Chapter 5

" Finally!"I yelled from the back of the suv with exhaustion. After the meeting with Sydney last week, Abe the guardians and I have been travelling from location to location. While Sydney was finding more dirt on the Marcus guy, Abe and I decided to lay low at one of his 'houses' until then.

Passing through the metal gates, Guardian Pavel pulled the vehicle in the gigantic garage, which was filled with Sydney's wet dream. Car after car parked side by side, ranging from old vintage cars, imported cars to even newer style cars.

Of course Abe had it all, the man is a show off.

"Hey, Miss Hathaway," Guardian Brendan asked, breaking my attention from the neatly display of cars. "When we get settled in, how about you and I get a little hot and dirty." He grinned wiggling his eyes brows at me. Wrapping his arm over my shoulder I leaned in a quick position and flipped him over my shoulders, right onto his ass in seconds.

" The only hot and heavy your getting is when I kick your cocky ass to the ground ." I grinned back at him while walking away from him, Guardian Brendan finally got up, only still clearly shocked from my quick reflexes. "That was your first and only warning ."I warned with a glint of a smirk. Walking away from the stunned guardian, I walked by and high-fived a laughing Guardian Jackson, who was clearly enjoying my amazing skills I had learned from Dimitri.

" You have no idea how happy I am to see that." She howled with more fits of laughter."He's always had that cocky attitude ever since I've met him."

Guess he wasn't expecting that from a novice, served him right.

"Well I've been in his spot once, only I was two years behind on training." Remembering the times Mason and Eddie would kick my ass in training after I returned to St Vladimirs, lord that seems like it was yesterday.

Only then,Mason was still alive and Dimitri was a dhampir, the only thing I had to worry about was passing my classes and getting stronger.

"Two years! I don't believe that for a second, especially with how fast you put Brendan on his back."Guardian Jackson replied, staring at me in disbelief.

"No really. I've only been training since October. Prior to that, the last time was two years before that." I explained, a little embarrassed about my two year hiatus.

"Without my mentor I wouldn't be where I am today."I praised of what left of Dimitri I I spoke was the truth, without Dimitri I never would have been this advanced, even surpassing all the novices.

Without him I would have probably still been partying my days away until graduation, or in a blood whore community.

"Damn if you can get that advanced in less than a year, maybe your mentor could show me a thing or two." Guardian Brendans voice spoke in a hopeful voice.

"Unfortunately it won't happen, I'm sorry but he isn't around anymore." Turning around hoping they didn't see my hurt facial expression, I needed to find an excuse to get away from them.

I especially didn't want to explain the dynamics of my relationship with Dimitri, quickly bidding my goodbye and exit the garage to find Abe.

After a few twist and turns down long empty halls, I finally spot Abe ending his phone call.

"So old man, while Sydney is out doing whatever she is doing, what exactly is our plan until she returns?" I asked, knowing patience was definitely not my strong suit. Being cooped up isn't my favourite thing either, a girl just wants to get her shit together. Besides who has time to sit and ask questions later, I've got a mission to accomplish.

"We are to remain here, until Sydney is finished with this regions Alchemist headquarters."Abe answered vaguely.

"After that, we will move on to our next location."Again with his annoying answers.

"So what exactly is the importance of what Marcus stole." Again asking another question. "Also, why exactly did he steal it."

"That's for me to know," He taunted with a grin, while we where walking into the kitchen from a long hallway. "and for you to not worry about. Just relax and focus on your schooling and training with Pavel.. When the time is right I will need you to be ready for Belikov. Tatiana made it clear you will graduate if only Pavel and Guardian Croft approves, so let Sydney and I worry about Marcus."

Why would they be worried about some old books and documents? Honestly, the way he said it bothers me. I only wanted to know, but now this 'secret' makes me want to know more.

What was so important about some old books, that Abe couldn't tell me. Why is he diverting my attention to studying and training.

Something didn't seem right, I felt like there was a lot more going on which made me nervous.

"Whatever,"I grumbled, obviously not going to get an answer from him. " Where will I be staying? I would like a hot shower and a nap."

"I'll show you the way ."Pavel spoke, directing me to the grand stair case. " You will be staying close to Guardian Brendan and Jackson as you are here with your father, they will be your guardians."

Before I could protest, Guardian Pavel continued. " Starting tomorrow you and I will be starting your training. Over the course of your stay, you and I will be going over what you know and what you need to learn. When your not training your studying with Guardian Jackson, and or with your father going over your little strigoi problem." He instructed, guiding me down another long hall, then stopping at would be my temporary room.

"Weekends you are free from studies, other than training and you are not to leave the warded compound, do you understand."

" I understand." Trying to digest his rules as he opened the door to my room. Glancing around the large room at Abe's sophisticated taste, I found it to be incredibly beautiful, the white and gold accent complemented the open concept bedroom.

"This is your room, the bathroom is on your left and on the right is your walk-in closet." Pointing to the two doors. "We have full time staff, so if you need anything they should be around, if you can't find Abe or I." Guardian Pavel spoke, his formal voice explained. "Breakfast is at five am, training starts at six am sharp. Before I go look for your father, do you need anything before I go?

Shaking my head, I drop my bag on the King sized bed and explored the room. Pavel made his exit as he closed the door behind him . Stripping my clothes off, I walk into the expensive looking bathroom and turn on the shower.

Wow, I thought. This feels great.

Fifteen minutes later, I turn the shower off and stepped out. Grabbing a towel and wrapping it around myself, I make my way to my bag to find something comfy to put on, pulling a pair of sweat pants and one of Dimitris shirts I stole from the Academy. Pulling the covers down, I switched the light down and burrowed in a cocoon of softness and blankets. Next thing I know it my eyes became heavy, than the darkness followed soon after.

Another dream, I thought. What now?

"Little dhampir." Adrian's voice spoke from behind me. Turning around I got a good look at him, the poor guy was a mess. "Adrian I…" I mumbled nervously, not prepared to explain myself." Look I..." I managed to say before he cut me off.

"Save it." Shoving his hands In his jean pockets, his jade eyes full of hurt staring back at me.

"Lissa asked me to contact you, she said something about spirit and wanted you to know." He explained. " Just took me awhile to sober enough to dream walk since she couldn't get ahold of you."he shrugged, flicking his hand to change the scenery, changing from my bedroom at Abes, to St .Vladimirs garden. "She mentions other things but couldn't say."

"Please let me apologize, I never wanted to hurt you Adrian I'm sorry, I didn't want things to happen this way." I ranted on. " I know I promised to give you a chance but I couldn't lie and hurt you. I certainly didn't want to lie to you or myself. You are one of my best friends and you mean the world to me, I couldn't do that to you."

"You also shouldn't have done it over a letter Rose." Crossing his arms, clearly still pissed. " Did you even read what you wrote, because honestly a preschooler could have done a better job breaking up with someone ." Causing me to flinch.

"Dear Adrian.." Adrian spoke sarcastically, clearly going to throw my letter back at me. " As an unfortunate thing happened causing to me to leave. After Russia I promised to give you a chance but I can't and for that I'm sorry. Dimitri is alive and is even more menacing than before. I have to go, please don't find me it's not safe. One day you will find the right one, but unfortunately it's not me. One day I hope you forgive me. Rose."

"I'm sorry, I wish I could have done it proper but he threatened everyone I loves life." I felt hurt that even apologizing now made him more irritated.

"Your sorry? You broke my heart Rose, then ran off and left us with letters. How do you expect me to not be upset, you broke up with me over a letter." Adrians said, waving a spirit infused letter matching the one I wrote. But all I could focus on was the look of disappointed on his face, as It looked back at me. "Where your friends you should have came to us before you left, instead you ran off again."

"You know me, if I did that you would all have convince me to stay or worse come, and I can't risk your lives and for that I won't apologize for. No one knows Dimitri more than I when it comes to his Strigoi side. Particularly the way he thinks, he knows most of my weaknesses, he knows you guys are one of them."

"Okay I get it." Adrian caves , causing my heart to soar but ache. This amazing royal Moroi was in love with me, and I continuously chased after my older now undead lover, and I felt bad. Unquestionably apart of me wishes I could love him back, he was the type of man who shows people he doesn't care but always puts the people he loves first. Hell, he funded my Russia trip to kill Dimitri, that really shows the kind of man he is. Giving the woman he loved money to chase after her lover.

Admittedly I was to blame for doing this to him but something in my bones wants to chase Dimitri. The thought of not going after him didn't sit well with me, it made me feel restless.

Looking up to expecting to see a sad face, only to see the opposite , which shocked me a bit. Giving him an uncomfortable look, I began to fidget In my spot.

Adrians eyes were narrowing in at me, not really hinting what he was doing.

"Okay what is wrong?"Clearly confused. "Your freaking me out."

"Your aura.." He answered dazed, moving closer to get a better look at me. "Something different, something I can't quite figure out or explain. Usually your aura is clear with a bit of darkness from Lissa but this is different, It looks murky and disoriented. I'd say it looks mystified."

Making me even more confused, and uncomfortable like I was under a I started analyzing the pesky eww thoughts flooding my brain. Was there something wrong with me? Maybe it's the darkness I've been taking more often, mixed with the lack of sleep. Am I sick? Dhampirs don't usually get sick but it's not impossible.

"Haven't been sleeping well, maybe that's what it is ?" I guessed, not really sure what it could be. With the stress of Dimitri, and travelling with Abe, my body has finally took its toll.

Glancing at me for a few minutes, Adrian finally gave up. "Maybe, you should probably get some sleep, don't forget to contact Lissa when you awake, she is worried about you." he muttered, just as he was ending the spirit dream.

"Sleep well, little dhampir."

Was all I heard, as I fell into a deep slumber.
