Miroku watched Sango as she joined Inuyasha and Kagome before letting out a sigh. He did not love being injured, but there really was something to be said for having a good-looking woman take care of him.

She had only just gone, and he missed the attention already. Clearly something had to be done about this.

Unfortunately, Sango had a very different idea of what that something might be. A few moments after she had rejoined the others, Shippou came bounding over to where he was waiting. "Sango said I should keep an eye on you," the kitsune explained.

"How thoughtful," he said, and, "thank you."

Being uninjured from the fight, Shippou had a great deal more energy than Miroku did just now. His eyes were wide as he inspected Miroku's bandaged arm and the numerous minor cuts that Sango had merely cleaned and not yet bandaged. "You got hurt pretty bad back there, didn't you?"

"It appears that I will live," he admitted. Perhaps if he had exaggerated the seriousness of his condition more…

"Thank goodness!"

He resisted the urge to sigh as Shippou's voice cut through his budding daydream. He would just have to save that for a more peaceful moment.

As if to confirm his assessment, any sense of peace and serenity in the aftermath of battle was immediately shattered.

"What do you mean, we have to go back to Kaede's?" Inuyasha shouted. "If anything, we should be chasing after that damn wolf!"

"Houshi-sama is seriously injured," Sango pointed out. She sounded far more patient than Miroku thought their friend deserved. The group was clearly overextended and in need of a real break after dealing with five incarnations of Naraku, but leave it to Inuyasha to still be impatient. And to have unrealistic expectations.

"Yes," Kagome agreed, "and I'm almost out of sterile bandages and antibiotics! And that's just getting started on the list of supplies we need."

Inuyasha might not have been thrilled by the girls' decision, but after a few more moments of pouting he seemed to accept the inevitable. "Fine, but we're not staying long. We can't let that mangy wolf get to Naraku before we do."

They would all just have to live with that. Ah, compromise.
