Caught A Glimpse

Caught a glimpse of your eye

It was all there for him to see. The truth was there looking him square in the eye. A blur of blue, spinning a crossed the holo projector. And in the mists, a hooded figure was bringing down his brethren. I remember every word you said. He couldn't get himself to look into the eyes of the murderer in front of him. The pain was breaking him down piece by piece. A simple image had just crushed his whole world into pieces. And there was nothing he could do about it. It was the boy's choice. It was a lie that no one could see through.

Caught a glimpse of your eye
Everything freezes
I'm in an old photograph
I'm back from the start

A jedi falls, a cry is called out, and the blade is brought above the holder's head once more. It was happening so fast. The man came down upon them mercilessly, meaninglessly, and truly unaffected. It brought unwanted tears to Obi-wan Kenobi's eyes. It seemed that he stood alone there watching the man bring down his lightsaber like a hammer. But in truth, he wasn't alone. Master Yoda was standing behind him, witnessing also the slaughter of innocence. What made you so afraid to feel?

Caught a glimpse of your eye
Everything freezes and I'm ready
To give you my heart

He couldn't see it all. He had witnessed enough. He had seen the truth and it blew his mind. After all these years this young man had finally cracked under the pressure of popularity. He had been the one to bring it all to a stunning halt but not in the way anyone had expected. And here he was doing more of what was unexpected. I know I was meant to go up this mountain, but I'm suddenly scared of heights. The trial had always been here for him to face but at the time when he should be able to face it Obi-wan wanted to choose to turn away.

Mayday, mayday
Too many voices too much noise in my ear

It was far too much to bear for him now. He knew the next step and he tried to push it as far away as possible. He couldn't do what was asked of him. Not this time, not ever. I always could, up till now. He couldn't finish the job. This was his friend forever. From boyhood to the man that stood before him now. He would not kill his friend. This was his decision, not as a jedi, but as a friend of the traitor.

Don't want to lose contact over this black ocean
Now you sing follow love
I'll be safe in devotion

He would not kill Anakin Skywalker, his friend of thirteen years. But you have to. The words were poison in his ears. This was the truth and he knew he had to follow truth till death. Till death. His devotion to the safety of the galaxy had to stand truer then his loyalty to Skywalker. Skywalker was dead. The truth was there to stare him in the eye……………..but it's just a glimpse.
