Fish Appreciation

Notes: If any of you shop at American Eagle, you've probably seen the fish print bag in the girls' section. I immediately thought of Kaito when I saw it. :) As always, Magic Kaito does not belong to me.

--------

"Ne, Kaito, what do you think of my new bag?"

Kaito turned to face his best friend and searched her person for about two seconds before seeing the object she was asking him to look at – and proceeded to squeal like a girl.

The wretched satchel was spotted with pink and brown fish.

But Aoko's smile held no malice at all, and as a master of the poker face, Kaito could tell this easily. "Aoko, that's a very nice bag you have there. But before we go out, can you switch to that other one?"

She blinked. "What other one?"

"That…. OTHER one that you have," Kaito squeaked, eyes as wide as saucers while keeping as far a distance as he could from the tote bag.

"Oohhhh, okay," she smiled and hustled back into her room, and Kaito thought he was safe. That is, until she reemerged from her chambers with the exact same bag, only the main color scheme with this one was brown and yellow. "It matches with my outfit more, right?" And for effect, she twirled prettily, her chocolate-colored skirt fluttering around her.

The thief gulped. "Uh… sure."

"I just bought this blouse last week. Isn't it cute?" She inquired happily as she closed the door and they began their walk to the train station.

Truth be told, Kaito didn't exactly pay attention to Aoko's clothes. But now that she mentioned it… he looked at her shirt and shrieked.

It hadn't been visible upon first inspection, but pale little yellow fishies adorned the blouse. Again Aoko smiled. Maybe she was faking after all. If that was the case, she had suddenly become very good at hiding her emotions… "It's Fish Appreciation Day, Kaito, didn't you know?"

His vision began to blur, and the next moment he was immersed in darkness.

---

"Kaito? Kaito? Hey, are you up?"

The thief's eyes slowly opened to the sound of Aoko's voice outside his door. These surroundings… he was in his room. It was all a dream.

Relief spread through his body, originating at the grin on his face and spreading to his toes as he got out of bed to open the door. "Hey, Aoko. You know I just had the weirdest dream that –" His eyes fell upon the sack at her side and he screeched shrilly before promptly blacking out.

While he slumbered, he dreamt of happier days free of pesky fishies.

End.
