A/n This oneshot was inspired by a prompt a guest (Hailey?) left in the review section: "Little idea: Jane and Lisbon bed conversation about having a family will be sooo good".

Kids?

"Jane." She softly says but he doesn't even stir, so she then speaks slightly louder. "Jane."

"Hm."

"Jane wake up." Her instructions are accompanied by her hand shaking his arm faintly.

The man beside her groans loudly, followed by a grumpy, "What time is it?" Honestly, trying to wake him up sometimes is like dealing with a moody adolescent.

"Eight o'clock. We need to get up so that we don't miss our flight."

They're in Chicago. They came for her nephew's christening and although she was a little reluctant at first, because big social events aren't really her thing, they ended up having a ball. "Our flight isn't for four, no, four and a half hours." He retorts and opens one eye to see her sat up in bed glowering at him, he chuckles at this and shuts his eye again, planning to resume in his resting.

"The airport is at least forty minutes away, an hour if we hit traffic, and we have to be there two hours before." Lisbon argues, her arms crossed over her chest. She has always been a stickler for being places on time, probably one of the reasons why the serious crimes unit back at CBI worked so well with her as their leader.

"By my estimations that means we still have ninety minutes to get up and not even you take that long." This earns him a light slap on the bicep making him hiss but it turns into a lax laugh. "Come on Lisbon, just fifteen more minutes." Jane attempts to persuade.

"Fifteen minutes of what?"

"I mean I was going to say resting and cuddling but now you mention it there is something else we could do in fifteen minutes..." He's grinning like the Cheshire Cat, and she isn't sure whether he's serious or if he is just trying to get a rise out of her.

"You should be so lucky." Is her reply, but she does then lie back down and shifts closer to him, and they interlink their fingers lovingly – so he takes this as a victory.

Yesterday was surprisingly good. Lisbon loved spending time with her brothers again and they had such a laugh, it made her want to make sure that next time they don't wait so long to see each other again. Maybe next time Tommy will even be there too. The siblings' history for a long time made family reunions difficult because they just reminded them of their bad past and what, more importantly, who, they lost. It was a long time ago now though, so maybe they're old enough and mature enough to properly move on. It would be nice to say the least.

Stan and Jimmy also appeared to like Patrick which she is pleased about. To get her brothers' approval for her choice of partner made her smile and almost skip around the green space. Jane, like usual, put everything into their latest case to get her brother off the hook for a crime he didn't commit and for that she's thankful – and then there was how he entertained all the kids at the christening party. Seeing him with her baby nephew, his grin from ear to ear, made her feel unusually broody. Could they have a family? Is it too late? "You were really good with those kids yesterday..." She mutters, obviously deep in thought making him open his eyes wondering where she is going with this.

"Just showed them a couple of coin tricks. It was no big deal."

"It meant a great deal to them, and their parents." Gave the adults time to have a drink and chat amongst themselves. "And how you were with baby Paul... really cute."

The brunette watches him mentally mull over her remark, his eyebrows knit together fleetingly before they're raised and he's turning his head to look at her. She raises her own brow to match his expression, a soft smile resting on her lips, hoping that he understands where she could be going with this; he does. "A-are you suggesting what I think you're suggesting?" He questions, his surprise clear, much clearer than his groggy voice dripping with the signs of a deep sleep.

"I'm not saying it's going to happen but, would you be against having more kids?" She asks with bated breath, almost worried about what his response could be.

"Do you want kids?"

"I don't know, I don't even know if I'm still able to, but maybe." She rambles and observes his expression, hoping to get a clue about what he's thinking but no such clue comes. Feeling flustered now she tilts her head to look up at the ceiling, away from him, an embarrassed hue painting her cheeks. "Ignore me, I'm just thinking out loud. It's silly."

"Hey." He gently murmurs making her reluctantly look back at him. "I am not against having kids, far from it. If it happens, it will be a blessing and if not well, that's okay too." The last thing he wants is for there to be pressure on it. There's not much more he would love than to have a child with her, so they could be a little family, but she's right about time not exactly being on their side and he doesn't want her to feel bad if they're unable to conceive. Hence as to why he not only hesitated in his answer but also when it came, he carefully and delicately worked out what to say.

His response appears to go down well when she nods and her sunny expression returns. "I love you." Lisbon adoringly utters with a squeeze of his hand making him produce a large smile as he remembers the flutter in his stomach that he felt when she voiced these three magic words to him for the first time yesterday. Those butterflies haven't gone away since.

It didn't alarm him that it took her longer than him to say it because Jane knew their love was there, but it is nice, more than nice, wonderful, to know that she shares his strong feelings. "I love you too."

And maybe one day they will have a baby of their own, to love together.
