Using these channelers, Robbs gains the upperhand in battles against the Lannisters (though he still refuses to cross the neck without Walder Frey's alliance). After learning the truth about Tysha, Tyrion kills Tywin and leaves Westeros and sails west to ruins of old Valyria, and from there to Westlands. Nynaeve and Elayne's journey goes the same way, but the ter'angreal they use to bind Moghedien is not a'dam. Perrin and Egwene both encounter Bran in the Tel'aran'rhiod, along with Bloodraven. Perrin also has a fight with mute pirates. He tries to find their captain, but he is long gone. Battle of Dumai's Well and Battles at the Wall occur. Cersei and the Small Council have some victories against the remaining forces of soldiers, but have absolutely no plans how to defeat mad channelers, who are wreaking havoc around Westeros. Kevan Lannister, new Hand of the King, plans to ask the Aes Sedai for help. Daenerys finally defeats corrupt rulers of Amadicia and Altara, becoming a queen there. 9. A Feast for Crows:
Euron Greyjoy becomes king of the Iron Islands, promising the Ironborn that Westeros is nothing compared to Westlands and they will conquer them with dragons. Euron captures a few of the mad channelers and uses them to conquer Dorne. Beyond the Wall, Bran reaches Bloodraven, who tells him the story of Lews Therin, the ancestor of both the Starks and Valyrians. Bloodraven explains that the first dragons were bred by Aginor, and that Aginor even used blood of Lews Therin, believing it would make them even more powerful. This proved fata, as dragons were impossible to tame. Even when the Dark One manged to touch them, they would go mad and destroy everyone around them. So they fled from the Shadow and became ordinary animals. Bloodraven also explains that only two children of Lews Therin survived: a daughter Valya and a son Brandon. Both of them fled west and settled in Westeros and Valyria respectively, becoming the ancestors of Starks and Valyrians. Valyrians, because of their ancestry of Lews Therin and powers they inherited, were able to tame the dragons. Bloodraven then says the Starks and Targaryens will only be reconciled when their ancestor comes. Mat and Logain gather people loyal to Daenerys, who succeeds in killing Sammael. Mat also meets with Elayne and Nynaeve, who cannot understand why he joined Daenerys. Min meets Daenerys and tells her she will never sit on the Iron Throne. Daenerys' dragons frighten everyone, but Rand the most. Hearing about them, Rand investigates tales of the Long Night from Westeros and finds suspicious things in Valyrian and Westerosi histories. He also finds out about the Others. Perrin tries to track down the pirate that attacked him, but only hears stories about him. Eventually, Faile gets kidnapped. The novel ends with Rand anouncing that he will clean saidin.
