Thinking quickly, I took one giant leap to the right just before the ugly thing charged right past me. The thing was quicker than it was meant to be in the movie. Then again, it was fighting in the middle of an ocean.
That beside the point, I put both fists up and tried to be as fierce looking as I could in an attempt to intimidate it. If I dared to run, his head would enter my back and shoot out my chest before I could turn round, so yeah, either run and die right away, or fight and there'll be a tiny percentage that I will live. I mean, the kaiju is only... eight feet tall... with sharp bone crushing teeth and claws...
Also, should I even be calling it a kaiju? Cause Kaiju does mean "Giant beast" in Japanese. Granted it's two feet bigger than me, but still... Screw it, I'll just be naming him Knifehead for now.
Knifehead began roaring again and charged a second time. I tried dodging again, only I let it get too close. One claw aggressively pushed both arms away from my face as its head lowered and snaked round to the left, showing me it large two inch razor teeth which were preparing to take a chunk of my neck. Panicking, I accidentally stumbled backwards and tripped. And since Knifehead still had ahold of my arms, I ended up bringing him with me. However, I was in for a pleasant surprise. I fell too the ground, and found that the beast was about to fall on me. Thinking on instinct, I covered my head and stuck my feet out in hopes that it would help shield me, fat chance. But instead, I felt a weight heavy enough to force my knee to bend a little... and... that was it? I removed my arms from my face to see the weight of Knifehead being held back by my feet alone? What? Before I could ponder any longer, I realized that the damned thing had gotten over its own surprise and was about to swipe one of its claws at me, probably ripping off half my face if it did. Before it could, I saw no other choice but to pull one leg back and shoot it forwards into its gut. Where I expected it to do nothing more than a small pain, I was amaze- no, shocked, to see Knifehead stumble back a few feet, almost falling over backwards, giving me time to scramble back to my feet and take a look at them, confused
The hell did I even do that?! Smaller or not, that thing should weigh more than a thousand pounds! And I kicked it off like it was another human being? What is going on?
Knifehead didn't seem to be taking it any better. Where it had expected an easy meal, it had just nearly got its butt handed to it, making it near livid. It snarled and screeched and wildly tried swiping at me and stabbing at me, in which I managed to dodge most attacks. Those that hit home were either blocked or missed, though one of it swipes were close enough to rip through a small part of the tshirt that I was wearing, which for whatever reason happened to be a blue V-neck. Finally, the attacks ceased when it slammed the top of its head into the side of me, knocking the wind out of my gut. However, I held onto its head as best I could, refusing to be thrown off to the side. Honestly, I had no clue what I was doing, but it became apparent that knifehead was not appreciating me holding onto part of its face. It thrashed around wildly as it ran in one direction before sharply turning and struggling again in order to throw me off. I on the other hand held on for dear life! My arms barely stretched around the bastards head, which made that much harder to hold on as my legs dangled uselessly underneath. From there, I took another risk with this new found strength as I positioned one leg onto one of Knifeheads limbs and pushed my body upwards as it continued to thrash me about as best it could. Then, I tried to use my weight against it and pulled down as gravity took ahold of me and I ended up slamming Knifeheads face into the ground chin first. The attack forced me to let go and I rolled over backwards, getting up onto my feet almost at once. I didn't have a second of respite as I got myself to duck in time as a claw ran through the air where my face originally was. I focused on my target and delivered an uppercut into its face since it was bent down to my level which did next to nothing to it that time. Since I was paying more attention to its upper half, I failed to notice its tail swing at me until my feet went flying into the air and I landed onto my back once again. Raising my head, Knifehead brought a claw over its head and swung down. I barely rolled out of the way as the oversized hand slammed into the ground and raked across the floor leaving large claw marks. I got up and leaped towards Knifehead, grabbing onto the side of his head and sent both feet into his chest, doing nothing more than make him stumble a second time. Both his left claws, the large and smaller one, latched onto my side and tore me off before using its big knife-like appendage to slice me. Using my spare hand, I punched it as best I could in its face before the built in weapon could slice me in half. Luckily, I managed to do just that, but managing to get a good shot at its eye on accident. I may not have been complaining about it but my enemy had plenty to say with its roars of pain and fury as its head snapped to the left away from me. I quickly found myself being thrown away before landing on my back painfully.
Okay, think. This thing HAS to have some sort of weakness. How did it die in the film again? Oh, yeah... well, unless there happens to be some sort of giant plasma cannon nearby, I'm afraid I've got no choice but to improvise.
Quickly, an idea came to mind. A bit of a stupid one, but then again, faced with an eight foot monster from a movie, it'd be useful to try anything at this point.
This time, I tried my luck at going on the offense and ran right at the beast. If what I had in mind was going to work, I needed to get really close. Five foot away, and Knifehead attacked, trying to bring both hands down on me. I only very barely made it underneath before they hit where my head would have been. Now that I was right underneath the Kaiju, without breaking my run, I jumped as high as I could the second I was underneath its head and delivered the most powerful punch I could muster into its neck. I was relieved to find that my opponent staggered back roaring and gagging before collapsing onto its arms looking like it was trying to cough up something. Well, at least I knew where to hit now. Looks like it's time for phase two.
While Knifehead remained distracted with its stinging pain, it failed to see me running up to it until I jumped onto its back. Before it could easily shake me off, I collapsed forwards and swung my arms around its thick leathery neck, locking my hands together and squeezed as hard I could. As I did, Knifehead just became that more furious and roared as it did its best to shake me off like a wild dog. The longer I held on, the more I doubted that I was doing any actual damage to it other than pissing it off. It was starting to get more and more desperate the longer I squeezed my arms of at which point were beginning to sting. My muscles were aching fiercely. But it was either me or him at this point, so I did what I could to ignore the burning pain and kept trying to crush the windpipe. In half a minute, the monster started to become more desperate to get me off as it resorted to trying to slam and crush me into the ground on which I had to shift my body little to the side each time without letting go. In a full minute, I started to believe my tactic was actually working. Its movements started to slow as it collapsed to the ground on all fours, or rather on all sixes what with its two miniature arms, before falling onto the floor altogether where it was now whining as though an injured dog while its movements became slower and slower until they stopped altogether, save for a twitch or two. After it had stopped moving altogether, I just continued to hold on for another minute. Just in case. I remember how smart this thing was in the movie so there was no way I was going to chance it.
When I was absolutely certain that the thing was dead, I very slowly, very carefully, stepped off while keeping an eye on it while trying to ignore the small amount of saliva dripping from its open mouth revealing well over twenty teeth. When I was a fair enough distance, the creature dissolved into black fog and seeped into the ground below, proving to me that it really was dead.
Turning back round, Kèxīng had decided to return and stood in front of me, wearing an impressed look. I however was ready to demand an answer or two.
"What was that"?
She tilted her head to the side in confusion.
"You should know the answer better than I... You were the one who just faced it"...
"No, not the Kaiju. I mean that strength back there when I was fighting it! No human is powerful enough to kill an eight foot creature like that. Explain".
"You mean to tell me you don't know the answer, even when it's obvious? Seems you lack your inner vision... or even confidence"...
"I'm waiting". I asked impatiently.
"Very well, I shall explain... Your friends entered your mind while leaving behind their own bodies, casting themselves into the world of mystery... You on the other hand, did not... You still remain in your own body, therefore your soul remains linked to your mind... This allows you to remain in control, allowing you to become stronger and faster... The more powerful the link, the more powerful you are"...
Okay, I suppose that makes sense. So for example if this was say, Pos mind, then he would be stronger instead of me. Right. Got it.
"So, now what"?
A wave of the Mèngyǎn's arm and four more orbs grew until each were a one foot radius. I instantly understood what she was getting at.
"Great".
I looked into each orb, seeing the remaining four warriors. Po, Monkey, Viper and... wait, where was Shifu?
"Uh, might want to do a head count on your prisoners sparkly eyes".
I stepped to the side, allowing Kèxīng to see the fourth orb for herself. There was no mistake, Shifu wasn't anywhere in sight.
"Hmmm... Curious"... I heard her mutter angrily.
"What's wrong? Things not going the way you planned"? I mocked with a smile, though I was just as surprised as she was at this. "Do you know how he did it"?
"I have a theory... But this is nothing more than a setback... While one escapes, taking with him his cowardice, he leaves his successors to suffer in his place"...
Surely the Mèngyǎn saw more to Shifu than just that? Well, either way, if I remembered correctly, Shifu was the one originally holding the dream stone before getting dragged into my head along with everyone else... Maybe the demon hadn't taken care of every single detail after all.
A quick thud sounded behind me and I looked to see myself facing the door yet again. I would be quickly viewing the remaining three creatures Kèxīng had in store for my friends. I knew what one was, but the others, I had no idea. Yet.
...
This was a bit of a fun chapter to do I must admit. Hard, but fun. Anyway, seems things aren't going according to plan for our demon friend. And what is going to pour out through the doorway next? You'll find out soon. Cheerio!
