Near Cerulean City, 2 weeks before first case and virus released
A young teenage boy walked on his way towards the forest to get some training done and also think about something's. He had very dark brown hair, that some could mistake it for black and gray eyes. His clothing consisted of a plain blue t-shirt, very dark blue pants, a pair of black boots and a black backpack on one shoulder. Walking beside him was one of the many Eeveelutions
He had just lost a battle against the gym leader here in Cerulean City; Misty Waterflower. She was said to be one of the toughest gym leaders here in Kanto... other than Sabrina of course, since lots say they end up losing against her more than once
"Leafeon..." the grass type Eeveelution said sadly next to her trainer
He stopped his walking and sighed "It wasn't your fault Leafeon. The blame is on me... I guess I got so caught in how we've been able to win every battle so far that I became cocky and overconfident. It caused me to lose sight of what was happening and also put you in serious danger with that fire type attack, her Gyarados seemed to have... maybe I shouldn't even be a trainer having made such a dumb mistake like that" he said recalling the battle
It had been going pretty well actually. He had won against trainers who worked in the gym fairly easily with Leafeon. Of course when it came to battling Misty; that was a whole other story. She had sent out her Gyarados to battle against his Leafeon. Of course he thought it would be an easy win, since Gyarados was a water type... however that proved to be wrong as soon the tables were turned. He had managed to get a few hits on the water type, but nothing seemed to work. Things proved to be even more difficult when Gyarados started using flying type attacks, but of course being the overconfident trainer he was at the time, he brushed it off and continued on battling. Misty had tried to warn him about stopping the match, but he said that they weren't going to give up yet. Misty turned away as she warned him to stop, before Leafeon got seriously hurt, but he ignored her again and was about to call another attack, when Misty ordered a fire type attack. He had no chance of telling his Leafeon to dodge and watched as his partner got hit by a powerful flamethrower
"I tried to tell you to stop, but you wouldn't listen. It's because of your stubbornness that Leafeon got seriously hurt. A trainer needs to know when to stop, even if it costs them the match. Your Pokémon is more important than a dumb badge or league" she had said before he rushed off to the Pokémon center
"Nonsense boy" a male voice said as both trainer and Pokémon jumped up surprised to hear someone else in the forest with them "One mistake and you're ready to give up" said the voice as both the teen and Pokémon could see the new person now. He seemed to be around 30ish and had a lab coat on. He wore a pair of glasses, had very dark blonde hair as if it were turning brown and blue eyes
"Who are you?" asked the teen as his partner got into a battle stance in front of her trainer
"Someone who may be able to help you out. You see I work for an organization that can make Pokemon stronger and also with the right medication and training make it so they no longer have any weaknesses too" he said and the teen had to say that it seemed almost too good to be true... that would mean that Leafeon wouldn't be in danger with fire or flying type attacks, but still he was suspicious and didn't want to take any chances just yet
"How do I know that what you're saying is true and not some made up thing to try and steal my Leafeon" he said seriously with Leafeon hiding behind him, but still ready to attack should her trainer command any
The man laughed and placed a hand on the teen's shoulder "I assure you I am no Pokémon thief" he said but still saw the disbelief in the teen "How about this. I'll give you my card and let you think about it. I'll even let you watch everything if you're so worried about something happening" he said and gave the boy his card
The teenage boy stayed silent as he looked at his Leafeon "I'll think about it. I can't say I'm not the slightest bit curious about all this" he told the man and made his way back towards the city
Once the boy was out of earshot, the man pulled out a phone from inside his lab coat and dialed a number "I think we might have our first test subject... he seemed pretty convinced with what I said, but is worried that something will happen. I want all of you to double check everything, since I invited him to watch everything" he told the person on the other end and soon left the forest himself
5 days later
The teenage boy and his Leafeon stood in front of the building the card said to go to. From the outside it looked like any other building and didn't seem to have any 'evil organization' vibes as he thought it would have
He turned towards Leafeon and sighed. Ever since they had encountered that weird man, Leafeon had done nothing, but distance herself. She barely ate, slept or even played with his other 2 Pokémon. He was starting to get worried until one day she walked up to him with the card he had gotten the other day in her mouth. When he had asked her why she had it on her, she pointed to it and then herself as he got the point of what she was saying. He hadn't wanted to do this at first, but after much persuading from Leafeon, he agreed and soon he found himself here
"You're sure you want this?" he asked her as Leafeon nodded determinately as he sighed and opened the door of the building
"Hello! Is anyone in here?" he asked as he walked around looking at the various charts that showed a Pokémon's weakness and their strength. He didn't have to wait long as a young female adult around 20 or 21 walked into the room and seemed surprised to see someone inside the building
"I'm sorry if you waited too much!" she apologized as the teen stared at her and noticed her name tag said 'Sarah'. She looked to be one of those people who allowed a person to come in or not
"It's no problem really. I just got here anyway so it's not like I waited much" he said and saw her sigh in relief as she walked over to the table
"What brings you here anyway? We don't get many visitors so I'm surprised that someone as young as you is here" she said and he shrugged and picked up Leafeon from the ground
"One of the scientists here said that there was a way my Leafeon could become stronger as well as a way to make it so she no longer has any weaknesses too" he told her as he noticed her stare at him shocked
"So you're the boy that Rick was talking about the other day" she said and smiled as she pointed down the hall "You'll find him in the 5th room to your left. I hope it goes well" she said as the teen nodded and was about to leave until he heard her voice again
"By the way, what's your name?" she asked curiously as the teen turned towards her and sent a small smile her way "It's Connor" he said and walked over towards the room that Sarah had indicated
"Well this it Leafeon... no turning back now I guess" he said and knocked on the door. He heard some people talking inside and soon he noticed the person who opened the door was the same person who gave him the card
"I'm surprised to see you! I almost didn't think you would accept" he said actually surprised
Connor laughed lightly "To tell you the truth, it was Leafeon who convinced me. She and I both want to get strongest. And I guess we'll take any help we can get"
"I'm honored that you trust us. I assure you nothing will happen. I didn't introduce myself the day we met. My name is Rick, pleasure to re-meet you" he said as Connor nodded
"Nice to meet you Rick. I'm Connor, from Eterna City in Sinnoh and you already know my partner Leafeon" he said and Leafeon smiled happily as she said hello too
"You must be curious how all this will work. Basically, you'll be here for 1 week in which we will be monitoring Leafeon. You'll be allowed to be with her the entire time, except when it's time to give her the medication required to give her, her full potential and get rid of her weaknesses. Are we in agreement?"
Connor looked at Leafeon and she nodded "Deal" he said, not knowing that he and the scientists just made a terrible mistake
1 week later, day virus is released
Connor stood with the rest of Rick's staff in front of a glass case where Leafeon slept peacefully. It had been agreed that they would inject her with the potential enhancer first and then the weakness removal after
"It's going to be alright. We've run multiple tests online and all came back positive" Rick said as he noticed the worried expression on Connor's face
"I know, but I still can't help, but worry that something may happen" he said, but soon shook away all the bad thoughts as he knew Leafeon was counting on him to stay strong for the both of them. The past two weeks were tough, but hopefully it would all pay off
"Sir, we're ready to begin" one of the younger scientist; Carl said
"Good, let us begin then. Stop if you see anything unusual happening" Rick said as Carl nodded and left to his station. Rick turned to Connor one more time "This is it. No turning back now" he said and the teenager nodded
"No turning back" he repeated as he smiled at Leafeon
The first injection was a success it seemed as she didn't show any signs of struggling or anything "See nothing to worry about" Rick said and Connor nodded, but still couldn't help the uneasy feeling
"Todd get the next injection, but be careful not to mix them up with the virus we discovered" said a female scientist; Alice as Todd nodded and walked over towards the multiple tubes. He looked at them all until saw the green tubes next to each other. He nervously looked at them trying to figure out which one was the correct one. The darker one or the lighter one?
"Todd! Today please" Alice called as Todd sighed and grabbed the dark green tube and gave it to Alice, who didn't check to see if it was the right one. She injected Leafeon and stood back to see if anything would happen
After 2 minutes of nothing, Alice put the empty tube on the table beside her and turned to Rick and Connor "Looks like everything is in perfect order" she said and Rick sighed in relief
Suddenly the monitors started flashing red as Connor looked around with a nervous expression "What's going on?" he asked with slight fear
Rick ran over to the monitor and looked scared as he read the scan "Something's wrong! This shouldn't be happening. All the tests we conducted never showed anything like this!" he said and Connor looked over at his Pokemon, as he saw Leafeon start to thrash around widely
"Leafeon!" he said looking at her
Todd recoiled back in shock and grabbed the empty tube from the table and turned it over as he paled at what the label said 'D-Virus'
"No, no, no, no, no" he said and everyone turned towards him as he fell to the ground "This is all my fault! I should have read the label"
"What's your fault Todd?" Rick asked urgently
"Instead of getting the right tube, I gave Alice the D-virus tube" he said and everyone soon went into panic
"What's the D-virus?" Connor asked not understanding everything going on
Surprisingly it was Todd who answered him "The D-virus was something that discovered not too long ago. We had a few samples here dropped off by a woman named Cassandra and were told to never touch it ever. I guess I can see why she would say that" he said sadly and looked at the struggling Pokemon
"Isn't there anything we can do for Leafeon?" Connor asked worried as he suddenly sees the grass type drop dead "LEAFEON!" he screamed and ran over to the glass case holding her inside
"Connor no" Rick called trying to stop the boy, but failing terribly
As the teenager got closer, he noticed as Leafeon's colours began to change. Instead of her usual green it turned black, while the yellow parts of her became grey. She slowly opened her eyes and Connor took a step back. Her eyes were a pitch black and she hissed when she saw him "Leafeon... don't you recognize me?" he asked scared
Leafeon kept her dark glare on her trainer and attacked the glass case keeping her inside. She kept doing that over and over again. Rick pushed Connor away from the case "We need to keep her inside that case. We cannot let her out, or she will contaminate everyone else" he said and Connor looked at him shocked
"What do you mean everyone?" he asked getting more scared
Rick stayed silent for a long time, so Alice decided to interject "He means that this virus can affect both Pokemon and humans. No one's safe if Leafeon gets lose" she said and Connor stood there shocked for awhile and then looked back at Leafeon again
"Then... I'll help keep her inside" Connor declared and took out two pokeballs as a Butterfree appeared and a Marill "We need to keep Leafeon inside no matter what... don't hesitate when attacking her" he said as both Pokemon looked over at their teammate and understood the seriousness of the situation
Everyone soon heard glass breaking as Leafeon was out of her imprisonment and glared at everyone present "Don't let her touch or bite you" Rick said and this caused Leafeon to attack him first. He was able to evade her, but that unfortunately caused some of the D-virus tubes to fall to the ground and break. No one noticed the dark green liquid on the ground as they all tried to get Leafeon into another case, but was proved more difficult
"Leafeon return!" Connor shouted as he pointed her pokeball towards her, only for her to appear near him in a flash and bite his hand hard. This caused him to drop her pokeball and cradle his now bleeding hand as he dropped to the ground
"Connor!" Rick said and ran over towards the teen
"NO! You said that if she bit us or touched us that we would contaminated too. You have to stay back or else you'll be contaminated as well" Connor said and Rick knew he was right as he looked at the others, only to half of his staff on the ground now nursing a bleeding wound, while the other half was hiding from the deadly Pokemon. He turned back to Connor and noticed some dark green was beginning to get mixed with his blood
Butterfree kept trying to use string shot to stop the grass type, but nothing worked. It was then Rick remembered that Leafeon was injected with the potential enhancer and because of that she was strong and faster. There was no way they would be able to stop her. Both he and Connor watched in horror as Leafeon jumped onto the butterfly Pokemon and bit onto his neck hard. Butterfree cried out in pain and fell to the ground, no longer moving.
"There has to be a cure somewhere around here" Rick said and noticed as Connor was no longer breathing and he wanted to help, but knew that he couldn't touch him. Instead, he ran over to the cabins, while Leafeon was distracted, looking around for anything that could help them, but unfortunately there was nothing
"Leaf!" "Mar!" "Free!"
Rick slowly turned around and saw Leafeon standing in front of him with Marill and Butterfree now in the same condition as her, with pitch red eyes looking at him. He slowly backed away from the three diseased Pokemon, not noticing a figure behind him. Leafeon on the other hand ran through his legs as she went for the door, many tried to stop her, but ended up with a wound in different places
"No! Leafeon!" Rick said and was going to chase after her, until he felt something bite hard into him and turned to see none other than Connor, but not the same Connor as before. No this Connor was now like Leafeon, infected with the D-virus. His skin had turned into pale grey colour and his once grey eyes were now replaced with pitch black colour. He also took note of the few green lines running along up his arm
Slowly a head poked out as it revealed to be Alice and she stared with wide eyes as she was right, no human or Pokemon would ever be safe again. She knew what she had to do in order to prevent anything from happening. She ran towards the door, not noticing Connor, Carl and Todd following after her with lightning-fast speed
Alice made it all the way to another lab and ran towards the computer, typing as fast as she could to let the other professor's and scientist know of what had occurred. However just as she was about to finish, did the door break and all 3 males walked in. Alice knew there was nothing she could do anymore and went to press the send button, but couldn't as she was thrown to the other side of room. When she looked up, she saw Rick as in front of her with the same pitch black eyes as the rest of the infected.
"Rick..." she said and now realized the true extent of the situation. She moved out of the way just before he could bite her and turn her into one of the diseased and found just she was needed. She aimed the weapon in her hand and shot her boss in the head. She was breathing hard and looked relived when she saw he wasn't moving anymore, but this came with a cost as she had been too distracted with Rick to notice the other 3 males all gang up on her. The last thing that was heard from was a scream and one more gun shot
Meanwhile, Sarah hadn't heard any of the screaming or the cries for help as she had put on a pair of headphones and was scrolling through her song choices. She soon noticed a gray and black blur as she took of her headphones and saw that the blur was what looked like a Leafeon
"Hey. I know you; you're Connor's Leafeon right? What are you doing out here and what's with the new colour?" Sarah asked as she bent down and reached to pet Leafeon, only to hear her hiss and next thing she knew, the grass type bit her hand hard
"Y-you bit me?" she said surprised as she remembered the nice and cheerful Leafeon from 1 week ago and looked at this new version with a scared expression. She looked at her hand and to her horror she saw dark green in her blood all of a sudden. She screamed as she saw some dark green lines appear as they started running up her arm and the last thing she saw was Leafeon leaving the building as she heard the sound of glass breaking and knew nothing more
There was no mistaking it. The virus had been released and Kanto would be the first of the regions to fall
I don't know how I feel about this chapter. I hope its good enough for you guys and try not to criticize me to much since this is my first time doing a story like this. I promise it'll get better as it goes on
