Man… I must be depressed or something. Third sad fic from me…
Sora and Riku stood on the little island with the paopu tree on it, wooden-sword fighting.
"You've gotten better," Riku laughed, while Sora managed to deflect an attack from Riku.
"Yeah, well, what'd you expect?"
"Not this, that's for sure."
When Riku fell to his knees, coughing, during the fight, Sora kneeled next to him. "Riku? Riku, you ok?"
Riku nodded. "No big deal. Just… choked on air," he said, standing back up.
Sora nodded, even though he was worried, and they resumed their fight.
O-O-O-O-O-O
It was after their fight. Riku won, of course.
They sat on a swing set, not really trying to swing. Riku held a chain from Sora's swing in his hand, and vice versa.
"You know, Sora, these chains kinda represent our friendship. Always linked, forever," Riku said.
Sora smiled. "You're right." He stood up. "Up for another fight?" Riku stood up, but quickly collapsed to his knees again. He went into another coughing fit, this time way more violent than last time.
"Riku? You need me to take you home? It is late…" Sora said. Riku stood up, but staggered a bit and nodded.
O-O-O-O-O-O
Sora was curled up in his bed, fast asleep. But it wouldn't remain this calm for long. His mom burst in the door, tears streaming. "Sora! Sora, wake up!"
Sora blinked. "What is it, Mom…?"
"It's your friend, Riku! Something's wrong!"
Sora threw the covers back and raced over to Riku's house.
O-O-O-O-O-O
"Riku!" Sora cried, flying into Riku's room. "Riku! Are you ok? What's wrong?"
Riku looked terrible. He had bags under his eyes and was obviously not getting much sleep. His usually shiny, silver hair was tousled beyond being able to smooth it out.
Riku smiled faintly. "Sora… I'm not doing good, as you can see… But Sora… There's something you should know."
Sora perked up, clinging to every word Riku said. "Sora, I'm on my deathbed. You and I both know it."
Sora's heart fell. "No, Riku… Don't talk like that. When you get better, we'll go swimming! We'll bring Kairi, a-and everything!" Sora cried, tears running down his face. He didn't believe his own words.
Riku started coughing again. This was his worst coughing fit yet. He coughed into his hand, and Sora saw red.
"Riku…!"
Riku reached over and took Sora's hand. "One day." Sora felt Riku's hand go limp.
O-O-O-O-O-O
It was two days later. Riku's funeral had just ended, and Sora was walking up to the swing set.
Riku's words surged through his mind. 'These chains represent our friendship. Always linked, forever.'
He approached the swings, only to find the swing that Riku had been sitting on was broken. The chain had rusted, and it broke.
"Always linked, forever."
END
HOLY FRICK THE RIKU FANGIRLS ARE GONNA KILL MEE! Please don't, it was a choice between Riku and Roxas. I decided Riku would be sadder… so… yeah…
