Prologue:
Bridget kicked her heel against the couch leg absentmindedly, waiting for her friends. Where could they be? she thought anxiously, staring at the wall clock.
Suddenly, Bridget heard the front door burst open and her three giggling friends emerged in the doorway a moment later.
"Hey, Bee!" Tibby jumped onto the couch next to her. "What's up?"
Bridget was about to retort with an angry comment about them being later than the time they planned to meet back at their apartment, but Tibby's cheerfulness was contagious.
"What movies did you rent, Carma? Did ya bring the film, Tib? Oh, and Lenny, did you get the music?" She babbled.
"Provided you got the food, Bumble Bee." Lena replied, smiling as she and Carmen squished onto the couch.
"Always." The four of them replied at once, laughing. The laughing stopped, and they were quiet.
"So," Bridget finally spoke up after a minute of silence as she picked at a blister on her heel from her soccer cleats. "First day free, huh?" there was an odd silence as her voice pierced the quiet of the air. All four girls had their legs up on the couch, their hands clasped just below their knees as they though about each other and their friendship.
"Yep." Lena finally agreed softly. They were back in Bethesda, living together in an apartment just as they'd planned.
She hopped off the couch, put the popcorn in the microwave, and struggled to get the video in the video player. "Got it!" she exclaimed, pumping her fist in the air as the movie began to play.
Bee had slid down to the floor, her back against the couch, and Carma was braiding her long blonde hair. Tibby joined her on the floor, and Lena plopped next to Carmen. The four friends sat their, chewing their popcorn, and watching the movie silently.
