Chapter 2: Legacy (4/4).
Maxwell Peverell always considered himself to be a curious person. He loved to learn new things, it didn't really matter what it was. Unfortunately, there were times when his curiosity got the better of him. After recovering a strange box for his dear friend, Daphne Greengrass at the Black Lake, Maxwell wanted to open the box to discover what was inside. But for some reason, Daphne refused to let him open it, insisting that she wanted to do it herself.
Something that Maxwell didn't mind at first but... Now he was really frustrated because, two months had pass and Daphne still hasn't been able to open the box and she refuses to let him help her. Something that increasingly bothered the blond boy as he really wanted to know what was inside and what exactly does Daphne want with it.
"Peverell." Here we go again...
Currently, the young Peverell was in the middle of Potions class. If Maxwell had to be honest, Potions were the subject that he was the least skilled at. But that was mostly due to a lack of interest as he never found brewing potions to be a challenge. But he was knowledgeable enough, so he had no problem in the classes. Well, he had one problem actually.
"Sir?" The problem was the Professor's strange treatment of him. It wasn't bad treatment per say, just strange. According to Draco, who he was sitting besides it, Snape and his father are friends... Or whatever "friends" are supposed to mean to someone like Lucius Malfoy.
"What is the last ingredient added to our current potion, the boil removal?" In every single one of his classes that Maxwell has been, he would always randomly stop to ask him a random question and Maxwell was almost certain that he was expecting Maxwell to answer wrong... Which he never did, because he didn't want to give him the satisfaction, so he memorized the Potion's book.
"Powdered goat bones." He answered correctly, which visibly or at least partially visibly, annoyed the Professor.
"Correct..." The long haired professor said.
What does he plans to achieve with the pointless questions? He's not even giving any points for answering them correctly. Maxwell thought in annoyance.
"Then perhaps you could inform the class how many times to stir a 'Wolfesbane' potion?" He asked another question.
Okay, now I know that he's trying to see me fail, I may not be interested in the subject but even I know that the Wolfsbane Potion is a complex potion that no first year would possibly know about it. "Nine, five clockwise and four counterclockwise." He answered correctly anyway.
"Seriously, he does that in every single class," Luckily and unfortunately, the series of questions that Maxwell was on the receiving end of it, were interrupting by the not so discreet whispers of his friend, Ronald Weasley. "Can't he find someone else to torture with those stupid questions?" Max desperetely tried to call his attention in order to make him shut up before he gets into trouble. .
"Is that right Mr. Weasley?" But it was too late. Professor's Snape heard what he said just as well as Maxwell did. The man dressed fully in black then approached the red head Gryffindor. "Tell me then, what is the last ingredient in the 'boil removal' potion?" He asked the exact same question that he asked Maxwell just a minute ago but Ron apparently already forgot. Maxwell noticed that, behind Ron, there was desperate hand of a certain bushy-haired Gryffindor, raising and practically flailing in a attempt to get the Professor's attention, but Snape approached his target instead. "Come now Mr. Weasley, surely you can at least copy Mr. Peverell's answers."
Ron's face turned almost as red as his hair and desperate searched around in hopes of finding a clue.
"Aren't you gonna help you idiot friend?" Draco whispered in his ear, clearly amused with the situation.
"How?" Maxwell asked. If I only knew Legilimency, but, grandfather refused to teach me until I was at least on my third year.
"Well? I gave Mr. Peverell half this time to answer. " Umm... Not exactly... "A response if you will."
"I... I don't know sir..."
"Ten points from Gryffindor for poor preparations." So... No points for getting the questions right, but lose points for getting it wrong? Maxwell thought in annoyance. "I would not expect someone of your caliper to be as informed as a Mr. Peverell, but I do expect reading up on what we will be working on for that day." That... almost sounded like a compliment. With that the man turned back to the front of the room, before a wave of his wand displayed a list of components for them to collect.
"Bloody Hell..." After the Potions Class was over, Max walked besides Ron to get to the next class. The boy with red hair was very frustrated about what happened in the class.
"Ron, please try to keep your mouth shut during Potions Class from now on." Max advised him as he didn't want him getting blamed for losing house points. "Professor's Snape clearly has something against Gryffindors." Most Slytherins did, but Professor Snape seemed to have some bias against his house.
"I already figured that part out but, why does he keep asking you those questions?" Ron asked in curiosity as he was literally the only Gryffindor he asked most of the time and the few times he asked another, it was usually someone that clearly didn't know the answer.
"How should I know? I'm certainly not going to ask him why." Max replied, though he was wondering the same thing.
"He scares me." Suddenly, they heard a voice coming from behind them. It turns out to be Neville.
"In his defense, you did blew your cauldron four times already." Max couldn't help but point out, though it was amazing how Nev managed to turn simple potions into deadly explosives.
Max,Ron and Nev walked alongside one another to make their way to Charms Class. It didn't took long for them to arrive and find their seats. Professor Filius Flitwick was a very pleasant teacher and he had a fun time in his class, even though he already knew most of what he was teaching. The lesson of the day, was the Levitation Charm. A charm that Maxwell has actually used often to lift heavy objects. It was as easy as always for him, but Ron struggle to do it properly. When Max was about to give him some advice however, Hermione Granger decided to interject and correct him instead.
"Five points to Gryffindor for excellent spell work, Miss Granger," the Professor commented.
Ron was clearly upset, mainly because Hermione didn't necessarily seem like she did it to help him, it felt more like her trying to show off how smart she was. Not that it wasn't understandable as she was doing great in her classes so far, despite the fact that she's a Muggle-born. Something that actually impressed Maxwell as there were Pure-bloods that were tutored from a young age that didn't know half of what she does. Though, Maxwell actually avoided her most of the time, because she was constantly asking him questions about his family, mainly stuff that she reads about them on books. Which was kind of annoying since the Peverell name is in nearly every single existing book in the Wizarding World.
Once the bell that signaled the end of the class sounded, Maxwell grabbed his bag and walked out of the classroom with Neville and Ron.
"She's mental! Mental, I tell you!" Ron prattled on beside Max.
"To be fair, I was about to do the same thing." Max told him. "But, I would have done it in a less..." The blond boy tried to find the right words.
"Bossy and know-it-all fashion?" Ron added, and unfortunately, it was the best way to describe it, which Max could only nod. "Why can't she just mind her own business for once?! I'm not surprised she has no friends. The only one that speaks to her is you, and don't pretend that you're not annoyed by it."
A little, but I don't have a problem in answering a few questions. Maxwell thought. However, out of nowhere, Hermione pushed past Max's shoulder and the sound of sniffling broke through his reverie. "Hermione?" She practically sprinted down the corridor and disappeared before Max could do more than extend a hand in her direction. "Great..."
"That was really mean, Ron." Neville said quietly from his other side.
"I didn't mean for her to hear it." Ron replied, clearly feeling bad about it.
"Well, she did." Maxwell added. "And I suggest you apologize once we return to the Common room." The blond boy then looked at the sky with a strange look. "So... You guys go on, I need to... Do something." It was the best excuse that Maxwell could come up with before he left his two friends behind. The truth is, he didn't had to do anything but now that the classes were done for the day, Maxwell had to find something else to distract himself.
How many hours have passed? After separating himself from Ron and Nev, Max went for a walk around the castle. A very long walk. There was a feast going on in the Great Hall. But it was a feast that he had no intention of attending, because Maxwell had absolutely nothing to celebrate. Halloween... The day I got the dreaded nickname and the day I was deprived of my parents. For as long as Maxwell Peverell could remember, he always felt, melancholic, when thirty-one of October came. He had a strange tradition during this day, wonder around aimlessly until it ended. Which, was exactly what he was doing at the moment. The classes were enough to distract him through the day but now there was nothing to distract him at night. All that the blond boy could do, was to walk until that bloody day was finally over.
Walking through the corridors slowly, Maxwell couldn't help but wonder how his life would be different if his parents were alive. Would he turned out different? Would he be a better or worse Wizard? Would him and his father be as close as his grandfather and him? Would he be a mamma's boy like Draco? Would he have any siblings? Those were just a few of the questions that Maxwell Peverell had regarding what could have been. But it will never be. And he's very disappointed as a result.
Suddenly, however. Maxwell's thoughts were broken by a sound. The sound of someone crying. Moving his head to see where the sound was coming from and he noticed that it was coming from the girl's bathroom. I guess, I'm not the only one sad today. He thought, before he decided to check. This is pretty disrespectful but I don't think there's anything... Inappropriate to worry about. He thought as he slowly entered the girl's bathroom. I mean, I did try to get a glimpse of Tonks the other day, but... I would never do something like this... Maxwell has encountered Tonks briefly a few more times after her little accident at the staircase, she keeps refusing to tell him her first name and he couldn't get any of the Hufflepuffs to tell him. He could ask one of the Professors, but he kind created a self-imposed challenge to discover without asking. But at the moment...
He followed the sound of crying until one of the stools. The blond boy then knocked. "Umm... Is everything alright... Ma'am..."
"Go away." The once behind the door said in response and Max instantly recognized the voice.
"Oh, Hermione." It was the voice of Hermione Granger, who he last saw after Ron spoke poorly of her. "Allow me to apologize for what my friend said, it was really mean of him." He knew that Ron should be the one to apologize, but he decided to do it anyway.
The sound of a stall door being flung open greeted his ears before small footsteps could be heard coming closer. The door finally open by a small fraction, enough to see the red-faced girl peek out.
Was she crying all this time? Max asked himself as he gave her a weak wave. "Hi..."
"Hi... What are you doing here?" She asked while still hiding behind the door.
"I...Was... " Maxwell looked down sadly, as the truth was that, he was trying to not think about his parents. The parents that he can't even remember anything about. "Going for a walk." He gave her an excuse as he didn't really wanted to talk about it. "Were you in there since the end of class?"
"...No," She said cautiously, but Max could tell that she was lying. "Shouldn't you be at the Great Hall?"
Maxwell made a confused face before he asked her a question. "Well, the two of us should be having dinner there but I don't think any of us are hungry."
"Yes but... " She said widening the opening slightly. "Shouldn't you be celebrating, today is the day you became the Boy-Who-Lived."
The blond boy could only cringe at hearing her call him that. Maxwell Peverell honestly despises that nickname. The Boy-Who-Live, more like the Boy-Who-Got-Saved-By-His-Mother. "There is absolutely nothing for me to celebrate and let's leave it at that." It was his response to what she said. Then he decided to ask something else. "I know that, what Ron said was mean but... Why are you so upset about it?" It's perfectly normal to be upset about being insulted, teased or mocked, but to cry in the bathroom over it.
Hermione's response to his question, was to shut the door again.
The Peverell heir folded his arms and waited.
"...Are you still there?" Hermione asked him.
"Yes, and I shall remain here until you answer my question." He stared
He heard her lean against the door and slide down, which he copied so they had their backs to each other. Though, Maxwell instantly regretted because the floor wasn't exactly clean.
"I thought it would be different."
She said with a melancholy feel, and he could almost picture her sitting against the door with her knees tucked to her chest.
"What would be different?" He asked in curiosity.
"I had just started my first year of Secondary School when I got visited by Professor McGonagall you see, and at the time there was a really mean group of girls that took turns picking on me." Hermione started to tell Max about the time before she went to Hogwarts. "When I was told I was a witch and could study at Hogwarts, I had been so excited, not because I found out magic was real, but because it meant I could get away from all the teasing at school." She admitted to him. " I was hoping this time it would be different, that I could have friends, that people wouldn't be the same... but I guess I was wrong."
"Oh Hermione, I thought you knew better." Max couldn't help but say. "You shouldn't let what other people say affect you, your too smart for that."
"I can't help it." It was her response. " Normally I can just ignore it, but today when Ron said-" Max interrupted her before she could continue.
"Ron felt really bad about what he said and he plans to apologize to you." Maxwell informed her. "But in his defense, it seemed to me that you were way more interested in showing off how smart you are rather than help him do the spell properly."
"No! I mean yes. Sort of, don't interpret me." She spoke defensively before she continued. " My point is that, what Ron said made me finally realize, it's been months since school started yet I'm still in the same position I was back then. I have no friends, my housemates think I'm annoying, and worst of all I've just realized that I forgot to return a book back to the library." The last part seemed to be the part that she was the most upset about it.
"Look Hermione, while I can't exactly say I know what you are going through, I can sympathize at least. What you need to understand is that where ever you go, there will always be people saying mean things to you. But you shouldn't listen to them, you should pity them." My grandfather always said that you should always pity the stupid and the ignorant. "Pity them for being too stupid to understand just how great you really are." I'm not saying this just to flatter her, I do think that she has great potential. "Trust me, when I tell you this, but you're something special." Not by Peverell standards though. "Chances are that you will graduate Hogwarts and the go out to do something amazing in the world, what ever it might be. Then you will look back to this moment and curse yourself for being stupid enough to let someone's passing comment make you doubt yourself."
A small silence ensured for a minute.
...
...
...
"I really hate you sometimes, you know." She said banging her head against the wall. "How are you so... so perfect?"
"Hah!" All he could do, was give a short laugh at that. "I'm flattered that you think that, but I'm not perfect." No one is, not even a Peverell. "I have flaws the same as everyone else, I'm just a very good at hiding them."
"Being humble isn't helping your case."
"Truth is, I'm very overconfident in my magical abilities." Which grandfather repeatedly warned me that it will get me in trouble at some point. " I have a tendency of getting melancholic at times." Draco and Daphne probably noticed my absence, but I don't think they're looking for me, which is good. "I'm actually starting to suspect that I might be a pervert." Because I honestly really want to bury my face in Tonks chest again. "And I'm honestly very insecure about my place in the family." He admitted.
"Wait, what do you mean by that?" Hermione was referring to the last part.
Maxwell took a deep breath before he spoke. "Name a book that you had read so far that doesn't somehow mentions the name Peverell." He requested her.
"Ummm..." The blond boy waited for her answer and she was clearly having difficulty to answer it. "I..."
"Can't think of any, can you?" It wasn't really a question. "There's only eight books in the entire Wizarding World that doesn't somehow mentions my family."
"Are you serious?" She seemed surprised by the number.
"My family produced some of the greatest Wizards in existence, that accomplished several great feats, discovered several innovations and created the greatest fortune of all the great Pure-blood families." Maxwell informed her proudly. "But there's a catch," He looked down for a bit. "Everyone expects you to be as great as the rest of them as a result."
"I..." She didn't seem to know how to reply. "Do you get compared to some of them often?" She seemed to really want to know.
"No," Something that gave him a considerable relief. "I unfortunately managed to achieve something already." Maxwell looked down sadly. "Maxwell Peverell, the bloody Boy-Who-Live."
"And... You have a problem with that?" Hermione asked him.
"Yes," Max definitely had a problem with that. "I don't want to be remembered as that." He wanted to be remembered for doing something great, not for something that his mother did. Lily Peverell defeated Voldemort, not him. "I want... To be great for something I did it myself and not for something that just... Happened." My grandfather made me promise that I wouldn't tell anyone about it. I never understood why.
Without even noticing, Max has reached under the door with his fingers. Strangely and surprisingly, he felt another pair of fingers grab his. She didn't say anything to him. So the two stayed in silence for a few minutes, with their fingers connected.
Maxwell finally decided to break the silence. "You... Wanna be my friend?" He asked her, really hoping to get a yes.
She gave an audible sigh, before the sound of her standing up prompted him to do the same. Slowly the door creaked open and Hermione stood there looking uncertain. "Are you... Asking just to be polite or..." Hermione reluctantly asked Max.
"Honestly, I actually think you're very impressive." Maxwell decided to admit. "You been doing much better in classes than most Pure-blood Wizards that have been tutored by their families long before coming here." He decided to list what he likes about her. "Believe or not, I actually find your ability to speak for long periods of time without taking a breath to be very interesting." He could never speak as much as she does. "And... I really, really, really like your hair, don't ask me why though, because I don't really know why either." Everyone says that her hair is awful but Maxwell genuinely likes it, but he cannot figure out why. "Those are only a few examples from the short time I have known you and... I really wanna know more about you," He scratched the back of his head. "So, would you, Hermione Granger, accept being my friend?"
The bright smile she gave him could have put a Lumos spell to shame. "I would love to."
Maxwell smiled in return. He often heard that he had his mother's smile, but... He never really saw it to be able to know. "You, wanna come to the Great Hall with me? We can at least get the ending of the celebration."
Her next response was cut off short as he watched her eyes grow to enormous proportions as she stammered for a response.
Max made a confused face.
"T-t-t-t-"
"Huh?" He was surprised by her stuttering. "What are you trying to say?"
"T-troll." She said visibly frightened.
"Troll?"
Maxwell suddenly sensed a very loud and hard stomp coming from behind him. Turning around almost instantly, the blond boy was shocked when he saw what was behind him. What the hell?!
Standing behind Maxwell Peverell, was a Mountain Troll. A bald beast with thick, dark grey skin. Carrying a large club and wearing a vest.
Slowly, he backed away, with a scared expression.
The Troll must have taken it as a sign of weakness as it gave an glass shattering battle cry, raising it's club high into the air.
Max, without thinking, pushed Hermione fully into the bathroom before he dodged to the side at the same time that the club smashed into the old wooden door, making it deform slightly, which trapped Hermione inside.
"AAAAAAHHHHHH!" Hermione's frightened screams pierced through his ears at the same time that he drew his wand and used. "Everte Statum!" At the troll's head to get it's attention. Not the most effective spell but I got to get him away from Hermione.
The spell seemed to do the trick as the troll turned to roar in his direction, lifting it's club to pursue him.
The only thing that the boy with blue-green eyes could do, was run out of the bathroom in order to get the creature away from Hermione.
Running through the hall as fast as he could, he carefully led the troll as far away from the bathroom as possible, while trying to avoid getting close to the Great Hall, where everyone else may still present at. Passing through several portraits, who could only stare at him with terrified faces as he runs with the troll right behind him.
"Quick in here!" A nearby painting said pointing to a door as the other chose to vacate their canvases as soon as he got near.
Entering an empty classroom, he shut the door behind him and made it to the other side just as the troll smashed , it's way inside. Good thing that I don't have any classes here.
When it tried to roar again, Maxwell launched the Disarming Charm. "Expelliarmus!" Which caused the club to fly off the Troll's hand. Thanks Merlin, you invented a wonderful spell.
The Troll, being a very stupid creature, decided to walk towards the club to get it back. Max, however, decided to take advantage of the creature's fabled stupidity and decided to use the Levitation Charm. "Wingardium Leviosa." Once he used the charm, the Club that the Troll was trying to reach, levitated off the floor and the Troll seemed confused.
With an evil grim, Maxwell had an idea.
Which was to hit the Troll's face with the Club. It held it's face in pain after the Club hit it's forehead. The blond boy chuckled at that, and at the sight of the stupid creature's tantrum over it. The Troll tried to reach for it angrily, but Maxwell just moved the club out of the way, still using the Levitation Charm. Hilariously, the Troll kept chasing after the club. I cannot believe that I was actually scared of that thing just a few seconds ago. He thought as he was trying to contain his laughter over the sight of the Troll running around the classroom in pursue of it's club. But Maxwell decided to put an end to it. He levitate the club as high as he could over the Troll's head, before he approached it slowly.
Once the Club was high enough and perfectly positioned over it's owner's head. Maxwell stood in front of it as it stared at the flying object and said. "Thanks for the fun time." He told the Troll to call it's attention, and the moment it stared at the Peverell heir with the same confused gave. He dropped the club right on top of it's head.
Once the club connected, the Troll stumbled for a second or two, Maxwell took three steps back, before the Troll collapsed right in front of him. "You know, you're not that scary up close." He couldn't help but comment it. The blond boy then got down to one knee. "How did you in here?" That question was directed at himself and not the Troll. "There's no way you got pass the castle defenses... Did someone let you in?" It was the most logical explanation. But who- Before he could finish that thought however, someone called his name.
"Max!" Suddenly he heard a familiar voice calling his name at the entrance of the classroom. Max move his head to see and was greeted by a blurry, bushy, brown bullet slamm into his chest completely knocking him over. It was Hermione, who wrapped her arms around him and her head buried into his chest. "Hermione? Are you okay?" It was the first thing he asked her before he patted her head gently.
A small nod was the only answer he got as her arms tightened around his chest and he felt his stomach get wet. She was sobbing right through his shirt.
"Hey..." Max kept on patting her head as she sobbed on his chest. Can't really blame, I was scared too. Until I realized how dumb it was. But, I'm just glad that she's okay. Then a thought came through his head. "Ummm... How did you got out of the bathroom?"
"Mr. Peverell? Miss Granger?" His question was answered almost instantly, as Professor McGonagall's shocked voice sounded into his ear. "Is that…? How…? Are…are you hurt?" She finally managed to say.
"I'm okay, Professor." He assured the professor. They probably got her out of the bathroom.
"How did this Troll got in here?" It was her first question.
"What the blazes?" Professor Flitwick squeaked as he came around the older woman. "Is it still alive?"
"Yes," Snape drawled swishing in behind the other two. "It still breathing." He noted as they could hear it's breath.
"Mr. Peverell?" Perhaps you should explain what just happened," Professor McGonagall could barely tear her eyes from the unconscious Troll, probably afraid of a sudden awakening.
"I... Noticed that Hermione wasn't in the Great Hall, so I decided to go see if I could find her." Maxwell decided to lie, mainly because he didn't want anyone to know the actual reason. "As I passed through the girl's bathroom, I heard Hermione inside and decided to... Speak to her and apologize from something I said during class that was... Considerably rude snd while we were distracted with our conversation, the Troll entered the bathroom, and I decided to distract it as Hermione got stuck in the bathroom stool." Hermione just nodded in agreement though she did spare him a slight confused face due to Maxwell's lie, both about his reason to be out at that hour and because he was taking the blame for what Ron said.
"But, how was the Troll incapacitated?" Professor Flitwick asked in deep curiosity.
"Oh, I used the Disarming Charm to take the club off it's hand, then I used the Levitation Charm to lift above it's head and dropped on top of it" Maxwell gave a simple but detailed summary of how he defeated the Troll.
"Oh my, ten points to Gryffindor for such a creative use of such simple charms." Professor Flitwick seemed very impressed.
"Mr. Peverell," Professor McGonagall said with a note of awe evident in her voice. "Do you mean to tell me that you single handedly defeat a mountain Troll?"
Maxwell nodded still patting Hermione's head. "It's not as impressive as it seems, it was dumb as a rock and easy to distract, and I honestly just wanted to get it away from Hermione."
Suddenly however, Maxwell noticed Professor Snape staring at him. But he wasn't analyzing him like he usually does, he was instead doing something else that greatly annoyed Max. He's trying to use Legilimency on me again, but it didn't work before and it certainly won't now. Maxwell noticed that Snape did attempt to use Legilimency on him, but luckily, Max was actually skilled at Occlumency thanks to his grandfather tutelage.
"Fifty points to Gryffindor for handling such a dangerous situation with such courage Mr. Peverell." Professor McGonagall rewarded him with it.
"And fifty points to Gryffindor to you triumphing over incredible odds." Professor Flitwick commented as he poked at the Troll's body with his wand. Not so incredible . "This is amazing, Mr. Peverell , that was quite brilliant thinking." There was a certain enthusiasm in his voice. " You would do exceptionally well in the dueling circuit, if you ever interested let me know."
"I will definitely think about it." Max was quick to reply to the small man. As he always enjoyed watching the circuit with his grandfather and he would love to participate.
"You will have to leave the thinking for later, Mr. Peverell." Professor Snape finally spoke. "There still the matter of the two of you roaming around the corridors in the middle of the night." Hardly the middle of the night, and I don't recall seeing any rule against roaming around the castle during dinner time.
After the long haired professor spoke, Hermione gave him one more squeeze and finally let go of him. She turned to the gathered staff. "Please don't punish him." She pleaded with the Professors. "He was only there because of me." Ummm... Is she going along with my lie? "I should be the one punished." Wait, no! "It was going to kill me and he only did what he could to help." Well, yeah, but... "I'm the one who deserves punishment." She pleaded once agsim. The tears threatened to fall again and Max reached out and squeezed her hand.
Before any of the Professors could reply however. The Troll moved slightly, causing both Max and Hermione, who were standing right next to it, to jump back a bit. The blond boy pointed his wand at the creature in response.
"Put your wand away, Mr. Peverell." Professor Snape ordered him. "It will be a while before this creature recovers from the blow it received."
"We better not take any chances," Professor McGonagall added. "You two, run along back to the Common Room and get yourselves cleaned up." She ordered the two of them. "We shall discuss the circumstances surrounding this event tomorrow."
The boy and the girl nodded and started to leave the classroom.
Maxwell and Hermione walked all the way back to the Common Room, holding each other's hand without noticing, soon they trooped through the portrait hole and into a crowded Common Room.
"There you are!" As soon as they entered, they saw that most of the students were standing in the room with worried expressions and Percy Weasley immediately yelled out at them. "Where have you two been? The troll – "
"Has been captured," Hermione stated. "Maxwell defeat it and saved my life." Percy's mouth dropped open at what she said and the rest of the room immediately erupted with questions towards Max.
But the loudest one came from another red head, who rushed towards him. "Wait, seriously?!" Ron asked him in pure disbelief.
"Like I told the Professors, it wasn't as impressive as it seemed." Maxwell replied to his red head friend. "The Troll was very stupid and it was really easy to outsmart it."
Ron was about to say something else, until he noticed something. "Umm... Are you two..." He spoke while pointing at her hands.
That caused the two of them to notice that they were still holding hands. They stared at each other's eyes for a second before letting go of each other's hands and looking away awkwardly. "S-so sorry I..." Hermione tried to apologize.
"It's okay." Max assured her. Then he looked at Ron and remembered something, which was the main cause of this mess. The blond boy then folded his arms and looked at Ron apprehensively. "Ron, don't you have something you wanna say to Hermione?"
Ron was caught by surprise with that. For a second, he actually seemed reluctant but that quickly disappeared. The red headed boy then took a deep breath and spoke. "I am really, really sorry for what I said about you earlier." He apologized to her sincerely.
Hermione stared at him for a bit in a slight uncertainty, but then Max looked at her and nodded, confirming that the apologize was genuine. She then sighed and also spoke. "I... Apologize for my behavior as well," The smart girl decided to apologize as well. "I genuinely wanted to help you but part of me was trying to show off and for that, I deeply apologize."
"So... Are we cool?" Ron asked.
"Y-yes." Hermione replied.
"Good, because Hermione and I are friends and we're probably gonna be spending a lot of time together from now on." Max announced to him while wrapping his arm around her. Hermione smiled shyly in response to that. "Now, please excuse me, I really need to wash myself." He informed them, not that be needed to, as he was actually covered in sweat due to the running the way he did earlier.
While he was moving towards the stairs, he turned to Hermione one more time. "Hermione, are you sure that you're okay?" Max asked just wanted to be certain.
"I'm fine, Max." She surprisingly hugged him once more "Thank you," She spoke in his ear before she walked pass him to go up the stairs to her dorm. "See you tomorrow?" She finished in a quiet, questioning voice.
"Of course." Max said, giving her his warmest smile possible.
Once Hermione was out of sight however, Max turned his head to the side and noticed the other students giving him weird looks. But he ultimately decided to ignored them as he didn't really care about it. The blond boy then, moved towards the stairs, with Ron following him. "Hey, come on, aren't you gonna tell e how you knocked the Troll out."
"It wasn't hard to be honest."
1976:
Alistair Peverell was confused. Very confused. How can this be?! That was a question that he was incapable of finding an answer too.
The previous night, the blond boy was shocked by a revelation that not in a million years, he would have considered to be a possibility. He, Alistair Lancelot Peverell, was the boy that Lily Evans fancied. And after she revealed that, the two, without thinking, snogged for several hours on top of the same bed that Alistair was currently laying on top of it. With Lily only leaving his side after the sun appeared. But she left without saying a word about it.
Seriously, what am I going to do?! The injured boy though in deep frustration as he layed in the bed, which still had Lily's scent on it. How in the bloody hell am I the guy she fancies?! He couldn't understand. Delicate beauty?! What exactly is delicate about me? Alistair was very anxious about the situation that he was in.
After finding out that Lily fancied someone, he was determined to help whoever this someone was in dealing with his cousin's reaction to it. But now, how is he supposed to help himself? Wait, do I really need to help myself? Let's be honest, Lily and I is just unlikely. Do I even see her that way? He asked himself, and honestly, an answer was pretty difficult to come by. I mean... I... Always thought that she was an amazing girl but... Suddenly, Lily completely occupied his head. Well she's... Very beautiful and smart... She's very caring, compassionate and I love that she's able to be kind and strong at the same time... I always thought that she was amazing... Do I have feelings for Lily? He genuinely asked himself that.
The Peverell boy could only think about that and the feeling that he felt when the two of them kissed each other. A kiss that lasted until morning. All he could do, was stare at the celling and think about Lily.
Suddenly, he heard steps coming from the entrance. He Moved his head to see who it was. "Hey friend," Luckily, it was his best friend. "It's so good to see you awake." He told his as he approached his bed.
"Hey, Remus." Alistair was glad to see his werewolf friend. "Is everyone okay?" He asked.
"Peter is having breakfast at the Great Hall," I could use some breakfast now. "James and Sirius are at the Headmaster's office with your uncle and aunt." That surprised him.
"Wait?" So early. "My uncle and aunt arrived already?" He was expecting them later, not at the morning.
"Well... Let's just say that..." Remus seemed to be having difficulty in finding the right words. "James's mum, scared the hell out me with how furious she was."
Alistair chuckled at that, not that it wasn't justified as his aunt was indeed terrifying when she was furious. "Believe it or not, my mum was much worse." He wasn't kidding.
"I don't doubt it," Alistair's mother had quite the reputation. "They asked me to warn you that they'll stop by as soon as they're done there."
"Good to know." Alistair was actually happy to be able to see his uncle and aunt. Fleamont and Euphemia Potter were his only relatives alongside James. He did had another uncle, his father's brother, but he apparently died under mysterious circumstances before Alistair was born.
"How are you holding up?" Remus asked him in concern as he sat on the edge of the bed.
"Well... My back and the left side of my ribs really hurt, I can't close my hand because of the bruise on it and my right cheek really hurts." Alistair admitted to his friend. "But, Madam Pomfrey told me that I only needed to consume a few potions and rest a lot and I'll be back at my feet in a week at most." Then Alisra remembered something. "Which means, I will probably not be around for your " furry little problem." He informed his friend.
"It's alright, James, Sirius and Peter can handle it, just worry about your recovery okay." Remus assured him, more concerned about Alistair's recovery over his own problem.
"I know, it's just... I feel bad for not being there for you."
"Al, you been there for me since the day you found out about it, it's not a big deal for you to be absent once." Remus reassured him once again.
"It is for me." Remus was right, Alistair has been there for him since the day he found out that he was a werewolf and he honestly felt bad for not being there for him during those dreadful moments. He was about to say something else, but, before he could speak, he noticed someone standing behind Remus. "Woah!" Which startled him. "When did you come in?" Luckily, it was someone that Alistair knew.
Remus turned around and was just as startled as Alistair.
"At the part where you said that your mum was worse than your aunt." The person in question, was a girl. With perfectly brushed waist lenght dirty blonde hair, protuberant silvery eyes, and faint eyebrows. She was wearing a spotless uniform with the Ravenclaw colors but with a few strange details on it. "Want some Bertie Bott's?" She asked with the box at hand, knowing that it was Alistair's favorite sweet.
"I accept." Alistair loved flavored beans. "Thanks Pandora." The girl's name was Pandora. She was one of the friends that Alistair had outside of Gryffindor.
"Open up..." Pandora than brought the a flavored bean into Alistair's month, with Remus actually looking a little confused.
The bean tasted like peppermint.
"Umm... Aren't you dating Xenophilius Lovegood?" Remus asked as he watches her feed Alistair.
"I am." She replied as she placed another flavored bean in Alistair's mouth.
It tastes like green apple.
"Umm... Won't he be... Bothered by you feeding him?" Remus asked as he thought it was strange.
"Actually," Alistair swallowed the bean before speaking. "Xeno would probably be the one doing it if he was here." He was actually very close friends with the two of them.
"It's true." Pandora agreed as she gave him another bean. "We were both very worried about you." She told Alistair as she patted his head.
The bean tasted like chocolate.
"I'm very sorry for worrying the two of you." He apologized to her as she touched the bruise on his face.
"Xeno had to hold me, so I wouldn't try my new spell on the ugly snakes that hurted you." Alistair could only sigh in relief, because he would prefer being on the receiving end of the Cruciatus Curse again over being on the receiving end of one of Pandora's spells. Because at least he knows what to expect from the former.
"Speaking of Xeno, where is he?" He asked as he found strange that he wasn't there with her.
"He took the blame for one my spells that went wrong and is serving detention with Professor Slughorn." She clearly felt bad about it, but Xeno would do anything for her.
"Okay, I don't wanna know what kind of spell it was." Alistair was actually terrified of her spells. Mainly because he was on the receiving end of a few of them alongside Xeno. "But I'm really thankful for your visit."
Pandora just gave him her unique smile before placing another flavor bean into his mouth. But Alistair spilled out as soon as he felt the taste. "What was it this time?" She asked in curiosity.
He coughed before speaking. "Dirty socks."
"How do you know what a dirty sock taste like?" Remus was quick to ask him.
"Sirius once hid one of his socks inside a jug of pumpkin juice that I drank from by accident." Alistair admitted.
"Ew!" Remus reacted as he unfortunately knows what Sirius dirty socks smell like and he could only imagine in deep disgust what they taste like.
For the next hour or two. Alistair, Remus and Pandora talked about a few subjects that interested them. Like Pandora's interested in the creation of spells, which Remus actually found impressive. Both her and Remus were sitting on top of the bed alongside Alistair.
"Hey!" Suddenly, their conversation was interrupted by someone calling out for them. It turned out to be James accompanied by Sirius, Peter and both his uncle and aunt.
"Hey," Alistair spoke with a smile. "I was wondering when you guys were going to show up."
"Oh my, look at what those awful boys did to you." His aunt Euphemia quickly rushed towards his bed and touched his bruised cheek. There was some obvious resemblance between her and Alistair mother, thought she had hazel eyes which James inherited, she also has larger ears and she was relatively thinner.
"It's not as bad as it looks, though it would have probably been much worse if James and Sirius didn't show up when they did." It was true, he would probably be either blind or wearing an eye patch otherwise.
"Yes," His uncle Fleamont, a man that looked like an older version of James, but with his hair gray and combed as oppose to James's black and messy hair. "These two nearly came to blows with those two at the headmaster's office." His uncle revealed to him with touching both James and Sirius shoulders.
"Seriously?" Remus asked.
"Avery started to spill those blood traitor nonsense and calling Mary a mudblood." Sirius explained to Remus. "Then Mulciber called Lily a mudblood too."
Hearing that, strangely caused Alistair to get angry. He already despises the word to begin with but with Lily being called, it strangely gave him a new founded hate.
"I would start slugging if mum wasn't there." James admitted while folding his arms.
"James, baby, you're better than that." His aunt told his cousin, who just looked away embarrassed at what his mother said. "Your father asked me to apologize to you for not being here right now." His aunt told him.
"It's okay, he did informed me that he had something important to solve before all of this happened, I certainly don't wanna cause any interruptions if it's indeed so important." Alistair knew that his father would have come right away if this wasn't so important. "And... The two of you coming here really means a lot, so... Thank you." He held his aunt's hand with his unbruised hand.
"Don't be silly Alistair, we are family after all." She squeezed his hand warmly.
"Exactly." His uncle Fleamont added with a smile.
Alistair smiled too, before he finally asked. "So... What's gonna happen with Avery and Mulciber?" He decided to ask.
"Well, the two will be expelled, there is no doubt about that." His uncle informed him. "The matter of using an unforgivable curse will be solved at the Ministry." Alistair already expected that. Attacking a student was a school matter, but the use of an unforgivable curse is a matter of the Ministry, though Alistair was expecting the possibility of they getting off the hook without suffering any consequences for their actions as the current Minister for Magic is secretly a blood supremacist, according to his father.
"That's not something you should concern yourself with at the moment." His aunt called his attention. "Worry about recovering for now."
"Okay, aunt Euph." Alistair agreed with his aunt, as he was in no condition to worry about such things. "Was Mary involved in the conversation?"
"Partially." Sirius told him. "Her parents are actually speaking with the Headmaster at the moment, Lily is there with her."
"Oh... Umm... Great." Strangely, Alistair got awkward at mention of Lily. "I... Really need to thank Lily for... Keeping me company last night."
"Wait, what?" James asked him in confusion. "Did she stay here all night long with you?"
Oh no, shouldn't have said that. I need to say something. "Y-yeah I... Asked her to stay, I... Wasn't going to be able to go back to sleep and... It was... Very dark."
"So?" James asked in confusion.
"James, did you forgot?" His aunt was quick to interject.
"What?" He didn't know what she was talking about.
"That Alistair is afraid of the dark since..." She looked at Alistair for a bit before turning back to James. "You know."
James seemed confused. But his confusion only lasted for a few seconds before he widened his eyes. "Oh... Y-yeah, I'm sorry, I forgot." The boy with glasses apologised while scratching the back of his head in embarrassment.
"It's alright mate." It was a half-truth, I did asked Lily to stay because I was afraid of the dark. "But I really want to thank her and apologize for the inconvenience that I caused her."
"You don't have to apologize to her," Remus told him. "Lily is more than willing to help her friends."
Yeah, but... I'm pretty sure that she wants to be more than friends with me. Alistair thought. Do I want the same thing? That was the question that he didn't know how to answer.
Soon enough, a few hours have passed and the Peverell boy was left alone in the Hospital Wing. His uncle Fleamont and his aunt Euphemia had to go home to check if a letter that they were expecting had arrived. Pandora went to meet with Xeno, who probably got out of detention. James, Sirius, Remus and Peter had to do... Something that Alistair knew it was bad, but he trusted Remus to keep an eye on them.
Right now, he had nothing to distract him about the topic. What are his feelings towards Lily Evans. Do I even feel the same way about her, I never thought about her that way before. The blond boy could only think about that.
"You look peaceful." His thoughts however, were interrupted by a very sweet voice. He looked to the right only to be greeted by gorgeous green eyes, staring at his blue eyes.
"Hey... Lily..." The blond boy could only stare at the red head girl. "How... Was the meeting?" Did it took this long?
Lily looked away embarrassed for some reason. "I... Only lead Mary to Headmaster's office , I didn't actually stayed there with her." She revealed to him awkwardly.
"Oh," Alistair was actually confused. "Then, where were you all day?" He asked her.
Lily cheeks got red once he asked her that and she looked away for a bit. That however caused Alistair to think that Lilt was very cute when she was embarrassed. "I..." She seemed to be having difficulty in choosing the right words. "Was actually standing outside of the Hospital Wing's entrance." She admitted him.
That surprised him. "Since when?"
"Since... That girl, was feeding you flavored beans." She seemed bothered by that as she folded her arms and made a very annoyed expression.
Alistair didn't understood what was the problem though and decided not to press it further. "You... Could have come in." He told her.
"I... Wanted to speak with you, in... Private." Lily's annoyed expression turned into an embarrassed one.
Alistair just stared at her with his sapphire blue eyes for a bit. "About... Yesterday?" It was a stupid question.
"What else would it be about?" Lily pointed the obvious to him while her cheeks got red.
Alistair cheeks also got red, as the image of what the two of them did the previous day came into his mind. "I..." What am I supposed to say? "Umm..." He awkwardly tried to come up with something to say to her and automatically, only one thing came into his mind. "Delicate beauty, really?"
That question, however, caused Lily to giggle. "Yes," It was her answer. "You are a delicate, Alistair Peverell." She sat on top of the bed before she continued. "You're not afraid of showing affection to your friends or admit about the things you're afraid of." A smiled formed on her face. "Some people describe that as being delicate, but I think it's beautiful." Alistair could only look away embarrassed after hearing that, manly because of Lily's beautiful smile. But that was cut short, as Lily put her hand on his face and gently moved back to face her. "Please don't look away, I'm pouring my heart out for you here."
"Sorry." The blond boy apologized. "It's just..." He, although struggling, sat up on the bed.
"Should you be doing that?" Lily asked in worry.
"No," He answered her. It didn't hurt as much as it did yesterday, thanks to the potions that he received. "But this is a conversation, that we should have face to face."
Lily instantly looked nervous when he said that. "Does that mean..." She seemed afraid to say it.
Alistair didn't say anything, he just looked at Lily's eyes up close as they're faces were only a few inches away from each other. I'm so confused. He thought. I still can't believe that I'm the boy she fancies. Lily didn't say anything either, she just stared at his sapphire blue eyes. She was clearly afraid of what he was going to say. Is she... Afraid that I'm gonna reject her. Alistair never saw Lily being afraid anything, it actually surprised him that the possibility of a rejection from him could frighten her.
"Please, say something." Lily requested it.
"I... Still can't believe that I'm the one you fancy." He admitted to her.
"Why is it so hard to believe that I fancy you?" Lily touched the side of his face that wasn't bruised. "You are a wonderful boy, Al."
Alistair didn't answer, he just held the hand that was on his face and squeezed gently with his unbruised hand. I... I... His mind was wandering off due to Lily's gentle touch and the sight of her wonderful eyes. Until his body pretty much moved on his own. Causing the blond boy to approach his face and press his lips into the red head girl.
Lily responded immediately by tightly wrapping her arms around Alistair's neck.
Their kiss lasted a minute, but it felt like an eternity. But Alistair put an end to it, because he really needed to say something. After pulling back, Lily looked at him with a curious look. "Are we..., A couple now?"
That question, caused Lily to smile happily. "Yes!" She confirmed him loudly. "Yes and Yes!" She repeated two more times just to be certain, before she kissed the boy that just became her boyfriend, very intensely.
Do I feel that way about Lily Evans?
Absolutely.
But there was still a problem.
Two to be more precise.
One had messy hair and the other had greasy hair.
I am extremely sorry for this horrendous delay. But as I already said, I'm writting on a very shitty phone and that really affects the update time. Ironically, I did got my hands on a computer to write this chapter but it was short lived and I'm still stuck with a shitty phone.
{Half of this chapter was written on a computer in a single day. Believe it or not.}
As always, Questions and Answers:
Got a trivia question
What's Maxwells favourite Quidditch team hope it's either the Holyhead Harpies or Tutshill Tornados for example
Got another question with the Malfoys in this did they still side with the death eaters because I would have thought with them enjoying such a good relationship and friendship with the Peverell family they wouldn't want to put that at risk for following a lunatic like Riddle
Random bit here but when it comes to magical creatures I hope we see Maxwell tame or already have we see him get
A Hidebehind
A herd of Graphorn
The Basilisk
The Hungarian Horntail
Nundu
The family could own a very extensive reserve to go with what I'm sure is their immense amount of private land for the Horntail and Graphorn herd to live on the Nundu for example could be Maxwells version of a house cat
Also hope Nagini ends up with Maxwell
After re reading this chapter again I can't help but now hope Nym is also the first girl Maxwell could see in her underwear or even naked with Nym doing it on purpose at some point in the year
Maxwell's favorite Quidditch team is the Tutshill Tornados. Which is also Angelo and Alistair's favorite.
None of the Death Eaters really followed Voldemort, it was his cause that appeased them. The Malfoys relationships with The Peverells is mainly a pragmatic partnership that Angelo has with Lucius (Angelo doesn't trust him but he sees his usefulness for matters at the Ministry.) and Max and Draco's friendship.
Let's just say that... Angelo and Maxwell have a lot of peculiar pets.
Tom and Max will have a pretty interesting relationship and that includes Nagini.
Maxwell would certainly like that.
Back again
Quick question we aren't going to see the entire school turn on Maxwell in years 2 and 4 are we like they did Harry are they partly because they don't want to cross the greatest wizard of their generation and two they like Maxwell to much to treat him like shit
Also because I can't help my self I hope these ladies are in the harem
Hermione, Nym, Fleur, Luna, Ginny, Daphne, Susan, Hannah, Gabrielle ( little bit older of course like she could be two years younger than Maxwell ) Cho, Padma, Parvati, Bellatrix, Nagini
Would say Astoria to but not sure if you'll pair her with Draco but my suggestions do need more Slytherins haha
Also will any of the girls from the Hogwarts mystery app appear in this say in the same year as Ginny and Luna and just the girls none of the boy from that game haha
I'm also curious if you'll go with the fandom standard when it comes to Susan and have her be the girl that develops the biggest breasts out of all the girls haha
Have you also already got in mind what Maxwells Patronus will be
Max will be a very popular student and a lot of them know that he's a great wizard, so they won't want to get on his bad side.
Let's just say that... Maxwell will involuntarly get stuck in a relationship with some of them. The only voluntarily relationship he gets into is with Hermione.
Oh no, Max would never, ever, even think about it. He respects Draco too much.
No, since I never got to play it.
You'll have to wait and see. (゜-゜)
The same as his father, which fits his Marauder nickname.
Been meaning to say this but I hope Maxwell excels in all subjects taught at Hogwarts talking best grades across the board
Liked hearing how Maxwell is with all the teachers in particular happy to hear how happy McGonagall was to have Maxwell in her class great that Maxwell will get on great with his head of house and I do hope that Maxwell ends up as her but a few other teachers favourite pupil
What happened with Snape also stood out considering Snape didn't needle Maxwell with questions nor try to make his life hell makes me think that Alistair and Lily didn't leave things on such a sour note with him and I suppose it helps that Maxwell's father wasn't Snapes worst enemy hence why Snape hopefully has no negative feelings towards Maxwell
Speaking of the teachers I do hope Maxwell is able to figure out Quirrel is the threat
Now certainly liked seeing Maxwell save Tonks from taking a nasty tumble down the stairs even better that it ended up with his face in her tits haha liked seeing the two hit it off and I do look forward to seeing them hang out more in the future and what other delightful experiences Maxwell has in store with her oh and hope he ends up calling her Nym as his nickname for her
Looking forward to finding out the purpose behind the item Daphne had Maxwell retrieve and hey Maxwell can teach her how to swim in the future
Also liked how while just swimming around Maxwell was just thinking how nice the feeling of Tonks chest on his face was and the admittance of the fact he did leave getting up for few seconds longer to enjoy said feeling still so glad that Maxwell is taking a early interest in girls
Yet another thing I liked was seeing Maxwell interact with the Giant squid and bond with it more hey maybe Maxwell can be the one that names the thing
Side note glad Avery and Mulciber got their rightful one way ticket to Azkaban for what they did
Over the moon that we got to see how Lily finally made Alistair realise that the guy she was in love with was him
Also I realised with Angelo running things for the 5th year of Hogwarts the DA won't have to form as that only formed because Umbridge was literally preventing all learning of defence against the dark arts and like I said I see Umbridge having been fired or arrested and thrown in jail years ago by Angelo's administration
In most of them, the ones he doesn't is mainly due to an lack of interest.
Just the fact that he's Alistair and Lily's son, already puts him in high regard with the staff.
Alistair was the Marauder that Snape least detested, which already puts Maxwell in a less, hostile area with him.
His first clue to suspect him already appeared.
Let's just say that... Maxwell is a bit of a pervert and Tonks will unfortunately be on the receiving end of his perverted behavior. {Not that she minds it, of course.}
Maxwell is much more curious than you are, but Daphne doesn't facilitates.
Him and Sirius will bond over it.
Max really likes the giant squid, so, it's a possibility.
Not really...
Yup, but their relationship will not be well received.
I love it!
I'm very glad
This story is definitely an interesting story! I love this type of genre. I believe your work deserves bigger exposure. You're such a potential author! I hope you can gain millions of readers. May I know your social media or email? I want to keep your work updated and talk about any opportunity further.
Thanks, but I don't give out those type of informations.
I read the first chapter but I didn't really fancy the main story but the parts at the end of the chapters are amazing! I basically just read those parts by themselves and their so well made
You mean Alistair's parts? If yes, I always loved the Marauder era stories and I wanted to try it out. The idea of a fifth Marauder, always sounded interesting for me.
Great story. Though I noticed some typo/mistake. Mind if I help you fix them?
"...though she was exceptionally -suddle- about it."
Should be -subtle-
"...gardens on the Peverell Castle, which -homed- several rare plants."
Should be -housed-
"She then looked at the like"
Should be -lake-
Anyway, if it's not too much to ask, could you tell me if Peverell clan and characters from the flashback have any face claim of sort in your mind?
Thanks, grammar mistakes are on a all time high due to me being stuck on writing on a phone.
Face Claims are pretty complicated but...
Maxwell Peverell: Callum Wharry
Alistair Peverell: A young Charlie Hunnam (I saw a photo of him online of when he was 15 years old and it's literally how I imagined Alistair.)
Angelo Peverell: Malcolm McDowell. (He doesn't match much of Angelo's description but his character was completely inspired on the character Mick Travis from the Mick Travis Trilogy, which was played by McDowell so it just makes sense to me.)
