Chapter 1: A Shade of Gold (1/3)

The next day came as sudden as a storm. Maxwell slept in a bit until he was awake by his faithful house elf.

He put on a simple outfit composed by black trousers, black shoes, a white shirt under a brown jacket.

Afterwards, he met with his grandfather and the two made their way to Diagon Alley. The trip there was very quickly as Angelo used Apparition to teleport the two of them.

Their first stop was Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions. Which to Max's surprise, his friend, Draco Malfoy was there. Angelo left Max in there so he could get measured for his robes while he went to get some of the materials.

"Will you quit your complaining already." The measurement for his clothing quickly became a drag as Draco wouldn't stop complaining about his mother not allowing him to go to Durmstrang Institute. "It's not like there's anything you can do."

"I know, but I was looking forward to studying there." Draco kept on with his whining.

"I get that. But whining won't change anything, so can we please finish this conversation and go back to shopping?"

Max and Draco met when they were five during a visit that the him and his grandfather made to the Malfoy Manor. The two quickly became friends that same day. Although Maxwell's grandfather isn't very fond of Lucius Malfoy, he was glad enough that Max had a friend. Even though, Lucius used their friendship to get close to Maxwell and Angelo in more than one occasion.

"Alright, I'm meeting Crab and Goyle in the Leaky Cauldron after buying my cauldron." Draco commented.

"No." Max spoke as the lady finished with his measurements.

"What?" Draco asked in confusion as he steeped in for his measurements.

"I'm not meeting with those meat heads, they might get the impression that I'm actually friends with them." Max spoke bitterly. "Why do you hang out with them anyway?"

"Father says to always keep potential allies close." Draco replied. "Or in their case, potential servants."

"Those two are nothing but a couple of useless idiots," Maxwell added. "But you do whatever you think is the best for you."

"Father also said to invite you for dinner today." Draco told him. "Him and mother actually." Narcissa Malfoy was very fond of Maxwell.

"Is this a special occasion or something?" Maxwell asked in curiosity.

"Apparently, father invited the Greengrass for dinner as well." Draco added.

"Oh... Is it... About that arrangement?" Maxwell asked.

Lucius Malfoy has been talking with Dougal Greengrass about an arranged betrothal between Draco and Daphne's younger sister, Astoria.

"I sure hope not! The last thing I want, is have pathetic boot licker as a father-in-law."

Dougal Greengrass is a weak man, he singlehandedly lost a very considerable amount of the Greengrass wealth due to his poor management. So he's hoping to recover himself from this lost by pretty much selling his daughter for the highest bidder. Which at the moment, it's Lucius Malfoy.

"If that's the case, I'll be there. Someone has to keep Daphne from killing her father for this." Maxwell was quick to comment, as Daphne has expressed nothing but repulsion on this entire situation.

After he said that, the lady finished with Draco measurement as well.

"How come, he didn't got one for Daphne?" Draco asked.

"Cause he knows that Daphne would kill whoever he arranged to marry her." Maxwell was exaggerating, but Daphne would indeed do something drastic if that happened.

Whatever they were going to say next, was interrupted by the lady that measured the two of them came back with their robes.

"I think they were literally the most expensive robes that she sold today." Draco remarked as while on the inside, they noticed that their clothes were of very high quality compared to the others.

"Probably, I have to get my wand and find my grandfather." Maxwell informed Draco. "I'll see you tonight."

"Bye." Draco then started to walk the other way.

Maxwell then made his way to the last place that he needed to go. He walked in the direction of Ollivanders, the wand store. A wand was what he had really been looking forward to. He had used his father's wand several times in the past to perform spells and he couldn't wait to have his own.

He made his way inside the store but didn't see anyone.

"Good afternoon," He heard a soft voice.

Max jumped. He hadn't heard the man enter the room."G-good afternoon. Mister Ollivander, I presume?"

"Yes. I recognize you."

"Maxwell. Maxwell Peverell."

Mister Ollivander shot him a startled look. "Oh my, I remember like it was yesterday when your grandmother came here with a Thunderbird tail feather and asked me to use it on a wand."

Maxwell smiled at hearing. "So you're the one who made my father's wand."

"Yes, I was quite surprised when the wand easily responded to him." He replied with a smile. "Your mother too. It seems only yesterday she was in here herself, buying her first wand. Ten and a quarter inches long, swishy, made of willow, Nice wand for charm work."

"I don't know what happened to that one, but my father's still safe and sound at home." Maxwell told him. "I came here hoping to get myself one."

Mr. Ollivander smiled and walked towards one of the shelves in the story. "Your grandmother brought two items that day, and I made a wand out of the second item as well." He told him as he reached for a box.

"What was the item?" Maxwell asked in curiosity as he knew that his grandmother fought many dark creatures.

"I'm not sure myself, she never specifically told me what it was or how did she aquire." Mr. Ollivander replied as he walked back to Max. "But she insisted that I check if the object could be use it as a core."

"And...?"

He opened the box and pulled and strange but beautiful looking wand. It a had silvery look to it, with a hilt that was heavily ornate, with a sapphire on the bottom.

"Did my grandmother asked for that?" Maxwell asked, probably already knowing the answer.

"No, this was your grandfather's request. " Maxwell almost slapped his forehead as his grandfather had a very annoying habit of being very extravagant.

How much did he pay for that? He thought as that wand couldn't have possibly been cheap.

"Eleven and a quarter inches long, inflexible, made of a unknown wood." Maxwell made a very confused face at that.

"Unknown wood? What do you mean?" He was aware of the certain woods used for wand making and he couldn't understand what he meant by unknown.

"Well, you see Mr. Peverell. Your grandmother actually delivered this wood for me and payed a very high amount of Galleon for me to attempt to produce a wand with that unknown object." He explained to Maxwell. "I was very surprised when I succeed."

"Do you know why?" Maxwell asked. His grandmother was always an enigma for him.

"No," He responded, before handing Maxwell the wand. "Give it a try."

Max picked up the wand, and the moment he touched, he felt a familiarity to it. Like it always belonged to him. He never felt that with his father's wand.

"Marvelous." Mr. Ollivander commented, as he sees the wand's reaction. "Mr. Peverell, don't take this the wrong way. But be careful, I'm not familiar with the effects of neither the core or the wood of this wand. So it could be dangerous." He explained his concern.

"I understand, and I'm promise to be careful." Maxwell replied as he looked at the wand. "Would you mind if I return here if the wand starts to act strange?"

"Not at all. I actually would prefer it that way." Mr. Ollivander told him.

After Maxwell got his wand. He made his way to the bank, where he promised to meet with his grandfather. But as soon as he got there, he saw him conversing with a familiar half-giant man.

"Hagrid!" Maxwell spoke happily as he saw the half-giant man.

"Max!" The moment Hadrid saw him, he lifted Max off the ground and gave him a hug.

The man was Rubeus Hagrid. Hagrid was Angelo's best friend during their time in Hogwarts and he was also the godfather of the late Alistair Peverell.

"What are you doing here?" Maxwell asked him.

"Jus' grabbing something for the Headmaster." Hagrid replied as he put Maxwell down. M', look at how much you grown." Hagrid commented, as Maxwell was indeed taller than the last time they saw each other.

"And now, I'm big enough to go to Hogwarts." Max told him while raising his wand proudly.

Both Angelo and Hagrid smiled at that.

"Well, It was very nice seeing you today my friend. But Maxwell and I need to go now." Angelo told him.

"Yes, I have to deliver something to th' Headmaster, I better be' on my way a' well. " Hagrid also said his goodbye. "Next time I see you, I hope you'r wearing the robes." He told Max while huffing his hair.

Maxwell smiled and gave him a thumbs up.

"Show me." After both Maxwell and Angelo finished the shopping. They returned home, the first thing they did when they arrived. Was go to the training room to check Maxwell's new wand.

"Expelliarmus" Maxwell launched the disarming spell at several training dummies. All of them were disarmed.

"Marvelous," That was his grandfather answer.

"Can you tell me, what is the wand made of now?" He asked. As his grandfather told him to test it first before he answered.

"Honestly... I'm not sure myself." He answered while scratching his gray hair. "Your grandmother brought the thing that was used for the core from one of her hunting trips a year before your father was born. The wood was from a tree that we found during our honeymoon but I myself don't know the kind." He told him. "Your grandmother never liked to talk about her travels."

"Wait, if you found the tree in your honeymoon... how did Ollivander got it?" Maxwell asked in confusion.

"She... chopped down the tree and brought to the castle." Maxwell raised his brow in confusion. "Don't ask why." It was all he said.

Angelo then picks up his pocket watch and checks the time. "Alright, do it one more time then get ready for the dinner at Lucius's home." He told Maxwell. It was late already.

Maxwell turned around with his new wand at hand and prepared for the training session. "I want only Elemental magic, and do it wordlessly." His grandfather instructed.

Maxwell just nodded.

"Ready... BEGIN!"

Max started to run at the first obstacle, which was a wall that he had to climb, but before he did, he shot an spell at a target that completely set it on fire. He climbs up the wall with ease, before shooting another spell at a target in front of, the spell soaked the target.

After that, he jumped down from a considerable height and rolled when he hit the ground before shooting a third spell at the dool in front of him. The target freezed completely when it hit it.

"Thirty seconds." His grandfather told him. "A three seconds improvement." He commented.

Maxwell has been instructed in magic by his grandfather from a early age. Since Angelo Peverell is considered the second greatest wizard alive.

"Very good, you're reflexes definitely improved." He said. "That wand definitely suits you more than the other. The spells came out stronger." He pointed out.

Maxwell also noticed that. Elemental magic was never his strong attribute but with the wand, it just came easily.

"Well, I have to sign some papers for the Ministry. Why don't you get ready for the dinner." His grandfather told him, before waving his wand fixing the targets that Maxwell just damaged. "I won't be joining you in it, so make sure you behave yourself."

Maxwell nodded in response before making his way to the exit. He was going to prepare himself for the dinner at the Malfoy Manor.

1976:

Alistair Peverell was on a difficult quest. He needed to discover who was the guy that Lily Evans fancies. So he can make sure that his cousin doesn't do anything drastic to the person when he finds out.

"Hey, Al!" Speaking of the devil. James came down from the bedroom.

"Where were you last night?" His cousin asked him.

"Nowhere, just went for walk." Alistair lied.

Both cousins stood in front of each other. If they didn't say so, no one would be able to tell that they were related. As the two look nothing alike.

James was a tall, thin boy with hazel eyes and untidy black hair that stuck up at the back.

Alistair on the other hand, was a tall and broad shouldered boy with sapphire blue eyes and golden blond hair that was nicely brushed back.

"Walk? You always complains when Sirius and I go for a walk." James complained.

"If all you two did on this "walks" of yours was indeed walking, I wouldn't complain." Alistair replied sarcastically as James "walks" with Sirius, usually involved some dumb prank.

Suddenly, they heard someone coming down from the girl's bedroom. It was Lily and Alice.

"Hey," Alistair greeted them.

"Hi, Al." Lily greeted him with a smile.

Alice just waved at him.

"Sup, Lily." James greeted her with a smile.

"Potter." Lily replied coldly. "Are you going to Slughorm's party today?" She asked Alistair with a completely different tone.

"Maybe," Horace Slughorm invited both Lily and Alistair to join his Slug Club last year. As he thought the two were very talented. "Although, I'm thinking about spending the night studying for the O.W.L.s."

"Like you need to study, Remus studies more than you do and you still get better grades than him." Alice comments.

"It's true." James confirms it while folding his arms. "Besides, the O.W.L.s are months away."

Alistair just raised his shoulders in response.

"Well... if you decide to go, maybe we ca-." Lily was trying to tell him something, but unfortunately she was interrupted.

"Hey, James!" They heard someone calling him. They turned around to see Frank Longbotton.

"What is it Frank?" James asked him.

"Sirius is looking for you, he said it was important." Frank told them. "He's on the Middle courtyard."

James started to ran to the entrance of the dorm. "See you guys later." He said to them.

"Well, I better get going as well." Alistair put his hands in his pockets and started to walk as well.

"Where are you going?" Lily asked in curiosity.

"To my godfather's hut, he invited for some tea." Alistair visits Hagrid's hut with a lot of frequency. Maybe I should go with Lily to the party, It could be an opportunity to discover who is the guy that she fancies. "Hey, Lily."

"Yes?" She looked at him with her almond-shaped, bright green eyes.

"I think I'll go to the party, when are you going?" Alistair asked.

She lighten up and smiled at him. "I'm going at seven."

"Okay, see you at seven then." Alistair replied before he walked out of the room.

Alistair walked through the halls in direction of Hagrid's hut. He was having some thoughts in his head at the moment. What does Uncle Hagrid has to show me? He invited me to show me something but didn't told me what. While trapped on his own thoughts, he accidentally bumped into someone.

"Ouch!" He noticed that the person dropped several books on the ground. Alistair raised his head to see who it was.

"Watch where you're going Peverell!" It was someone that he usually saw under bad circumstances. Severus Snape.

"Sorry, I was distracted." He apologized while helping him pick up his books from the floor.

"You should be," Severus replied as he looked around. "Your cousin and his lackey aren't with you?"

"A: Don't call Sirius, Remus or Peter lackeys. B: I don't have an obligation to always walk around with them." Alistair replied while putting his books on his hands.

"Whatever, I don't care." Severus also replied. "Have you seen Lily?"

"She was with Alice, I don't know where she is now." Alistair answered. But then a thought came through his mind. Severus Snape is Lily's best friend. Maybe she told him, who's the guy she fancies. "Can I ask you a question?"

"What could you possibly wanna ask me?" Severus replied with an annoyed face.

"Do you... Know who it is?' Alistair tried to ask him suddly.

"Who?" Severus made a confused face.

"The... guy?" Alistair made another attempt.

"What guy? What exactly are talking about?" Severus seemed to have no idea what Alistair was trying to ask.

"Ummmm... Did Lily ever mentioned someone?" Alistair really didn't know how to do this.

"Peverell, what the hell are you talking about?" Severus replied clearly losing his patience at him.

"ARH! The hell with it , do you know who is the guy that Lily fancies?" The moment those words came out of Alistair ' mouth. Severus expression changed completely. His annoyed face turned into one of complete shock, like someone getting the news of a loved one that just died.

"W-w-what? W-wh-wha-what a-are tal-talking a-about?!" He stuttered nervously, which surprised Alistair.

"Umm... yesterday... Lily and I were talking about something and, I told her that as long as she's single, James would keep persisting." The mere mention of his cousin's name, made Severus grind his teeth as it was no secret to anyone in the school, that James Potter and Severus Snape despised each other. "She told me that she didn't care and that she was interested in someone else."

"Who?!" Severus nearly yelled to ask.

"I don't know, I was hoping you would know." Alistair has a feeling that he made a big mistake by telling him. But maybe he could help him discover. "I only know that he's a Gryffindor, half or pure blood, he's not on the quidditch team and James,Sirius, Remus,Peter and I know him." He told him the hints that Lily told him. "But Lily wouldn't tell me who it was."

"Why do you care?!" He asked with a lot of hostility in his voice.

"I need to make sure that James doesn't do anything drastic to whoever it is." Alistair explained and Severus grinded his teeth even more. "He already messes with you a lot for no good reason, imagine what he would do to whoever it is with a reason."

"Potter be dammed! He doesn't deserve her and this idiot is probably another arrogant Gryffindor! She's not going out with whoever it is, I won't allow it!" He yelled at Alistair before storming out of the corridor.

That was a big mistake. He thought while touching his forehead. Does Severus fancies Lily? And if he does... I just put another target on whoever the guy is. Bloody Hell! He slapped his forehead in frustration. I really need to find out, who this guy is before the situation gets any worse. Alistair then resumed his walk to Hagrid's Hut.
