Synopsis: A little songfic to Kittie's 'Safe' as Alice goes through Wonderland.
In
this darkness
Troubled waters
Lies a flicker
Of hope's
fire
It had seemed like ages since she had seen this place, however, it was much more beautiful back then. Alice stood up warily, eyes taking in the odd view around her as she clutched her knife, one of her sole companions in this dreadful world.
Alice knew it was her fault that Wonderland had decayed into such a land of death, and she couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt. The White Rabbit had been so desperate when he came to her at the asylum, demanding that she return to Wonderland and save them all.
As Alice found out, her emotions and state of mind had a great influential power on Wonderland's well-being. She sighed, feeling overwhelmed for a moment. Such power was placed into her hands, the hands of what doctors called a mere madwoman.
If they only knew what this madwoman was doing, Alice thought with a bitter smirk. As she walked along a barren, dead path, she wondered if she truly did have the power to return beauty to this land of defiled nature. The Cheshire Cat and Rabbit certainly thought so.
She was their savior, brought to bring them out of the Queen's reign of terror and into a new age of goodness and light. She was to be their protector, their heroine, their safety.
Come
to your senses
Wager a risk
I won't let go
Waiting for
this
It's wonderful
Reality
I watch as
This golden bird
flies free
Alice had been risking her neck for what seemed like a lifetime for these tortured creatures. She impatiently tucked some of her long auburn hair behind her ear as she peered into the distance. She could hear something ahead, but she wasn't sure exactly what it was. She shook her head with a frustrated sigh.
No matter what the Queen put in her path, Alice was determined to fight and overcome it. She looked to the cold, fast-paced river beside her as she continued to walk. Everyone seemed to have such faith in her, so why shouldn't she? She was burdened with a responsibility now. There were lives at stake than her own, and she mustn't let them down.
Her senses focused as she got closer to the noise. Her sight became sharper, more vibrant. She could hear much more clearly and with much definition. She could taste as much as smell the thick stench of blood in the air. She was ready for battle.
In
this ash-vault
A rose garden
These walls will never
See me
just to
Save me
Alice's eyes widened as she approached the Queen's garden. She saw the red roses and an impish smile crossed her lips. She could almost hear the card guards painting the white roses red, clumsy in their panic and fear of the Queen. Did she end up killing them? Alice wondered.
She wandered through the garden's maze, feeling frustration well up in her as she passed a familiar-looking area. Would she never get out of this place? She sat down on the cold stone of the fountain, sighing as she did so. She toyed with her blade, trying to think of some way to figure out this treacherous test.
She was quite prepared to give up when she heard a whisper on the breeze. It was a faint voice, seemingly distant and strained. "Save us, Alice," it pleaded. "Please, save us." Alice looked up to the blood red sky and stood slowly.
"They're relying on me," she murmured to herself, emerald eyes flashing with renewed hope. She would not only save what was left of he inhabitants of her twisted Wonderland, but she would save herself as well.
A/N: Every time I listened to this song (Kittie is my favorite band, by the way) I always thought of Alice. Comments? Questions? Anything? Review me!
