Starbuck never seemed phased by his own death. If it looked like he was about to go down, he'd simply say something or other about Cassie or Athena, and then add, "Well, I guess I'll be seeing ya." Then he'd find some way to crash on a planet, or somehow remain drifting.
And his companions would fly away with tears in their eyes.
And his companions would return, and they would save him.
Apollo wondered why Starbuck never mentioned him, and also why it never seemed to worry the pliot. One day he decided to ask Starbuck. "Well," he answered. "I guess it's because I know you'll always save me."
This sent Apollo to wondering again. He realized that no matter the odds, he always WOULD save Starbuck. All the other pliots loved their star pliot it was true, but he would never give up on Starbuck- ever. That answer only lead to more questions, such as why? And Starbuck had never said why the pliot would never mention him- his best friend.
So why, when he was in danger of dieing, was Apollo never mentioned? Or was there a reason, besides neglect? Finally, Apollo decided to once again confront his friend with his questions. Again, Starbuck shrugged and asked him if next time, Apollo would like to be listed amoung the goodbyes. Apollo answered that yes, yes he would.
And so Starbuck did, the next time.
And, as usaul, Apollo didn't stop until he rescued Starbuck, and both were safely back at the Galatica.
Which is when he started questioning why he was so hell-bent on saving Starbuck again and again... and again. No matter how many times the pliot needed him, Apollo would come.
Why was that? What in him made him risk almost everything time after time for one man? He didn't even do so much for Serina, and he was married to her-albit briefly. It made no sense. Unless he was in love with Starbuck, then it would.

lets face it, Starbuck gets captured/lost/abondoned/ marooned/ crash landing a LOT. So does Apollo for that matter, but Starbuck more so. Seriously people...yet the other always saves them. Aw... Yes, I adore the Starbuck Apollo pairing, so heres my offering to the fandom. Drabbleish fun!
