Everyone gathered inside for the coronation. Brooklyn since he was guardian stood next to the priest who had the crown and the signature items Elsa would hold when he made the speech. Brooklyn swallowed again while waiting for Elsa, shuffling his feet.
"Princess Elsa, come forth," the priest said, beckoning Elsa who was at the entrance. Brooklyn stared again, heart fluttering once more. Elsa wore a regal Queen's dress, her face solemn in expression when stepping forward down the aisle. A choir sang a regal tune until Elsa reached the end. Brooklyn gulped at how close they were now. Elsa only took one look at him before looking away. Anna stood to the other side. She had waved to Hans in the crowd.
The Priest took Elsa's new crown, placing it on her head after she bowed. Brooklyn smiled at the fact that Elsa was now a Queen. Elsa reached for the royal items with her gloved hands until the Priest cleared his throat. "Your majesty; the gloves," he whispered. Brook tilted his head again, still curious about the whole glove situation. Elsa shakily took them off then took hold of the items, turning around, taking the position of Queen for the potrait. The Priest spoke some words in a language Brooklyn couldn't make out at first until he ended with "Queen Elsa of Arendelle!"
"Queen Elsa of Arendelle!" The crowd repeated while Brook and Anna kept silent, but were both happy for her.
….
After the coronation there was a big party held. Brooklyn stood next to Anna near the entrance; watching everybody dance. Anna shifted a little. "Nervous?" Brooklyn asked. "No, I'm excited, I haven't seen people in so long," she said.
Brooklyn took her hand. "You'll do great, I'll be next to you," he said. Anna smiled at him when the dancing finished.
"Queen Elsa of Arendelle!" The announcer said, Elsa coming to stand in her spot. Brooklyn felt his nerves again. Why must he still be nervous around her?
"And Princess Anna and Guardian Brooklyn of Arendelle!" Brooklyn guided Anna out who almost didn't venture out, tugging her arm encouragingly. She allowed Brooklyn to bring her into the open. Brooklyn swallowed at the people before them but kept his nerves in, moving Anna to her sister.
"This is your chance," he whispered. Anna protested but too late as she stood next to Elsa now awkwardly. Brook stood with Anna, eyes kept downward, remaining silent.
The party carried on normally while the royals observed them. Brooklyn swished his tail in discomfort and awkwardness. Elsa's eyes looked at them. "Hi." She greeted. Brooklyn didn't reply but Anna did. "Oh, hi… hi me? Yeah. Hi." She stuttered. Elsa saw Brooklyn looking a bit sad and awkward. She cleared her throat.
"Brook?" She asked. Brooklyn cringed but turned to see her violet eyes staring into his own. He gulped. "Er… hi…" Brooklyn said, wishing to hide right now. It felt, weird to have Elsa greet him in a friendly manner after the fiasco those years ago which he didn't forget. He attempted a smile but then it fell.
"S-sorry I'm not more sociable, your majesty…" he apologized. Elsa shook her head. "No need for your apology since we're friends." She looked out at the crowd. "So this is what a party looks like." Brooklyn couldn't help the smile coming back. He never been to many parties. This was a huge thing to happen to hum.
Anna shifted again. "It's warmer than I thought," she commented. Brook nodded. "Y-yeah. Pleasant." Elsa smelled the air. "And what is that smell?" The two sisters smelled together. "Chocolate!" They giggled after that, making Brooklyn smile further, liking to see them acting sisterly just for a moment.
But then a voice spoke from a man named Kai. "Your majesties and guardian; the Duke of Weaseltown…" he started. Brooklyn raised his brow at the skinny old man who glared at Kai. "Weselton!" He snapped, before recomposing himself. "Duke of Weselton, highnesses and… ahem… special one," he said, eyeing Brooklyn with mistrust.
Brooklyn frowned. He remembered meeting this guy with Agnarr and Iduna. The duke didn't take kindly to his appearance until Agnarr explained that Brooklyn was a guardian to the princesses.
"Duke," Brooklyn replied stiffly. The Duke gazed at him coldy before smiling back at the Princess and Queen. "As your close partner in trade it seems only fitting that I offer you your first dance as Queen." He then did some ridiculous dance moves, then bowed, his hair wig nearly slipping off. Brook gave a smirk while his two girls quietly snickered as the Duke righted himself.
Elsa shook her head. "Oh, no thank you. I don't dance," she persisted. The duke gave a sound of disappointment. "But my sister does," she then offered. Brook blinked at this, seeing Anna getting pulled into the crowd to dance. He winced when watching the Duke dancing rather awkwardly and treading on Anna's heels. He edged closer to Elsa.
"Elsa? Have you ever really tried to?" He asked nervously. Brooklyn half expected her to snap at him to go away but she didn't. She gave him a sad look then turned away. "My parents never showed me." She murmured. "They mostly focused on…" she cut off, coughing softly. Brooklyn wondered why Elsa broke off but didn't nag her as Anna came back, limping.
Brooklyn gave her a bit of a grin. "So, how was your 'Prince Charming'?" He asked in a joking manner. Anna frowned while Elsa laughed. "He was spritely," she said, flinching, rubbing her feet. "Are you ok?" Her sister asked. Anna brushed her hair away. "I've never been better. This is so nice!" The red gargoyle nodded. "I guess big event parties like this are more fun than I give them credit for."
"I wish it could be like this all the time," Anna said, still smiling. Elsa however frowned. "Me too. But it can't."
The red gargoyle felt disappointment and surprise. "But-but, Elsa…" he tried. Elsa shook her head. Anna tried too. "Why not?"
"It just can't!" Elsa stated firmly. Brooklyn flinched again from her harsh tone, feeling himself back away. Anna had left when he did. Elsa didn't go after her sister but saw how upset her guardian was. She received a flashback from those years ago, her heart feeling heavy now from how bitter she might have been to Brooklyn. Brooklyn right now was going to find a spot for himself to be alone, until he felt a gloved hand on his shoulder.
He jumped, turning to be face to face with Elsa. Brook's nerves felt tingly again as her violet eyes gazed into his. Brooklyn tried pulling free.
"Elsa. I-I understand if you can't be close to me or Anna. Just leave me be now." He said sadly.
"No, Brooklyn. Please, I apologize for my attitude and avoiding of you. You must understand I missed you every day." Elsa said softly. Brooklyn gave her a look of surprise but felt his happiness begin to return, just a little, wiping his eyes that were watering. Elsa cupped his cheek in her hand.
Brooklyn's spark connecting his soul with Elsa began to grow, making his saddened heart overflow with his love. He too gently caressed Elsa's cheek, Elsa closing her eyes, their foreheads touching as well. This was the closest he had ever been able to get to her. And now to be able to hold Elsa once more in his arms, it seemed too good to be true.
After a bit they opened their eyes again. "Elsa? I would like to show you how to dance, if-if you want," he stuttered. Elsa blushed from Brooklyn's offer. "I think… I'd like it," she then replied. Brooklyn then had himself take Elsa's hand and put his right hand around her waist. Elsa gasped a bit from the feeling, smiling at her guardian, and Brooklyn led her to dance with the waltz playing, unaware of Anna and Hans spending time together elsewhere.
….
And so the rest of the evening fared quite well for the couple, mostly dancing in the ballroom. Brooklyn helped Elsa through the steps and she had been able to follow them fine.
I wish this night would never end, Brooklyn thought, sighing silently in bliss from holding the one he loved in his arms and dancing with her. They danced quite a lot. This was his dream coming true for finding his true love, if she would accept him like that. But Brooklyn still had yet to discover the truth about her hiding from them.
The music then ended; Elsa and Brooklyn finished their dance. Elsa hugged Brooklyn. "Thank you," she said quietly. Brooklyn hugged her back, stroking her hair. "It's what friends do," he stated, not wanting to quickly get into a relationship yet in case it didn't work out again. Suddenly Anna came, dragging someone with her that appeared to be Prince Hans. Brook nudged Elsa who turned around.
"Brook! Elsa! Uh Queen! Me again, uh. May I introduce Prince Hans of the Southern Isles!"
Hans bowed. "A pleasure to see you again, Brooklyn. And your Majesty, such an honor."
Anna and Hans then hugged each other, a rather sudden motion in Brooklyn's eyes. What had happened?
"We would like… the blessing… of… our marriage!" Anna squealed. Brooklyn's mouth dropped. Say WHAT?! Elsa reacted like him. "M-marriage?!" She exclaimed.
"Yes!"
Brooklyn shook his head. "Whoa, hold it. Back up please? We're confused. Did you say something about getting married?!" He demanded at Anna. Sure he supported her finding a love interest but mating so suddenly, and to a guy she barely knows? That seemed ridiculous!
Anna began talking fast. "Well, we haven't planned out the details ourselves, we'll need a few days to plan the ceremony. Of course we'll have soup roast and ice cream. Oh, will we live here?" She asked Hans. Hans smiled. "Absolutely!" Brooklyn felt nervous now. "Anna, wait a moment…" she interrupted.
"Brooklyn, would you be the ring bearer? It would make us happy!" She then asked out of nowhere. This made Brooklyn faint. It couldn't happen so soon. He had his share of believing that one female he found was his but all that left him was disappointment. Brook couldn't let Anna go down his path.
"Anna, please I don't think—."
"I understand you're nervous. And Hans, we can invite all 12 of your brothers to stay with us!" Elsa finally had enough, coming to both hers and Brooklyn's rescue.
"Slow down! No one's brothers are staying here, no one's getting married," she then claimed. Brooklyn breathed a sigh, but Anna's face fell. "What?" She asked. Elsa gestured. "May I talk to you please? Alone?"
Anna shook her head. "No. Whatever you got to say you can say to both of us," she argued. Brooklyn dreaded another argument would come, ears lowered. Elsa took a breath. "Fine. You can't marry a man you just met," she then said sternly. Her sister hugged Hans. "You can if it's true love!"
Brooklyn reached out to her. "Anna, I think Elsa is right. I don't know Hans well enough either. You need to wait." But then it got worse when Elsa said the words that would break their temporary bond.
"Anna, what do you know about true love?" She asked. Brooklyn's face fell, his heart breaking. Anna narrowed her eyes. "More than you! All you know is how to shut people out!"
Oh no, Brook thought, trembling as he watched his close friend look angry. He took her gloved hand but she pulled it away. "You asked for my blessing but my answer is no. The party is over. Close the gates!" She ordered Kai. Kai nodded. "Yes, your highness."
Elsa began walking to her room again. Brooklyn never felt this heartbroken since Agnarr and Iduna passed. Just as they were becoming friends again, they were splitting once more.
Anna grabbed Elsa's hand, accidentally taking her glove off. "Elsa, no wait!" Elsa gasped. "Give me my glove!"
Brooklyn didn't know what to do, looking back and forth, aware of the people watching. "Girls…" he pleaded.
"Please! Me and Brooklyn can't live like this anymore!" Anna begged. Elsa just remained stoic. "Then leave. Take him with you, too." She snapped, eyeing Brooklyn with heartbreak in them. Brooklyn's eyes watered. She didn't mean it, right?
Anna sniffled. "What did we ever do to you?!"
Elsa ignored them. "Enough, Anna!" She mumbled. Brooklyn couldn't talk, too upset to form any words, letting Anna do it. He didn't want to leave the castle. Where would he go?
"No! Why? Why do you shut us out! Why do you shut the world out? What are you so afraid of?!"
That caused Elsa to spazz out. Her eyes glared further, waving her hand. "I SAID ENOUGH!" Her hand ended up shooting ice, freaking ice, onto the floor, creating a barrier of icicles between Elsa, Brooklyn and Anna. Brook jumped back, eyes wide in shock. Elsa, but… how? He thought in disbelief, shaking.
Elsa was mortified from her actions and revealing her abilities, everyone there murmuring and giving her cold looks. The duke growled. "Sorcery! I knew there was something devious going on here!" He muttered under his breath at his two men. Brooklyn kept staring at Elsa, who looked back into his own eyes in sorrow.
"Elsa…" Anna said softly. The Queen then turned and ran out the door.
"No, wait!" Brooklyn shouted, reaching out with his hand, climbing over the ice, ignoring the icicles scratching his hand palms, running out the door, too.
Elsa was already on the move after accidentally showing more of her powers. When Brooklyn exited too, he heard them shouting in fear.
I have to protect Elsa! Brook thought in determination. He took her arm when she backed away. "Elsa, calm down. We can work this out!" He begged. Elsa shook her head. "No, get away!" Ice shot from her hand again, knocking Brooklyn off his feet, crying out from the ice burning the skin on his hand, hitting the ground. The Duke showed at that moment. "There she is! She hurt her Guardian! Get her!"
"Please, just stay away from me! Stay away!" Snow was sent their way from Elsa, blowing the Duke down too. Brooklyn shook his head, seeing his hand covered in some of the ice, pulling it off, ignoring the pain. His skin was tough so the ice didn't rip it right away. Elsa didn't mean it, he knew it.
"Monster… MONSTER!" The Duke roared in fury. Brooklyn growled from hearing the word he hated the most being thrusted at the girl he began to love more than his own life. His eyes glowed. "You dare…" Elsa took that distraction and ran. Brooklyn heard this, ignoring his rival, Anna and Hans joining him, the group going after Elsa.
"Elsa!" Anna screamed, as they reached the lake. Elsa backed up, her feet touching and freezing the waters. She gazed down in surprise, then seized this chance, running across, freezing more of it.
Brooklyn felt despair when seeing Elsa reaching the other side. "No, come back!" He begged pathetically, slipping on the ice. Anna did too, Hans helping her. Brook flinched from his sore hand. Anna took a look, seeing it raw and cold.
"Brooklyn, did she do that?" He nodded. "But she was only scared. I don't hate her for this. It's nothing," the red gargoyle mumbled, feeling them helping him up. Hans suddenly noticed something happening.
"The fjord…" he murmured, turning the friend's attention to the spreading magic ice, coating every inch of the waters, keeping the boats trapped. Brooklyn's face fell further as he saw snow fall in the middle of June. Elsa had accidentally done eternal winter upon the land.
