Author's Note: Sorry it's been a while. I've been contemplating on what to put in this chapter. I've been rewriting ideas in this chapter a million times.
Sorry this seems short. This is based on the Picture Day shorts in DC's Super Hero Girls. I figure that Ghost-Spider deserves her own version of the story.
Any and all comments are welcome.
Every student of Metropolis High was nervous about this particular day. There wasn't any supervillain attacking. There was no test that was impossible to solve. This was something far more sinister and difficult to deal with: picture day.
After getting off the school bus, Gwen was more than happy to see Diana as the first face to greet her at the school. "Morning, Diana."
"A good morning to you too, Gwen Stacy." Diana said right before entering the school with her friend. "Could you enlighten me on something?"
"Sure. What do you need to know?"
"Well, I notice that today, many of our fellow students are giving extra attention to their appearances."
Diana looked down the hallway observing every student that was brushing their hair, taking close looks at their mirrors, and getting looked at by their friends.
"Yeah, Picture Day can do that to people." Gwen said complacently.
"Picture Day?" The amazon asked. "I was never aware that there was a holiday about pictures."
"It's actually more of a special school day." Gwen said. "You see, every year, students are required to sit in front of a camera and have their picture taken. They then take that photo and print it onto the pages of the school yearbook. Yearbook copies are then handed out to students at the end of the school year."
"Sounds interesting." Diana said.
"Well, to some, it's more like stressful. You can only have one try at a picture, so a lot of students have a lot of pressure looking their best. I can only imagine how much attention Zee is putting into the tiniest details. Though, I'm sure you don't have to worry since you're naturally beautiful."
"Well, thank you. What about you?"
"I'm not really worried about that. I'm fine with just looking okay. Just as long as nothing exciting happens that may mess me up, everything will be fine."
BOOM!
All the students gasped when they heard an explosion in the distance. It wasn't close to the school, but it didn't sound far either.
Gwen sighed. "I had to say something."
After changing into their costumes, Ghost-Spider and Wonder Woman followed the sound of the explosion to the bank. They arrived to a demolished front entrance and entered on high alert. When they arrived, they saw the bank vault being shaken by a loud blast from a man with metal gauntlets. He also wore a yellow-and-brown outfit covering his entire body and green eye lenses.
"I don't believe it." Ghost-Spider said. "It's Shocker."
"Who?" Wonder Woman asked.
"The Shocker. An old enemy of mine back at New York. His gauntlets shoot violent bursts of vibrations that can basically demolish anything in front of him."
"Then why is he called the Shocker if he doesn't use electricity?" Wonder Woman asked.
"Honestly, that always went over my head too. But the point is, we gotta stop him before it's time for my picture."
Ghost-Spider swung over and landed quietly behind the Shocker. She tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention. He stopped his blasting to looked, but was surprised when Ghost-Spider shot a wad of web onto his face to disorient him enough for her to kick him to the wall.
"Tagged ya, Herman!"
Shocker ripped the web from his face. "You! Here?"
"Of course, I'm here. You're not exactly the most subtle of supervillains, you know. By the way, have you met my friend?"
Shocker heard the sound of a sword unsheathing and turned. He was surprise to find Wonder Woman falling to him with a sword in her hand. He quickly dodged out of the way and used his gauntlets to force some distance between the two heroines.
"So the rumors are true." Shocker said. "You came to Metropolis and got yourself a little crew."
"They're not my crew. They're my friends."
"Ghost-Spider is correct." Wonder Woman agreed. "Our bond cannot be broken by anything."
"Let's put that to the test!" Shocker cried out firing his gauntlets.
Ghost-Spider was the first to dodge out of the way with a web swing while Wonder Woman raised her shield to protect herself. The blast managed to nudge her backwards, but she kept her composure with great discipline. Shocker sent another, longer blast to Wonder Woman trying to knock her down.
Ghost-Spider saw her friend's predicament and swung down to save her. However, Shocker saw her coming and grabbed her throat with one hand before slamming her down. Shocker then held his gauntlet at the side of her head and fires a strong blast making her yell.
"NO!" Wonder Woman cried out. She dropped her shield and pulled out her sword again. She ran to Shocker and swung it at him. He blocked the attacks with both of his gauntlets before attempting another blast straight at her face. But much to his surprise, there was no blast. All he saw were the gnash marks on his gauntlets that were short-circuiting.
"Uh… Call it a draw?" Shocker asked nervously. Wonder Woman's only answer was a knock-out punch.
After dealing with the villain, Wonder Woman went over to Ghost-Spider and helped her up. The web-slinger was groggy, but she was regaining full consciousness.
"Are you all right, sister?" Wonder Woman asked.
"WHAT?!"
"Uh… I asked if you were…"
"WHAT?! I'M SORRY! MY EARS ARE RINGING!"
"…Oh, dear."
As if the ears were bad enough, the battle really messed up Gwen's hair after she removed her mask. When she and Diana changed back into their student clothes and headed back to the school, fortune favored them when they came across Zee Zatara, who lowered her head.
"Zee." Diana said. "Are you all right?"
"Not really." Zee confessed. "One strand of my hair curled up at the last second before my picture." She turned to Gwen and gasped. "Though, it looks like you have had a worse hair day than I did."
"Apologies." Diana said. "We were fighting another criminal just now, and I guess the battle may have been a mess for Gwen Stacy."
"WHAT?!" Gwen yelled.
"She may also have her hearing impaired." Diana said. "Don't worry though. She's doing better by the minute. I suspect her hearing will come back very soon."
"Okay." Zee said. "Still, Gwen really needs a quick makeover before she's called up."
"Can you really help her before… Oh, wait. You're already done." Diana was surprised seeing Gwen return to her normal look and Zee carrying makeover supplies in her hands.
"How do you feel, Gwen?" Zee asked.
"WHAT?!"
"Guess I should have seen that coming." Zee said.
Suddenly, the intercom buzzed. "Gwen Stacy, to the gym please. It's time for your picture."
"That's your cue." Zee said.
"WHAT?!"
"Just go!" Diana said as she pushed Gwen down the hallway.
Gwen sat in her chair ready for her picture to be taken. She looked picture-ready and the photographer had his thumb on the shudder button.
"Say cheese, Ms. Stacy." The photographer said.
"WHA…"
SNAP!
And so, the picture that was ended up taken was Gwen Stacy with her mouth wide open as she was cut off in the middle of a word.
