A/N: I
know 'Hook Man' was ages ago, but I was watching a repeat
recently, and this plot bunny took hold of me at the end. What if Sam
had got a premonition, and that's what affected his decision?
Dean watched through the rear-vision mirror as Sam walked back to the car. "We could stay"
Sam paused. He knew what would happen if he stayed, just let Dean drive off into the sunset while he stayed behind. As soon as he'd touched her hand he'd known somehow. He and Lori would date, get married. They'd have two kids, a girl and a boy, a dog, a cat, goldfish. He'd finally have the normal apple-pie life he'd always dreamed of, and best of all, he'd never have to hide his past from Lori, not after what she'd experienced. He'd be safe. Alive.
But Dean would be dead.
In the same moment that he saw his perfect life, he saw Dean, lying cold and dead in some backwater town.
Sam didn't look over at his brother, afraid of what he might see. He shook his head slightly. He could give up that perfect life to protect Dean.
He had to.
