Cy-Had popped her head to the sandy surface like a normal fish popping its head out of the sea. The cotton snake puppets followed, but Chip and Dale stayed in the sand and breathed through the snorkels because Cy-Had told them to wait until she checked where they were was safe enough for them to come up. They were glad when they could come up out of the sand and take their snorkels out after Cy-Had told them it was safe.
"Boy, am I glad that's over," Chip said.
"Aww, didn't you even have one bit of fun?" Dale asked.
"Guys, really?" Cy-Had whispered. "Now we're inside this well-hidden temple, it is crucial that we must be quiet."
"Got it, Cy-Had," Dale said. "If there's one thing that I'm a professional at, it's being quiet." Then, without looking where he was going, he bumped into a stone pillar and it fell down, making a loud noise as it crashed down.
Chip scoffed. "Oh, yeah. That was a really great practical decision you've given us, Dale."
"It's not my fault!" Dale snapped back at him. "It was whoever put this stupid cymbal here that's at fault!"
"That's no excuse to –"
"Guys!" Cy-Had snapped. "I don't want to stun you, but if you don't try harder to be quieter, I will have to. Understand?"
The chipmunks were silent and just nodded their heads.
"That's better," Cy-Had said. "Now, I don't think anyone heard Dale's stone pillar crashing, but let's get going before anyone finds us here. And as quietly as we can."
The chipmunks followed her as silently as they could.
As they looked around the temple, it looked exactly identical to the one Chip and Dale were trapped in and got rescued by their new friend Cy-Had. It was the same height, the same rocks, the same coldness and the same rumbling noises coming from Dale's tummy.
"That's the twentieth third time your tummy's made, Dale," Chip said.
"I'm sorry," Dale said. "It's got a mind of their own. Plus, I'm feeling a little –"
"You can't be hungry now, Dale," Chip said. "You had a good breakfast enough to fill five people, not to mention I'm really surprised that you're still not sick from that rocket plane ride."
"I'm not hungry," Dale said. "This temple reminds me of that one we were trapped in and I was so hungry that I would eat anything, even that –"
"Don't remind me!" Chip snapped. He tried very hard to get those replays of having to see his friend eat that disgusting porridge with a whole wig in it when they were in the previous temple out of his head, but he couldn't and they still made him feel sick.
"Guys, I've found Monty and Zipper," Cy-Had said.
"Where? Where?" Dale cried.
Chip hit him on the head and shushed him before they joined Cy-Had. They were shocked when they saw Monty, who was cuffed up, and Zipper, who was in a sealed up jar standing on a rocky platform like they did. They were all surrounded by the Air Army and their leader, Lady Annie.
"What do you flying bozos want with us?" Monty demanded.
"We've just invited you two to be part of something special," Annie said, "and this is how you thank us? By disrespecting and yelling at us?"
"I don't know who you or your feathery and smiley friends are," Monty said. "But from what I'm seeing, I don't like it. You haven't made a good impression to me or Zipper, so why should we respect you at all?"
"Because you have no choice now," Annie said. "I need you two for experiments."
"Experiments for what?" Monty asked.
Chip knew Dale would shout out an answer and give their position away, so he quickly put his hand on his best friend's mouth before he even opened it.
"There's no point asking because neither of you will remember," was all the hawk sorceress told Monty and Zipper. Then she turned to her flying minions. "Well, what are you waiting for, a taxi? Get on with the spell!"
"What do we do, Cy-Had?" Chip asked her. He still didn't realise Dale's mouth in case he did anything foolish.
"This is what we're going to do," Cy-Had said, holding something in her metal fin.
"How is a golden scroll going to rescue our friends?" Dale asked, as Chip decided that he couldn't hold his friend's mouth anymore.
"These sorceresses don't have any weaknesses, but golden scrolls are one of them. They are sent from the one that they serve."
Dale took the scroll. "But there's nothing on it," he said, as he and Chip read it.
"That won't make any difference to the sorceresses at all," Cy-Had said. "In fact, they don't even need to read it. They just need to take one look and that they tremble in fear. We just need to take it to Annie, trick her and her minions to go away while we rescue Monty and Zipper."
"Well, what are we waiting for?" Dale asked. He started to run, but he got stopped by Cy-Had's extending metal fin and got dragged back to her.
"We are waiting, Dale, because we need look for some things to disguise us," Cy-Had said. "Besides, I need to fill in the scroll."
"Will these do for the disguise?"
Dale and Cy-Had turned to see Chip returned, dragging some items behind him.
"Those will do perfectly, Chip," the flying fish said, smiling.
The Air Army had finishing their chanting in time for Annie to do her magic.
"Stop, Lady Annie!"
Everyone stopped and went still.
Annie growled. "Who said that? No one tells me to stop! No one!"
"Not even the one you serve, ma'am?" the yellow dragon asked.
"Hmm, that is true," Annie said. "And is the one I serve you?"
"No, ma'am," the yellow dragon replied. "I serve you."
"Well, then, stop trying to be so clever and just do what I say!" Then she turned to the rest of the Air Army. "Now, come on! Tell me who told me to stop!"
"That would be me."
Annie and the Air Army turned to see a strange creature approaching her. It was giant figure, wearing a black robe and hood with a terrifying golden mask that looked like a griffin. The Air Army shivered and was about to fly until…
"Stay where you are!" Annie yelled at them. Then she turned to the figure. "And who are you to tell me to stop?"
"I have been sent to you by the one you serve," the creature said.
Annie just scoffed. "And what does she want me to do?"
"She wants you to put these creatures into hard labour and find more recruits. She wants you to find them, especially from the Gibson Desert." The creature held out a golden scroll.
Annie's stern face turned into a very scared one. As she took the scroll and read it, she shivered in fear. "If that is the wish of my goddess, then so be it," she said. "You take these pathetic creatures to hard labour. Take them to the rocks while we find these creatures we must find."
"Yes, Lady Annie," the creature said as it bowed. Then it picked up Monty and Zipper and watched Annie and her air army flew away before it walked away.
