It was night-time when Max and Cy-Croc felt they could finally stop running and find somewhere to hide from those flaming monsters for the night. And that somewhere would be another cave. But this cave wasn't another cave hotel like the first one they stayed at two nights ago. This cave was a small cave motel that was run by a short staff of mountain lions, with the owner and manager being none other than Louie the Mountain Lion himself. Cy-Croc had enough berries, nuts and pieces of fruits to pay for one night for two people in one of Louie's motel rooms.

Though their motel room had nothing but rocky walls and rocky beds with king-sized mattresses, duvet covers and vast pillows, Max and Cy-Croc felt warm and comfortable enough in it and they certainly felt safe without seeing or hearing from those flaming monsters.

"Your vegetable stew is really delicious, Cy-Croc," Max said, as he sat down at the small wooden kitchen table and tucked into it.

For dinner, Cy-Croc had enough ingredients to make a vegetable stew for her and Max and she cooked it in the kitchen unit in their motel room.

"Thanks, Max," Cy-Croc said, as she sat down to join him at the table. "So, the last time you were telling your story, I remember you just saved the life of your girlfriend Roxanne from that vast waterfall and she just thanked you for it. I don't how to say this, but, so far from this listener's perspective, that doesn't sound like a nightmare to be waking up from nightly. It sounds more like a romantic dream and you should feel better for it."

"If I could control my dreams, I would gladly stop there and wake up happily." Max sighed. "Well, if I must continue the story, I promise you the next part will be the most nightmarish part of the whole nightmare." Then he resumed the story.

Because it was three hours away from the camp site and Max and Roxanne were all tired and what they both needed then was rest and sleep and she needed emotional support after that day's traumatic experience, Max got out a tent from his big rucksack and set it up for the night. He didn't know how long he would be out here that night, but he was glad that he brought it out when he did. While he set the tent up, Roxanne dried herself with a towel that Max brought over and changed out of her wet clothes and into some of Max's spare clothes. They were a bit smelly, but they were at least dry and warm, so she was grateful for them just as much as she was grateful to Max for saving her life. Not to mention that the t-shirt she put on was one of Max's old Powerline t-shirts. Before they did anything, the first thing Max did was check that Roxanne didn't have any cuts or bruises or any broken bones, which luckily she didn't. After Roxanne finished drying herself and Max finished putting up the tent, they went in and got under the sleeping bags Max brought over as well.

"Roxanne, are you okay under that sleeping bag?" Max asked.

"I am, thank you, Max," Roxanne replied. "This is better than being in that room with those drama queens I had to sleep with for the last two nights. And I'm very glad you came for me."

"Hey, I couldn't sleep back the camp site with you being alone in the wild out here at this time of night," he said. "I was very worried about you and I just had to find you and make sure you were okay. Oh, I'm sorry if I'm sounding or acting like your dad."

She chuckled. "No, you're not. It's nice that you're looking out for me, but you're not being overprotective like my daddy."

Max smiled. "So, may I ask how you got lost?"

Roxanne explained that when she and all the girls went on the nature trip for the day and she was teamed up with those three bullying girls. They asked her to look under a tree for some information about tree roots. When they pushed her under the deep roots as she went for a look, that was when she learned that they played a prank on her. They found it hilarious, but she didn't. She managed to get out, but it took what she thought was two hours. By the time she got out, she saw that not only had those three mean girls left her but the whole girl group including the female instructor as well.

Roxanne started to make her way back to the campsite, but it quickly became dark and cold and she didn't have a torch or a map or anything to help her so it became harder for her as every second went by. She did cry out for help to see if someone was nearby and they could help her. Some did answer her calls for help, but they were nothing except very big, strong and vicious bears. They scared her so much that she ran away from them. She didn't stop running until she slipped down a slippery slop and fell into the rough river Max found her in.

"And then you rescued me from that river, Max, and now you know the rest." While she told the story, she had been crying.

Max stroked her beautiful red hair as he hugged her. "It's okay, Roxanne. You're not alone anymore and you're safe here now."

She hugged him back. "And I feel better for being here and with you. And if it's all right with you, I think I'll feel better if I try to get some sleep now."

"Me too." Max yawned. "Well, good night, Roxanne."

"Good night, Max," Roxanne said.

Then Max was surprised when he got a kiss on the lips and two arms wrapped around him. He did the same to Roxanne.

The next morning, Max and Roxanne woke up at six, grabbed some apples and berries for breakfast and managed to make their way back to the camp site and join their fellow schoolmates in time for the morning's first activity as if they were there last night. They even managed thanked Bobby and PJ for covering for Max so he could rescue Roxanne in the wild and Max never forgot what he promised them when they got back home to Spoonerville.

So today went normal or rather this morning because as Max and Roxanne told PJ and Bobby about their adventures last night during their lunchbreak, two policemen arrived at the campsite. At first, Max wondered if someone secretly noticed that Max broke the rules last night to save his girlfriend, probably Principal Mazer, and if he was going to get expelled from school or arrested or incarcerated or even end up in the electric chair, but he still didn't regret what he did. He was just glad his girlfriend was alive, safe and well.

The two policemen actually came for Roxanne. After a few minutes of talking to them, she went back to Max, PJ and Bobby. She was in tears.

"What's wrong, Roxanne?" Max asked.

Roxanne told them that the police told her that back in Spoonerville, a mob boss and his family and his paid workers, including her dad Marcus, had been arrested, had their trial, had been found guilty for their dirty, illegal business and they were all sent to prison for ten years. Marcus's only request before he got his prison sentence was that Roxanne go and live somewhere in Florida where his best friend, whom she never even heard of let alone met or know the name or even the gender, will look after her. She would much rather stay in Spoonerville and live with Max and his dad Goofy, whom she knew very well, than go with some stranger in a different town in a different state, but she had no choice. The law was forcing her to go. And she had to move to this new place as soon as she could. That meant she couldn't even finish her school camping trip.

After she gathered her stuff from her cabin room, Roxanne hugged and said goodbye to PJ and Bobby and then finally Max. She thought of saying goodbye to Stacey, but since she was already with her best friends and hadn't spoken to her for a long while, she decided it wasn't worth letting her former best friend know.

"I don't want to go, Max," Roxanne said, as she hugged him. "I don't want to move to a new place to live with someone I've never met in my life and is not even related to me. I won't have anyone there I know, especially you."

"Well, if you tell where you live when you get there, I can and visit you in person whenever I can."

"That's the first thing I'll do when I move there."

"I'll never forget you for as long as I live, Roxanne. You are an amazing person and you were the best girlfriend a guy could ever have. Every second I spent with you, I really cherished and appreciated. And I wish you nothing, but a long and happy life whatever you do."

Roxanne managed to give a smile. "And no matter what happens to me in the future, I will never forget you, Max. You are a totally wonderful guy and you were the best boyfriend in the whole wide world. Ever since the day I met you, you've made my life the happiest and the best it has ever been. And no matter what happens to you in the future, I wish you nothing but the best life you can ever have."

Then they gave one last kiss before the policemen came to collect Roxanne, put her in the car and drive off to start her new life in Florida. She and Max waved to each other until the police car she was in vanished out of sight.

"And that's when I wake up and scream," Max finished. "Nothing more." He wiped the tears from his eyes.
