Waiting for Thursday and Convinving the Unconvinced Part 2
At Luke's Diner on Wednesday morning
Rory and I are at Luke's, after a minor clothing crisis on my behalf of me, and Rory losing her big, scary, chemistry book.
I am sitting at a table and Rory is getting our coffee. Luke is walking over to the table with no coffee in hand. Oh no its time for our daily tiff about coffee.
"Hey Lorelai, Rory says you have somthing to ask me."
"Did she now. what ever could that be Rory?" Rory whispers in my ear.
"Mom you need to ask him if he's coming to the town meeting"
I have to relent. I have to ask him. Its the only way.
"Luke are you going to the town meeting tommarow?"
"Um, well I don't usually go to town meetings. What do you think the answer is?"
"I think the answer is yes." I say hoping to get him to go.
"No Lorelai, the answer is no."
"But theres going to be somthing that you'll want to be there for." Maybe that'll work.
"What could I possibly be interested in at one of the town meetings."
Oh, no. Rory and I didn't talk about this. "Um well its a... suprise" there we go that should do me. Hehehe. Dirty.
"Its a suprise?" He says, looking really confused.
"Yeah, a really big suprise. Rory organized it, but it was my idea." Yep I am not telling this man a lie.
"Oh, ok. maybe i'll have caeser watch the diner. Not that I really need him to, considering everybody but me goes to these stupid things."
I almost fell out of my seat. I couldn't stop smiling. He was going to come to the town meeting. Yay! "great so how about some coffee?"
"No it'll kill you."
Ah, music to my ears. "No Luke haven't you heard the old saying, that which does not kill you only makes you stronger? Well coffee will not kill me so it will make me stronger."
"Ok whatever i'll get you some coffee. And what'll you have to eat."
I decide to shock him and joke around. " I will have a grapefruit and some wheat toast with soybutter." The look on his face is absolutely priceless. If I had my camera right now, the whole town would be bursting out in laughter when I told the story.
"Ok, and you Rory."
I burst out into laughter and he just stred. Everybody in the diner stared. Even some passerbys on the street stared.
"Lorelai you're scaring the customers, whats the matter?"
"You believed me, you actually believed me-" I say my voice trailing off with yet more histerical laughing.
"Ok so you just said you wanted health food as a joke, no that does not sound like Lorelai Gilmore to me." Luke says sarcasticly.
I stop laughing and people stop staring and go about their business. "I'll have 3 chocolate chip pancakes with whipped cream on top and some extra chocolate chips on the side."
"I will not give you chocolate chips on the side Lorelai"
"Please?"
"No"
"Please" Here come the mind games.
"Yes, Luke"
"No, Lorelai"
"yes"
"No"
"Yes"
"No" I say
"Yes" He says and realises what I just did and says, "Whatever." and leaves to go fill our order.
"That was not nice, mom"
"I know, but it was fun"
"Ok have your fun, but you won't be able to have fun like that when your-"
"SHH, Ms.Patty is sitting right over there and Babette is right over there." I whisper and point the two gossip-mongers out to my oh so unobsertvent daughter.
"Sorry, forgot.
"Thats ok just don't slip up again. I'll punish you if you do."
"With what? You've never punished me before and I really don't think you'll start now."
"I will punish you. I will make you, watch," I think for a moment, trying to think of Rorys least favorite movie of all time."I will make you watch 'Grow Up Fit At Elliots Gym' For one whole day!"
"Ok i'll keep my mouth shut"
Ha, I got her. Here is Luke with our food. He is wearing my favorite flannel shirt. It has blue squares on it. I wonder how it would feel to wear that right after Luke and I- No I am not thinking that. I am. I am thinking that I want to have sex with Luke. Mr.Backwards baseball cap. King of the Monosyllable. The healthiest eater on this earth and many others like it. Wow I am really in love with this man. I can't wait for tommarow.
I am at the inn and I cannot concentrate on the paperwork I have right in front of my face. I need coffee. I go to the kitchen to get some from Sookie.
"Coffee please, Sookie." I say.
"Sorry Lorelai we are all out of coffee. Could you go get some more from doose's, you can get some from Luke's on the way.
"Sure, ok."
I walk to the market and then to Luke's. The first thing he says to me when I walk in the door is, "Lorelai why do you have so much coffee?"
"Cause the inn ran out." I responded.
"Ok. what do you want?"
"Coffee."
"Lorelai you have coffee."
"This is for the inn though I want some coffee right now."
"No."
"Why not?"
"Cause you'll die."
"No I won't I've told you before that as others have 70 of their bodys made of water 70 of my body is made of coffee. And as others can't live without water I can't live without coffee, so if you please give me a cup of life?
"Fine whatever."
"Thank you"
I get my coffee and I go back to the inn.
"Hey Sookie I have coffee."
"Good! I'll take that to the kitchen and I will finally get those customers off my back."
"Ok." She starts to walk away and I stop her. "Hey Sookie you're going to the town meeting tommarow right?"
"Yeah Why?"
"It's a suprise."
"Ok."
I can't wait till tommarow.
