Day 2: Commander Grey

Commander Grey walked to the edge of the encampment, ready to take over the watch from whomever was on duty. Whoever it was had gotten to see the sunset; Grey would be stuck through the long, dark hours.

So it had to be sometimes.

He stopped at the post, surprised to see General Billaba's padawan, Caleb, taking the shift.

"Hey kid," Grey announced himself.

Caleb turned around startled and stared at the him for a moment before registering what was going on.

"It's just you, Commander," Caleb said relaxing. "Don't scare me like that!"

Grey chuckled. "Sorry kid, habit. Do it with the boys all the time."

Caleb shrugged. "Guess I'll have to get use to it, huh?"

"Guess so," Grey nodded, smiling. "Now, I'd hate to keep you overtime. Go get some rest."

"Thanks," Caleb grinned. "It's past my bedtime!"

"I'm sure it is kid," Grey chuckled as the boy stood up. "Sleep well."

"Oh, I will," Caleb laughed as he ran off. "I'm so exhausted, I'll sleep well anywhere!"

Grey shook his head and took the boy's place.

It was strange to have someone so young among them, but it was also refreshing. There was something about his energy that brought life back to the men. And the General.

It was good. Grey liked the kid.
