Whirling his combat spear above him, Bulat created powerful gusts of wind. Seeing him do so, a dozen skeletons remained motionless. Eventually, they closed in on him and attempted a group attack. Unfortunately, no sooner were they in front of Bulat than their heads left their bodies while the rest of their bones were pulverized.
In an instant, Bulat had pulverized the entire group of skeletons. However, turning around, he saw other skeletons running towards him. Their number seemed to be infinite.
"Damn it! They're not powerful but they're going to overwhelm us eventually."
At that moment, huge roots came out of the ground and surrounded the skeletons before crushing them. Then, a whip struck a few creatures, which immediately turned to stone. At first surprised, Bulat saw Mare and Aura position themselves in front of the skeletons, all while affirming.
"We'll take care of them! You go help the boss and Leone."
" The boss ? "
Turning around, Bulat saw the pair facing two ghouls. Holding Najenda in her arms, Leone was jumping to avoid multiple fireballs that the two ghouls created. Seeing that Leone were unable to perform any counterattack, Bulat rushed to their rescue.
Leaping into the air, he placed his battle spear above him before slamming it down at the skull of one of the ghouls. However, sensing his presence, the creature turned around before reaching out its arms. Creating a magic shield, he saw Bulat's weapon hitting his protection, creating a huge shock. Seeing the combat spear become completely blocked, the ghoul laughed.
"What did you think you were doing human? How could you think, for a single second, that you could…?"
A cracking sound was heard. dumbfounded, the creature saw a crack appear on his magic dome, at the place where Bulat had struck it.
" Impossible. "
In response, Bulat raised his weapon before lowering it multiple times. Thus, the shield of the ghoul was hit by a veritable rain of attacks, the power of which was far superior to that of a normal human. Having a power exceeding level 30, the ghoul was certain to have the advantage against the mercenaries. Still, seeing her shield continue to crack under Bulat's onslaught, she couldn't help but start to feel fear.
"How... How a human can be si strong ?"
Seeing his struggling teammate, Ghoul B turned to the duo, before creating a fireball.
"Die." He shouted, aiming at Bulat.
Seeing the attack, Bulat crossed his arms in front of him and felt the luminous sphere touch him and explode on contact. Not having finished, Ghoul B created more fireballs, which pelted the smoke cloud, intensifying its size.
"A human will never be able to face us." The monster declared, continuing his attacks.
However, suddenly sensing a presence behind him, Ghoul B turned around and saw the outlines of a man in armor. Having used the power of Incursio, Bulat had managed to leave the cloud of smoke, becoming invincible, before moving towards Ghoul d.
Seeing him, Ghoul A immediately withdrew his shield, before targeting Bulat with lightning. Nevertheless, a feline paw struck his face and three claws created deep cuts, which made the undead howl.
"Now it's you against me." Leone declared.
Seeing that his teammate was preventing any reinforcements from coming to help Ghoul B, Bulat again raised his combat spear. And, before the creature could make the slightest move, the end of the weapon struck the top of his skull, before cutting through his flesh. In an instant, the combat spear ended up touching the ground, after having crossed the entirety of the ghoul's body.
Jaws wide open, Ghoul B remained completely still as he let out a few moans. Eventually, his body split into two parts, which parted to the sides, before falling to the ground.
In one attack, Bulat had just killed the ghoul. Having seen this, Aura looked at Bulat, while showing slight surprise. Having been aware of the attack, she knew that Galadriel had brought in ghouls above level 30. So they were much more powerful than Iguva. And yet, Bulat had defeated one, without getting the slightest scratch.
"This guy...could he get the power to match a pleiade ?"
Meanwhile, his hand still resting on Mine's head, Ghoul C smiled sadistically as he searched the sniper's memory to bring her worst nightmares back to life.
"HAHAHA! Humans are so pathetic! Compared to the living dead, they always let their emotions or memories make them weak! That's why they will always remain an inferior race."
Suddenly, he felt immobilized, while a dozen threads had tied him up. "
" What ? " Shouted Ghoul C.
"Humans may be individually weak." Lubbock agreed. "Nevertheless, by fighting as a team, they can become invincible."
Immediately, trying to free himself, Ghoul C felt the threads penetrate further into his putrefied flesh.
"Let go of me."
"With pleasure." Lubbock assured, tugging at his threads. "In a second, you'll be free...but in pieces."
Nevertheless, sensing the danger, Ghoul C let his body turn into a shadow, which disappeared into the ground.
"How?" Lubbock wondered, seeing the creature free himself from his threads.
Moving across the surface of the ground, the shadow passed between Lubbock's legs, before appearing behind him.
" I'm here. "
Turning back to him, Lubbock tried to attack. Unfortunately, a fireball hit his abdomen. Immediately, the flames burned Lubbock's skin, causing him to scream in pain as he was thrown backwards. Falling to the ground, he cried out in agony as he rolled on the ground, trying to put out the flames that covered him.
"AHHHHHHHH! It's burning! Help! I'm dying."
"What did you think you could do against us, stupid human." The creature roared. "You can never defeat a being greater than you! DEATH WAVE!"
Suddenly, a purple mist hit Lubbock, and immediately his whole body shook in terror, as every shred of courage had left his mind.
"What's going on?" Lubbock asked, unable to calm his tremors.
Seeing him paralyzed with terror, Ghoul C targeted him again with a sphere of fire.
" GOODBYE. "
However, he stopped, feeling two daggers dig into his back. Screaming in pain, he turned, and saw Scheele's silhouette behind him. With her face lowered, the young woman had hesitated to join the fight because she no longer had her teigu. Nevertheless, she had understood something.
Even without her giant scissors, nothing could stop her from helping her friends, like Tatsumi did. Even a weak person could step into a fight to help her friends defeat their enemies.
"AHHHHHHHH!" Roared the ghoul, before stretching his arm behind him.
Managing to grab hold of the young woman's hair, the undead threw her in the direction of Lubbock. Unable to move, he felt his friend's body hit him hard, and the pair fell to the ground.
"You're starting to annoy me." Ghoul C asserted. "When will you realize that what you're doing is unitile? No matter how hard you try, you'll never pose a threat, in the eyes of Jaldabaoth-sama."
Getting ready to kill the duo, the monster suddenly felt a bright light on his back. Turning around, he was surprised to see Mine standing there with Pumpkin in her hands. Concentrating all of her energy on her weapon, she glared at the ghoul, who couldn't help but back away.
" Impossible. "
"You dared to bring my nightmares back to life." Mine roared. "I will never forgive you for that."
"Tsss! It's just words." Ghoul C retaliated, creating a giant fireball. "Since it's hard for you to understand this, I'm going to show you that you're nothing but a pathetic human."
Throwing his fireball, he send it towards Mine. However, keeping her calm, Mine continued to concentrate her power in her weapon, while she knew perfectly well that this news increased the danger which awaited her. Finally, as the burning sphere was going to hit her, she began to scream, before creating a gigantic beam of light.
Hit by the attack, the sphere of fire stopped short. Then, much to the ghoul's surprise, it got pushed back and walked towards its creator who could only scream in fear.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH!"
Feeling the fireball burning him, the ghoul then ended up being completely disintegrated by the laser beam, which even made the ashes disappear. Continuing on its way, the beam of light headed towards the place of battle where Aura and Mare faced the skeletons.
"Huh?" They wondered, turning around.
Seeing the attack bearing down on them, they immediately jumped to the sides. Less reactive than them, the skeletons found themselves in the path of the laser beam and, a moment later, a powerful explosion shook the area, while the entire army of skeletons was completely decimated.
Once these enemies were gone, Mine ceased her attack. Then, Pumpkin fell to the ground. Exhausted, Mine no longer had the strength to hold it in her arms. Finally, seeming to lose consciousness, her body fell forward. However, a pair of arms caught her and prevented her from hitting the ground.
"Good job, Mine." Scheele congratulated her. "You were great."
Weakened, Mine remained motionless. However, two tears ended up flowing, while she recognized the voice of her friend.
"Scheele…I'm so sorry…sorry that I couldn't protect you effectively! It's because of me if…"
"I'll get stronger." Scheele retorted. "Even without my teigu, I will surpass the strength of the Empire, and when I face it, I will get my weapon back! Don't worry! I will keep fighting, in the name of Night Raid."
Hearing the explosion Mine created, Ghoul A started backing up and turned his head in all directions. However, he tried in vain to find a teammate, he noticed that all his companions had perished in the attack and that he was the sole survivor.
"It's impossible! We was defeated...by humans."
"You completely underestimated us." Leone asserted, walking towards him.
Cracking her knuckles, she confessed.
"I don't know if you are a true undead, but in any case, I will make sure that you stay in the grave that I will do for you and, this time, you will stay underground, forever. "
Gritting his teeth, Ghoul A suddenly raised his arms to the sky.
"As if that had a chance to happen! Appear, Death Archer."
Surprised, Leone saw him keep his arms in the air. Yet nothing happened.
"Hey, what are you doing? Honestly, I think you missed your..."
"LEONE! Behind you." Najenda shouted.
"Huh?" Leone wondered, turning around.
At that instant, her gaze caught an arrow that was heading towards her. Seeing its head towards her heart, Leone positioned her arm in front of her organ and felt the end of the arrow pierce her member. Moaning in pain, she felt blood pour from her wound. Managing to look up, she saw a new undead, who looked like a skeleton, with a bow in his hands.
" You ... " Shouted Leone.
Lightning struck her back, causing her to scream in pain. Chuckling, seeing her fall to her knees, Ghoul A declared.
"From the start, you didn't have the slightest chance of winning against us! Finish her off, Death archer."
Taking another arrow, the archer aimed at Leone. However, before he could fire his arrow, a metallic hand grabbed his skull.
" What ? " Ghoul A wondered, seeing the archer trying in vain to escape the grip of this hand which seemed to crush the bones of his skull.
" I'm definitely not the most powerful person in Night Raid. " Najenda stated. "Nevertheless, I feel powerful enough to defeat you."
Having ejected her artificial arm towards the archer, she ended up rewinding the chain that connected it to her shoulder. Immediately, the archer's feet left the ground, while his body flew towards Njaenda. Immediately, clenching her second fist, Najenda showed that he had brass knuckles.
Continuing to move towards her, the archer could not do anything before being violently struck at the level of the skull. Immediately, cracks were heard, before his skull was completely shattered. Seeing the rest of the suqelette's body fall to the ground, Ghoul A backed up further, as he finally realized that he had completely underestimated Night Raid's strength.
"Hey, mummy head."
Twisting his face, Ghoul A looked terrified, seeing Leone walking towards him. Gripping the arrow that was still in her arm, the young woman didn't hesitate to pull it out of her arm. And, instead of grimacing, she put on a murderous smile.
"It's time to end this fight."
Then she leapt towards the ghoul and tried to disembowel him. Dodging in extremis, Ghoul A tried to put a distance between Leone and him, in order to be able to create a magic spell. However, finding herself in front of him, Leone chained the attacks and forced the undead to retreat further while having no chance to counterattack.
"You won't run away."
Suddenly, flying through the air, Ghoul A managed to evade her attacks and aimed at her.
"It is not you who will prevent me from giving my master another victory."
Unfortunately, hearing a strange sound, Ghoul A looked up and saw an arrow hurtling towards him, before sinking into his eye. Screaming in pain, he felt blood pour from his wound. Having touched the bow in her hands, Najenda took aim and managed to hit him with one shot.
" LEONE ! "
Immediately, the woman-lioness bent her legs before projecting herself towards the sky. And a moment later, she found herself right in front of Ghoul A. Not having time to react, the undead felt Leone grab his skull. Then, an instant later, she threw him with all her might towards the ground.
Only able to scream in fear, the ghoul crashed against the ground and found himself in the center of a crater. Spitting blood, he felt unable to get up. Barely managing to open his good eye, he was terrified, seeing Leone fall towards him. Crushing him with all her weight, Leone blew his head off, killing him in an instant.
As soon as the ghoul's body stopped moving, victory belonged to Night Raid. Letting herself sit on the floor, Leone heaved a sigh of relief.
"It's finally over."
Not far from her, touching the body of the ghoul he had killed, Bulat asked.
"What are these monsters? Are they real undead?"
"Is everyone alive?" Najenda asked.
"YEAH!" Aura assured, completely unharmed, as she appeared with Mare.
"We're here too," Scheele assured, as she helped Mine and Lubbock walk. "Nevertheless, we have a problem."
Dropping to his knees, Lubbock still trembled in fear, while Ghoul C's attack still took effect on him.
"Mom! Help me! I'm scared."
"Looks like he's in a trance." Scheele stated. "I am unable to reassure him."
With a weary sigh, Najenda affirmed.
"Leave it to me."
Then, grabbing Lubbock's hair, she forced him to stand, before bringing her mouth to his ear. Inhaling a large amount of air, she then began to scream.
" LUBBBBBBBBOOOOOOOOCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKK ! "
Immediately the boy stopped shaking as he began to give a military salute.
" Yeah, Najenda-sama ? "
Fully coming to his senses, the boy was surprised to see his friends around him, while the ghouls and skeletons all seemed to have been defeated.
"What is it that ...?"
" Boss ! "
Appearing then, Akane arrived, while carrying Tatsumi in her arms. Putting him down, she let everyone see that Tatsumi no longer had his arms. Instead, he only had part of his forearms covered in bandages, to keep him from losing more blood. Gritting his teeth, Tatsumi tried not to scream in pain, despite his injuries.
" His adversary cut off his arms. " Affirmed Akame.
"Damn it." Grgona Najenda. "Lubbock, can you sew them up?"
"Impossible!" retorted the boy. "My power can only be used for this with Leone! Even if I sew Tatsumi's arms, he can never make them move."
"Tsss! In that case, let's hurry to heal him and..."
Suddenly, a huge magic circle appeared on the ground and covered the whole area.
"What?" Mine wondered, jumping.
"What is that?" Lubbock called out, hiding behind Bulat.
Suddenly, all of the corpses of their enemies began to light up. Then, what remained of the skeletons disappeared. All that remained of them was their weapons and their shields. Then it was the bodies of the ghouls that disappeared. However, they were replaced by three vials of red color. And finally, Hamsuke's corpse disappeared, to be replaced by a glowing crystal.
The next moment, the magic circle disappeared. Standing still, the members of Night Raid were unable to understand what had just happened.
"Huh? Did I just dream or did what I just saw happen?" Lubbock asked.
"Why are the bodies of our enemies gone?" Scheele asked.
"Jaldabaoth will surely try to resuscitate them." Aura explained.
" WHAT ? RESUSCITATE ? "
"Yes! He has that power! If the corpses of his men aren't too badly damaged, he can resuscitate them."
"Is this a joke?" Lubbock huffed. "But then, if that's the case, we did all this, for nothing?"
"I don't think so." Mare retorted. "I mean the skeletons and the ghoul that Mine killed have been blown to dust! I don't think they can be resurrected! Besides, I think we've won."
"What do you mean?" asked Bulat.
In response, Aura walked over to the red vials and picked them up. Pretending to examine them, she threw one at Akame.
"Give this to Tatsumi."
" What is that ? "
"A medicine made by Jaldabatoh! It's a healing potion."
"A healing potion?"
"Yes! It is able to heal any wound."
"What?" Mine wondered. "Are you kidding us?"
Simply shrugging, Aura replied.
"Make Tatsumi drink one of these potions! You will see its effect."
Hesitating for a few seconds, Akane ends up biting into the cap of the vial, before removing it. Then, she opened Tatsumi's mouth, and introduced the end of the vial between his jaws. Feeling the liquid running down his throat, Tatsumi nearly choked. However, within seconds, the vial was completely emptied.
Standing still, the other warriors stared at Tatsumi's body. Nevertheless, nothing happened.
"I told you so." Mine affirmed. "This potion is just..."
Suddenly, Tatsumi screamed in pain. Feeling that what was left of his arms was at the center of a fiery ember, the boy curled up in a ball, screaming in agony. Then, raising his stumps to the sky, he allowed everyone to see his limbs lengthen, before resuming their original shape.
Dumbfounded, Lubbock could only stammer.
"Tatsumi's arm...they pushed back."
Stopping screaming, Tatsumi opened his eyes, and sat down on the ground. He didn't feel anything anymore. No pain, no fatigue. It was like he hadn't fought. Then, looking at his arms, he began to move them and had no trouble bending them or moving his arms.
The potion he had just drunk had truly healed him.
