There is one thing though. We still need to establish a map. *Sigh*
In my aim to ultimately move away from using source material, I made my own map for my own OC's. There are key portions that remain, but for the most part, this is all my doing. You can check my twitter for the map if you wish.
The Mist
This would be the easiest to handle since I don't expect to do too much on the continent. In terms of landmass, it is easily the largest continent in our worldbuilding. I have taken the liberty of dividing it into 6 different zones to my interpretation/headcanon.
Land composition is a mix of jungle and bamboo forest, but near the edges, it loses its main characteristics to the beach and deciduous forest types.
The Sandy Edge
Designated by a sandy brown color, this portion represents the coastal regions of the continent. It is not all sand "obviously," but there is definitely a ton available. Other than that, more inland you have palm tree forests that lead into the jungle that gives the mist its infamously. Life here would be wild, but if people manage to reach this location they can enjoy peaceful beach life, with loads of material, fruit, and local wildlife to have a great honeymoon.
That is, if they manage to reach it. Because what lies between you and a fun road trip is crazy difficult.
The Land of the Four Gods
Designated by the green striped area on the continent, this land is the most...peaceful? Of the two. There is definitely a green realm vibe from the area, but its goals are mostly centered on self-defense and maintaining cordial relationships. It is the southeast region of the map, meaning it is closest to Zipangu and Romena. It is home to Seika's following, Nabu's library, and Ganan's home (Although she barely lives in it now).
The Land of the Four Fiends
That place is an absolute no-go zone if you value the health of your spirit or genitals. That's why I put it right in front of the Sandy Edge, just to make everyone else's life difficult. As written on the wikia, it is home to lustful powerhouses and dark purple realms. I currently have no characters in the series that have been written inside that area. However, Seika and Namaru do love to go there on holidays.
The Land of the Four Souls
Just like you don't go to the Fiends if you value your sex-life balance, you don't go to the Souls if you value your life and independence. It is a unified bulwark designated by the orange striped area and attacks the other two places a lot. There is a list of reasons why the mist isn't a great place to try to invade, and this area ranks pretty high on that list.
The Foggy Curtain
Next, is a strip of land designated by the gray coloring where it's near impossible to see a thing. This is the foggy curtain, and it is just mist territory, but fog.
Eternal fog.
So much that the three main territories don't bother with claiming that place for its own. It's simply not worth it.
If you ever travel through it, know that it is a neutral, mysterious, and dangerous territory in its own right. Travel in a large group to stave off any highway robbers, and know that the fog has mysterious shifting properties that will make you question how you went from Ohias to the Dragon Yard by going straight west.
Ferlias
Lastly, we have the island of Ferlias. Unfortunately, you only have the Season 1-3 DLC. This part of the series is still in development, but here is a part of the map you can't explore just to tease you ..
Zipangu
The next easiest would be Zipangu, obviously. Now, the wikia describes it as an extremely small country. But small is lame, so I made it a relatively small global landmass in my universe. The wikia also described it as mostly tame, which I interpreted as "free rein" and "a perfect sandbox" and "I can destroy it as I please if needed".
In layman's terms, it was perfect for messing around with.
It is also "Japanese flavored", with kimonos and katanas and the like. Means that season 1.5 would fit right in I guess.
As my map would demonstrate, I have divided the continent into four areas for later purposes. As of 2021, that would have been it, but I've recently also added different town names in Zipangu and Romena. Nothing is set in stone yet, but once I finished absolutely everything I will post the final land configuration.
Speaking of which, the dashed light blue lines represent the ice tundra area of Zipangu, while the green dashes represent dense forestry akin to what you think of when you imagine trees in Canada. Edges would be slightly tropical, but mostly the continent is pretty temperate.
The Sand Belt
The left portion of Zipangu has stretches of beachline that are barren of water, wind, and even life. According to the legend of the locals, an ancient being sent everlasting tornados through the area as part of his ending to a long-standing war. To this day those tornados reform and roar through the coastline, leaving it drained and empty of anything that tried to grow before dissipating once again.
Το Μεγάλο Τείχος
Translates to something else in an ancient language that totally isn't pulled from an English to Greek translator. It is a refuge for residents of a bordering land after, you guessed it, some more war. I shall say no more as I don't know if I will actually use this spur-of-the-moment idea.
Romena
In the middle of the map is our medieval-esque world of Romena. The Order didn't have a continent specified (that I've seen, may have missed it), so I decided to take the liberty of making something for Season 2, and fleshing out political boundaries for the fun of it. 14 countries or city-states make up the previously unified continent at the time of...um...the before days, and we will go through the meme ones first before tackling the ones I could think up names for.
As a quick guide to the colors:
Orange = Dragon realm
Yellow = Order realm
Purple = Demon realm
Green = Mamono realm
Blue = Ocean realm
Lastly, this will be one of two continents affected by the portal-events of Season 1.
Detroit
A small purple city state in the top of the continent. That is where all the orderite prisoners get sent when they do the bad.
A bit more on it though. It came to fruition within the time between season 1.5 and a future season, as the two worlds continued to close the differences between them though Virto's portal. More on that when we look at…
Ohio
The biggest meme country on this map. You know those memes that lasted for two months when everyone joked Ohio was gonna take over the world? That's basically this.
Lore wise though, the country of Ohio came up in the midst of MGE speedrunning the timeline to the 21st century. Anything could happen in a different timeline, and it just happens that a few ruling families came together to form the mass threat that was the Ohian alliance.
That was a grueling two years, with attacks from Ohio going out to every county in Romena. They turned themselves into a common enemy of the continent, the local Sea, and even the world when they turned their sights towards Lescatie and Druella. Efforts were made by all, but it was near impossible to stamp the military blitzkrieg taking place.
Eventually, the nations of the world came together to instead, make a truce with Ohio. No one knew the true extent of damages the alliance took during the long crusade, nor who would have won if Ohio never backed down, but a truce was made with the following parameters:
Ohio would give back some land, but gain proprietary control of lands in western Romena. This will come to be known as Ohias. Ohio will have an entire ocean to itself, but half the control will be declared international waters. This basically allows Ohio to have control in name and title, but keep a gun aimed at their head should they interrupt commerce and travel without permission. Ohio was able to achieve what it did by joining forces the best, so one of the parameters is that no more superteam-like joint forces can be formed. This rule applies to all Romenan territories, and another was made and negotiated with Dragonia for good measure. Lastly, Ohio shall be given a small territory, which they promptly named Detroit and left it to their own devices. It is speculated that the move was calculated, as while Detroit turned into a demon realm, it was also a suspiciously convenient place for Ohio to send detractors and prisoners, as well as a deporting hole for other nations that Ohio allowed...for a price. Lizarb
No, it is not related to Dragonia, but Dragonia, much like Ohio, does not mind the common perception of ownership. Take whatever political power you can have, people.
The short meme answer to the lore is to just reverse the letter order in the name.
For the long answer, the history starts around the same time Ohio's push for dominance starts. Lizarb previously started as a Dragonian settlement, then got bigger as more people started emigrating for the untapped potential of the land.
But, with all the different groups in one place, it was hard to establish an effective government to be the main force in the land. Too many violent factions would halt progress and prevent any action, until the pot finally boiled over into anarchy. Weirdly enough, sex and no government worked better for Lizarb, and it's not really that bad to visit from time to time. However, the memes around it will never not be funny.
Ohias
Ohias, aka Ohio 2, is the award territory to the Ohioan alliance. Ohio doesn't really interfere with its regulation but holds control of it for the message. Without too much regulation, the pure yellow realm turned into a green mamono realm, with its lifestyle being more akin to Zipangu rather than the Military Prowess that is Ohio. Its main export is lumber, and its main import is seafood and water from underwater cities, most of which is for supplying the motherland.
Rome
This Rome is inspired by the Rome from the Roman Empire, if that wasn't obvious. It is the gathering place for all things Romena, and because of it, is a solid green territory. People from all over the continent come together for special events, such as the Olympics, and for any treaties that need to be done in a place where one of the sides can't use home-court advantage.
Its history extends back thousands of years, back when Romena was one unified continent. The Romans did as the Romans did, even with the added pressure from monsters that came in the night and day. When they broke up, though, the empire was quickly overthrown and left to ruin. Newfound leaders now found themselves with the question of what to do no, and how to deal with monsters that the empire had easily defended against for centuries. Groups of people formed their own factions, factions turned into alliances and marriages, increasing and increasing until pacts made were large enough to cover hundreds of kilometers and entire ecosystems.
Those new city-states and countries kept Rome around. They had to, if they were going to survive. It is much easier to follow the ways of such a dominant force than relearn all the lessons they did by completely wiping history away. Central cities were raided, techniques were learned, and Rome was transformed into a center for arts and celebration. It had been reborn into a place of prestige, of philosophy, and of safety. Even the most damned person in the new Demon Lord shall not be belittled or insulted while in Rome, or else that citizen's country is the target of all the Roman stans.
Metrei
The last of the more recent areas to be claimed. It is a growing country that spurred from the actions of a ruling omnibus, promising prosperity and a peaceful life from outsiders in exchange for joining his kingdom. Even though his realm is a purple realm, the humans live there are somehow sparred from being corrupted from the atmosphere.
It is also important to note that there is no special security, nor any kind of protection around the main castle, but when one of the residents is the queen of vampires and another is a dragon bigger than a villager's house, with the king himself on the level of some lilims, Intimidation tends to work just fine. It is the main location of Lao's Season 2, and some of Calice's shenanigans.
Dragonia
Now for the only orange territory here! Dragonia's history is pretty much your classic revolution. Dragons, seen as tools, revolted with the help of a dragon rider who was built different. Even when that rider was then put on death row, the dragons recognized the rider and came back to finish the job, establishing Dragonia as the premiere place for newfound equality between humans and dragons.
The inhabitants are usually dragonic and lizard-like in nature, but there are other species that claim the Dragonian hills as their man land. It is also a fairly peaceful green territory, even more so after the arrival of the current demon lord.
But, there is one question I should answer before moving on. Why in the world did I color it orange if it is a green realm?
Well one, it's Dragonia. But it is not inherently part of Romena. Even before it's founding, it was the one place Rome could never claim sovereignty over, and by the time it was possible, Rome's might was on the decline. The orange is not only for the uniqueness of Dragonia, it is to separate the country politically, even if it is physically in Romena.
Constine
This special designation does not apply to the first in a string of orderite territories. Constine is home to the majority of elven kingdoms, and considered the Elf capital in many places, and its history goes back to the days of Rome. It was no Dragonia, so its forces could not stave off Rome claiming the land for itself. Afterwards, Rome left them to their devices, as long as they would send soldiers and follow the roman traditions as a show of unity and trust. When the empire died, though, Constine was one of the few major city-state to stay together. They were a major part in the broadening of Romena, and after the major issues of protection and border disputes were solved, the elven people truly start to prosper. To this day, they remain a neutral orderite territory. They have a pretty strong bond with fairy kingdoms, another enduring species.
As for why they are designated Yellow? Well, they are pretty pure, no? Unless they get corrupted to dark elves, at least.
Lecardon
This one is a pretty weak territory. It is one of the many to form from the creation of a royal family, and is pretty anti-mamono. If you were to look for an Order location other than the late Lescatie to make you wish you threw yourself at that Arachne, this would be one of them. They don't outwardly attack; more like they can't, because for them to continue existing, they had to promise no confrontation against green and purple realms. Any military attack would be stomped by dragons, elves, fellow Orderites territories, whatever reached Lecardon's borders first. If only this had worked on Ohio...
Iviris
This country is, in fact, not a weak territory. It is special as well, as it is actually two countries that were rolled into one as an effort to fight off Ohio. After the treaty was made law, Iviris was given exception by all to remain as it is. Two families rule north and south Iviris, with each half coming with it's own drawbacks and benefits. One of the main differences between Iviris and Lecardon is ideology; South Iviris tolerates mamono locations strategically, while North Iviris welcomes newfound citizens that aren't human. It is evident to note that South Iviris has been subjected to quite the few attacks by mamono extremists, and is projected to keep their borders under tight supervision for the years to come.
New Eetupo
This region is the most prominent green realm in Romena, and was named after what all the sea-boardering land was called back in the ancient times. Nowadays, it is lead by a lamia royal family, complete with a basilisk daughter. Its region is pretty hot most of the year, and thus does a lot of trading with other countries to obtain resources the heat and subpar soil prevents them from making themselves. They hope to rectify this more in the future, most likely with their favorite partner, Iviris.
Lescatie
We all know what Lescatie is, if you know MGE. What I will say, is their relationships between all the territories.
Detroit: The current lescatie is envious of the sheer proliferation of depravity and chaos, while Detroit natives wish they had only Lescatie problems.
Lizarb: Lescatie was a major player in the discarding of a central government, and as such the purple realm is tied at the hip with Lescatie.
Ohio: To them, Lescatie is just another missed opportunity to conquer. Others would say if they hadn't gone after the fourth daughter of the demon lord herself, they could have eventually taken over Romena, only to rename it the Republic of Ohio. Present day, Ohio gets their demon fruit from Lescatie, but keeps their relations at arm's length.
Ohias: Trade partner by proxy, but Ohio keeps them from getting too buddy buddy like a father keeping his daughter from having a boyfriend.
Rome: Is purely a place for knowledge, even to a city fallen to depravity. Remember, no one fucks with Rome.
Metrei: It is a weird relationship. Both are led by extremely powerful and seductive creatures, yet Metrei's leader avoids Lescatie like the plague. Publicly, he claims it is due to a difference in how to spread the word of the Demon Lord. Druella jokes it is because he has been dodging marriage to her to be with his boyfriend, but never gave a real reason for the strange dissonance.
Dragonia: I'm not changing what the wikia says about the relationship to Royal Makai. Lescatie gets the proxy privileges.
Constine: Avoids like the Plague out of their principles and wishes to stay corruption-free.
Lecardon: Avoids like the Plague out of pure hatred. Honestly, you can almost smell another Lescatie coming if Lecardon was left to their own devices.
Iviris: North Iviris has had instances of direct communication, but usually the prospect of full trade is iffy. South Iviris throws up the walls whenever word of Druella coming to N.I. is even uttered.
New Eetupo: Pretty friendly bond, nothing else to it. N.E. thinks there could be less sex though, while Lescatie thinks there needs to be more sex.
The Metacarona Area
This is the port territory, and is not owned by anyone but the locals. "Officially" however, it is under continental control by all the territories, another neutral zone for all to come and commence in commerce. The royals come down there for vacations, the aristocracy comes down for the local food and activities. It is also one of the two major bridges between the land and sea, followed by…
Gulfarin
This is a land on a massive peninsula, and is ruled by representatives from each ocean. If any international conflict had to take place, especially within the oceans, Gulfarin would be the place for deliberations. Like the Metacarona lands, it is rich from the amount of trade and imports it takes in and is a haven for sea life to live on lands, or in various on-water cities and canals crafted throughout the country.
Columnar
This is the last continent on the map, and one with the least used space. It rests on the rightmost part of the map and is only the third-largest out of the four. Yet, half of its space is not even fit for civilization.
The purple lined areas designate total wilderness, locations where no one, how hard they tried, could not have a blooming city-state on the levels of Romena countries. Only small towns and places exist out there.
The purple lines surrounded by red lines is the Columnar Desert, with the only places gathered around the oasis spread far and thin. The northern purple lines are the Columnar Forests, hundreds of square kilometers of nothing but forest wilderness. If you get lost up in either location, don't worry, I will attend your funeral, or marriage if you get saved by a mamono.
The red-lined areas are danger zones. Not in the way of the foggy curtain, more of that they are recently designated war zones. If you get caught with your head down….just try to avoid those places.
The Cities
Columnar was the most affected by Virto's Shennanigans, and as a result, they have gotten the full brunt of catching up to the 21st century, and their Republic is an example of it. The orange lines are highways, made for driving developing cars to the connecting five major cities, with each one having a different culture taken from around the world. Along the web of highways are a multitude of small cities and places to go, but as they are smaller, they do not show up on the map. Instead, only the five cities are aptly on there.
The central one is New Columnar, the first city to obtain 2000s status. They were the leaders in adopting Earth's culture, inventing a whole new field on studying the strange connection to the "Mirror world" they had grown up in, and picking what they like until they had a utopia of their own.
The Northwest City is Falkland, the technological center of MGE. At the city's founding and growth, organizations like Magitech had established centers in that city, with the common goal geared towards surpassing the mirror worlds technology and creating the Tomorrowland they envision.
The other three, the other three, I have not developed yet. Uhh...let's call it future DLC!
The last thing to note is, that there are a few highways that lead to Royal Makai, and its few zones…
Royal Makai
Just like Dragonia, RM is only physically part of Columnar, although there was never anything with the weird boundary thing. I will not get into the specifics of Makai since the wikia has information, but for my world I have divided it into three zones, with two zones specified.
The DA stands for "Demon's Ally." It is the economic center of Royal Makai, and also it's Hollywood with elegance and beauty everywhere. Maybe a better comparison would be Monte Carlo, I don't know.
The RMC just stands for Royal Makai's Center. Nothing major, just the location of the Demon Lord's castle, the sabbath, and other very major things. It is important to note how hard it is to get within seeing range of the Demon Lord on this map, and that doesn't even account for the only other way to get there besides through the harshness of Columnar…
The Oceans
Yep, Poseidon exists. Anyways, they are just oceans, they do ocean things, I'm not going to use the oceans too much, the names are up there, so just a few facts.
You can't cheat your way to Ferlias by taking the Kaosu, the oceans are just as hard to go through. Yes, in case you don't know, skimmed, or forgot, Ohio has an ocean. Zipangu is the smallest continent with the largest bordering ocean in the Heiwa. I threw the Atlantic in there since they might name it the Atlantic. It is possible, Atlantis and everything. "The Dragon's Yard" is the nickname for the ocean bordering the northern mist and northern Dragonia. It is well known that these straights were used by dragon riders to travel, as the consistent wind up there could allow dragons to glide for thousands of kilometers high in the sky. The islands are consequently inhabited by lots of scaled folk, along with the local island wildlife. You could say Dragonia also has an ocean. The Gulfarin Ocean is the most populated.
