If you were to ask Spiroz what his relationship with his sisters was like, he'd tell you that they were some of the most influential people in his life. It was weird having two sisters of adult age, but since demons lived long lives, it wasn't too off to have a sibling or two who was much older than what a typical sibling's age would be. By the time Spiroz had been born, his adopted older sister, Loona, and his older half-sister, Octavia, had well been in their twenties. Still, that didn't stop them from adoring their little brother despite their image.

Loona had always been the big sister that Spiroz could count on to defend him from any bullies or people having problems with him because of his birth status or half-breed status. The number of limbs she had torn off and kept as a personal collection was a testament to that. Of course, as he got older, she started treating him more like an adult by letting him get away with listening to music and watching programs he wasn't supposed to learn about at his age. Loona also started taking Spiroz to clubs and her favorite stores and hung out with him whenever his father was busy. Sure, they had their fights like normal siblings, but she didn't stay mad at him for long after getting her revenge, usually a noogie or wedgie. The furthest she went was swirling Spiroz's head in the toilet, but to be fair, he had ruined her phone by testing out a lightning spell that he missed. Yet, he was always there to comfort his big sister whenever some guy broke her heart, or she felt left out by other Hellhounds who thought she wasn't cool enough. Much as she tried to hide it, Loona had some self-esteem issues, which helped bond the two of them in a similar context.

But if Loona was the fun sibling, then Octavia was the responsible sibling. She was always the one who babysat Spiroz whenever asked, and sometimes she did it of her own free will. Octavia babied him and was always careful to ensure he was safe and protected. She would wash him, change him, feed him, rock him to sleep, and sing to him whenever he asked. Even now, no longer a baby, Spiroz still loved hearing his older sister sing. His love of reading and magic may have come from their father, Stolas, but Octavia had also played a role by secretly teaching young Spiroz various spells that she learned. But out of all his family members, Octavia was the one that Spiroz trusted the most with his secrets. And one incident always made it clear that he could trust her...

***Seven Years Ago***

A young seven-year-old Spiroz was bored. His fathers were out of the day on business, and he couldn't find either of his big siblings. He hoped his favorite playmates, Mitsy and Milton, could come over and play, but Uncle Moxxie said they were both sick with the flu. So a bored owl-imp child decided to explore the mansion and find something interesting to do. He didn't want to bother the servants or guards since they were on duty, and Papa scolded him one time for always bothering them for attention.

Spiroz knew his big sister Octavia was home, so maybe they could play together? He was interested in trying chess again after learning it from her last time. Of course, this time I'll win! Even though I've lost over sixteen times, I can win this time!

He made his way to the living room, where he paused upon seeing someone he had never seen before sitting on the couch, looking almost as angry as his big sister Loona whenever some guy dumped her for the evening. He wasn't sure what that meant, but they had to be jerks for angering his big sister. The woman was a swan, tall and regal, with white feathers and a fancy dress with a crown on her head. She kept looking at the other side of the living room as if she was expecting someone.

Deciding to talk to her, Spiroz smiled and walked over to her. "Hello! Who are you?"

The swan woman looked surprised before staring down at Spiroz and scowling at him. "Ugh, you. I was hoping not to see you."

"Um, I'm sorry?" Spiroz asked, confused by why this swan woman looked at him in disgust. "Did I do something wrong?"

"Yes, you were born," The swan woman growled as she stood up fully and made Spiroz gulp upon seeing how tall she was. She was almost as tall as his Papa Stolas. "It's bad enough my ex-husband decides to marry that fucking imp, but he has to go and have a spawn with you! A fucking abomination that shouldn't even exist!"

"W-What's an...a-a-a-abomination?" Spiroz whimpered as he started to back away. However, the scary swan lady was stepping forward, and her eyes were glowing a dark red that made Spiroz feel scared.

"You are!" The swan woman shouted, pointing at Spiroz, who started to sob lightly. This woman was scary, and he wanted to flee, but something kept stopping him. "You are a freak! A disgusting piece of shit that shouldn't even exist! Any normal and self-respecting demon would have drowned you at birth, but your stupid fathers decided to keep you instead of aborting your half-breed ass! The fact that my daughter has to be associated with you as a half-sibling is just too much!"

"MOTHER!" Spiroz looked behind the scary swan woman and saw his big sister Octavia, power rationing with rage. He quickly let out a cry and rushed over to his big sister, who scooped him up and let him cry on her shoulder. "GET THE FUCK OUT! NOW!"

"Octavia, I was-"

"I DON'T FUCKING CARE! I WAS STUPID TO EVEN ALLOW YOU IN HERE TO TALK, BUT CLEARLY, THAT WAS A MISTAKE! DON'T YOU EVER TALK ABOUT MY BROTHER IN SUCH A WAY AGAIN! GET THE FUCK OUT AND NEVER COME BACK EVER AGAIN! WE'RE THROUGH! I AM NO LONGER YOUR DAUGHTER, AND IF YOU EVER COME WITHIN FIVE FEET OF THE PALACE, I WILL TELL PERSONALLY THROW YOUR ASS OUT!"

Spiroz slowly turned around to look at the angry swan lady who just huffed. "Fine. I can see you are a lost cause if you are going to side with that... thing. Consider our relationship dead, Octavia. I hope one day you regret it."

"The only thing I regret is that I'm related to a horrible witch like you. Now get out and don't come back," Octavia ordered as a few guards, armed to the teeth, arrived with fury on their faces. The scary swan woman scoffed and made her way out with a few guards escorting her.

Once she was gone, Octavia looked at her little brother and softly smiled at him. "I'm so sorry, Spiro. I only let her in because she wanted to talk, and I...I thought maybe by now...no, I was stupid. I'm so sorry she hurt you like that, little one." She kissed him on the forehead as Spiroz sniffed and rubbed his eyes to dry his tears.

"Am...Am I really...a freak? Because I came from two daddies?" Spiroz whimpered.

"No, never let yourself think that no matter who says it," Octavia whispered as she pressed her forehead against his. "You are a beautiful boy whose parents love each other very much. You have a family that loves you. And a big sister who will always protect you. Even if all of Heaven and Hell hate you, you will have us to love you. Always."

Spiroz hugged his big sister as she began to sing to him. The lullaby slowly made the teary-eyed owl-imp fall asleep.

And that was the first day Spiroz realized what the world thought of him.

***Present***

Since that day, Octavia was the one member of his family Spiroz trusted completely with every secret and emotion that went through him. He also decided that out of all the people he knew, Octavia would be the only one to know about this friendship with Hedwig.

"You seriously are friends with an actual angel?!" Octavia said on the line as Spiroz winced from her tone. "Are you insane?! What the hell were you thinking?! You could get killed for this!"

"Oh, come one, Octavia," Spiroz said as he got off his bed and started pacing around in his room. "You work with angels all the time with Queen Charlie in court. How is this any different?"

"Because I'm not friends with them. We work together, and I respect some of them, but they aren't people I hang out with for a drink or something. Just because Heaven and Hell are at peace for the moment doesn't mean we're all singing together and holding hands around campfires," Octavia chided before sighing. "What did you say her name was again?"

"Hedwig Illuminus," Spiroz said while fiddling around with the Evil Eye pendant he had around his neck. "Do you recognize the last name?"

"Not at the tip of my tongue, but I can easily find out," Octavia said with a sigh. "What have you two been doing anyway?"

"Mostly hanging out at the human town nearby or having lunch in the woods," Spiroz answered with a smile. "We talk about our respective realms while just having fun. We've been to karaoke, ramen, jogging, seen some movies, played at an arcade, and sometimes we fly around on Ascarios, her pegasus."

"Ha! Blitz would freak the fuck out if he finds out you've been riding a pegasus!" Octavia chuckled. "But seriously, are you sure about this?"

Spiroz sighed. "Octavia. I've never felt happier than being with her. You and Loona are my sisters, and I love you both. And Mitzy and Milton will always be my best friends, but they also are more like family to me. This is the first time someone has friended me without any connection to either of my parents. I feel...happy, Octavia."

"...Does she know the full truth about you? How you were born and all?"

"N-No..." Spiroz winced. That was the one thing he still hadn't told Hedwig in all the times they had hung out together that he was born from two fathers.

"Well, I won't tell you what I want to do regarding that, but she might find out eventually. Even Heaven has heard about you, and there are a lot of angels who think the same as demons do in Hell," Octavia warned. "Just...promise me you'll be safe? I want to think this angel is being genuinely nice to my little brother, but if she so much as breaks your heart, I'll pluck her feathers out and shove them down her throat."

"I don't think it will come to that, but thanks, Sis," Spiroz said before smiling. "So we're going to meet your boyfriend tomorrow, huh? What's he like?"

"Hmm, I think I'll let it be a surprise," Octavia teased before chuckling. "Anyway, I'll see you tomorrow. Later!"

"Later, Sis," Spiroz said with a sigh before hanging up. "Well, at least someone knows now."

The question was would the rest of his friends and family take it well if they learned he was friends with Hedwig? Loona and Milton might think he was stupid, while Mitzy would just ask if she was some giant eye with crystals around her like some tales about angels were told. Uncle Moxxie and Aunt Millie would be overprotective as always, and there was no telling what his Dads would do. And if all of Hell knew that he was friends with an angel? Their mortal enemy?

He already had demons try to kill him when he was young before Queen Charlie stopped that. If this news were exposed then, royal order or not, he would be targeted again. Of course, the worst fear he had was something terrible happened to Hedwig if some demon or even angel tried to hurt her because of him.

He gripped his fist. No, that will never happen. Nobody is going to hurt her! I don't care if it's Satan or God himself! They'll have to go through me!

His phone ringing interrupted his thoughts, and he smiled upon seeing that it was Hedwig. Answering the call, Spiroz said," Hey, Hedwig."

"Hey, Spiro! I wondered if you were free tomorrow since it's a Saturday after all. A carnival's going to be in town for a few days, so I figured we could go together and have fun!" Hedwig asked with excitement in her tone.

"That sounds great, but I'm afraid I have to decline. My family and I are going to see my big sister and her new boyfriend tomorrow at the capital," Spiroz answered. "But I can go Sunday if that's an option?"

"Sure! Hope you like your sister's boyfriend," Hedwig said. "By the way, the book you gave me is great! I was even able to find...um..."

"Hedwig?" Spiroz asked, tilting his head upon hearing his friend go silent. "Is something wrong?"

"No, just...I kinda need to confess something the next time we meet," Hedwig said with a sigh. "It's nothing bad! Promise. But I guess you deserve to know the truth. I'll tell you Sunday, though. Don't worry."

"O-Oh, okay," Spiroz replied while feeling a sense of guilt worming into his heart. He had suspected that Hedwig had told him a few times that she was keeping something a secret about herself just like him. However, here she was, getting ready to talk about it while he was still cowering in fear. Then again, whatever she has to say, I doubt it will be as big as mine.

" Anyway, I'll talk to you later," Hedwig said. "I got this math homework to do. Talk to you tomorrow!"

"Bye," Spiroz said as the two hung up. He paused and rubbed his chin. "I wonder what she wants to tell me?"

Hedwig sighed as she hung up her phone and plopped her head on her pillow inside her room. Most would be surprised to find it so small in size, especially since every home in Heaven was transdimensional in terms of space. Meaning you could make it as big or broad as you want on the inside, and it wouldn't even look as big on the outside. Yet, Hedwig made it as typical as a standard bedroom back on Earth, complete with a bookshelf of her favorite books, including those on demonology.

Other items in her room included: her one hundred inch plasma screen tv complete with gaming consoles, both Earth and Heaven made, a white oak desk with her homework and personal projects, a white oak dresser and a queen-sized bed with velvet covers and pillows, and finally multiple posters of various video games she adored as well as a few religious items such as crosses, pictures of essential angels in history, and bible verses on wooden plaques.

"I wonder how he's going to take it?" Hedwig thought as she closed her eyes while sadly smiling. "Hmm, I think he'll take it well. I mean, not every angel cares about it here...save for the stuffy traditionalist types that can't move on from Post-Old Testament Days and their families."

Sighing again, Hedwig rolled out of bed and decided to walk outside of her room. The hallways of the Edwardian-style mansion her family lived in were sparkling clean and perfect as always. Various photos of her family were on the walls, with a few family heirlooms and pictures of her father's battles during the wars against Hell. It was ironic, considering her best friend was a demon.

Hedwig smiled upon thinking about her secret friend, Sprioz. She had been excited to finally meet a demon face to face after years of studying them and learning all there was about them from her parents. Like most angels her age, she had been born after the peace between the two realms, which resulted in the end of the Exterminations. Despite many angels still saying that demons couldn't be trusted or were pure evil beings of darkness, Hedwig and others like her believed that change was possible. After all, Queen Charlie had redeemed the first row of sinners for the first time in nearly years that allowed them to access Heaven. She was making new plans and changes to keep the peace and wanted to end hostilities. It was pretty different compared to Lucifer's reign, but Hedwig suspected both sides were comfortable with it for the most part.

After all, most angels and demons (she suspected at least) hated war. The Angels were naturally peaceful and wanted things in harmony despite always fighting against the forces of darkness to protect God's work. And the demons, despite being more bloodthirsty, must have been tired of constantly losing to Heaven while having to see millions of their fellow demons die in pointless battles and exterminations over and over again.

Yes, peace might have been fragile, but it was a better alternative than before.

"Well, well, Elrohir, it seems our sister has finally come out of her hiding hole," A cheery voice said, which made Hedwig pause to roll her eyes.

"No doubt talking to her mysterious friend, Elladan. The one she refuses to talk about."

Turning around, Hedgwig folded her arms and gazed over the two smirking near-identical snow owl angels that were her older twin brothers. Unlike Hedwig, they were massive with big puffed-out chests and muscled arms due to their military training. Their spots were also identical, with black dots on their cheeks, wings, and legs, but there was some difference between the two to help tell them apart. Unlike her hair, the two twins had opted for a near mohawk-like look with their feathery hair. Each twin had a different color for the tips of the feathery parts, depending on the twin. If you wanted to talk to Elladan, you looked for the one with red tips. And for Elrohir, you looked for the one with blue tips. Of course, it didn't help that they changed their feather dye every so often, with only their mother being able to tell them apart regardless of what tactic they tried. And just like with Hedwig named after a character from a book series, her older brothers were named by their parents after a set of elf twins from Tolkien's work.

"I think she spent about an hour inside her room this time," Elrohir commented while looking at his brother with a sly grin.

"Oh, must be shorter than the two and half hours she had last time," Elladan replied with an equally large smile.

"Think it's a girl she's talking to about makeup and hair? The kind of thing that all girls talk about when not thinking about which boy they want to make out with?"

"Oh, it could be a boy instead. A secret loving crush that she wishes to marry someday and be the bride of her fantasy while her prince charming takes her off her feet to paradise."

"Oh, how I wish we could meet them," The twins said before turning to Hedwig. "Hint. Hint."

"I told you two last time. The answer is no," Hedwig said, folding her arms and glaring at her brothers despite smirking. "My friend wishes to keep our relationship anonymous, and I want to respect their wishes in doing so."

Elladan got on his knee and started pleading with his sister as if he was Oliver Twist asking for more food. "Oh, dear and sweet kindest of sisters-"

Elrohir snorted. "Kindest my tail feathers. She filled your tub water with invisible dye coloring that turned your feather colors into magenta for a week!"

"-will you not please tell us? Or at least tell me so I can hold it over Elrohir's head for a bit until he gives me something good in return," The red-feathered tipped twin said before his brother kicked him in the head.

"Or you can tell me, and I can make it worth your while! My ex-girlfriend, Lucy, still works at Six Halos! She can get me a discount for you and your friend-slash-boyfriend!" Elrohir shouted with just as much begging in her eyes.

"Oh, what if it's a girlfriend I'm talking to? As in a female partner that I want to go to bed with one day?" Hedwig teased, which made both her brother's eyes go wide open. She chuckled before shaking her head. "Just kidding. He's a boy, but we're not dating."

"Darn, there goes my bet," Elrohir muttered as he handed over a set of bills to a grinning Elladan. "At least tell us his name?"

"Sorry, I said too much already," Hedwig said as she made her way down the hall. "Besides, If I give you his name, you two might start thinking of children for us by combining our names for them."

"Well, at least answer us one question," Elrohir asked, and his twin, as if thinking the same thing, nodded in agreement. "Is he cute?"

Hedwig paused and blinked. Cute? Well...I guess he is...I mean, those horns on his head are really adorable, and his eyes are big and make me think of a cat when I see them. His fathers aren't a bad color either.

"She's thinking about it. That means the mystery boy is very cute," Elladan said, which made Hedwig blush, but that only made his smile grow more. "I see red on her face. And you know what that means, Elrohir?"

"She finds him super cute," The other twin answered as the two high-fived and laughed at Hedwig's attempts to walk away and hide her blush. "Don't deny the fire burning in your heart, Hedwig! Embrace the emotions and fly to the Heavens with them."

Hedwig almost wanted to shout that chances are she'd be falling into Hell instead, given the circumstances. Still, she held her tongue and just instead hurried away from her laughing brothers while hoping she could get the image of Spiroz's cute smile out of her head.

Sadly, it didn't take.
