The next morning, Astrid wakes up with a grudge.
As she goes to get up, she felt a paper beside her realizing that it was a letter that was given by a messenger last night.
She needs to talk to Gobber about it.
She goes to change and heads out to the forge to inform Gobber.
When she heard the blacksmith singing his melody, she knew that he was there already.
Astrid goes to wave at him with her left hand holding the letter.
Astrid: Gobber!
Gobber looks to see the lass only to have his eyes on the letter.
Gobber: Whatcha got there, Lass?
Astrid: I got this letter from a mysterious messenger last night. I don't know how he got in, but he knows how he could find me. Also, do you mind if you could read it for me?
Gobber: Absolutely.
He takes the letter from Astrid and goes to read the front before opening it.
Ms. A. Hofferson
The Hairy Hooligan Tribe, Isle of Berk of the Barbaric Archipelago
He flips to the back of the letter to find a black wax seal in the form of a Night Fury dragon.
Gobber: Huh. That's odd.
He proceeds to open the letter and he was shocked to find out who sent it to her.
Dragon's Edge Sleepaway Academy for Dragon Riders and Trainers
Headmaster: Viggo Grimborn (Former Dragon Hunter, Member of the Dragon Clan Council)
Gobber then reads the letter.
Gobber: Dear Ms. Hofferson, We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Dragon's Edge Sleepaway Academy for Dragon Riders and Trainers. Please find a list of all the necessary books and equipment. The term begins on the first frost. We'll await you no later than the first day of winter. Yours sincerely, Mala Evermore, Deputy Headmistress.
Astrid was shocked that it was an acceptance letter to an academy for training dragons.
However, when Gobber mentioned Dragon Riders and Trainers, she frowned when she realized that it was for those who love dragons.
Astrid: Is there a way to deny the letter?
Gobber: I'm afraid not because there's nothing said about declining the letter.
Astrid: Oh, great.
Gobber: Well, I was about to tell you that you are going to have dragon training with the teens, but with this letter, you must go.
Astrid feels saddened about the statement.
But, with her life on Berk, she just hoped that this academy is not as bad as her home or their enemies' territories.
She decided to go.
Astrid: So, where could we find those necessities?
Astrid was told that she needed to wait for Gobber because he was the instructor at dragon training.
When the training ends with an awful result, Astrid and Gobber go on a boat after lunch with two bags and sail toward the Northern Markets.
As soon as they reach their destination, Gobber looks on a list to find the necessities for Astrid.
Afterward, they go to find the one last piece of equipment: a collar.
Gobber: Ah! I can see where we could find one.
He discovered a stall covered in leather collars and it was run by a man wearing a Night Fury emblem.
Gobber approached the stall and the salesman wasn't surprised.
Salesman: Welcome, Matey. What brings you here?
Gobber: Well, my apprentice, Astrid, is here to look for a collar.
Salesman: Ah! A newcomer! I know just about it.
He shows the blacksmith a blue leather collar.
It has a dragon scale pattern.
Salesman: It's a blue leather collar with a dragon scale pattern. And no, it's not made from dragon skin.
Astrid is disappointed about the last words, but she was glad that she found what she was looking for.
Astrid: Thank you.
Gobber takes the collar and puts it in one of her bags.
Afterward, they soon reach a dock where a ship goes to the said academy.
Gobber: Well, looks like I'm gonna leave you here.
Astrid is surprised.
Astrid: Why?
Gobber: Aye. From what I saw is that there are lads around your age without any grownups.
Astrid sighs.
Astrid: I see.
Gobber then gives her a farewell embrace that she is comfortable with.
Gobber: Goodbye, Astrid, and good luck.
Astrid: Goodbye, Gobber. You're the best man I ever met.
Gobber smiled before he left her and went home.
As Astrid listens to his footsteps fading away, she goes to the ship as the bell rings telling the newcomers that the ship is about to sail.
Astrid needed to cover her ears because the ship is overcrowded with hundreds of newcomers.
As she walks past them, she suddenly bumped into one.
They turn around only to show Astrid an expression of joy.
???: Astrid! I'm so glad you joined here!
Astrid recognized the feminine voice.
Astrid: Heather?
The said girl embraces the blind blonde and Astrid hugs her back.
Heather: It's been a while.
Astrid: Yeah. I never expected someone like me to be accepted into this Academy.
Heather: Me too.
They soon hear the bell of the ship and the captain goes to speak.
Captain: May I need your attention, please?
All of the newcomers lowered their voices and landed their eyes on the captain.
Captain: Thank you. As you may know, we are sailing toward Dragon's Edge Sleepaway Academy. However, due to the wind, we might make it in a few days.
Some of the newcomers groaned.
Captain: But, don't worry. We will get help from our friends of ours.
Astrid seemed confused as to what the captain meant.
The captain then releases a dragon call and from the water, fine Scauldrons emerge.
Some of the newcomers were terrified of the leviathans' appearance.
Soon, the captain carries a bouquet of Blue Oleanders and feeds the plants to them.
They were delighted as the newcomers were surprised.
Astrid: What's happening?
Heather: The captain is feeding Blue Oleanders to Scauldrons.
The captain goes to speak in a different language and the Scauldrons reply before heading back to the water.
Captain: I ask the Scauldrons to pull the ship towards our destination. Now, I ask you to throw some ropes for them.
Some newcomers did as the captain says and they threw the ropes into the sea as the other end was tightened to the ship.
The Scauldrons snatched the other end with their mouth and they started to pull the ship.
As the dragons pull the ship, a wind hit Astrid's face as she is prepared for what is coming next.
Astrid: Dragon's Edge, here we come.
