"Hush now, you're safe," Kana whispered as her son began to sluggishly fight out of his unconsciousness.
The boy was also trying to fight off phantom attackers. She whispered quiet words to him, too weak to use her psychic powers anymore that day. Touched his hair, and face gently, as he fought the ghosts that were his sheets.
Soon he quieted, too tried to fight any longer, while being comforted by the familiar voice. Slowly his green eyes slid open, staring blankly into the white ceiling. When his eye drifted, a softly smiling face greeted him. Summoning whatever strength he had left in him, he tried to grin. It pulled at the bandage on his face, but he gave no sign of knowing it, "Hey there, pretty lady."
"Hello yourself, Nayoa." she replied, relieved beyond all words that he had awakened sooner rather than later. There was a time, only hours earlier, she was afraid he wouldn't waken at all.
"You okay?" he rasped out.
"Just tired." she smoothed down his hair again, trailing her fingers down his pale cheek.
"What about Haruna?"
"She's just next door, resting now. She just got a nasty bump on the head. You did a good job of protecting her."
The boy beamed at the complement, "How's dad?"
"He's fine now," she whispered as she bent to kiss his forehead.
"That's good," he slurred, out his eyes already drifting shut. "Will you be here when I wake up?"
"If I'm not, I'm with your sister, and will be along soon."
"It's kay, she needs you more," The boy smiled as his eyes shut, "G'night, Mom"
"Good Night, Nayoa."
And she truly believed that it was a Good Night. Despite the fact, both her children lay in hospital beds, wrapped like mummies, hooked to tubes, and machines. It was a Good Night, because they were alive.
She even thought it a good night, despite the fact, that she would have to raise them alone. There were no tears in her eyes as she walked into her daughter's room, just to see she was still breathing. She knew they would come. Maybe when she has to explain what had happened to her kids. That, that same thing might happen to her one day.
But she thought it was a Good Night, because there was no more pain, worries, or fighting in Heaven.
"Yes, he is fine now."
