Mid May

Over the next two weeks since what was known as The Slappening around the office happened, things were better. Kurt showed up to recording sessions completely sober and Blaine kept his nose in his laptop. They were cordial to each other and everything was going smoothly. Kurt and Blaine worked dutifully on music and nothing else.

But then there were the phone calls. And the texts. And the few times they went to get food or Blaine took Kurt to the music store the singer proceeded to lose his shit over. But those were just friendly things.

Kurt still flirted with Blaine, but it wasn't as intense as before. He had backed off a lot, mostly because he didn't want to make Blaine uncomfortable.

Towards the end of May, they decided to release their first single and see how it went. They promoted it heavily on their fan pages, each member of the band promising to take a shirtless picture if they helped get their music out there. Blaine had been correct in assuming that they had a decent underground following and the news spread like a fire in dry grass.

The shirtless photo shoot was fun. Blaine insisted he had to be there because of work, but they all teased him mercilessly about just wanting to see them shirtless. Tina and Dani had gotten matching bras and skirts and they had to beg Puck to wear pants.

"I'll go full nude!" He said in one of their meetings about it. "I'm talking frontal and all. I have no boundaries."

"We are fully aware," Blaine said as he attempted to rub his stress headache away. "But for this, I'm going to need you to wear bottoms. Just no shirt. That's all."

"I'm serious. I don't even wear underwear! I'll show my dick!"

"Literally no one is asking you to."

Puck had huffed and flopped back in his chair. "Fine, but never question how far I'm willing to go for this band."

"I believe you," Nick had chimed in, his eyes wide.

So they had done it and Kurt had taken sick pleasure in watching Blaine try to look at anything that wasn't him shirtless, but then the producer looked over and saw Elliott shirtless and proceeded to look very uncomfortable. The two were enjoying making him squirm. Then his eyes had landed on Puck who was doing weird poses to make his muscles look bigger so he looked away as fast as possible from that. But then the girls were standing there sipping some water in just bras and skirts and he felt weird about that even though he was gay and had no interest. But then Kurt kept asking him questions and finding reasons to flex and Blaine had ended up literally running into a wall.

It had been torture.

But it had been worth it because the fans held up their end of the deal and shot them up the charts. They lost their collective shit when they posted the pictures to their fan page.

Vicious and Love Bites were the first singles and when they got the news they were on the top one hundred rock charts, they all started screaming in happiness.

"You know what this means!" Puck shouted as he squeezed Tina and Dani. "We are celebrating!"

"Bayard's?" Elliott asked. That was their second home apparently.

"Bayard's!" Everyone agreed enthusiastically.

Kurt sidled up to Blaine. He felt like he was playing a very precarious game of cat and mouse these last few weeks.

"You are coming with us right?"

Blaine shrugged at him and stuck files in his bag. He had seemed happy too, but he had been a little off that afternoon. "I don't think I should, but you guys go on. It's your night."

"A night that wouldn't be possible without you," Kurt argued. He put his hand over Blaine's bag. "Come. For me?" Kurt knew it wasn't fair, but he used his best begging face that used to sway his dad into letting him go shopping without supervision and made men drop their pants. He even flashed his tongue ring at Blaine. Innocently, of course. He could see Blaine waver. The man was so close to crumbling.

"Nick and Jeff are in!" Elliott called brightly. "I think they have a crush on me. Now you have to come, Blaine. They need you so they don't feel awkward being the only ones from the label there." Elliott grinned smugly at Kurt as they fist bumped.

"See? We need you." Kurt leaned closer to Blaine until they were only a few inches apart. "I need you. Someone had to tell me if I'm drinking too much." He let his eyes slide down to Blaine's mouth and he was gratified to see Blaine's throat work as he swallowed hard.

"Fine. For a little while."

Kurt grinned and pulled him out the door.

"But what about my clothes? Should I change?"

"You're perfect."

The night was going splendidly thus far.

When they first arrived, Elliott had gone to order them all shots and the rest found a big table in the corner. Then Nick and Jeff arrived and they all laughed and shouted over the thumping music around the table, making toasts to each other. Nick took Jeff to the dance floor while the song Savage by BLACKPINK was playing and Kurt watched Blaine watching them fondly. He saw the moment the happy smile melted into longing and he couldn't stand it, so he drug Blaine out to the floor and made him dance to I Was Born to Love You by Queen until he smiled again. This time they danced, he did silly moves like twirled Blaine around and shimmied his shoulders in an exaggerated fashion, making Blaine laugh.

A few more drinks later and they were all feeling great. One of them would periodically check to see their standing on the charts. They just kept going up.

"I'm gonna go piss," Kurt said and blinked at Blaine in a way he thought he was winking, but pretty sure it didn't work that way if the amused grin on his face was any indication. "Wanna come hold my dick for me?"

Blaine's nose wrinkled. "I'm good."

Kurt shrugged. "Your loss."

"Is he going to be okay?" He heard Blaine ask as he wobbled to the bathroom.

"I'll go with him," Elliott said and soon he was beside him.

"I don't really need help, Ell," Kurt grumbled as he pushed open the door. He winced. It was too damn bright in there. "I'm just trying to get Blaine alone."

"I'm aware," Elliott replied as he patted Kurt's back gently. They went directly to the urinals. "I thought you were past the whole trying to screw Blaine thing," Elliott said carefully.

Kurt felt so much better now that his bladder was empty. He opened his eyes and wished he wouldn't have. The light stabbed him behind his eyes. "I never give up. You know this." He flushed and turned to the sinks. Another guy was standing there washing his hands and gave Kurt an appreciative look.

It would have been so easy to drag that guy back into a stall and have a little fun or invite him to the dance floor, but all Kurt could think of was curly hair and hazel eyes and how hurt he would be if Kurt was with another guy. For the first time in as long as he could remember, Kurt didn't want just anyone. He wanted one person in particular. Best to not dwell on why that was for very long.

Kurt looked away from the guy without giving him any signal and he left. Kurt was washing his hands and then primping in the mirror when Elliott joined him. He was giving Kurt a look he didn't understand.

"What?"

"Is this… Do you actually like him?"

Kurt knocked the water off with a knuckle and shook his hands. Apparently there were no paper towels.

"Of course I do. I like lots of people. Even you sometimes."

"I meant—"

"Oops, they are playing my song. Gotta go!"

Before Elliott could ask him anymore dangerous questions, Kurt ducked out of the bathroom and hurried back to his table. The stadium level lights in the bathroom and Elliott's pestering had sobered him a little. He decided to fix that and ordered another drink before going back to the others. He was going to say something nasty just for the shock value when he overheard Blaine telling Dani and Tina something. Puck was off doing god knew what and Nick was dancing with Jeff again.

"He's just drunk. When he gets wasted he acts awful."

Kurt's heart dropped. Was Blaine talking about him? He was about to defend himself when Tina leaned over the table.

"And you were engaged?"

Blaine sighed and nodded slowly. "Yeah, but he ended it back in February. It was my birthday."

The girls gasped and Kurt wanted to. Blaine had been engaged? What the hell? How had he not known this? Who would be fucking stupid enough to give up Blaine when you had a ring on him? It was unthinkable. And on his fucking birthday? Jail.

"Well, it was a few days before my birthday. I was pretty devastated, but if I hadn't been for that then I wouldn't have had the courage to start this project with you guys." Blaine smiled and held his half empty cup up in a toast. "I guess I made lemons out of lemonade."

Dani and Tina tapped their glasses together and took a drink before Dani said, "So he's really texting you after almost three months and begging for you back?"

Blaine's ex wanted him back? But, he couldn't! He gave Blaine up!

Blaine picked up his phone and showed them a string of text messages. "Sort of. He's definitely drunk though because he can't spell when he's been drinking. We've kept in contact and he did apologize for hurting me, but it's been innocent stuff. Earlier today he texted me wanting to talk and then he's been texting me all night saying he made a mistake and wants to get back together."

"What are you going to do?" Tina asked. "Are you getting back together with him?"

Kurt glared at Tina who needed to shut the fuck up and stop giving Blaine stupid ideas.

"No. It's funny, because maybe a month ago I would have. Hell, maybe even a week ago. But I've started realizing that I like who I am better without him than with him. I asked him to come home if he meant it and he said no. There wasn't enough give and take with him. I felt like I was doing all the giving and none of the taking. Seb's not a bad guy, but I just think he was right. We wouldn't have been happy. Sorry, I'm rambling."

"No!" The girls both assured him and Tina grabbed his hands. Tina was starting to annoy Kurt. "Blaine, we are here for you. You deserve the best!"

"Yeah," Dani agreed. "You are welcome to talk to us anytime."

The song had changed as they sipped their drink and Kurt wondered if he should announce his presence now. But he really wanted to know if Blaine was going to say more about this ex. He had no idea why he was obsessed, but he was.

I'll chew you up and I'll spit you out

'Cause that's what young love is all about

So pull me closer and kiss me hard

I'm gonna pop your bubblegum heart

I'm miss sugar pink, liquor, liquor lips

Hit me with your sweet love, steal me with a kiss

I'm miss sugar pink, liquor, liquor lips

I'm gonna be your bubblegum bitch

I'm gonna be your bubblegum bitch

Blaine's phone rang and he wiped his palms off on his pants. "Oh god. He's FaceTiming me! What should I do?"

"Answer it," Tina suggested. "Maybe he's sobered up and wants to apologize?"

Finally Tina had a goddamn good idea. Now he could get a look at this guy.

"Nah, just leave it," Dani said as she sipped her drink. "Then he'll get the hint."

Blaine slid a finger down the side of his phone case in contemplation. Kurt was torn over wanting to see this bastard and wanting him to go away forever. Blaine finally picked up the phone.

"I should answer. I may not be in love with him, but I do still care about him."

He answered right as it was about to stop ringing. From first glance, Kurt guessed 'Seb' could be considered handsome even thought he was slightly sweaty and obviously intoxicated. Kurt bet he smelled like Craig's list. The girls made sure to stay out of the frame. Kurt could see Blaine's face was nervous as he answered.

"Hey, Sebastian. What's up?"

Sebastian (what a stupid name) narrowed his eyes at Blaine. Wherever he was, it was dark as well. Like he was on a street or something. "Don't 'what's up' me! You never answered me!"

"Seb, I don't think—"

"You said yes once before!" The guy was definitely wasted. He almost dropped his phone as he stumbled over something. "I realize I miss you and I want you. It just took me a few months."

"Sebastian, where are you?"

"Let's just elope!" Sebastian was scratching at his neck where his button up was open at the collar. "Come on! I know you like all that romantic shit, but it'll be fun to just tell everyone we got married!"

Blaine frowned. "Listen, you need to go inside your hotel or wherever you're staying. You're going to get mugged or hit by a car wandering around by yourself in this state."

"Oh my god! Do you ever shut up?" Sebastian huffed. "I'm trying to propose to you and all you can do is try to boss me around! This is why I dumped you. You're so annoying! And you suck in bed."

Blaine's shoulders dropped and his face fell. Dani and Tina watched in horror. Kurt was about to lose his shit, but one look at Blaine's hurt face made him wait.

"That's the first thing I did, you know. After I left you." Sebastian burped and stumbled again. "I went out and fucked whoever I wanted. And I didn't miss you." He frowned. "But I do now. I want some of that tea you would make me and I wouldn't get a hangover. Where do you get that tea?"

Blaine sniffed. He wasn't even looking at Sebastian anymore. "I blend a bunch of teas together. I really think you should go back to your room and get some sleep. You're getting belligerent now—"

"Ugh, are you crying?" Sebastian rolled his eyes. "I was just joking. See? You're too sensitive. This is why everyone leaves you."

Blaine hung up before he could say anything else. Kurt's heart ached for him. How dare that little dick treat Blaine that way and make his face look like that.

"Wow," Dani said. "This is why I'm glad I'm attracted to women."

"Are you okay?" Tina asked Blaine. He smiled at her with only half his face. His eyes stayed sad.

"I think I'm gonna go." The girls protested but Blaine shook his head. "Sorry, I just don't think I'm going to be much fun."

Elliott finally came back from the bathroom and wrapped an arm around Kurt's shoulders. "What are you just standing here for?"

Dani, Tina, and Blaine turned around and Blaine's face fell at the sight of them. Kurt could see how bright with tears his eyes looked and his blood boiled.

"Uh… How much of that did you hear?" Blaine looked down and rubbed his arm.

Kurt vaulted over the back of the booth and plopped down next to Blaine. The girls scooted over as Elliott sat down beside them. He walked around like a normal person. Kurt got very close to Blaine's face.

"Hey. Look at me."

Blaine finally did. Kurt wondered when he had learned how to tell just by the way Blaine's eyes drooped and the set of his mouth when he was embarrassed and upset.

"You are better than that jackass. What he said was bullshit and not true."

"I just didn't think he could be so cruel." Blaine's eyes welled up again and he laughed bitterly. "He's just like this when he drinks. Sober he's actually a decent guy."

"Shut up." Blaine's breath hitched as he looked back up into Kurt's eyes. Shit, he was going to make Blaine cry again. He shook his head. "Sorry. I didn't mean it that way. He's not a decent guy if he's saying all that bullshit. Any person that treats you like that or leaves you is a waste of carbon. You need to cut him off and I think I know the way to do it." Kurt turned to Elliott and snapped at him and then pointed to the other side of Blaine.

"Get over there." He turned back to a confused Blaine and started undoing his bow tie.

"Hey!"

"Elliott, we are going to make out with Blaine. Take that side. Girls, beat it. You will do nothing for him."

Dani and Tina shrugged and slid out of the booth.

"Kurt, what are you—" Blaine gasped as Kurt practically crawled in his lap and hooked a finger under his chin. He could feel Blaine's pulse racing under his fingers. Blaine was clinging to the table as if his life depended on it.

"Relax," Kurt said with a smile. "Deep breaths." He could feel Blaine relaxing as he breathed in and out. "This is what you're going to do. You are gonna call that asshole back and tell him he's not to call you anymore. Tell him you are kind of busy with us, so enjoy his sales convention or whatever the fuck it is he does again while you fuck whoever you want. And keep your name out of his filthy whore mouth."

Blaine's eyes flew wide. "I can't say that to him."

"Yes you can. You will." Kurt stroked Blaine's chin with his thumb. He was so close to him he could barely keep his hands to himself. Blaine shivered under his touch and he bit back a smile. "Today is the day that you put that obnoxious chipmunk in his place."

Kurt doubted this was the first time Blaine's ex had treated him that way by the way he reacted. They would make that asshole sorry. He leaned over and indicated Elliott should too. Then he handed Blaine his phone. Blaine jerked away as soon as his lips touched his neck.

"What are you doing?"

"Making your ex jealous. Don't you want to?"

He stared at Kurt for a few seconds and then his mouth twitched up. He nodded.

"Now call him," Kurt said and then kissed Blaine's neck. Elliott grinned impishly and began to kiss the other side of Blaine's cheek and neck.

Blaine had frozen at the attention and feeling of both of their mouths on him and Kurt smiled into the kiss he was pressing into Blaine's throat. Although he had used helping Blaine as an excuse, a rush coursed through him at finally being allowed to get this close to him. Blaine smelled amazing and Kurt greedily soaked in it as his stubble scratched his tongue and lips, the softest skin underneath the hair.

Kurt pushed the phone towards him again and Blaine seemed to wake up and pressed call. The phone rang and then Sebastian's face popped up on the screen.

"Uh… Um…"

Kurt mouthed his way up to Blaine's ear and pressed his studded tongue to Blaine's earlobe. He was gratified to feel Blaine's breath leave him. "Tell him not to call you anymore…" He prompted and nibbled Blaine's ear.

"Sebastian. I don't want you to call me anymore. And…"

"You can fuck whoever you want," Kurt whispered and kissed behind Blaine's ear. Elliott was doing something with his tongue on Blaine's collar bone that had the man squirming a little.

Blaine closed his eyes and looked serious when he opened them. He gently pushed Kurt and Elliott aside and they grinned at each other.

"I care about you," Blaine said firmly. Sebastian was just staring at him open mouthed at what was happening. He had probably never have thought he'd see sweet little Blaine making out with two guys at once. "But what you just said to me was unacceptable and I need some space from you for awhile."

"Blaine—"

"Oh, and keep my fucking name out of your whore mouth." Blaine hung up on Sebastian's stammering retort and sat back with a deep exhale. He covered his face with his hands.

Elliott winked at Kurt and left them sitting there together.

Kurt had never been this turned on in his life. He didn't know that the word fuck could be an aphrodisiac, but here they were. And the tone Blaine had used... He could use that on Kurt anytime he wanted.

With a smile, he pulled Blaine's hands down and smiled at him. Blaine looked slightly embarrassed, but relived.

"You okay?" Kurt asked gently.

"That felt really good."

"I bet."

Don't go ruining

Ruining my, my bad reputation

Don't go tellin' them

Tellin' them all the plans we've been makin'

'Cause everyone knows that I don't cry

You never see stars shining in my eyes, yeah

Ruining, ruining my, my bad reputation

Oh, no

Oh, oh, no-no

Oh, no

Oh, oh, no-no

Kurt would remember this moment as one where his heart drop kicked his brain out of the driver's seat and hijacked his body. They locked eyes and Blaine looked at his mouth once before Kurt was kissing him. He dug his fingers into Blaine's hair and Blaine immediately sucked his tongue into his mouth. Blaine tasted like alcohol and sweetness and he apparently had smoked earlier because that was underneath it all. Blaine was definitely kissing him back. He jerked Kurt further into his lap and Kurt gasped into Blaine's mouth as he felt hands began to slide down his back and knead his ass. He licked his way back into Blaine's mouth, sliding his tongue ring up and down Blaine's tongue in a show of what it could do and it almost hurt how hard Blaine squeezed him. He had bent Blaine back against the back of the booth and was seriously considering doing something that would get them kicked out when Blaine pulled away panting. Kurt's heart was beating wildly and he tried to smooth Blaine's hair back with a smile. In those few moments of bliss, Kurt searched for words to express how amazing that kiss was, but all he managed was, "Did you like what you found?" He wiggled his hips a little and Blaine immediately released him.

Reality smacked Blaine hard and the dreamy sparkle bled from his eyes.

"Oh. Oh no! Oh no, no, no."

"Blaine—"

"I have to go!" Blaine wiggled out from underneath Kurt and clawed his way out of the booth, his body making a squeaky noise against the torn vinyl. He wriggled and writhed, his foot catching on a hole. If he hadn't been trying to give Blaine his dignity, Kurt would have burst out laughing at how long it took him to crawl out. Once free, he scrambled away towards the door.

Kurt sighed and rubbed a palm tiredly down his face. He leaned forward and picked up Blaine's phone he had run off without and just held it out as the man ran back up, snatched it, and took off towards the door again.

Kurt collapsed into the booth and let his eyes slide shut. So that hadn't ended the way he wanted it to, but that kiss. Heaven. He bounced a little as someone scooted into the booth next to him, but didn't open his eyes.

"So, I'm getting the feeling that you like Blaine…"

"Shut the fuck up, Elliott." Kurt opened one eye and saw the man grinning like he had just won the lottery. "It's not a big deal."

"Oh yes it is," Elliott said. "I thought this day would never come. I'm soaking up every second. Kurt Hummel has a crush on someone." He sang the last sentence.

"I hate you sometimes." Kurt groaned and closed his eyes again, digging the heels of his hands into the sockets until he saw colors. "Fuck. What do I do?"

"Learn how to use a net, because that is one scared rabbit."

Despite the abrupt end to their kiss, Kurt couldn't stop the smile from spreading across his face. He did like Blaine and was already wanting to kiss him again.

"Fuck."

Blaine was a sweater with a hole and he had picked the thread that he SWORE he wouldn't pull and now he was unraveling.

These last few weeks had been great. Kurt had been great. Everything was great. But no matter what, his attraction to Kurt only grew. It wasn't just physically either. During their text conversations and phone calls, Blaine was coming to just generally like him as a person too.

Maybe that's why he kissed Kurt tonight. He was too familiar.

They had drank and then Sebastian called and made him feel like shit and there Kurt was, picking him up and dusting him off and telling him things that made his heart do flips. And then he kissed Kurt. Why did he kiss Kurt?

Blaine beat the heel of his hand against his forehead as he shut his bedroom door behind him. He couldn't scream because he didn't want to wake his roommate. He paced. Back and forth. He needed a cigarette. He was going to get fired. Hadn't Nick mentioned someone got fired for sleeping with the artists? Blaine stopped pacing and fell back against the wall before sliding down. He shut his eyes and quite without his permission, he was replaying the whole kiss all over again.

He couldn't deny Elliott's lips felt good on him, but with Kurt… Time stood still. When he was kissing him, it was like finally scratching an itch that was driving you crazy. It was perfect. Blaine touched his lips that still burned. He could remember how Kurt felt against him. He felt how Kurt pushed him back into the seat and how he tasted and the tongue piercing holy mother of god

He was so hard. It would be so easy to just… He slipped his hand down between his legs… Then ripped it away and stood. He shook his head and shook out his shoulders, then hands. No. If he got off to thoughts of Kurt now, his brain would create synapsids and he would associate Kurt with pleasure and Pavlov himself into a huge mistake. It had been a mistake. A careless, drunken misstep.

So Blaine took a very cold shower, got his pajamas on, and tried to sleep. He tossed and turned for an hour, his traitor brain revisiting the scene over and over again until he knew he wouldn't be able to sleep until he took care of this.

He slipped a hand into his pants and underwear and began to stroke, finally giving himself permission to remember every touch, every taste, every smell. He felt Kurt press against him and lick him and bite his ear.

"Fuuuuuuck… Kurt…" He came all over his fist and flopped back, panting.

Okay, that was it. He just needed to get it out of his system. He was fine now.

Except he still couldn't sleep once he was cleaned up and wrapped back in his covers. He growled in frustration and eyed the clock.

This was ridiculous. He had to sleep. He was not doing that again. Not ever.

Creeping through the apartment, Blaine quietly prepared some of his roommate's sleepy tea and sucked it down, then snuggled into his blankets again.

One thing was certain, he could not allow another kiss to happen. He had too carefully built his walls up and Kurt Hummel was not kicking them down. Period. The end.

Of course then Blaine was late to work the next day.

He was late because he slept through his alarm.

He slept through his alarm because he couldn't sleep.

He couldn't sleep because Kurt had kissed him.

So it was all Kurt's fault.

He rushed through security flashing his ID and grimacing rather than smiling and tapped his foot impatiently as he waited for the elevator.

When he finally arrived, everyone was waiting for him and he cursed Kurt's name again. This had to stop. He had given Kurt the wrong impression and now that he had encouraged the behavior, Kurt would be ruthless. He would flirt with him nonstop. He had to do something about this, whether that be act cold or flat out tell Kurt he made a mistake.

Except the thought of doing that left Blaine bereft, and he wasn't sure he could hurt Kurt that way. Best let him down gently then. Rationally explain why they couldn't continue whatever this thing was. They kissed and got the feelings out of their system and Blaine certainly didn't want to kiss Kurt again. Or touch him. Or pull him down on top of himself and— No. nope. Had to stop that train of thought.

He stormed into the recording studio and heard them all warming up and Nick leapt up when he saw Blaine stomp in.

"There you are! Everything okay?"

"Yup. Just fine. Are we ready?"

"I think so," Nick replied as they took their seats, Blaine tossing his work bag down beside his chair. He hadn't even looked at Kurt because he knew if he did, everyone would know. It would be revealed on his face. "I am shocked I don't have a hangover from last night," he said quietly as Blaine did some adjustments.

"Oh yeah?"

"Yeah. It was fun though. We should do that again sometime."

"I'm not really the bar type. I just went because of them."

"Yeah, it's fun every once and awhile, but maybe you and me and Jeff and your boyfriend could go see a movie sometime."

Blaine felt the room tilt. Did Nick see them? They hadn't been careful. Was he threatening him right now? Blaine felt sick.

"I don't have a boyfriend!" he exclaimed.

Nick looked up from where he was typing notes on a laptop. He raised an eyebrow at Blaine's tone, but he was smiling. "Oh, my bad. I just thought… Well, you've just been happier lately and it seemed like you were dating someone… I'll shut up now." He bent back over the computer. "We could do something with just the three of us though. It could be fun!"

Blaine nodded slowly. Maybe Nick was just trying to be nice. Maybe he didn't see anything. Blaine started to relax. "I could bring my roommate. She—"

"Blaine?" It was Kurt. At just the sound of his voice, Blaine's heart slammed a fast tattoo against his rib cage and his stomach swooped. Blaine focused on trying to breathe as he looked up. All thoughts of crushing Kurt flew out the window as their eyes met. He knew he would never be strong enough for that. He was pretty damn sure Kurt could stab him and he would just stare at him adoringly. This wasn't good at all.

"Yes?" Blaine turned his whole body to face the lead singer who was leaning out of the recording booth. He was proud at how calm he sounded.

The only giveaway that Kurt could be as devastated as him was a tiny smile he let free. "Tina wants to try some stuff on the keyboard today. Do we have time?"

Blaine blinked. "Uh, sure. That would be good."

"Great. Thanks." He slapped the door frame and was gone, back into the booth.

What? No winks or secret smiles? Kurt gave nothing away. Cold dread filtered through Blaine's veins and wove a thread around his heart. Unless the kiss meant way more to him than it did to Kurt. Maybe he decided he hated kissing Blaine and he was just going to discard him like a used napkin. But he had been so nice after the phone call last night… Blaine shook it off. Now was not the time and they were already behind schedule.

"Okay, everyone ready? Great. Let's begin."

Fuck me like you mean it

Make me worship you, I'm a believer

Come erase the static in my head

Hold me close to your chest

Like a secret you kept in the dark

Break me into pieces

Take away the breath I'm barely breathin'

I can feel you runnin' through my blood

The adrenaline rush

Hits my heart like a drug, lift me up

Blaine caught himself staring at Kurt more than once. He was different today. He was calm and serious and didn't snap at anyone. It made the session go really smoothly.

Kurt caught him staring too and the way he looked at Blaine had his body doing crazy things. He looked away quickly. Very much not good.

They were close to being finished when Blaine was called into his office for a meeting about some trademark stuff and he ate lunch alone. He had to admit that he was grateful for the break. Without Kurt to distract him, he actually got a lot done.

It was late in the afternoon when a light rap came on his door.

"Come in," he said without looking up, sure it was Nick bringing him some papers or something, but the door clicked shut and then locked and then he was staring up into beautiful blue eyes as Kurt perched on the edge of his desk.

Blaine swallowed thickly. "There's a seat over there."

"I like this better," Kurt replied as he leaned back on his hands and swung his feet. "Whatcha doing?"

"Work. What about- did you finish the song? How, uh, did it go?"

Kurt shrugged. "Oh, fine. I missed you in there though."

"Sorry." He was. He really liked being in there when they were recording. "I had some things to do up here."

Kurt studied him and Blaine tried to appear relaxed and nonchalant.

"Are you ashamed you kissed me?"

Blaine sat up so fast his seat groaned in protest.

"What? No! I mean, it can never happen again. But not because you're you, because I can't—"

Kurt's eyes practically glowed and a grin slowly took over his face. "Oooh, you liked it a little too much."

"I- I… No."

Kurt slid gracefully from his desk and stepped towards Blaine who scooted his seat away with a little foot shuffle. Kurt folded his arms and bent down where they were on the same eye level. "Admit you want to kiss me again."

"It's unethical!" Blaine blurted out and Kurt scrunched his eyebrows together.

"What?"

"You're the talent and I'm the producer."

"Sounds like the start to an excellent role play."

"I shouldn't kiss you because it's not professional. It would be taking advantage of my power."

Kurt moved closer, just a fraction and Blaine's breath hitched. "I've already signed a contract. I'll sign another that says I'm not being harassed or whatever. But right now? You have my full permission to take advantage of me. You definitely have the power."

He was staring at Blaine's mouth now.

"It wouldn't be right."

"Who cares."

"I'm not a good boyfriend."

Kurt's eyes flicked back up to Blaine's. He grabbed the chair arms and drug it back to him until they were nearly touching noses. Blaine was almost hyperventilating at this point. He wondered if his dad would come to his funeral.

"I mean it," Blaine continued, his voice shaky. "I know you don't really do the whole boyfriend thing, but I am a failure at it. I'll only annoy you or bore you or—"

"Stop."

Blaine's mouth clicked shut.

Kurt's eyes softened and he traced the slope of Blaine's cheekbone with his thumb. Blaine had no choice but to stare into Kurt's hypnotizing eyes. "I'm aware that I'm an asshole, but that doesn't mean I'm going to do what they did. It's insulting to me to insinuate anything otherwise. Hell, I'm probably not a good boyfriend either, but all I know is you are perfect the way you are and I don't care that you're not a good boyfriend. I just know I might die if you don't kiss me again."

Licking his lips, Blaine shook his head. Kurt didn't know. It was just some chemical part of him to chase people away. One fiancé leaving you was nothing. When you had a whole line of people who ditched you as fast as they could, there was something wrong with you.

Kurt pressed his forehead to Blaine's, their lips so, so close. "Tell me not to kiss you," Kurt breathed against Blaine's lips. "Tell me you don't want me and I'll back off and never bother you again. I swear. No bullshit. I won't be an asshole. We will work together and nothing else. Tell me no."

His fingers dug into the chair and his mouth opened to tell Kurt to go, but no words came out.

Kurt moved, just a fraction more until their lips were ghosting each other. His eyes were closed. He was so beautiful. "Tell me to stop," he whispered again.

Something in Blaine snapped, a barrier he didn't know he had in the defenses he had shored up against whatever this was. Kurt toed the line as far as he was going to and it was up to Blaine to step over the rest of the way. And step he did. He grabbed Kurt's shoulders and pressed forward just that little bit until their lips were pressed together. Kissing him again was like the breath you took after being under water until your lungs burned. Kurt climbed into the chair with Blaine and kissed him back ferociously, his hands cupping the back of Blaine's head. They fought for dominance of the kiss, Blaine giving as much as he was getting.

He couldn't believe this wasn't a dream. Maybe this had a shelf life and would hurt worse than everything else when it was inevitably over and maybe Blaine was a complete fool for allowing it, but nothing else existed in that moment. They were surely meant to crash in a spectacular fashion, but until then Blaine decided to let himself just burn.
