Commoner
As Hermione, Ron and Harry walked out of the great hall after breakfast Draco Malfoy and his cohorts brushed past.
"Don't you hate it when dirt gets in your way" drawled Draco, "now my robes stink like a mudblood"
Ron and Harry glared then looked to Hermione with worry, instead of finding her upset or angry they saw the look that only a woman can get, the vengeful vindictive scorn that no man wishes upon him.
"Master Malfoy" she drawled back, with the beginnings of a smirk.
He turned sneering at her, "You don't have the right to address me"
She simply smiled gracefully at him, "Master Malfoy there is no doubt you have been brought up with class and it is obvious from you parents that you have only the best of breeding" she said using her bossy voice, which incidentally was also her snob voice.
"ah so you finally noticed, I have everything you don't" he said causing a ripple of laughter though his groupies.
"and apart from the slight rudeness you'd be all but perfectly reared" she shot at him quickly
"what point are you trying to make mudblood"
"well, it does beg the question, why would someone so perfectly bred speak like a commoner?" now she openly smirked, looking as pleased with herself as Draco usually did.
His face dropped, "what?"
"the way you talk my dear Master Malfoy, your accent, you might as well have been brought up by a farmer and his dog rather then anyone of any sort of standing" she gave a brief and delicate snort, "even the Weasley's talk with more class then you"
Anger crept onto his face as he understood what was being said, "how dare you insult me like that!"
She waved a finger in his face, "uh, uh, Draco it's pronounced, 'How dare you insult me like that'"
His face went red and he puffed out his chest, "regardless of how I speak mudblood I'm still worth a damn more then you!"
"isn't it strange, Ronald how when you're right people get so touchy" her voice held a nastiness close to Snape's but with the high self regard of Draco's father (1), Ron stood silent, scared of the way Hermione was acting.
Dracos' eyes darted around as he tried to think of something, anything, to come back with, "I'm not touchy mudblood, I'm still just disturbed that my robe stink like you!"
She leaned close to him, "what was that Draco, I just can't understand a word you're saying when you speak like that"
He turned and stormed off, leaving his escorts in a flurry as they were torn between following him obediently, asking what she said and defending his honour on an issue they didn't understand. In the midst of this Hermione looked back at her companions and said sweetly, "coming" with that she sauntered off towards the common room.
Ron poked Harry and indicated Hermione. Harry shrugged, "uh, Hermione?"
"Yes, Harry" she smiled happily at them, but something vicious still clung to her face.
"uh…I mean what was that all about?" he didn't want to bring out the beast again.
"I can't believe you never noticed his appalling accent, victory" she walked through the portrait and sat in one of the chairs.
"and…?" Asked Ron, still completely confused.
"those with class know the only way to get to other class is by insulting what they hold dearest" she smiled, "their status"
AN: Ok, so this was purely based on the movies ok? I have read the books and stuff but you don't really hear things in a book do you? Anyway, if you listen Tom Felton doesn't really have the 'rich snob' accent. It's true! While Hermione's is well covered when she becomes bossy you hear it! So I was sitting listening as I do and it just occurred to me 'while his dad sounds snobby Draco just sounds…common!' not that it's a bad thing! It makes him even sexier! No? you're gonna hurt me? ok…RUN!
