A/N: This is a rather pointless oneshot, but I was in an angsty mood, and I felt like writing. Anyway, please REVIEW!
Melancholy
She was lonely.
That's why people go to Joe's.
To drown their worries in alcohol.
To find comfort in another lonely soul.
Too bad it never really works out.
No matter how many times she came here, no matter how many guys she went home with, the truth was, she felt the same.
Lonely. And sad.
Her mother didn't love her. Ellis Grey was a cold woman. She cared more about her work, more about the hospital, than she ever did about her own daughter. She cheated on her husband, and then kicked him out because he didn't stand up to her. She was a brilliant woman, and a brilliant surgeon. But she wasn't a brilliant mother.
When she told her mother she was going to be a surgeon, her mother doubted her. Mothers aren't supposed to doubt you. They're supposed to support you, tell you they love you, brag about how wonderful their daughter is.
But her life was never how it was supposed to be.
Her father didn't want her. Thatcher Grey was weak. When his wife told him to leave, he left. When she told him to stay away from his own daughter, he obeyed her. He just went and started a new life, never even trying to stay in touch with his little girl.
She'd gone to go see her father. She'd made the effort. He hadn't embraced her. Maybe he was shocked. Maybe he was scared. But the truth remained that he hadn't tried to see her. He had a new family now. His new wife loved him. His daughters adored him. And she was the ugly half-sister, who just made everyone's lives more difficult.
Fathers are supposed to protect you.
Hers didn't.
The man she loved was married. And he picked his wife over her.
She couldn't compete with Addison Shepherd. Addison Shepherd was perfect. She always looked gorgeous. She was an accomplished surgeon. And she was nice. She was impossible to hate, but so easy to envy.
And there she was; the lowly intern. She wasn't a glamorous beauty. She wasn't a brilliant surgeon.
She was nothing, really.
She was Ellis Grey's daughter. Everyone thought she was so lucky. If only they knew.
She was Derek Shepherd's ex-mistress. Everyone whispered about her, felt sorry for her.
Or maybe they just loved the gossip.
She downed another shot.
Alcohol numbed the pain.
But it didn't fix it, and in the long run, it really only made it worse.
She was still lonely.
A/N: Again, please REVIEW! It would make me very, very happy.
