The Letter

Chapter VII

Jason sat in his office, working on some paperwork when there was a knock at his door.

"Come in."

He was expecting it to be Max so he didn't even look up from his work but he stopped cold when the person began speaking.

"Jason, do you have a minute to talk?"

He looked up to see Alexis standing right in front of him. He felt anger instantly flare inside of him but he was an expert in schooling his features, so all Alexis saw was a blank stare.

"What do you want, Alexis?"

"I was hoping I could talk to you about Sam?"

Jason narrowed his eyes, leaned back in his chair, and folded his arms over his chest.

"Well, if you're here because you want me to leave her and our child because I'm too dangerous, you can forget it. I'm not going to divorce her and abandon our child because you don't want us together."

"I guess I deserve that."

"Yeah, I guess you do. What are you after, Alexis?"

"I went to see Sam last week to ask her if we could start over and she literally slammed the door in my face."

"Yeah, I know. Sam was pretty upset after you left. I didn't like finding my wife upset like that, by the way. It pissed me off. So you're not exactly the person I want to see right now."

"And neither does Sam. My daughter is having my first grandchild, I deserve to be in their lives. I just don't know how to get through to her. I was hoping you could help me."

Jason stood up and walked around his desk as he approached Alexis. He looked her in the eye.

"Help you? You've got some nerve, Alexis. After everything you've done to Sam, to both Sam and I? Why would I help you?"

"Because Sam is my daughter. I should be in her life."

Jason put his arms over his chest and glared hard at Alexis. She clearly felt his irritation and anger because she blinked rapidly and took a big gulp.

"Alexis, since you've known Sam is your daughter, what have you really done to deserve to be in her life? Think about the first thing you did, you broke up our relationship and I was stupid and scared enough to let you."

"You made your own choice." Alexis retorted but her voice cracked.

"I did it because you played on my guilt and fear. The thought of breaking up with Sam never crossed my mind until you put it there and prodded me into believing we were better off apart because all you see in me is my job. The same way you see Sonny. I hurt Sam more in the months I pushed her away than that bullet ever could because Carly made me see that telling Sam I couldn't love her was reinforcing all the worst things Sam thinks of herself; she sees herself as trash and all you've done since finding out you're her mother is make her think she's trash in your eyes."

Alexis had tears running down her face by the time he was done.

"Is that what Sam really thinks about me?"

"What else is she supposed to think, Alexis, it's literally what you told her. You said she needed an education, a respectable man, and to get some self respect because she was degrading herself by being with me. You have no idea who Sam is because you didn't take the time to get to know her. You just judged her just like you judge me. And until you stop thinking that Sam owes you anything just because you gave birth to her then that's all you are going to be to her."

Alexis tried to fight back to tears but they kept rolling down her face as Jason turned his back on her to signal he was done speaking.

He heard her leave out the door and Jason felt exhausted. He sat back down in his chair and looked at his paperwork. He decided it could wait until tomorrow. He wanted to go see his wife.

Elizabeth was laying on her couch in sweatpants and a ratty old t-shirt. She hadn't even showered today, all she'd done was watch talk show after talk show about who was the baby daddy or who had cheated on who.

The inquest had been yesterday and she had been fired for her invasion of a patient's confidential medical file that she wasn't supposed to access. Technically, she knew what she had done was unethical but she didn't think she deserved to be fired. All she wanted was to know what was going on with Sam and Jason.

Elizabeth put her hand over her stomach, as much as she loved her boy, all she could think of was how it should be Jason's. She should be the one having his child, it was her destiny. Something she'd been mere moments from making a reality the night of the black out when Sam had to go and ruin it.

Sam McCall, now Morgan which should be her name, ruined everything just by showing up in town. It it hadn't been for her, Elizabeth was certain that Jason would've come back to her after he failed with Courtney.

The night of the black out, she was going to finally make love to Jason. She knew that he's wanted her just as badly and for as long as she has wanted him but frustratingly, things always got in their way.

Then this past summer, it seemed like the stars were finally aligning for them to make their dream a reality. Jason had gotten rid of that two bit con woman, she even helped him box up some of her stuff to get her gone for good. He was free and although, she was technically married she and Lucky were drifting further and further apart.

Meanwhile, she and Jason spent a ton of time together, reconnecting with each other.

Elizabeth knew it was just a matter of time which was why she'd stopped taking her birth control at the beginning of the summer so it would be flushed out of her system when she and Jason made love.

She planned on getting pregnant that night by Jason as a child would be something that would link them together for life. Also, she knew Jason, if she were to get pregnant with his child then he would absolutely ask her to marry him because he believed in tradition.

Unfortunately, she'd slept with Lucky once so he wouldn't get suspicious and of course, that is who got her pregnant while Jason got Sam pregnant. While she was wallowing in her self pity, Jason and Sam were probably at their home and he was probably doing something super sweet for his wife, again who should be her, like massaging her feet.

Elizabeth was so lost in her musings that she almost didn't hear the knock at her door.

She wobbled from side to side to gain enough momentum to get off the couch. She waddled to the door and swung it open to reveal the last person she'd expected to see…

Jason, himself.
