulpix and their leader, a Ninetails. These mischievous foxes freeze their prey with their breaths before consuming them. On a regular day a Vulpix can breath out cold air of -58 degrees Fahrenheit and can cool themselves down quickly on a hot day by making ice shards with their tails before shaking them off.

This Vulpix is female and knows the moves, Frost Breath, Extrasensory, Blizzard, Disable, Draining Kiss, with the egg move Flame Charge. Vulpix ability is Snow Warning.

Ash hummed softly as he looked over his new Vulpixs' information and sipped on a fruity virgin drink while he sat by the pool where he was waiting for Paul. The process in taking her in was fast and simple once Nurse Joy confirmed that she wasn't registered to anyone else, but he was told that there would be an investigation to see how she managed to get onto the ship and into the condition Ash had found her in.

Needless to say, Zoroark was ecstatic to have another fox-like friend in the pack and had taken the small Ice Type under his paw like he had done with Riolu. The only thing is; is that Ash didn't think it was Abigail Summers who had done this. From what he had learned about her is that she was a Coordinator native to Hoenn and had three national wins under her belt. She only took in the cutest of pokémon and gives them so much vitamins and other alternative medicines it was almost considered neglect and abuse.

He didn't think that she had ever owned Vulpix just because of the cute factor, and trust him Vulpix was one of his cutest pokémon. He would keep an ear out for any new rumors about her though. Speaking of her, Ash had found out, from Baoba, that she had a warrant out for her arrest on something completely different than what Baoba was going to be charging her with, and would be taken when they reached the Viridian shore once again.

The news lightened the burden on his shoulders. Instead of focusing on her, Ash could now focus on the tournament. He was thinking of having Nidorino and Doublade fight for the first few battles before letting his other pokémon have a chance in the later rounds. His strongest, Pikachu, Krookodile, and Charizard he would save for the later rounds. Zoroark was in the middle ground compared to them in strength. After this tournament was done Ash really needed to step up their training. They were nowhere ready to fight Koga.

A loud snort broke Ash out of his training planning and when the teen looked down he saw a small orange and brown pig looking pokémon with smoke trailing out of its snout. The red nose wiggled as it got a sniff of Ashs' drink and the small teen couldn't help but chuckle as the pokémon let out another snort.

"Tepig!"

The little pig let out a squeal and when Ash turned around he saw a tall teen, male like himself, with short styled blue hair and bright green eyes. The guy was shirtless showing tanned skin and abs to anyone looking. Ash tried to keep his eyes at a respectable level as the guy approached him and the small pokémon. "I hope he didn't bother you!" the teen said as the pig, now Ash knew as Tepig, scampered over to his trainer.

"No," Ash said as he shook his head, "No bother at all."

"That's good," the guy said as he gave Ash a smile, "I'm Zeke, I'm from Unova."

"Ash," the smaller teen replied as he stood up to shake hands with Zeke, "I'm from here in Kanto."

"That's cool. So are you here for pleasure or for the tournament?" Zeke asked as he moved to sit down on the chair beside the one Ash was sitting at. Ash sat down as well and let Pikachu climb onto his lap.

"The tournament," Ash answered, "What about you?"

Zeke sent the smaller teen a smile that spoke a thousand words and none at all. "I'm here for a little of this and a little of that. Mostly for the pleasure though," Zeke said as he leaned forward a bit into Ashs' space. Ash subtly leaned back as Pikachu let out a few warning sparks on his cheeks in which Tepig answered back with a snort and embers coming out of his nose.

Seadra, who had been swimming in the pool, surfaced and shot a warning shot of ink mixed with water at Zekes' feet near the Tepig. "It might be best if you left me alone," Ash said as a shadow cast itself over them both and a loud snarl ripped out of Krookodiles' throat making the other passengers look over at them because of the commotion Krookodile was making.

"I'll see you around then," Zeke said as he slowly got up and walked away with Tepig trailing after him. Ash let out a sigh as he thanked his pokémon. He gave each of them scratches in their favorite spot, causing some frightened whispers to pop up from the other passengers as he gave Krookodile scratches under his jaw, before sitting back down to wait for Paul.

Ash didn't have to wait long, maybe another half hour since he met Zeke, before he spotted Paul walking across the pool deck towards him. Standing behind him was a serious and proud looking Electabuzz, who had a small shoulder bag of his own.

"Paul!" Ash greeted with a smile as he got up and walked over to the purple haired teen.

"Ash," Paul greeted coolly with a smirk of his own. Ash felt his heart skip a beat for a moment before it began pounding into his chest.

"I, um, found your room for you if you want to head that way first," Ash said as he pointed towards the main part of the ship that held all the rooms, "I was right, by the way, you're directly below my room."

Paul nodded and gestured for Ash to show him the way with their own pokémon, beside Krookodile and Seadra, trailing behind them or on a shoulder. It didn't take long for Ash to show Paul his room and surprisingly, for Ash at least, Paul invited him in and didn't tell him to get lost so he could relax after his long trip to get there.

Ash watched, from where he sat by the window, as Paul surveyed the room and began letting his own pokémon out. Out of Pauls' pokémon his Teddiursa had evolved into Ursaring, Aron evolved into Lairon, Grotle evolved into Torterra, Abra evolved into Kadabra, and Elekid evolved into Electabuzz. Eevee was still Eevee and Paul had caught a Snorunt.

"Hey," Paul said, cutting Ash out of his observations, "So my Eevee had an accident while with my brother, Reggie, resulting in her having an Egg with the Ditto he had on hand. The Egg hatched, but I don't need another Eevee. Want it?"

Ash looked at Paul like he was crazy. He blinked once or twice as he tried to formulate an answer. "Wh-What," was all Ash could say, making Paul smirk again.

"Do. You. Want. An. Eevee?" Paul said slowly to enunciate the words properly.

"I-I mean okay," Ash agreed to it all the while nodding his head.

"Here."

Ash threw his hand out and quickly caught the ball that Paul had thrown at him. He sent Paul a small glare for the action before registering the pokémon under his name. Thankfully he was able to do it while sitting there in Pauls' room. After he was done, and had put the Eevee ball on his belt, he turned to Paul once again only to see that the taller teen was putting clothes away into the dresser the cruise ship provided in every room.

"So Paul," Ash asked softly as he fidgeted his hands in his lap.

"What's up?" Paul asked as he put the last article of clothing away.

Ash took a deep breath before licking his lips to change them from their dry state. "Why did you kiss me?" Ash asked after a moment of hesitant filled silence. He kept his gaze down at his lap, having not wanted to see what Pauls' expression was at the moment. Did Paul regret kissing him? Did the older teen figure out that he didn't want Ash like he had thought he wanted? Did Paul think that Ash didn't want him like Paul wanted him? The questions had run through his mind over and over since Paul had left.

"I thought it was obvious."

Ashs' head popped up to look at Paul with his eyes wide as the words filtered into his ears. "Obvious?" Ash asked while his heart felt like it was going a mile a minute.

"Yeah," Paul said as he sat down on the edge of the bed facing Ash, who was only half a foot away, "We've known each other for a while now and at first it was physical attraction that I felt. As time went on and I got to know you the more that physical attraction turned into emotional attraction and that turned into affection for you."

Ash, with his jaw hanging open, just stared at the purple haired teen for a moment before he got his jaw back into working order. "I-I," Ash croaked out, his mouth suddenly dry, "I feel the same way."

Ash watched as Pauls' lips worked themselves into a smirk again before Paul leaned forward, just like he had done a month ago, and placed his warm lips against his own. The kiss was slow and soft, just them pressing against each other, no tongues, no saliva.

"You're mine then?" Paul asked after pulling away just enough to speak against Ashs' lips.

"Yes, as long as you are mine," Ash replied with a small smile before Paul nodded and pressed their lips together again for one more kiss.

The day of the tournament, a few days after they had set sail, was greeted with a bright sky with bits of white fluffy clouds that hid the sun every once in a while to give a bit of relief from the suns' harsh rays. All of the trainers had gotten the first day battling assignments two nights before the tournament opening fights.

Ash was fighting that day, but Paul had decided before getting on the ship that he wasn't actually going to participate in the tournament. Ash was kind of disappointed since he wanted to battle against Paul, but he figured that he would get the chance to fight him another day.

From what Ash had read on the email the coordinators sent out there were going to be two days of preliminary fighting before the next round began on the third day of the tournament. From there the winners of the third day would go on to fight on the fourth day before a break on the fifth day. The sixth day of the tournament is the fight before the semi-finals while the seventh day held the semi-finals and then the last day, the eighth day, was the finale. The night of the eighth day the coordinators of the tournament had disclosed that they would be holding an award ceremony for the first, second, and third place winners.

"Nidorino! Poison Drill!" Ash called out as he watched his first caught pokémon dodge a Slash from the opponents Sandshrew. Nidorino let out a snort as he ran, as quickly as Nidorino could, with his horn dripping with his poison towards the stumbling shrew. Nidorino managed to make contact with his smaller opponent and sent it flying back to its trainer, poisoned and bruised. Ash saw that the Sandshrew wasn't done yet as the small yellow creature ran towards Nidorino with its claws shining brightly.

"Quick Attack to get away," Ash ordered, "Then use Confusion."

Nidorino was quick to execute the attack and just barely managed to dodge the Metal Claw Sandshrew had tried to attack him with. The psychic type move managed to make the shrew confused and it began to attack itself making its trainer call it back therefore forfeiting the pokémon for the rest of the match.

"Good job Nidorino," Ash praised as the purple poison type lumbered on over to his trainer. Nidorino let out a snort and wiggled a bit before turning to face his new opponent. Ash stared at the creature in pure confusion. It looked like a Meowth that had never been groomed in its life and had been jacked up on caffeine. Its fur was a light gray-ish brown and the tips of its ears and extremities were black.

"Meowth, Screech!"

Ash clamped his hands over his ears as he heard the caterwaul the weird looking Meowth made and saw that Nidorino staggered on his feet for a moment while shaking his head. Ash watched as the Meowth surged forward and nailed Nidorino with an Iron Tail. He wasn't even able to tell Nidorino to dodge. The reptile wouldn't hear him over the ringing in his ears.

What Nidorino was able to do was shove a single barb towards the Meowth as he was hit and managed to get some poison into the cat. Nidorino dug his claws into the floor to keep him from sliding off the fighting platform and managed to get his balance back in time to dodge another attack from the cat. Nidorino opened his mouth to release the new attack his trainer had given him before they got on the ship. A bright blue ball formed in front of his open mouth and expanded into a smaller ball before it released a powerful beam of ice that quickly coated the ground. Nidorino managed to snag the paw of Meowth with the Ice Beam, but it was enough to stop it in its tracks.

Ash watched as ice quickly formed on the ground and around the Meowth freezing it where it was in the middle of a jump. One second went by, then five, then another ten before the proctor announced that Meowth was done. Ash let out a soft relieved sigh and gave Nidorino a smile and scratch behind the ear. He would give him his favorite treat later as a reward for a job well done.

Ash went over to the chairs with a large screen that showed other battles from around the ship. Paul wasn't there watching him fight since his brother had called him again which Ash didn't mind at all. He just hoped Paul was going to be able to watch the later fights without much interruption.

The sound of the ship's intercom system rang loudly, to be heard over the sounds of the fighting and laughter, catching Ash off guard.

"Will Ash Ketchum please make his way to the bridge? I repeat will Ash Ketchum please make his way to the bridge."

Ash furrowed his eyebrows in confusion before heading his way across the deck. He ignored the stares as he climbed up the workers only staircase to the bridge. When he entered the room he was met with the ship operators and the captain himself.

"You Ketchum?" a gruff older man asked. The man had one eye closed, scarred over, and a rough looking salt and pepper beard.

"Yes sir," Ash replied as he nodded.

"Good! The names Captain Stew," Stew said as he placed some papers he had been holding down on one of the desks beside him, "Heard from Joy downstairs that you're an OFRT. I need someone of your status to help with a problem we got going on."

Ash nodded once again. "If it's within my capabilities I'll be happy to help," Ash said as he kept his gaze on the captain instead of letting his eyes wander around the room.

"There's a critter on one of the lower levels near the engines," Stew said as he leaned against the desk he had placed the papers on before folding his arms over his chest, "It's small, but it has already injured several of my crew men that have tried to capture it. I need them, you see, to keep this ship going. Without the men we are stuck in the water if anything happens to the engines. I need you to capture this critter and get it off my ship!"

Ash hummed as he took in the information. "Do you have any other details on this creature?" Ash asked as Pikachus' ear twitched against his head.

"It's small, black, has some nasty claws, and it hisses. Other than that I can't tell you much," Stew said as he shook his head, "Maybe you can ask Jerry. He's one of the workers that got injured. He'd be in his room, W54 on the workers floor, or the infirmary resting."

"Understood," Ash said as he nodded once more before leaving the bridge. Ash rushed down the stairs only to go up the other set of stairs to get to his own room. He ignored the looks from his pokémon as he let out a groan.

"Oh, Arceus," Ash whispered as he closed his eyes, "Here we go again."
