AN: We're back with another chapter. Enjoy
Disclaimer: I do not own Helluva Boss or Hazbin Hotel. Spiroz belongs to DaniDraws but Hedwig is my OC
Needless to say, things weren't easy for the Goetia-Imp family for the next few days. Reporters hounded the palace as the full might of the guards held them back. It didn't stop news stations from reporting on the entire incident, with many publicly calling for Spiroz to be punished for what he had done. Many of Fizzarolli's fans had taken to the streets, mourning his death and angry that nobody hadn't avenged him. Thankfully, Moxxie and Millie, plus their kids, were ignored by the angry mobs, but that did little to calm them down. I.M.P. took a significant hit in sales, but it wasn't bad enough to hurt the company in the long run. Too many demons were selfish in their desires for revenge, so this would only be a tiny dry run. Still, that didn't mean things were okay on the political front.
Just as Octavia predicted, her enemies in court tried to use the entire incident against her, from accusing her brother of being an angel in disguise to outright colluding with Heaven against Hell. Thankfully, there were cameras and eyewitnesses who all painted the truth: Spiroz was going to be attacked, and Fizzarolli was aiming to kill him. What happened to him was merely self-defense, even if Spiroz never tried to do anything to defend himself.
Plus, Samuel's word was more than enough to help due to his reputation. He was adamant in his defense of his girlfriend and his family. He claimed that Fizzarolli had started everything, and the attempted murder would have been deadly for Sprizo or Blitzo based on his point of view. Octavia was lucky her boyfriend didn't care about the incident so long as she and her family were okay, and it only made her love him more. The difficult part was lying about how she was the one who had given Spiroz the Evil Eye from one of her angel associates that visited the court.
That led to one of the most common and yet necessary evils in politics: backstage negotiations. Octavia had no choice but to agree to a demand from one of these said angels to lie on her behalf. What would be asked in return, she kept to herself, but Octavia assured her family that it would be dealt with later down the road.
In the end, Queen Charlie ruled the incident as self-defense, much to the outcry of many. This only increased the protests and even a few assassination attempts, but they didn't get far. All of this was just too much for Spiroz to handle. He used the excuse of wanting to be in his room to hang out with Hedwig whenever he had the chance to clear his mind.
"I still don't get the movie," Spiroz said as he and Hedwig left the movie theaters in town dressed in their human disguises. They had just seen the remake of Dune, and Hedwig wanted to see it since her brothers were fans of the original and talked about how it, and the books they were based on, was greater than Star Wars or Star Trek. "The plot is so all over the place and the characters speak as if the audience is supposed to know how this sci-fi world works. Not to mention the actors act all emotionless and flat. I hate to see how the original was."
"I thought it was pretty good. I mean, the graphics were neat to see," Hedwig said with a cheerful tone as she skipped a bit. "Plus, I think Paul Atreides makes a good main character."
"Eh, I think a good sci-fi main character is someone like Bernard Quatermass or The Doctor from Doctor Who," Spiroz said with a shrug. "Anyway, want to get something to eat?"
"Sure," Hedwig said with a smile as the two walked over to a nearby sandwich restaurant.
However, neither of the two knew that two groups were watching them. The first was Hedwig's brothers, who were watching, invisible, from the top of the movie theater.
"So, what did you think of the movie? Does it hold to the original?" Elrohir asked his twin, who rubbed his chin.
"I think the concept of splitting the movies makes sense, but the visuals just didn't hold up, and acting is sub-par at best," Elladan answered.
"I agree as well. Not terrible, but at all comparable to the original," Elrohir answered. He gazed down at his sister and her best friend. "They've been hanging out quite a lot the past few weeks."
"Considering what's going on, I do not blame them," Elladan snorted in disgust. "To think that these demons would blame an innocent person for the death of what sounded like a horrible clown filled with spite and hatred. I know it's Hell and all, but even they should have some common sense. As for this Fizzarolli character? The universe is far better without him as far as I am concerned."
"Still, father and mother are getting suspicious of our sister disappearing so often as well as our lack of attendance," Elrohir pointed out with a frown. "Options?"
"Well, we'll have to stay at home a bit more from now on and time our sister watching later. Besides, I trust Spiro enough to be a gentleman. When it gets serious, we should consider confronting her about this," Elrohir suggested."
"And by serious, you mean?"
"Oh, you know what I mean."
"Too bad the others could join us today," Mitzy said as she and her twin brother sat at their table far away from Spiroz and Hedwig in the outdoor dining area. The two were wearing amulets made from Octavia that allowed them to have a human appearance, with both appearing Caucasian with their natural hair color and styles. They had to change their outfits to matching blue shirts with Nintendo logos on them and short jeans, so Spiroz didn't recognize them, however. Thankfully, he didn't. He even glanced in their direction a few times without reacting once.
Mitzy took her amulet and grinned. "Think we can use these to sneak into other places on Earth? I've always wanted to go to Sea World."
"When did you ever become a fan of the sea?" Milton asked, eating one of his fries from his order.
"I'm not," Mitzy admitted before taking out a Sig Sauer P365. "I wanna see if I can do what Ma did with that demonic whale in that competition with Verosika Mayday with Shamu, but with a gun."
"Put that away!" Milton hissed as he reached down and forced his sister to hide the gun. "Human kids aren't supposed to own guns and show them in public!"
"Sorry, still kinda getting used to human customs," Mitzy replied with a nervous blush as she rubbed the back of her head.
Sighing, Milton pinched his nostrils and asked, "What are Spiro and Hedwig doing?"
"Still eating from the loaded potato skins they ordered. I swear I can't tell if they're hanging out as friends or as a couple," Mitzy answered with an amused smirk.
"That cute?" Milton asked as he turned around just in time to see Hedwig flick some melted cheese and bacon bits into Spiroz's face. The owl-imp hybrid giggled and responded by stealing the last potato wedge, much to the angel's frustration which caused her cheeks to puff. However, Spiroz then poked one of the cheeks to cause it to deflate, making Hedwig laugh.
Much as the two were doing their best to act as friends, anyone could easily mistake this as a date. It was clear that there was something more than friendship developing between the two, but neither had either realized it or wasn't acting on it out of fear.
Moaning, Milton turned away and rolled his eyes. "Oh, dear Satan. This is diabetic."
"Come on, Mil," Mitzy responded to her brother with a warm smile. "It's just like seeing Ma and Pa when they're acting all lovey-dovey."
"Yeah, but that's our parents, Mitz," Milton said as he nodded in the direction of Spiroz and Hedwig, who just got their main courses from the waiter. "This is Spiro. Our best friend? Practically our brother? And need I remind you that he's doing this with an angel?"
"So? Honestly, they kinda look cute together," Mitzy said with a happy sigh. "It's kinda romantic. A demon and an angel falling in love together."
"Romantic, but dangerous," Milton replied as he shook his head. "You know this will only worsen Spiro's life if this gets known. Especially if he starts dating Hedwig."
"We'll cross that bridge when we get to it," Mitzy waved her brother's worries away. "In the meantime, let's get some dessert."
"Well, I had another fun time today," Hedwig said as the two continued to walk through their usual place in the forest. They were no longer using their human disguises, and Ascarios was grazing nearby after flying them back from the town.
Spiroz sighed solemnly yet smiled in agreement. Truth be told, hanging out with Hedwig in the human world was probably what had kept his sanity in check these past few weeks. It was like the difference between night and day for him. His family was so busy making sure he was safe they didn't have as much time with him, so it provided him a means to relax. "I wish I wasn't going back. I wish I could stay here."
"Still bad, huh?" Hedwig asked sympathetically, which earned her a nod. "I wish there was something I could do."
Grabbing her hands, Spiroz lifted them close to his chest and smiled warmly at her as he gazed into her heavenly eyes. "You've done more than enough, Hedwig. I really couldn't be this happy without you. Besides, I don't think this will go on forever. At some point, I'll be able to show my face again."
Hopefully, Spiroz thought.
"Well, you know I'm always there when you need me, right?" Hedwig asked as she hugged him close, and the two started blushing upon feeling their feathers against one another.
A weird feeling began to wash over Spiroz as he felt his heart beating with Hedwig's, with the two organs working side by side in perfect unity. He felt his head starting to heat the more he spread his arms around his best friend's waist and dragged her closer. Looking at her eyes again, he felt lost in them, and her warm smile only made him feel like he was about to lift off. Hedwig appeared to be in the same trance as he was, neither knowing why but they liked how they were feeling.
A neigh from Ascarios made the two snap out of their daydreaming and quickly separated with deep blushes on their cheeks. Coughing into his hand, a nervously grinning Spiroz opened a portal and nodded his head to Hedwig. "Um, I'll see you later?"
"Y-yeah, see ya," Hedwig replied as Spiroz gave one last smile at her before disappearing into the portal. Once he was gone, she sighed and slowly walked over to the pegasus, who, sensing her emotions, began to lick her hand as she petted his snout.
She softly cooed while nuzzling her father's war house before whispering, "What's wrong with me, Ascarios? Do you know what I am feeling?"
Ascarios huffed and licked her face, making her wince at the sticky saliva on her face.
"Heh, I guess that's what I get for asking a pegasus," Hedwig giggled before opening her portal to Heaven. "Let's head home, boy. I can...figure this out later."
Ascarios neighed in agreement as the two headed back to paradise.
You never forget your first love. It was unique to you all your life because it was the first time you opened your heart to another person. When you become one in the act of pure physical connection and emotional unity, you think it's going to be good forever, but there is always something that comes around to mess it up. Sometimes it comes out of nowhere. Other times it's been developing in the back for a long time. Anyone or anything could cause it to happen, even something beyond your control. However, Blitzo knew he had nobody to blame but himself for what happened to him and Fizzarolli.
Sitting on his bed in his and Stolas's grand bedroom, the imp looked at the phone that showed a picture of him and Fizzarolli on their anniversary. Both of them had just turned seventeen and were legally adults in the eyes of Hell. They were wearing the shirts at Mammon's huge public birthday bash that year while Fizz was wrapping his arms around Blitzo, who was taking the picture. It was hard to believe there was a time when the famous performer had any positive expression when he stared at Blitzo. But back then, the two lovers wanted to be together forever. After all, they had practically known each other since they were toddlers and had big dreams to run Fizzarolli's family circus together.
And then Blitzo fucked it up.
The first in a long string of fuck ups that would not just hurt the imp but those associated with him as well, both lovers, friends, and family.
Sighing, Blitzo slowly got up and made his way to the outdoor balcony, where he stared at the stars in the sky. He had been pushing this out of his mind since the incident and focused on ensuring his family was safe from the backlash. However, today had been Fizzarolli's funeral. Every major news channel had displayed it and it was the most talked about event in Hell online.
Seeing Fizzarolli's closed casket, surrounded by flowers of all kinds, made it hit home for Blitzo that his former best friend and ex-lover was dead. Dead and gone forever. He could still hear Fizzarolli screaming in agony and watched as the holy flames burned the clown into ashes. It reminded Blitzo so much of the fire that made his former lover the crippled imp he was. Was it fate that he died in such a similar way that ended their first relationship and made them bitter enemies? Or was it just plain fucking bad luck as always?
A pair of feathery arms wrapped around his neck as Blitzo closed his eyes and took in the scent of his husband. The smell of his lavender and astral warmth filled his lungs with calmness as the owl prince began to stroke his horns in comfort.
"How are you feeling?'
"...I don't know," Blitzo whispered as he let himself rest on his husband's chest and sighed. "I really did hate him. I know why he hated me, and I deserved it, but to drag you and everyone else into our feud? That I couldn't forgive. He hurt my son. Hell, he tried to kill our son today. I was going to kill him right then and there if Spiro's little pendant didn't do it."
"And yet, you also have regret," Stolas whispered with a knowing soft smile.
"... I was responsible for the misery in his life," Blitzo whimpered as he felt a tear drip down his eye. "I loved him once, first as a brother and then as a lover. He was my first...I was his...there are things about me that nobody can understand but him. Well, save for you." Stolas kissed his cheek for that. "I hurt him so much, both him and his family. After all they did for me after Mom died, I just wanted to help, but I fucked it up. I should have gone to the hospital when he was admitted, but I was too much of a chickenshit. I couldn't look at him and see what I had done. I was too ashamed. Maybe if I did, things would have been better. Maybe we would have broken up, but at least he and I would..."
Lowering his head, Blitzo whispered, "It just feels wrong, you know? I ruined his life, and now I helped play a role in ending it. How am I supposed to feel about that?"
"Blitzy," Stolas muttered as he made his lover turn around and looked at him seriously. "He tried to kill our son."
Blitzo instantly felt his hands clenched upon hearing that.
"You said it yourself. Fizzarolli brought others into your feud without caring who he hurt to get to you. He's done just as many horrible things to you that went beyond a grudge. The man was obsessed with his hatred, and he would never have stopped until you were dead," Stolas whispered as he hugged him close. "I'm not saying you shouldn't feel guilty. I sometimes honestly feel that way regarding Stella and how I messed up our relationship despite all she's done. But don't think for a second he didn't deserve it for trying to kill you or our innocent little boy. The Fizzarolli you knew died a long time ago and was replaced with someone of pure vengeance and spite. You heard him. He wanted nothing more than to ruin your life. And our life is precious not just to me but to everyone in our family. Including our son."
Closing his eyes, Bltizo felt a few more tears drip down as he buried his face into his lover's chest and wept. He knew Stolas was right, but it still hurt to see that he was gone. Blitzo knew he would get over it soon. He had to if he was going to protect his family from the backlash of all of this.
But just for tonight. Blitzo would mourn. Not just for his oldest friend, but for what they once had in the memories deep inside his heart.
Meanwhile, in the heart of the Lust Ring, someone else was in mourning. He had been in deep mourning ever since he heard the news. For in this bedroom, surrounded by bottles of alcohol and sobbing like the mess that he was, is none other than the Ring Lord of Lust: Asmodeus, known as Ozzie to his friends. His reason for spending all this time in drunken sorrow and bitter regret was for the death of the one demon in all of Hell that made him, the ultimate luster of perversion and deviance, fall in love: Fizzarolli.
That one imp, who had flipped his heart around, had been the love of Asmodeus's life and yet also a risk to everything he had. Being the Ring Lord of Lust, love was the antithesis of what he was supposed to stand for. He was supposed to support mindless sex, perversion of all kinds, and perfect selfish pleasure. Yet there was always more to Asmodeus than this. As millennia went on, such things became dull and mindless to him. There was no joy or fulfillment in the acts that would have made him happy as a clown. All it did was offer emptiness.
Unless he met someone just as empty as him, for Fizzarolli had found his life empty not long after his accident and his rebirth into a new entertainer of the masses. Mainly struggling to find the will to survive despite his achievements and fame since he had nobody to share them with. The fire and the betrayal had left scars that never healed, and it changed him
Fizzy had told Ozzie of the nasty and horrible imp who ruined his life and led his family to bankruptcy. He told him how that family soon began to leech on him for money and favors thanks to his newfound fame, and he felt like he was only their money purse instead of a loved one. It was clear they were still bitter about selling the entire circus for his own life, even if they did blame Blitzo as well.
Something clicked between the two because soon after bedding each other, they secretly started going on dates. They were whispering soothing and loving words to one another to deal with their issues. And slowly fill the holes in their hearts. Of course, they had to make it look like their relationship was strictly physical and professional. It was all for Ozzie's image, not to mention it would make them look like hypocrites for all their shit throwing at Blitzo and Stolas for their relationship. Sadly, it got exposed, and questions were rising.
Ozzie knew that if he came out to the world that he was in love with an Imp of all things, his position as a Ring Lord would be at risk. He had to choose: his title or Fizzarolli.
To his everlasting shame, he chose the former. He told Fizzarolli they had to end it, and he didn't take it well.
No, he took it very, very badly. Ozzie could still remember the last thing Fizzarolli ever said to him:
"You know...I thought when Blitz abandoned me after the shit he pulled...I would never feel anything as bad as this...but I guess I was wrong...because this? This hurts more than that fire. This hurts so much, Fizz. And I can't help but wonder why everyone I love always betrays me in the end. I guess the lesson is clear: never fall in love. Because you'll always get burned."
Ozzie couldn't look at himself for a month after that. In the years that followed, he rarely made any public appearances and always kept watch over his Fizzy. Ozzie wanted to tell him he was sorry. To take everything back, but he was too afraid and ashamed. But now, he would never get that chance because he was gone. Forever. Dead at the hands of that twisted abomination from those two motherfucking bastards who hurt his Fizzarolli.
Ozzie slowly lifted his flaming head up as his once greenish-blue flame began to turn black and reddish, with his face growling with fury. He would avenge his Fizzy. He would make them all pay.
He would make Spiroz Goetia suffer and kill him if it was the last thing he ever did.
