In the fifth story I wrote about Robin's talent. This is part two of the story where she learns to deal with rejection. She also learns she can't just take it out on her family because she's upset.
He always knew his niece was a lot like her mother. Robin's fierce glare and folded arms made her look like she was the Black Widow's clone.
"Robin? Will you please talk to me?" Tony was calling to her when they walked into the apartment.
She turned and glared daggers at him. "Why should I? You're nothing but a stupid jerk! You made me believe I was talented!" she snaps.
"You are talented baby bird! It's not my fault that you weren't picked for the play!" Tony shot back.
"Yes it is! You're the one who started all this! I bet you just wanted to watch me fail!" she cries.
"Why would I do that? I'm your Uncle" he asks and she scoffs.
"Actually you're nothing to me Tony! You're just a big jerk who lies to little girls and makes them cry"
"I never meant to hurt you…"
"Liar! You're such an idiot Tony and I hate you! I don't need your stupid coach or you!"
"Fine! I'm sorry it didn't go as planned Robin but I really don't deserve to be treated like this" he snaps.
"Oh boo hoo" she mutters.
"That's enough young lady!" Clint snaps as he walks in hearing the loud fight.
"Whatever" she mutters and storms off to her room and slams the door.
"I'm so sorry Tony" Clint says to Tony when he hears the door slam.
"It's fine Clint, I had a feeling she'd be like her mother" he says.
"I'll have a chat with her" he says and Tony nods. "I'll be with my family if she feels like apologizing" he says and leaves.
Clint gives a long sigh as he walks to his daughters room.
"Mind explaining to me what happened young lady?" he asks. He walks to her and sits in her computer chair.
Robin is sitting on the bed looking really dejected. "I didn't get the stupid part and it's all Tony's fault" she mutters.
"Why do you blame him? I thought Tony was the one who was trying to help get you the part"
"Well he didn't do a very good job. I didn't get the part and I feel like he just set me up to fail" she replies.
"You're not being fair Robin. Your Uncle loves you very much and would never try to embarrass or hurt you" Clint says.
"But I am hurt and embarrassed dad!" she cries.
"That doesn't make it okay to be cruel to Tony. I heard you screaming at him and Tony looked very hurt when he left" Clint tells her.
"I was just frustrated" she mutters.
"Well I am sorry kiddo but I am afraid you won't always win"
"But I wanted to win so bad daddy, I tried my very best" Robin whines.
"I know and I am proud of for trying your best. I am disappointed however that you took it out on Tony when he was only trying to help you" Clint replies.
She doesn't reply so Clint lifts her chin then. "Robin, do you truly believe that Tony wanted to hurt you?" he asks.
She gives a shrug and he raises a brow. "Really kid? After almost ten years of knowing him you really believe he'd ever be cruel to you?" he asks.
This time she sighs and shakes her head. "No, I am sorry daddy, I need to learn to accept a loss and just try again next time"
"I am glad you understand but I don't think its just me you need to apologize to" he replies.
"Do you think he'll forgive me?" she asks and gets a nod.
"He wouldn't have spent so much time and money on you if he didn't care so much about you. He really loves you kiddo and you really hurt him"
"Then I'll go and apologize to him right now" Robin replies.
Clint gives her a smile and opens his arms. "Now that's my good girl" he says proudly. She jumps into his arms and hugs him tightly.
"Thanks daddy" she whispers and gives him a kiss before running off to the elevator.
Pepper answers and gives her a disappointed look. "Hello Robin, I heard you got into a big fight with your Uncle" she says and gets a nod.
"I want to apologize to him Aunt Pepper" Robin answers.
"Robin…"
"Please? I know I acted like a brat and he didn't deserve that" she says cutting her off.
Pepper can tell there was no point in arguing. Robin Nicole Barton was just as feisty as her mom and would just keep cutting her off.
She leads her inside and they find Tony playing a board game with his children in the playroom.
"Why don't I take your spot Tony while you two chat?" she asks and Tony shakes his head.
"I don't think I have anything else to say Pep" he says.
"Please Uncle Tony..." Robin starts and he turns to her with a disapproving look.
"So now I'm your Uncle again? I could have sworn ten minutes ago you told me I was nothing to you, nothing but a big jerk and an idiot" he asks her.
"Robin!"
"I didn't mean it Johnny, I was just frustrated" she mumbles looking ashamed.
"That's not a good excuse Robin!" Tony snaps angrily and she nods.
"I know...can we please go talk privately?"she asks.
"Sure" he says. "First though, I want you to stand in the corner and think about your misbehavior" he says. He points to the corner right behind Emily's chair.
"But...can't I..." Robin starts and he shakes his head.
"No Robin, I'm sick of your rudeness now just do as I say!" he snaps.
Robin nods quickly and moves to the corner. Johnny looks to her and can tell she's crying now.
"Dad..."
"Just take your turn Jonathon" Tony replies. Johnny gives a nod and closes his mouth.
The Stark family went quiet as they played and the only sound in the room was Robin quietly sobbing.
Tony didn't like making his niece cry but he had to stay firm. She had really hurt his feelings and he wanted her to understand that.
Robin did begin to understand just how badly she messed up. She thought about how his expression and how hurt he looked. Tony really had done a lot for her and it wasn't his fault she wasn't picked. She only hoped he'd forgive her and help her again.
After ten minutes pass Tony quietly stands up and Pepper takes his place.
"Lets go have a chat now Miss Barton" he whispers to Robin who turns and nods. She takes his hand and wipes the tears off her face with her other hand.
Tony takes Robin to the living room couch and sits down. Robin stands in front of him with her head bowed in shame.
"Look at me young lady" he calls and she looks to him. He gives her a tissue first and she blows her nose. He then takes her hands and squeezes them gently.
"I am very disappointed in you Robin Nicole Barton" he says and she nods.
"I know, I didn't really mean it Uncle Tony, I was just frustrated" she says.
"That doesn't make it okay to hurt my feelings. I really wanted you to succeed and did my best to help you" he replies.
She gives him a nod. "I know, I'm very sorry Uncle Tony" she replies. "I'll understand though if you don't wanna help me anymore. I don't deserve your help or your love" she says.
"Now that's going a little extreme I think" he says.
"Really?" she asks and gets a nod. "But I was such a brat to you! I was sure you wouldn't even forgive me and you'd say you hated me!" she exclaims.
Tony just shakes his head. "We don't hate in this tower Robin and I want you to promise me that you'll try to remember that from now on. Even if you're frustrated I want you to remember that we love each other" he says.
She gives him a nod. "Okay, I really am sorry Uncle Tony, I love you so much"
"I love you too baby bird" he says with a smile. She smirks at the nickname but didn't object it. She only smiles as he lets go of her hands. She climbs onto his lap and hugs his neck. He smiles as well as he hugs her back.
"Am I forgiven?" she asks when she pulls away and sits on his knee. He gives her a nod and then kisses her forehead. "Yes, I am proud of you for realizing you were wrong and came to find me Robin"
"Daddy and I had a little chat when you left. He asked me if I ever thought you'd hurt me on purpose and it made me see just how hurtful I had been. You didn't deserve that and I really am sorry" Robin says.
"I forgive you baby bird and if you still want to go for the singing thing Robin I will still be your biggest supporter" he told her.
"Okay, thanks Uncle Tony, you're the best" she said.
"I know I am" he says and she chuckles. "But I am afraid I am going to have to confiscate your karaoke machine for a week as punishment"
She sulks for a second and then smiles again. "That's fair, I'm just glad we're okay" she answers.
"Me too" he agrees and gives her another kiss on her forehead. She then lets out a small yawn as she leans against his chest.
"Close your eyes and sleep sweetheart, I know you've had a rough day" he says gently and she nods.
She quickly falls asleep and Tony waits a few minutes. When her body is completely limp he stands and cradles her in his arms. He goes back to the game room and whispers to his family he'd be right back.
"You guys okay?" Pepper asks and Tony nods. "Of course Pep, we don't hate in this tower" he says. "She knows she was wrong and apologized" he adds.
"Good" Pepper replies and he leaves to return her to her home. Clint answers the door and smiles as he takes his daughter.
"I see you tired her out" he teases and he smirks. "Poor kid did have a rough day" he says.
"I am just glad you forgave her"
"Of course, just like you'd forgive mine" Tony replies.
