Both he and Keller turned to see Draco Malfoy heading towards them. Harrison withheld a sneer but his teacher was not so cordial. To interrupt a master and student was beyond bad etiquette. One would think the Heir of Malfoy would know better.
Harrison glared at the approaching blond boy. He took a measured step closer to his teacher. A hand was on his wand ready to draw in case the boy attacked him.
Discreetly however Keller touched his shoulder slightly. Harrison glanced up at the man and the other shook his head. The message was clear. Do not attack.
The Malfoy Heir snapped again as he grabbed at Harrison's arm, "Hey you shouldn't be bothering the adults. Come with me the other children are over here. Leave the adults to their stuff."
Harrison pulled his arm free and growled, "I will not. Master Keller is who I am apprenticed to."
There was a brief scrunch of the other's nose as he asked, "But aren't you a kid like me? Father says apprenticeships have to wait until I'm at Hogwarts. Most masters refuse to take anyone without their first tests."
Harrison said proudly, "I am in school. I am a proud student of Nightingale and have passed my all the tests to become an official student. Only the best of the best make it this far."
Malfoy said his voice rising in pitch, "I'm the best of the best. My family has been pureblooded for generations!"
It was Keller who replied this time, "Young Malfoy while your family is allies to the Technomage Masters you are not infallible. Not a single one of your family has ever made it into Nightingale. Harrison here however is a Potter the second of his family thought the first was a branch member. Blood supremacy isn't key there like it is here."
"But..."
The other boy didn't get any further as Lord Malfoy appeared. Mercury eyes flickered over to the spacial ring on his finger. With it came surprise before his face became a blank slate.
The younger Malfoy puffed up and demanded, "Father I want to go to school now!"
Lord Malfoy blinked slowly before he said, "Draco you cannot go to Hogwarts until you are 11."
"But I want to go to school now," whined the boy.
Lord Malfoy chided immediately, "Do not whine, Draco. It is unbecoming."
Keller said hiding a smirk, "Unlike Hogwarts, Nightingale only takes in certain students. As Harrison said only the best of the best are allowed in. Blood status doesn't matter and more often than not we accept creatures that other schools wouldn't allow."
"I'd make the requirements even without creature inheritance," snapped the boy.
Keller shook his head, "No, no you wouldn't. At least not yet. Maybe when you turn 11 but right now you wouldn't meet the power requirements of someone without creature blood."
Draco opened his mouth to snap back but Lord Malfoy stopped him, "Draco enough. Master Keller here is also the Deputy Headmaster. Thank you for your time Master Keller. I will ensure my son does not bother you again."
Harrison's teacher accepted the words from Lord Malfoy. Once the two Malfoys had moved out of earshot he said, "You handled that well but try to avoid making enemies out of that family. They will make good allies in what is to come."
Harrison glanced at his teacher confused. Keller refused to elaborate on what he meant by that. His eyes were far off as if seeing something only he could see.
The young child didn't push his master. He kept close to Keller and ignoring the adults who eyed him with interest. They were curious about his age and position as an apprentice. Staying close to his master afforded him the protection that he normally would not have gotten.
Towards midnight they finally called it a quits. By this time Harrison was barely able to keep his eyes open. Keller flooed with him and Alex who had returned to their side.
Their father was waiting for them in the floo room. Upon seeing their exhausted faces they were immediately sent off to bed. It would be some time before Harrison learned about the words exchanged that night. Words that would change the course of their destinies forever.
...
Christmas Day came and went. Both Harrison and Alex were gifted necklaces. He could feel the magic on the necklaces. Protective and warding them against the dangers of their world. It had seemed that their father was taking measures to protect both of them after what was revealed.
In the remaining days of his vacation he noticed a growing tension between his parents. Both his mother and father seemed to disagree on the necklaces. Harrison wasn't sure why his mother thought they weren't necessary. Especially after his father showed the proof of why.
Their mother refused to beleive what was right in front of her. Harrison didn't understand why. One would think that using potions and spells on a child would break any trust you had in them. Then again some liked to refuse to see what was right in front of them.
Mother did not go with them when it was time for Harrison to return to Nightingale. That hurt especially given that he would not see them again until Demember of the following year. Alex had not wanted to let him go but eventually they said their goodbyes.
Harrison had met his friends on the train. They exchanged greetings and stories as the train pulled from the station. Returning to Nightingale was something of a relief to many. One of the many was the young Potter.
