It most be snowing in hell for me to update so quickly.
"Can I ask you some things about Camille without you getting upset?" Olivia asked Hank as they laid in bed. Things were still awkward between them, but she was trying to stay calm because of her pregnancy.
"Go ahead." He nearly gruffed at her. He didn't like talking about Camille at all, especially when it was prefaced with a phrase like that.
Olivia noticed his tone of voice, but decided to ignore it for the time being. "Erin came over today, and she was telling me a little bit more about her childhood. Is there a reason why Camille didn't want Lisa and Lana around? Or her taking so long to warm up to Erin?" Thinking about the conversations from earlier today, and it had her getting upset all over again.
He sighed. Just the way Olivia set up the question, he knew this was something that had been bothering her all day. "She felt like Micheal would do something to Erin and Justin if we had Lana and Lisa there. I regret it to this day that I listened to her and didn't just take them in. It was also less than six months after I took in Erin, that I suggested taking in Lana and Lisa. Erin is another story."
She raised a brow while looking at him. "What is that supposed to mean?"
Hank didn't realize how many secrets he had until these last four months happened. "When Camille and I first got together, I told her about you and Erin and she was okay with it. When Erin came back into my life, she assumed that I would reach out to you and she never believed that I was over you. She also didn't believe that Erin staying with us would be temporary but I told her that I wasn't going to lose my daughter for a second time. Eventually, she gave up fighting with me. I know you're probably thinking she was rude to Erin or gave her the cold shoulder, but she didn't. She just didn't become motherly until about a year in."
Olivia was silent as she tried to process all of the information she received. She was protective over her daughter, rightfully so, and already hated she couldn't be there for a majority of her life. "Erin is torn up about this. There's a lot that has been happening to her and I'm worried about her." Olivia said calmly.
"I've been keeping an eye on her at work." But he agreed with Olivia. He knew his daughter was strong and could handle a lot, but he didn't want all of these secrets to push her over the edge. "There's something else you need to know."
Olivia felt her stomach drop and she let out a long exhale. God, this man was full of secrets. "Yes?" She asked not even looking at him.
"Justin isn't biologically mine. Camille got pregnant with him while we were on a break, but his real dad didn't want anything to do with him. No one knows besides you." When Hank first found out about her pregnancy he was hurt, especially after the situation with Olivia, but he was more than happy to step up to the plate and treat Justin like his. There was not a day that went by where he ever looked at Justin any differently.
Olivia's eyes nearly popped out of her head. "What?" She turned her body to look at him. "What?" She repeated again. She couldn't even form words. The dynamic of their family has changed so many times over the last few months, she was having a hard time keeping up. "Wow, Hank, wow."
"There was no need to tell Justin because I'm his dad regardless of what DNA says."
She crossed her arms. "Oh, just like there was no need to tell Erin anything? Hank, you can't just get to decide what you should and shouldn't tell people about their life."
He knew this was going to start an argument and this is the last thing he wanted. "Erin and Justin have already been through a lot. The last thing they needed to think about the fact was that they weren't wanted by their parents."
Olivia's eyes widen and her jaw dropped. "Are you kidding me? Are you freaking kidding me? Do you think you're some damn hero because you got Erin off of the streets? If you would have waited just six more months to go into the damn academy, we could have kept her! You do not get to sit here and make me feel bad about the adoption. I made the biggest sacrifices and you still got your happy ending." She got out of bed. "Screw you, Hank." She walked into their closet and grabbed an overnight bag.
He didn't mean that Olivia didn't want Erin and now he is seeing the error in his wording. He got out of the bed and followed her into the closet. "I meant Justin's dad, not you."
"No, you didn't, you bastard." She saying throwing more clothes into the bag. "You meant that. You've always meant that." She spat. "You have not once tried to make me feel better about not being in our daughter's life, but instead continually made me feel like crap for giving her up for adoption." She brushed past him to grab her toiletries. She had no idea where she was going, but she wasn't staying here with him.
"Olivia," he grabbed her arm to stop her from walking into the bathroom.
She yanked away from him. "Do not touch me." She said with tears now rolling down her face. "I have never forgiven myself for not keeping Erin and I never thought my partner, out of all people, would be the one to make me feel the worst about it." She had never been so hurt by his words before. Even after that has happened over the last few months, she has stayed by his side because she saw the good in him, and he couldn't even do the same for her.
"Benson, I'm sorry. I didn't know I was making you feel that way, but I knew you wanted Erin from the moment you found out you were pregnant. I promise I did not include you in that, okay. Just listen to me." He hurt her, he had been hurting her, it was evident all over her face. He was almost sure that if she wasn't pregnant, she would have broken up with him.
"Noah and I are going over to Erin's tonight." She simply stated before she walked out of the bedroom.
Erin stormed up the stairs of the precinct and headed straight to Hank's office, ignoring all the looks from everyone. She slammed the door behind her, gaining his attention quickly.
He expected this after last night, but Erin knew better than to bring personal issues to work. "Don't." He said holding up his hand, hoping that would stop her.
"Screw you. She's almost seven months, pregnant, Henry!" Erin was furious. When Olivia showed up to her doorstep at midnight, with Noah. She assumed the worst. It took a lot of convincing from Olivia for her to not go straight to Hank's house to take care of him herself.
"I didn't kick her out, she left." He said defending himself. "And I don't appreciate you walking in here like this. At the end of the day, I'm still your boss."
"Okay, then I quit. I'll work for Olivia. I don't give a damn. You have put us all through hell because of your secrets, so excuse me for not being a little bit more respectful." She started pacing his office to calm down a bit. They were both hotheads and this conversation could easily turn into a screaming match.
"She told you about Justin?" Hank was pissed. He wanted to be the ones to tell the kids and he didn't care how hurt Olivia was, that wasn't her place.
Erin stopped pacing and looked at Hank. "What? No. What's going on with Justin?" If this was another secret that Hank was keeping, she was for sure going to lose it.
He shouldn't have put his foot in his mouth, because now he was regretting it. Of course, Olivia wouldn't share that without him there. He knows her better than that. "He's not mine." He said nonchalantly.
"What?" Her eyes squinted as she tried to process what she just heard. She went from thinking of Justin to just her adoptive brother to her biological brother and now back to her adoptive brother. "What does that even mean?"
"Camille and I took a break during our relationship and she got pregnant. Justin's dad didn't want anything to do with him, so I raised him as my own."
"Is that why Olivia left last night? Because you like keeping secrets?" Olivia didn't say much when she went over to Erin's house, because she didn't want to put Erin in the middle of their fighting, but Olivia coming over with puffy eyes was all Erin needed to know.
He shook his head. "Apparently, I've been making her feel bad about placing you for adoption."
Erin scoffed. "Yeah, sounds about right. I believe that. I'm taking a leave of absence. Olivia planned us a getaway to a resort in Geneva, and we're taking Noah. We both agreed that we needed space from you, but with her being so far in her pregnancy, we still wanted to stay close. Have fun updating Justin with all the family secrets." She said before walking out his office, not giving him the chance to say anything to her.
The entire unit went back to acting like they were working when she walked out.
She rolled her eyes. "I know you guys were listening. I'll be back in a week, don't call me for anything." She said before walking out of the room.
"I'm so excited to get away from this place for awhile." Erin said playing with Noah, while Olivia packed for their trip.
"I am, too." Olivia said with a smile. "It's like our first mother-daughter trip. Though, I wish it was happening under better circumstances." Her voice got sad at the end. She loved Hank, so much. She couldn't imagine her life with anyone else, but the last few months of their relationship have not been good, even with them bringing a new child into the world. She knew this break was needed.
"He told me about Justin. I don't even know who I am anymore." Erin sadly chuckled. "I've learned so much about my past and I'm scared it's more to it." From being adopted, to Bunny killing her adoptive mother/sister to finding out about Justin, she didn't know if she could handle anything else.
Olivia sighed as she zipped up her suitcase. "It's been a wild four months for all of us. I knew dating Hank Voight wasn't going to be easy, but I definitely didn't expect this."
"Are you going to leave him?"
She shrugged. "I honestly don't know. I have to think about myself and you kids. I would have loved a second chance at making things right with this baby, but I wouldn't want to raise a baby in this environment."
Erin nodded. "If you do, it's understandable. We all have secrets, but his have done so much damage. And the storm isn't over yet, either. Justin doesn't know about any of this. It's going to hit him so hard." She knew her brother and how much he had struggled while they were growing up, especially trying to make Hank proud.
Olivia felt bad that their kids had to deal with all of this and she wish could just protect them from harm, but it was hard when their father was the one causing the most damage. "Well, that's on Hank to figure out. He made his bed, and now he has to lay in it." Olivia was started to put her wall up when it came to him, and she hated it, but she had to protect her feelings also.
"You're right. I just know Justin is going to be upset with me because I haven't reached out to him about any of this." Though, Justin and Erin had started to drift apart once he went off to the military, that was still her brother and she felt like they should be going through this together.
Olivia got up from the floor, struggling a bit because of her stomach and walked over to the bed. She sat next to Erin before she spoke. "It's not your place, love. Everything that has happened he needs to hear from your father. You've only known this for a couple months, Hank has known for a couple of decades."
"I just finally felt like I had a family when I found out you guys were my birth parents, and now I feel like it's being ripped apart." Erin confessed with a lone tear rolling down her cheek.
"Oh, honey," Olivia said before wrapping her arms around Erin's shoulders. "Whatever happens between your dad and I, we will always be a family. I promise."
"Lady left you?" Al asked standing in the doorway of Hank's office.
"Yup. Her, Erin, and Noah made it to the resort safely. They told me not to contact them unless it was an absolute emergency and they will talk to me again when they hit the road to leave. They're also fifteen minutes away from a hospital if something happens with Olivia." He sighed. He couldn't blame anyone but himself for them leaving, but he wished that he and Olivia could just work this out right now.
Al sat down on the couch. "Well, at least they're being rational. Meredith wasn't quite like that."
Hank took the bottle of whiskey out from his bottom drawer and poured them both drinks before he spoke. "I don't think she's going to come back."
Alvin grabbed his drink and sipped for a moment, while he thought. He knew about every bombshell that Hank has dropped on his family in the last few months, and he was honestly surprised Olivia has stayed this long. "You're one lucky son of a bitch if she does."
Hank smirked and shook his head. "Erin's pissed at me, too. I haven't even told Justin about anything that has gone on. On top of the fact, I still want Bunny behind bars."
"You're thinking about Bunny when your family is falling apart in front of your eyes? You focus on the wrong things, man. This is why your pregnant lady and your two kids are two hours away at a spa because you stressed them out. There is no case, no job, more important than family life, and I learned that the hard way." Al had been in the garage for years and he knew better than anyone else that if you let this job get in the way of your relationships, it will.
"This is the first time I have no idea how to fix a situation."
"Yeah, because it involves you admitting you were wrong and swallowing your pride." Al took another sip of his drink before he got up. "I lost a good woman because of my pride. Don't make the same mistake I made."
:)
