A/N: I realize this is very out of the blue but instead of finishing my 3000 word paper,I felt like writing Neji. Some may say it is redundant but as you may or you may not see, that it partially the point, lol. Oh how I adore these two!

As always, read, review, and make my day!

Disclaimer: Nothing's mine.

There has always been a sort of silent agreement between the two of them: when Hinata is weak, Neji will be strong.

And really, that's not saying too much because Hinata has almost always been weak, in the eyes of most people that seemed to count anyway, especially in her own. Similarly, Neji has always been strong, in everyone's eyes, even his own. No exceptions.

As Hyuga Hinata grows older however and the responsibilities of being a future clan head loom closer over her pretty little head, she worries she will not be strong enough and she worries that she will fail them all because there are so, so many pale eyes counting on her now.

Two of those pale eyes belong to a boy who knew her but didn't, and yet, his judgments of here were still somehow justified, even if in his eyes alone.

Neji worries as well sometimes but not as often and not even nearly to the same extent or the same things as Hinata. He worries for her image, for her self-confidence, and primarily, he worries for her. He does not, however, worry for her lack of strength because when Hinata is weak, Neji will be strong. It is understood.

That is not to say that Neji is not already strong because Neji's strength is flawless. This has already been established, over and over again. Everything about the boy—now almost a man—radiates it, from the rigidity of his posture, the cut of his hair, to the line of his jaw.

And it is mostly because Neji is never weak that Hinata should never really have to worry all that much about not being strong.

Nevertheless (and they both know this), were Neji to ever fall on his knees or break his back or lose that cool, calm composure of his, he knows that Hinata would be strong. Strong enough to make sure that Neji's weakness goes unnoticed, strong enough for the both of them, and then some.

And a few times—although no one but the two of them know this--that has come dangerously close to happening.

But as far as the eyes can see, even the eyes of the Hyuga, the eyes that think they can see all, Hinata is weak and Neji is strong. No exceptions. The others have probably noted something about their little agreement but they barely know half of it.

The other half is the half they do not know and never will because that half is seldom brought up and seldom thought possible and so should seldom be worried for.

But between the two of them, they know that when Neji is weak, Hinata will be strong.

And Neji—although he may very well have been the only one, the only one from the Hyuga for sure—has never seen her as anything but. No exceptions.
