It was during a game that it happened... THAT ACCIDENT.
The Sawamura-Miyuki battery was doing well, striking out the batters. However, one batter ended up hitting the ball back into Sawamura's chest.
It hit with such force that it knocked Sawamura to the ground. "SAWAMURA!" Miyuki and a medic ran right to his side.
Miyuki saw his chest still, 'He's not breathing!' He gives Sawamura CPR as the medic did chest compressions.
'Please...wake up! It's not over yet! WE'RE not over yet!'
The medic stops after a while, holding Miyuki back, "It's too late...he's dead."
"NO! No, not yet!" Miyuki yells in desperation as he starts hitting Sawamura's chest, tears in his eyes as he pleads, 'Please, come back to me partner! Come back! EIJUN!'
Then, by some miracle, Sawamura coughs up blood. He slowly breathes as a trail of blood leaks out of his mouth.
Seeing his pitcher's chest rise and fall, Miyuki breathes a sigh of relief, "Thank god...he's alive."
The medic immediately calls an ambulance.
As they get Sawamura on a stretcher, Miyuki wipes his tears away before kissing Sawamura's forehead, "Don't worry about the game, Ei. I'll finish it ASAP. I'll check on you later," he whispers before seeing his partner off.
With new determination in his eyes, Miyuki glares at the batter, who trembles in fear.
'Accident or not...he's dead,' Miyuki growls as he calls more aggressively than usual for this batter who hurt his partner.
They finish the game with Miyuki's team winning...but afterward, Miyuki immediately went to the hospital to check on his partner.
According to the doctors, Sawamura was lucky. The ball that hit his chest was so powerful that it stopped his heart, and created a blood clot. Basically, Sawamura had a heart attack. Miyuki hitting his chest with about the same amount of force as the ball restarted his heart. Miyuki saved his life.
Now on anticoagulants to clear any blood clots left in him, Sawamura was on bed rest for a few weeks. No acceptions.
Miyuki was fine with that as long as his partner was alive.
"You scared me, Baka!" Miyuki hugs him, crying again, "I almost lost you..."
Sawamura starts crying too, "I'm sorry...!"
"No, no! It's not your fault!" Miyuki assures him, wiping his tears away, "I'm just glad you're alive."
"Me too, Miyuki-senpai," Sawamura smiles as they share a kiss.
That poor batter, the one that was traumatized by what happened (and Miyuki) came to apologize, and even give them a gift basket for good measure.
Lucky for him, Sawamura forgave him easily for the accident (if it was just an accident), and held Miyuki back from maiming the guy.
Miyuki and Sawamura went home together as soon as Sawamura was discharged, with Miyuki taking care of him like a good partner and husband.
