I don't own DxD or K Project, AN is at the end this time.

The next thing he saw upon waking up was what appeared to be a hospital. He was still feeling the exhaustion of over-extending his aura while being so wounded. If he wasn't so damn uncomfortable he would have gone right back to sleep. Predictably both of his arms and one of his legs were in splints with his other leg requiring a full-on cast. He sighed in annoyance as the beep from the heart rate monitor permeated through his room. It was odd that he had an entire room to himself, he doubted anyone would recognize him with his body being the current age that it was.

Across the room, broad daylight invaded through the window that spanned across one of the walls. It was somewhere around noon to 2 PM if he had to guess. Deciding to observe more of the room, one more detail stuck out to him. The equipment used to monitor his vitals looked older, it wasn't ancient but it was definitely older than what he was used to seeing. Oh well, he would probably figure it out later he thought to himself before deciding to try and catch more sleep.

Unfortunately for him, it was at that moment that a nurse came in to check on him.

"Oh, you're awake, how are you feeling?" The nurse asked kindly after quickly getting over her shock, she was sure the child should have been out for at least 2 more days...

Mikoto, a little miffed at not getting to continue his sleep, released a deep, tired, sigh in response.

"Yeah, that sounds about right. You went through a lot, you must be super strong!" She said empathetically, her voice picking up a tone one would use on a child in an attempt to try to liven up the mood. She followed through her check-up making sure he was healing properly, hoping the child would respond. He didn't.

"Did you fall off a tree?"

"Did you fall down the stairs?"

"Were you in a car accident?"

She tried to ask those among many others to try and get him to talk. Mikoto looked towards the window in response to her attempts to make conversation. He really wasn't in the mood to talk. He probably had to deal with law enforcement sometime down the line anyway so he might as well prepare himself to talk with those assholes in Scepter 4.

"Hehe… could you at least tell me your name?" The nurse asked nervously as an awkward silence began to dominate the hospital room as she moved on from checking on his state of health to checking on the readings of the medical equipment and making sure everything was working as it should be.

'Just what did this kid go through..?' The nurse thought to herself. Sure she wasn't used to dealing with too many kids but she could at least break the ice. Then again this was a special case with specific orders from upstairs. From what she was able to pick up, the boy's injuries were from some incident at a nearby park, quite a few people died but he miraculously survived. But something didn't quite match up, from what she was able to see most of the victims sustained wounds that would have killed them pretty much instantly, not only did this boy have the same teir of injuries but he broke that trend by making a stupidly fast recovery too. Law enforcement was also pretty lax given how many people died, she expected them to at least keep tabs on the boy given what happened. Just what the hell was going on here?

She let her mind wander as she checked off a piece of paper on a checklist, marking down any abnormalities with the crimsoned-haired child. While there wasn't anything that wouldn't heal on the outside, that didn't mean the child wasn't broken on the inside by what he experienced. She soon finished her check-up and went to report her findings but found herself stopping as she opened the door.

"Mikoto" the boy said as he made eye contact with her.

It took her a second to realize that he had just given out his name before she gave him an enthusiastic smile.

"Well, it's nice to meet you Mikoto-san!"

Too sweet…the nurse was too sweet for his liking. He got that it was their job to make sure the patient was comfortable sure, but still, this was a bit too much for him. Just thinking about having to juggle her before having to deal with Scepter 4 made him want to take a nice looong drag from a cigar.

It was then that the reality of his situation hit him. There was no way he was getting his hands on any cigars when he still had the body of a child…

"Shit…that's probably why that nurse was babying me too…" he said in silence before looking out the window once more. This is gonna suck…

It had been two days since Mikoto had woken up and she was not making that much progress in getting him to open up. It was a little weird because after a while she was able to deduce he wasn't nervous around her so she could safely cross off that he was a shy kid. She also thought that maybe he just wasn't used to talking to new people but even then most kids would have talked to their nurse by now.

In any case, today had an interesting development, he was due for a visitor, an elderly woman by the name of Wakako Okada. Even more interesting is that she was the only other survivor of the incident that Mikoto was found in. What made this weird was that she was able to make direct contact with the boy before law enforcement even so much as looked at him. Something else was definitely going on here.

Mikoto found himself waking up late in the morning around 11:30. He was starting to hate the hospital bed he was set up on as he felt sore from lying down for so long. The idea of ripping off his IV injection and getting up for a stretch had just crossed his mind when the door to his room opened.

The doctor responsible for him was at the doorway. He didn't see him much during his stay at the hospital, thanks to his freakish recovery speed. Something he was willing to bet was a new perk of his enhanced aura. It would seem that he also had a visitor, which would have been weird if it wasn't the elderly lady he saved. What was she doing here?

"That will be enough, thank you." She told the doctor, who did a slight respectful bow before leaving the two alone in the room. As far as he knew she wasn't related to him in the slightest and the fact that the doctor just left the two of them alone in the room was starting to weird him out again.

He took a good look at her, she wore a burgundy dress shirt paired with a skirt that stopped just shy of her knees. She paired them with stockings and some nice cone heels, pulling it all together with a coat. On top of that, the clothing looked like it belonged on the higher end of the price spectrum.

"I must thank you." She said as she moved towards the window taking a look at the scenery. It seemed she wasn't too used to being indebted to someone.

"For what? The bitch would have come after me anyway, I was just trying to be ahead of the curve." the boy responded.

"You would have been fine either way…so regardless I thank you for going out of your way." The elderly woman said, finally locking eyes with the boy.

Mikoto said nothing at first before taking the time to study the old woman in front of him.

"I take it you're the reason why Scepter 4 hasn't busted down my door?" Mikoto asked.

"Scepter 4..?" She said showing confusion at the term. She had quite the pull with law enforcement so she would know if such a task force existed.

"Those assholes in blue?" He tried again to try and ring a bell for his guest. That was odd, they were usually first on the case with aura-related attacks. Her continued confusion only made him even warier of her.

Again the woman shook her head confirming she knew nothing of Scepter 4.

"Ever heard of HOMRA?" He tried again, sure HOMRA wasn't that big or notorious of a gang but it should still stand out in the eye of the public due to the incidents that it was involved in. Once again the woman shook her head in the negative.

He tried this twice more, asking her if she knew of Shizume town, and then the Kagutsu crater incident. When she denied knowing of either, the temperature of the room began to rise in slow increments. Did this old hag think she could mess with him?

"Calm down, I'm sure we can figure this out." She said with an air of authority as she took a seat on the chair to the left of his bed against the wall. Since she knew he controlled flames, she knew it wouldn't be a good idea if she let his emotions control him so she took control of the conversation. He took a deep breath before calming down, the room's temperature following his change in mood.

"Good, first of all, why don't you start by explaining those terms to me? I can't exactly help you if I don't know what you're looking for." She said salvaging the si

Mikoto only sighed in frustration as he knew that he would also have to explain everything he knew surrounding the kings as well.

"Interesting, you're not a mage, but you don't gear either…" if the old lady was surprised by any of what he told her she did a damn good job of hiding it.

"Heh you're taking this pretty well, I guess they'll have to throw us both in the looney bin." He said in response to her rambling.

"You were able to take out a stray devil in one shot, I'd have to be a fool to ignore what you just told me." She said making eye contact with him once more.

"'Stray devil'? You know what that thing was?" He asks to which she nodded.

"Attacks from them aren't too common as they are often put down on sight but that doesn't mean a few won't slip through the cracks" She responded.

"Put down by who?" He asked, wondering who would be crazy enough to fight those things. He doubted that the clans were around given how much he had to explain to the woman in front of him.

This time it was Wakako's turn to sigh as she gave him a very, VERY abridged history of the angels, fallen angels, and devils.

Mikoto couldn't hold it back, he just had to let out a laugh at what he was being told. God had died? The angels and devils had crippled each other in one giant war? It was all too good to be true.

Wakako on the other hand was having a hard time getting over the child's laugh. After seeing just how easily he was able to kill a stray devil, who wouldn't be unnerved when the child's only response to learning that God had died was to laugh...

"How do you know this?" Mikoto asked. He highly doubted he was being lied to but it never hurt to ask for a source.

"A mutual benefactor…It's not my place to say who he is at the moment but you will probably be meeting him soon, after all, it's not every day a child is able to trivialize killing a stray devil and after getting to know you, you two will probably get along…" She said that last bit with a little bit more venom than he meant to. Azazel always did have a penchant for being experimental and it ended up often costing them more than it was worth.

"Needless to say… for obvious reasons most people don't know about what I have told you so I trust you will stay tight-lipped about what we have conversed about?" She asked in a more serious tone.

"Fair enough…" Mikoto said. He was hoping to learn more about the man she mentioned but if he was going to meet him anyway it was probably going to be worth his time. He let loose a stretch or at least the best he could do with all the splints he had on, while also letting out a yawn. Looking out his window he saw it was now late afternoon as the sun was just beginning to set. They had been talking for quite some time.

"I'll reach out to my contacts to see if I can find out anything about HOMRA." The old woman said before getting up and preparing to leave. To which Mikoto simply nodded.

"I'm going to need a name, I can't just tell them I'm doing this for a crimson-haired boy.." She responded as her hand grasped the door handle.

"It's customary to give your own name before asking for someone else's," Mikoto responded, still looking out the window.

"Okada…Wakako Okada." She responded after some time.

"Mikoto Suoh.." he said, making eye contact with her for the final time that day.

"Pleasure meeting you." She said before she walked out of the door.

'Seems like things are going to be a lot more interesting' He thought before dozing off.

AN: Mikoto got more of a grasp of the world he is in, I slightly feel bad for not introducing any DxD characters just yet but that will probably happen next chapter. I appreciate any feedback yall got.
