Admiral Chegwidden's office; JAG
Washington, D.C.
"Tiner! Get me Rabb and MacKenzie, NOW!" Admiral A.J. Chegwidden bellowed into the intercom. He was not pleased. As to why the CIA continued to go above his head to pull his two senior officers, he wasn't particularly sure. It all came back to Webb, pain in the six that he was.
Harm and Mac entered the room together, coming to attention before his desk. "Commander Rabb and Lt. Colonel MacKenzie reporting as ordered, sir," Rabb said.
"At ease, you two, and take a seat," A.J. ordered them, gesturing to the chairs in question. "You already know Mr. Webb." He watched the two acknowledge the spook with a look before returning their attention to him. "I wish I could tell you this was strictly voluntary, but the higher ups have already given their blessings. Webb will brief you."
With a nervous look towards the Admiral, Webb stepped forward to explain the situation. "Do either of you know Senator Michael Lafferty?" At the two nods, Webb continued. "Since his wife passed away seventeen years ago, he has been single-handedly raising their daughter, Hailey. In a week and a half, Hailey starts at UCLA on her Masters degree. A little over a month ago, the Senator started receiving threatening emails and letters. Each somehow threatened everything from the kidnapping to the murder of his daughter by her next birthday. There were no demands, no payoffs. There is no way to appease the person and make them back off. Usually, the stalker leaves some hint to show how closely he watches her. Two days ago, Hailey also began receiving the letters. Even with all this correspondence from the stalker, we've never been able to trace him. Hailey's birthday is on October 29, when she'll turn 25. To keep Hailey safe, and possibly find the stalker, the two of you will go undercover along with myself and another agent.
Here are your files on the situation so far, including copies of every email and letter, and your covers. Read them over and meet me and my partner at the new pizza place down the street from Mac's apartment at 7:30. We'll go over everything then," he instructed the two while handing the pile of files over to Mac.
"If that is all from Mr. Webb, you can go for the day to read over the files and prepare. Dismissed," the Admiral told them.
The two quickly stood and came to attention. "Aye, aye, sir," they replied, doing about-faces and exiting the room.
"They had better come out of this unscathed, Webb, or else I'll do more than just break your nose this time," he warned the spook with a glare.
