Chapter 4
"Sydney!" I yelled rushing to give my Alchemist friend a hug. "Man it's great to see you. What did you end up doing after Russia?" Excited now to have someone I semi knew close by, don't get me wrong my father and the Guardian where great company but Sydney was my age. We click, considering where two completely different people. Unquestionably I was the reckless outspoken, whiles Sydney was more reserved and wise. Sydney has many traits from what I picked up Russia, but from what I've gathered she is wise beyond her years.
"Well I'm glad to see your still alive." She chuckled pulling away from me, setting her suitcase on the floor "I assumed you completed your goal, I haven't seen any recent reports about any of your kills?"
"Well about that.." Chuckled nervously, running my fingers through my hair. "Failed miserably, so I'm kinda laying low until I can deal with my issue."
"You know I swear since I've met you, you're like a bad omen when it's Strigoi related." She teased, reminding me of the few incidents in Russia.
"Yeah, yeah laugh it up." I pouted. "When things get settled, I'll fill you in on the details lat ..."
"As much as I like watching you ladies catch ups we've got a tight dead line, as well as a cockroach to squash," Abe interrupted, speaking in his business like tone, Sydney and I turned to face his bored figure lounging on the chair, in a casual Abe way.
"Oh right, sorry.." I rambled, before shutting up.
Shooting me a pointed look, Abe emerged from his head as Sydney held a folder out to him.
Taking the folder, Abe smiled pleased who's his results. "So what did you find on dear Marcus Oliver, Miss Sage?'' He asked, not bothering to read the filed he passed to Guardian Pavel.
"According to the Alchemists records, Marcus broke into warehouses six and stole highs classified documents. We believe the documents stolen may have to do with the slight increase of strigoi in the Washington area." She explained, efficiently.
What in Washington, that's to close to Lissa for comfort! Is it Dimitri? Did I make a hasty decision to leave Lissa and everyone that love, is it going to put them in even more danger?
"Old man, if there is an increase already in Washington this is bad, this not a good thing, knowing Dimitri he is planning something bad and St Vladimir needs to be warned."I interrupted, panic started to creep in. " There is absolutely no way they can take another hit from strigoi after the attack a few months ago." I warned, now feeling guilty more than ever knowing my friends are back there, while I ran away all the way here in Utah. Muttering a few curse words in Turkish, Abe instructed Pavel to warn the academy.
Finishing his call with headmistress Kirova then whispering a few words to Abe, nodding not diverting his attention while Sydney was disgusting information on this Marcus Oliver. " Well according to these records they where highly classified document your Queen gave to the Alchemists to hide and archive. "So what where exactly in the documents?" Abe asked.
"What was so secret that Tatiana hid them with the Alchemists."
Shuffling through the documents, Sydney passes Abe a sheet of paper for him to read. Watching Abe read, the whole room was quiet waiting for Abe's reaction. " So this is what they stole!" Abe laughed, causing everyone to gap as Abe acted out of his tough exterior. "Someone wanna fill us in on what's going on ?" I asked, clearly confused on what my half sane father is rambling on about.
"What particular day did this incident happen?"
"Four days ago, two am vampire time, why?"
" What else is there to know about our human friend?" Abe not answering her question.
"Marcus is thirty-four, he was born and raised in South Carolina." She spoke, like she memorized it. "Record is squeaky clean, a fiancé, white picket fence and a fantasists job but..." Sydney, " Unfortunately a few years ago, with a lot of digging I found a report from an Alchemist, she wrote that Marcus came home to find his fiancé dead. Alchemists reported it was a Strigoi attack."
"After that he disappeared, well until now."
What is Marcus after? What could those books be about, and why where they so important that Queen Tatiana hid them with the Alchemists? So many thoughts are running through my head. Something is not right, I have a really bad feeling about this ordeal. In this situation I will go with my gut and something tells me this is either going to be a direct hit to the Moroi world or he is working with Dimitri, either way I can't sit here and do nothing.
"What if I go track him down?'' I blurted out, before my brain clicked on what came out of my words. Taking a seat on the double bed, the ache in my feel where starting to distract me.
Everyone looked at me confused." Absolutely not!" Abe yelled, clearly not happy. "You are under lockdown young lady, you got an crazy obsessed Strigoi on the hunt with god knows how many other strigoi following him,"
Now I was really feeling guilty, because he was absolutely right. Never considering the effect of my actions that I take, I also sometimes forget to get out of the guardian like role. I particularly forget to stop and think how it effects about my family and friends, as well as my goal. "Above all your mother fucking scares me, so if you got hurt she would kill me." He spoke with frustration, clearly not wanting Janine Hathway's wrath.
"I'm sorry, I'm used to taking charged I sometimes forget to think of my actions. Few days already with you and I'm already running into danger"I apologized with a light joke.
"Yeah, your definitely our child." He groaned, a light smirk forming on his face. What really got me was the look on Guardian Brendan and Jacksons face, instead of there usual guardian mask they where clearly shocked about this whole conversation. "Any ways back to the important matters.''Abe spoke in his get to business voice. While he did that I pulled my phone out and texted Lissa.
'I miss you! Please don't be mad at me.' I wrote, hoping silently that she would answer back.
Understanding what she felt from last time I left her behind, I couldn't blame her for not her a promise then breaking it, I would give her all the time she needs.
Just as I was going to get back in on Abe and Sydney's mission, Lissa responded to my text. 'I miss you to! Why didn't you come to me before you left, you could have at least said goodbye! I love you but that was selfish.'
Ouch! Though I did deserve it.
Typing up a storm I replied, baring my thoughts and feelings.
'You know me more than anyone, If I where to say goodbye I would have either caved and stayed or I would have took you with me. Which I can't, if I can't bring him back I couldn't survive losing you if you got caught in the cross hares between him and I. Please understand leaving you on book duty was only for your safely and my sanity, plus your education is more important than mine. You're my best friend, other than Dimitri you are the only one who holds my heart, you guys are what holds my soul together. But if I don't finish this I will feel complete, I will spend the rest of my life wondering if I could fix him or worry he will get me or the ones I love.'
Chewing my nails nervously, I waited for her reply.
'I understand. Please be careful and check in often, even if I can't tell when your I'm my head it's nice to think you're here with me even if not in person.'
My heart ached, not even two years ago we where back in Portland happy and careless now I'm stuck here with problems coming out of my ass. Never will I regret Dimitri, I loved him to much to ever think that but live was so much easier before coming back to St Vlads.
'Of course, always. How's Adrian?' Hoping I made the right choice to ask.
"Oh Rose, he's drunk and broken. After, you left he broken down and has been talking one can seem to talk sense into him.'
Instantly making me feel worse. Damn it, I should have done it in person I am such a coward, all because I didn't wanna hurt his feelings.
'I'll speak to him, just give me time.'
' Christian's here I gotta go, please be careful. Will message you soon, to chat and updates on spirit. Xoxo'
Sending her my love I quickly text Adrian that I was sorry for hurting him, that I understand if he hated me. With no response, I sighed and decided to get up to listen in.
Getting up from my seat my vision started to spin, taking a step forward I stumbled forward, before I could fall faced down guardian Pavel catches me.
"Must of stood up to quick," I mumbled weakly, in Pavel's arms. "Sorry." Right now sleep was what I really desired in this moment.
