"Uh, what a day! Sister Dominick just had to give me that 40 minute lecture on how I should be more like London. What does she see in her? And of course Corrie and Mary Margaret just have to always treat London like she is the queen of the world. Okay, London may be the queen of the Tipton, but that does not mean...wait a second! The Tipton practically is my whole world! That means London is the queen of my world! Great. Wonderful. Spectacular."

Maddie Fitzpatrick was not having the best day. Her 7 hours at school were full of London (who is probably the most annoying person in the world) and teachers who just don't understand her. After school, she went home to change into her uniform for the Tipton. Maddie spent just enough time there to hear the end of her parents' heated argument. Then it was back to her job as candy counter girl. Yay her

Two hours later, Maddie was still at the counter. Six times London had come over to "ask Maddie's opinion on her new shoes."

"Yeah, sure she wants my opinion," thought Maddie bitterly. "She just wants to rub those sandals in my face!"

Just at that moment she saw none other than Zack Martin, with a slight frown on his face, walk out of the game room. All of a sudden his face lit up, and he headed toward the candy counter.

"Oh great, here comes Zack the major flirt. He really just needs to get the hint."

Maddie turned around and pretended to be very busy with something behind her.

"Hey sweet thaaaang!"

Maddie sighed, plastered on a fake smile, and turned around.

"What can I do for you, Zack?" Her voice was must higher than usual.

Zack just stared at her like he was thinking hard about something. She knew this look well because she had seen it often on Cody, but to see it on Zack was rather frightening.

"I wanted to tell you something," he said at last.

"What?"

"What's brown and sticky?"

"Zack, I don't-"

"A stick."

Maddie gawked at him for a moment then she heard a giggle. It took her a moment to realize it was her own. The joke was so stupid that she couldn't help but smile. Zack looked pleased with himself.

"Zack, that joke was so..."

"I know, but at least I got a real smile out of you."

And with that, Zack ran up to the elevator, leaving Maddie all alone again. Yet this time, there was something different about her. She realized that as long as she had a great friend like Zack, life really isn't that bad.
