Turning the page in her book, Liz shifted in her seat as the sound of a keycard being swiped caught her attention.
Glancing at her watch, she frowned superficially realizing how close to lunchtime it was.
She arrived back at the suite over an hour ago. Susan had shanghaied her and a few more ladies for a fun excursion into the nearest large city. The profitable trip had shortened Liz's gift list tremendously.
She was sure Red would have been back by the time she returned, but all was quiet when she entered the suite.
She hoped the long hours spent in the meeting did not bode ill for any business dealings Red hoped to secure.
"Everything all right?" Liz set her book aside, for it was Red, himself, who entered.
"Yes," Red sighed, sitting a file folder aside, "just some shipping business we're handling next week, I suppose."
Removing his jacket and tie, he draped them on a nearby chair. Liz smiled at the picture presented. Red looked quite handsome standing there with only his vest in place as he rolled his sleeves to a more agreeable level.
"So," Liz stood, draping the throw over the back of the chair, "can't get a yea or nay?"
"Aligning everyone's schedules is always a Crapshoot," Red explained, releasing the top buttons of his shirt. "I..." he sighed, kinking his neck, "I'll bother with it later."
Linking his arms about her waist, Red smiled, "Enough talk of business," he said. "I have a surprise for you."
Liz grinned, playing with the buttons on his vest, "You do, huh?" she brightened her mood for he seemed in need of a lift. "I like your surprises."
"Do you?" he took her hand, leading her towards the door. "...Good."
"Wait," she gestured aimlessly, "do I need to grab anything or change..."
"We're not leaving the property." Red assured, tugging her along with him. "Besides, you look beautiful." he said, having noticed the woman's choice of style.
Red glanced down at Lizzy's maritime inspired dress and sandals, smiling.
Strolling hand in hand through the lobby, Liz smiled at other guests she met over the last couple days, even offering to meet later with a couple ladies in passing.
"You're getting around more than I do," Red chuckled, leading her through the front doors arm in arm.
"What do you mean?" she asked.
"I don't think even I've met those women," he gestured to the ladies in question.
"Oh, well," she shrugged, "they're here with the husbands so... you've probably met them."
Red shrugged the matter aside, "As long as you're having fun."
Nodding his thanks to the valet, Red guided Lizzy to a large SUV which was just pulling curbside.
"I thought you said we weren't leaving the property?" Liz stated her confusion, climbing into the lush leather seats, glancing about her new surroundings.
"We aren't." Red said, sliding into the driver's seat. "We're taking this," he waved a hand about the luxury vehicle, "because it's a bit of a drive."
"...But I won't be getting muddy today." she sent him a warning scowl.
Red chuckled, "No mud on the agenda."
Once situated, Red pulled away, driving through the parking lot before hitting a well kept gravel path leading into the thicket surrounding the hotel.
"Are we going to the lake again?" Liz smiled, threading her fingers through Red's.
"I thought a more secluded spot would better suit our agenda." he said, stroking his thumb along her fingers, "It's very pretty though, you'll like it." he hoped, at least.
Smiling happily, Liz checked out the passing scenery, occasionally pointing out wildlife or some other interesting thing that caught her attention until Red pulled off into a thick, wooded underbrush.
"Oh... wow." she gasped her joy at the sight which greeted them.
Red slowed the vehicle, easing through the area, giving the woman time to bask in her new surroundings. Lizzy's face showed her awe and delight, the blue eyes flitting about the wondrous sights to be had.
"It's like a magical forest!" she voiced her enchantment.
A natural arch of trees encircled the drive, allowing only slivers of tinkling sunlight through the thick brush.
Lush honeysuckle and startling green flowering ivy in yellows, blues and deep purples hung in delicious smelling cascading drapes everywhere she looked.
Sitting up in her seat, Liz caught sight of a babbling brook winding about the lush greenness before it disappeared under a rustic bridge just to her right.
The place honestly looked like something from a storybook fairytale-land.
"It-It's like a Monet painting!" she stared transfixed, mouth agape. "Please tell me there's a troll under that bridge." she tittered her delight.
"Glen couldn't make it this year," Red said, shutting the car down, "mostly cause no one invited the agitating asshole. So sorry, no bastard goblin."
Opening their doors, Liz inhaled the sweet aroma of the flowers and wheat grass, feeling instantly at ease.
"I bet guests love coming here." she grinned, listening to the water bubbling over the rocks below. "This is simply enchanting, Red!"
"You have to reserve the space." Red said, grabbing a basket from the back. "I know people, who know people, of course."
"You mean, we're the only ones allowed out here?" she waved a hand about the serene space, captivated the spot would be an oasis for just the two of them.
"For the next few hours, it's ours." Red nodded, then shrugged. "Unless I call and expand the time."
"What happens if you don't?" her curiosity piqued.
"They'll send someone to check on you," Red said. "Make sure you didn't fall or drown or..." he rolled his hand, "get sexually accosted by an attractive, older... distinguished gentleman."
"Hey, you fit that bill." she teased right back.
Sitting the basket down on the provided table, he pulled a small blanket free, draping it over the tabletop.
"All except that attractive part." he quipped.
"I wholeheartedly disagree with that statement!" Liz lifted stylish brows.
"Just over there," he gestured, modestly ignoring the statement, "is a natural mineral spring. When guests utilize the space, they appreciate... privacy."
Giggling, Liz scrunched her nose, "In other words, they get naked."
"Best way to enjoy the experience," he sighed at the remembrance, "that heated water on bare flesh... it works wonders on tight muscles."
"Red Reddington," Liz smiled, sitting down at the table, "are you telling me you went au naturale out here in the wilds?"
Pulling their wine free from its holder, Red opened it to allow it time to breathe. "Many times, actually."
"Were you alone?" she lifted curious eyes.
"I was, yes," he replied seriously, then offered a teasing smile. "I'm not now... however, am I."
"I'm not that type of girl," she assured. "But nothing is written in stone, remember."
"Not likely to forget that cryptic footnote..."
Opening the basket, Red removed sandwiches secured in brown butcher paper and twine, cold pasta, fruit salad and an assortment of cheeses.
"This is the most charming and romantic thing you have ever done." Red's effort delighted her.
Unbuckling their plates and flatware from the lid, Red smiled as he glanced up to find Lizzy luxuriating in the aura of the soft gurgling of the water beside them.
"I didn't realize how hungry I was," Liz dished food onto their plates as Red poured the wine. "...This all looks delicious."
As they ate their meal, they chatted about their surroundings and Liz commented about how wonderful lunch tasted, even dishing up seconds of the cold pasta.
"I love picnics." she smiled. "Everything always tastes so good outdoors, don't you agree?"
"While no one can equal Nora's culinary expertise," Red sipped his wine, "I have to hand it to Mark's chefs... they have outdone themselves today."
"How much longer do we get this spot?" Liz smiled, draining her wine glass.
"Is something amiss?" Red glanced at his phone."Are we going to eat and run?"
"I want to stay forever!" Liz eagerly pushed from her seat, holding her hand out for Red's. "Now, show me this natural hot spring."
Red relaxed, sensing the woman was content. Opening the back hatch, he grabbed a bag before guiding Lizzy down a footpath.
She gasped her awe as they stepped through a thicket to find a break in the canopy, right over the peaceful and tranquil pools so serenely awaiting their arrival.
"There's a waterfall." Liz beamed, taking in the crystal aquamarine waters, cascading down a six-foot high rock ledge basin.
"Ah," Red breathed a welcoming sigh at the sight, smiling his relief, "just as I remembered it."
The waterfall flowed freely, feeding the natural spring below.
A surge on the opposite side of the pond rushed over a natural rock facing into another pond slightly lower in elevation.
Overflow from both ponds fed the babbling brook which lazily curved about the soft, rolling hills and under the bridge… before disappearing around the bend.
"This is so tranquil," Liz sighed, amazed by God's natural filtration system at work.
"Mark once explained an offshoot from a nearby lake replenishes these pools," Red said. "He enlisted specialists to ensure the safety of the minerals in the water... but I confess, I tuned out a minute into the explanation."
"Why?" Liz tittered softly, aghast by the news, "You're normally all about gathering obscure facts."
Liz followed the man as he walked to a shaded area and unfurled a large beach blanket, laying it along the water's edge.
Sitting on a waterfront bench, Red removed his shoes and was pleased Lizzy eagerly joined him, kicking her sandals aside.
"Be that as it may," Red granted, "I wished to come here and relax, not ponder how it came about... just that it is." he continued. "I retained one interesting bit of information, however."
"Which was..." Liz was admittedly interested.
"In Mark's research of the place," Red said, "he learned people inundated the place around the turn of the century for medicinal purposes." he smiled. "It was quite the place for all the movers and shakers of the day."
"...So, not much has changed." Liz smiled warmly, struck by the comparison.
Personally, she knew just the sight and sounds of this oasis relaxed her, she could just imagine how wonderful the water itself felt.
Red shifted his eyes as the woman stood, pulling her thigh-length dress off overhead without a moment's hesitation.
His breath caught for the overhead sun peeking through the treetops cast warm hazy beams across the woman's soft skin.
Those delicious pink nipples and dark thatch of hair between Lizzy's legs appeared to gleam behind the lace of her bra and panties.
Draping the dress over the bench, Lizzy giggled as she pulled enthusiastically at her bra straps.
It tickled her to think, just a short time ago, she would have been nervous about disrobing in the great outdoors, but now... she couldn't help but bask in how wonderful the sun felt on her bare flesh.
"I'm going in," she flung the bra to the side, "and so are you, so strip."
Red's gaze dropped from her creamy breasts to the tiny panties sitting on her hipbones.
"If you don't mind, I'd like to continue enjoying the scenery," Red waved a hand to the beauty before him.
Smiling wickedly, Liz hooked her thumbs in the delicate straps sitting on her hips, pushing them down ever so slowly.
Red watched Lizzy lower the thin material down her legs, then flick them from around her ankles with ease. His smoldering eyes drifted slowly upward to the dark patch of heaven presented to him.
"You can just sit there and look or..." she turned her back, shimmying her bottom just enough to garner Red's attention before stepping into the warm water.
"Or... what?" Red fixated on the water closing in around the woman's legs and ass.
Elizabeth glanced back over her shoulder, her long hair cascading down the creamy expanse of her back. The woman's seductive stare and pink cheeks beckoned the man. The backdrop of green vines framing her nudity, enticed his inner imaginings.
The free flowing water and slate backdrop added to the mysteriousness of the setting.
He was having difficulty concentrating, so enchanted with Elizabeth's free-spirited joie de vivre.
"Or get in here and touch me," she turned about, her breasts bobbing in the water, "...anywhere you want."
Holding the woman's eyes, Red slowly popped the buttons on his vest as he stood upright, shrugging the light linen from his shoulders.
"...Anywhere I want, you say?" he reached for his slacks, releasing the catch on his belt.
Taking a calming breath, Red willed his cock to behave as Lizzy purposely lowered her eyes to his movement.
"That's what I said... sailor."
Dipping into the blue depths, Liz shivered her delight as the hot water trickled down her back.
Red's heart beat hard in his chest as the woman lifted her arms, giving him a teasing peak of her tight nipples as she smoothed the wet strands of her dark hair back from her face.
"...Anywhere," she confirmed, closing her eyes to the radiating warmth surrounding her, "...at all."
Liz smiled as she heard the heavy latch of Red's belt hit the bench behind him, followed by the distinct sound of his zipper falling.
Opening her eyes, Liz felt her center flare to vivid life as sight of the honey-colored hair covering Red's chest came into view.
The soft pelt traveled across his torso, down to his groin. The man's shaft hung thick and heavy between his large thighs as he stepped naked down into the heated pool.
"You really should walk around like that more often," Liz stated her opinion, not at all hiding her appreciation for God's handiwork.
"Just in our rooms, you understand." she cautioned. "I have enough trouble with females where you're concerned."
Chuckling, Red dove under the water, coming up just inches from Lizzy's position.
"On our return to the hotel," Red wiped the water from his eyes, "we'll pitch the idea to Mark he should tout this a nudist resort... should increase revenue."
"God knows, Francis would buy in," Liz muttered.
Glancing to the full breasts bobbing sensually against his chest, Red cupped the full orb, "On second thought," he stroked the tiny peak with a tender forefinger, "never mind... no one is allowed to gaze upon such beauty but me."
"Are you saying we can't attend next year if Mark changes venues?" Liz moved closer into his touch, a questioning look on her pretty features. "Don't I get a say?"
"...No," the man grumbled, wrapping his arm about her waist, tugging the lithe body tightly to his. "We'll go somewhere you have to keep your clothes on... in public, at least."
"You're awfully stingy," Liz withheld her smile, settling loose arms around Red's shoulders.
"I am," Red freely admitted.
"So... where would we go?" Liz wondered.
"Antarctica." Red decided.
She ran an exploring hand down his shoulder, over Red's pectoral and torso. "That means parkas all around." she pouted.
"I enjoy looking at pretty things I possess." her eyes twinkled mischievously. "You'll be all covered up."
"So will you," Red grunted a pleased sound, lazily floating them about. "A sentiment we agree on then?"
"We agree on many subjects," Liz countered, "or are beginning to... we even share the same moral code."
"Some would say we're the polar opposites where moral codes are concerned, Lizzy." he was perplexed.
"I don't think so," she shrugged. "Granted, your kill count is a little on the high-side," she said, "but I'm slightly younger, so I may catch up to you at some point."
"I highly doubt that," Red held his smile, "but I admire your tenacity to set goals in life." he scowled. "You don't enjoy taking lives, so why the bravado?"
"Oh, but you do?" she countered. The man remained moot on the subject.
"Anyway, as I was saying," she searched for the proper words, "yes, you have killed people, but just between me and you," she leaned, whispering, "they were horrible, disgusting people out to harm others and most likely deserved what life dished up for them."
Red... actually couldn't argue with that. Ironically enough, the only time he believed he may have killed an innocent was during his time in the military.
During an intense firefight in Libya, as sides tore into one another to gain dominance, a civilian had attempted a run for more safe surroundings... but fell.
To this day, Red wondered had he or the enemy inadvertently killed that man.
Shaking off the memory, Red returned his interest where it belonged.
"How the hell do we always seem to fall into discussing the most disturbing subjects?" he demanded an answer.
"We're quirky that way." Liz shrugged nonchalant shoulders.
"Silas is right," Red leered playfully, "you've become bloodthirsty... and it's admittedly attractive as hell."
"You do break law right and left," she continued after a brief hesitation, another thought occurring.
"...I bend laws," Red corrected, then shrugged when Lizzy gave him a scolding look, "or at least, that's my intent."
"If circumstances were different," she ignored the man, "I wholeheartedly believe you'd either still be in the military or law enforcement."
Again, Red couldn't really argue with her reasoning. He always assumed he would be career military.
"You're a good man, Red," she kissed his mouth, "whether or not you wish to admit it to yourself."
Running her hands along Red's back, she caressed the scarring so familiar to her now, giggling.
"I guess I can't blame you for not admitting it," her eyes flit over the man's serious expression, "it would be damning to your unprincipled and scornful reputation."
"...Yes, morals in my business are akin to a disease," Red sighed. "So if that, or the fact I enjoy bubble baths with brunettes, gets out to the general public... I'll know who to go hunting."
"...Silas?" Liz tittered gleefully as Red tweaked her side playfully.
Pushing off his body, she swam rapidly away from his vicinity... so hoping he would chase and capture her.
Enjoying a short cat-and-mouse game and frolicking in the water, Red finally timed his attack precisely, grasping his prey in his hold.
Lizzy's delightful peal of laughter echoed on the water as Red captured her ankle, easing the breathless woman back his way.
"Get that sweet little ass back here," he rumbled deeply, eyes fixated squarely on said ass.
Gathering the woman in his arms, Liz's laughing eyes flicked upward, instantly drowning in the dark blue intensity staring back at her.
The moment lingered as a quietness settled about them.
"Thank you for bringing me here," she hugged the man dearly, her legs wrapping around Red's waist to complete the connection, "...for swimming with me."
Red sighed his discord over that topic, shaking his head, "Lizzy, I'm sorry I–"
"This private oasis was... perfection." she smiled just for the man. "This was just what I wanted."
Red inclined his head, appreciating her understanding.
"I'm..." he sighed, silently confessing his reluctance, "I'm getting there, Lizzy."
"This is a compromise I can so live with," she smiled happily. She didn't pretend to not understand to what he alluded.
"Can you, really?" Red questioned, still troubled by his version of 'compromise'.
"It means a great deal you found a solution in order to share this moment with me," Liz planted a warm kiss on his mouth, "... that's what matters to me."
"Your entire life shouldn't revolve around acceptable alternatives and compromises." Red scowled his discontent, believing his words.
Liz frowned, tilting her head curiously. "If everything in life was on the straight and narrow," she said, "words like alternate and compromise wouldn't exist."
Red opened his mouth to offer a counter argument, but realized... the process to form one was difficult.
"Being in a relationship is all about finding balance with your partner." she said. "Or at least, I hope I understand that premise correctly."
"I agree, however," Red nodded slowly, digesting the words, "we're not discussing whether we'll compromise on a paint color or vacation spot."
"What's the difference?" honestly confused, Liz frowned.
Red fought to tamp down his frustration and keep his tone neutral. She wasn't understanding his point.
"There was no compromise," he reminded sternly. "I didn't ask your input."
He sighed heavily, disturbed by his tactics now.
"I simply sought an alternative, one I hoped you found acceptable, which allowed me to continue concealing a physical imperfection."
"A physical imperfection?" the term left Liz perplexed. "You could just as easily have a phobia of large crowds or an allergy to shellfish," she countered.
Red's brows furrowed, confused by the comparison.
"Are you suggesting, were I to accommodate those issues, it would upset the balance of who we are?" Liz asked.
He suddenly recalled back in high-school, his girl-friend had an allergy to shellfish. He had gone out of his way to make sure none came within her vicinity; even going so far as to not eat seafood of any kind, though he often craved the delicacy.
"...Well, no," Red quietly admitted.
"Why this," Liz lovingly caressed his back, "is any different in your eyes, I have no idea?"
"It keeps me from spending quality time with you." Red argued.
"Does it?" Liz pointedly looked at their surroundings.
"You know what I mean," Red huffed indignantly.
"No," Liz disagreed, "I don't know what you mean."
Red shook his head at the willful woman.
"Were you to ask," she arched a brow, "which you haven't..."
Red had the grace to look contrite for once again assuming Lizzy's requirements.
"If I had the choice between a pool filled with a dozen people..." she gave the man a reprimanding look, "or being here in this gorgeous, private setting, skinny dipping alone with a really attractive, distinguished gentleman... which one do you think I'd pick?"
Red shrugged, "How much is this guy worth?"
"Stop making light of it." Liz tsked. "Stay on topic."
Falling silent for a moment, Red absently caressed Lizzy's back, lost in thought.
"...Being with me," Red murmured quietly, "denies you the chance at normalcy... not only for this reason." he motioned restlessly to his scars.
"True," she closed her eyes, dipping her head back into the water, "it does."
Lowering troubled eyes, Red exhaled a sorrowful breath.
"...Thank God," Liz lifted her head from the warmth surrounding them, her eyes gentle on the man "... for magnificent wonders!"
Red's brow furrowed, stunned by the turn of the woman's thoughts.
"I didn't realize how utterly mundane normalcy could be," she grinned mischievously, "... until you brought me here."
Drawing herself closer, she draped her arms over Red's shoulders; her breasts naturally resting against his chest.
"Come on, think about it!" Liz tittered. "Aside from the excitement of never knowing when we'll need to go off at a moment's notice to go globetrotting and catch some bad guy..."
Red shrugged his brows, unaware Lizzy had felt like that about their work.
"How many people can say, they took off in a private jet to go on vacation and land at a five-star resort." she ticked off on her fingers. "Not to mention having the best food, service and a gorgeous suite awaiting their arrival," she sighed her bliss.
"And then... you reserve a natural spring for two at a moment's notice... just because that's the kind of man you are."
Red smiled slowly, realizing how exuberant Lizzy was about their time here.
"Life with you," she giggled merrily, "... it's certainly never boring."
"It's also very dangerous," Red hated to spoil the rapport building, but his doubts still lingered.
"Whatever," Liz scoffed. "I'm an FBI agent. The minute I get to work, my life's in danger."
"And being with me, it's a constant." Red said.
"Which is why I have a personal guard," she rolled expressive eyes, "bugging the ever living hell out of me, twenty-four, seven."
Scoffing her disgust, Liz held the man's eyes steadily, "Red, a woman that lived seven doors down from me was walking to the corner store and got hit by a car," she said. "She wasn't dating you, wasn't an FBI agent... yet, she still died."
Red remembered the incident well, for when he first heard of the news... he had believed it to be Lizzy.
"I'd say," Liz drew his attention, "I have a better chance at survival because of the cocoon you've swaddled me in."
"Swaddled is such a disagreeable word." Red scowled.
"I have a driver, a state-of-the-art alarm system, weapons out the ass, a safe room," Liz ticked off, ignoring the man "... hell, my guards have guards." she quirked a brow. "I think we're covered on this matter."
"...Does it bother you," Red needed to ask, "the constant surveillance."
"No," she replied without hesitation. "I used to feel bad for the guys, constantly having to watch over me." she admitted. "But I've got to know them now and don't think of it in those terms any longer."
She thought back on all the fun they had since she moved in with Red.
"I enjoy meals, playing games or just talking with them." the thought warmed her. "We're like a big, dysfunctional family."
"Emphasis on, dysfunctional." Red mused moodily.
Red knew Lizzy had grown close with the men, was even extremely fond of them.
"It was always just Sam and me over the holidays," she smiled wistfully. "We'd have a little gift exchange, eat a light meal... and enjoy the time off from school or work, granted."
Red fell silent, listening and visualizing the memory.
"And I loved it, our quiet time," she said, "but I'd watch the neighbors welcome all these people into their home," she closed her eyes, remembering that time, "and wonder what it'd be like to be surrounded by people who loved you."
Red's heart ached for the woman to have never experienced that in her life.
"Now... I know, because of you," her eyes glittered. "I got to experience a real life, Memorial Day barbeque party with friends and family." she bubbled joyously. "We'll get to have Thanksgiving, Christmas...New Year's."
Red's eyes softened on the woman and how excited she seemed by the prospect.
"I wouldn't have any of that... this," she waved a hand to it all, "...without you."
Thinking back to all that was said, Red had to admit... Lizzy had a point. Not so much the part about having the opportunity for extravagant vacations and holidays, but more so... her safety.
When married to Tom, all the guards could do was watch from afar. The guards had been down two blocks, out of sight, when Elizabeth had her altercation with the bastard. By the time they arrived, Lizzy was handcuffed to the staircase and Tom was fleeing the scene.
It had taken Dembe and Joe a good hour to calm Silas' temper for that incident.
Now, with them at arm's reach, the prospect of any real damage had lessened. Silas was right there at her side, as promised... keeping Lizzy safe, teaching her new tactics of defense.
Elizabeth was safer now than she had ever been.
Chuckling softly, Red smiled in an attempt to lighten his mood, "You forgot Halloween."
Liz gasped, her eyes lighting with excitement. "Oh, Red! We can like... have a party and dress up and hand out candy to the little ones!"
"Why don't we get through July fourth," he grinned when the woman perked up further, "and Labor Day first, hmm."
Curving his hand about her bottom, Red hoisted her higher, kissing the dip in her shoulder. "Or... just this moment."
Floating aimlessly, they fell into a comfortable silence, enjoying the quiet solitude afforded them.
Here, in their own private Eden, they felt the demands and pressures of the outside world crumble and vanish.
Inching his way back into the shade provided overhead, Red steadied them as his feet touched the sandy surface beneath them.
Smoothing Lizzy's dark strands back, Red captured her soft lips with his own, tenderly kissing the receptive mouth.
Cupping the woman's head in his palm, he angled Lizzy to his desired position, flicking a teasing tongue against the tantalizing pout of her mouth.
Opening for him, Liz's tummy fluttered as Red drew his tongue sensually against her own, asserting control of the passionate exchange.
Drawing the wriggling woman closer into his hold, Red grunted pleasurably when Lizzy whimpered into his mouth, a soft feminine sound which ignited his passion.
She would never get her fill of Red's kisses. He never failed to take her breath away during the much loved activity.
She adored how she could never predict what Red would do.
She often daydreamed of how softly he kissed her, as if she were the most precious, fragile object in existence... just seconds before Red's intense, ardent desire took hold, replacing the luxurious sweetness.
Surrendering herself to Red's love, she offered his lip a hesitant sweep, languidly teasing the man, as if unsure of his preference.
She learned quickly some tricks which never failed to push him closer to the edge.
Tentatively touching her tongue to his lips, Liz slowly mimicked his motions, earning a soft, pleasured grunt from Red's chest.
There were often times Liz truly believed Red could make her orgasm, simply by the sensation of his mouth moving against hers, the emotions he evoked were that powerful.
This was one of those moments...
Kneading Lizzy's bottom, Red curved his fingers inward, brushing the small puckering between her cheeks.
The woman stiffened in his hold, her breasts pushing firmly into his chest.
"You said," he rasped his involvement, "I could touch you anywhere,"
"Yes... touch me.." she whispered, wriggling her bottom firmly in his hold. She sighed her bliss as Red's large fingers pet her, soothing the already throbbing ache pulsing in her center.
Tracing the delicate line of her sex, Red unhurriedly stroked the woman until he felt a rush of heat coat his fingers. It amazed him, he could feel Lizzy's arousal over the water surrounding them.
"I want you in my mouth," he husk roughly against her lips. "I want to taste you." the man had dreamed of the act only last night, wishing to make it a reality.
Grasping her waist, Red lifted the woman to the blanket covered ground without delay.
Kissing and licking away the beaded water covering her legs, Red slowly followed as Lizzy gingerly slid back to more solid ground.
Biting at her lip, Liz moved provocatively, her eyes holding the man's seductively. Her gaze drifted downward to the thickening hanging heavy from his groin.
Her vision swam, her senses dizzied by the overpowering desire she felt for the man.
"I love you," she moaned melodiously as Red moved slowly up her body. His mouth and tongue exploring titillating diversions along the way.
Languidly lifting her arms for the man, Liz's eyes flickered over Red's form ambling over hers.
Kissing her damp neck, Red drew the woman tightly in his hold, closing his eyes to the sensations inundating him.
"...I love you." he chanted quietly, blindly kissing his way to her mouth.
"I want you so desperately," Red's husky tone titillated, heating the woman's core.. "Let me ease the ache..." he murmured against her swollen mouth.
Capturing her bee-stung lips, Red suckled the plump mouth between his lips, tasting his lover. His mouth ardently explored the sweetness of the surface offered.
"Let me love you..." he whispered his desperation.
Laying back into the blanket, Liz's eyes closed, allowing her legs to part without thought or hesitation.
Stowing the bags containing the remnants of their picnic and swim in the back, Red rummaged in the front seat, grasping the bags he sought.
Securing a sandal on her foot, Liz shared a secretive smile as the man approached, her eyes lighting on the bags in his hand.
"Are you like a Greek bearing gifts?" she sat up straighter. "I think you've done enough for one day." she sighed blissfully. "This has been... wonderful, Red."
She frowned slightly at the man, "There really is no need for anything more..."
She cursed softly when she knocked her other sandal out of reach. "Dammit, would you look at that." the woman sighed lightly, attempting to retrieve the wayward shoe.
Crouching before her, Red took the sandal in hand, slipping it on her tiny foot.
"Why, thank you, Prince Charming," she teased, her eyes once again falling on the objects now lying beside the man on the crisp green carpet of grass.
Fishing in the large bag, Red pulled a box free, opening it.
"Just like new," he offered a broad smile, holding her cleaned and sparkling jewelry aloft, presenting the treasure with a flourish.
"My necklace!" Liz gasped joyously, snatching the jewels from their resting place.
Red chuckled as the woman hastily secured it behind her nape before he could blink.
"They look so beautiful!" she smiled, fastening her bracelet in place.
Lifting them for Red to see, she swiveled her wrist; the gems sparkling in the low sunlight.
Clasping her necklace, Liz found her heart warm as the familiar weight settled back into place.
Since Red and Dembe gifted them to her, countless times throughout the day, Liz rubbed the gems for comfort and to center her thoughts. Being without them had left her feeling somewhat out of sorts.
Red's mouth twitched when the woman's shoulders eased from their tense perch, contented now that her worry stones were in their rightful place.
"Are you happy, Lizzy?" Red traced the jewel's winding path, a quietness in his tone.
Liz smiled, nodding without hesitation, "I'm very happy." her fingers fluttered to her neckline, thrilled to feel her center returned.
"Are you?" she asked the reactionary question, absently opening the next box.
Red grinned as Lizzy critically studied the beautiful piece with a trained eye, checking all was in order.
He huffed a quiet laugh when Lizzy pinched the sparkling diamond with her fingers, breathing a sigh of relief to find it fixed and sturdy.
The jeweler had done a fabulous job cleaning away the muck from their ill-gotten adventure in the mud.
The ring gleamed bright in the warm sun, strands of light bounced off the shiny bauble like the rays reflected off the waters below.
"I can honestly say," Red finally spoke, his voice startling the woman slightly. He brushed a delicate finger along her rosy cheek, his eyes softening, "this has been the most exhilarating and cherished two months of my life, Lizzy."
She leaned, kissing him softly, "Mine too..."
"I wish to celebrate so many more with you, baby..." Red tenderly kissed the winding path of Lizzy's necklace, nuzzling her soft skin.
"With that said," he began, lifting his eyes, "I want it to be with the understanding, when you put that ring back on... you have every intention of becoming my wife."
Gasping her shock, Elizabeth darted wide eyes to Red's placid ones, her mouth falling agape.
As the woman's body suddenly began to tremble, Red would have given anything to know if it was due to excitement... or fear.
Watching the man slowly lift her free hand, Liz clutched Red's fingers tightly for some kind of lifeline.
He reverently kissed the smooth expanse directly alongside her thumb, his own emotions in turmoil.
Gripping the decorative box, Liz desperately tried to work up enough nerve to speak, her entire system having shut down a few seconds back.
Turning the little hand in his, Red peppered Elizabeth's scar with small kisses, his breath warm on her skin. The simple act aided in controlling his nervousness and trepidation.
Elizabeth was so silent, shaking like a leaf. Was she wondering how to work up the nerve to offer the proverbial... No?
Shaking the negative thought aside, Red focused on the tiny trembling hand he held, soothing the woman's frayed nerves.
Liz's iron-like grip on the box in her lap loosened, her fingers coming to her equally trembling lips.
"R-Really?" she blinked past the haze which had settled about her brain, intently focusing on the man kneeling before her.
Red's insides convulsed as the woman's shimmering eyes flit hastily over his features, looking for any sign of jest.
He needed some kind of permanency... some reassurance the depth of his emotions were returned.
He scowled deeply, unable to read the woman's countenance.
"I can't bear the thought of continuing life without you by my side," Red looked deeply into the blue pools of emotion. "...Marry me, Elizabeth."
His tone was so earnest, his grip so steady... his eyes so beseeching, Liz felt the tears spill unchecked over the brims of her lids, onto the flushed, glowing cheeks.
She sniffled softly, her breath catching in her throat at the intensity of that compelling stare.
Reaching, her fingers cupped his cheek, the touch electrifying.
Her heart beat heavily in her chest when the man nuzzled into the affection, his eyes closing with relief having felt her gentleness.
Taking a steadying breath, Red opened his eyes once again, eagerly searching her face.
She tried so hard to form the words, but her mouth wouldn't cooperate. Her shaky gasps rushed out her dry mouth in stuttering breaths.
Gripping his hand in hers, Liz nodded jerkily, her eyes shining a brilliant radiance.
Red's hand instinctively squeezed hers in response to the gesture, holding himself in check.
"...'Lizabeth," Red breathed, gritting his teeth. He needed so badly to hear her say the words.
Nodding more emphatically, Liz sucked in a high, ragged breath. "...Y-Yes." she blurted a response, the octave far too high for her liking.
She controlled the urge to squeal, "...Yes," she managed more sedately, "Yes, of c-course."
The word rolled about on rapid repeat in Red's head until it was fairly screamed back at him as comprehension took full effect.
Elizabeth said... yes.
Biting her lip, the woman fought to control the emotion welling within her heart and the tears dropping steadily to her cheeks.
"...Yes," Liz repeated emphatically, "I'll marry you."
A hazy, dreamlike aura enveloped Red when the woman offered a dazzling smile, brightening the already magical atmosphere.
A rushing wave of relief traversed Red's frame, his skin erupting in gooseflesh. Funny how that was the only outlet available to release the overwhelming emotions inundating him.
Pushing at her thigh, Red frowned when Lizzy startled from his touch.
Hastily reaching, Liz grasped the box tumbling across her thighs, just catching it before it toppled to the ground.
Smiling, Red took the object from her hold, "I have a job to perform, don't I?"
Nodding eagerly, Lizzy's shining eyes avidly watched him take her left hand in his.
Her heart thudded like thunder, the sound of it deafening in her ears. Could Red hear it?
Situating the ring in his grasp, Red chuckled low in his chest, finding the woman's hands cool to the touch, where before she had been warm and toasty.
Her fingers visibly shook, betraying her nervousness and excitement.
"You're going to have to hold still, baby." Red teased adoringly, sensing her nerves were as shot as his.
"I can't help it!" Liz giggled nervously through a fresh wave of tears.
Poising the ring in place, Red sedately held Elizabeth's joyous gaze.
Liz forced her attention away, desperately wanting to see... to experience the most special moment in her life.
The ring slid into its rightful place on Liz's finger, with an effortless motion.
Both stared at the sacred sight for some long moments.
Once set, a comfortable silence fell between them, both feeling the full breadth of their achievement.
The ring she had worn for months now felt... different.
Its fit was at once both comforting and exhilarating. The tangible weight felt...right, as if it had always belonged there. It wasn't just an ornament... a showpiece to bandy about to appease the masses' expectations or curiosity.
It was a symbol of Red's love for her.
Placing a loving kiss on the token of his commitment to Elizabeth, Red took a moment to control the rapid beating of his own heart.
Liz stroked his head lovingly, grasping Red's hands in hers.
Once again easing between her legs, Red wrapped his arms about the woman, intent on continuing his original pursuit.
He scowled his discontent when Lizzy gasped, again backing away from his touch... more so, his intention to kiss the woman.
"... Wait!" she hastily commanded he listen.
A huff of amusement caught in his throat when he realized she was frantically putting herself to rights, swiping uselessly at her tear-stained face.
"I look like hell! I just know it!" she swiped vigorously at her eyes. "Don't look at me yet!"
Stilling her shaking hands, Red tenderly cupped Lizzy's face, his thumbs gently swiping away the free falling droplets before capturing her sweet mouth with his own.
His heart ached when the woman moved closer to him, her body wracked with tremors.
"Are you all right?" he murmured against her mouth.
"Yes..." Liz breathed airily, "yes..." she sighed her contentment, gingerly kissing him. "I have never been so... right."
Red smiled against the busy little mouth, getting lost in the soft caress for countless moments.
Searching her tear-filled eyes, his lit with pure... bliss. Pulling a soft handkerchief free, he lovingly blotted away the tears.
"You are the most beautiful woman I have ever known," he kissed her pert nose lovingly, "...mascara smudges and all."
The man took his time memorizing the amazingly stunning face.
"I love you..." he whispered, his warm eyes taking in the full scope of Elizabeth's expression.
The woman was so exhilarated; she vibrated with barely controlled energy.
Her expression alone spoke of how completely thrilled she truly was.
"Me too," she sighed blissfully, then realized her faux pas. "I mean... I love you... not me," she grimaced, "well, you know what I..."
Drawing the woman closer, Red placed his lips to Elizabeth's... effectively silencing the nonsensical string of words.
Even though Red would not divulge the contents of the other bag to alleviate her curiosity, expect to say...
"They're your anniversary gift... and, yes, you have to wait," Red had smiled, pulling her to the bench beside him, falling silent.
Liz cuddled against the man beside her, resting her head against Red's chest, listening to the steady beat of his heart.
Snuggling herself to his security, she smiled happily... thinking back on their afternoon thus far.
Never would she had believed such a wonderful day would end up so enchantingly... surreal.
It had been such an amazing surprise to share this quiet time with Red. That he had listened... and cared enough to fulfill a heartfelt wish, truly meant the world to her.
Liz had truly meant it when she said; the setting and privacy was perfection.
Little did she know, Red would top that perfection. But why that fact surprised her, she did not know.
Ever since their time in Las Vegas, she often daydreamed of how Red would propose...or if he would, but nothing she imagined came close to the reality.
Red's proposal was everything she wished for... her whole life. Intimate, romantic, private... astoundingly beautiful.
Once the question was posed; Red quietly allowed her time to process what he said, but also make sense of her own rapid-fire thoughts and chaotic emotional state.
Thinking back, Liz realized she didn't feel a nerve-wracking pressure or rush to answer.
The only emotions she could decipher at present were passion and love.
"There he is," Red murmured, kissing her forehead, jostling the woman from her thoughts.
Lifting her head from its resting place, she smiled, watching Dembe pull in alongside their vehicle, having rolled to a stop.
The man pushed from the car, looking between the couple questioningly.
"Is something wrong?" Dembe asked, cautiously approaching.
"No," Red smiled merrily, "in fact, everything is just fine, my friend."
Dembe smiled reflexively for Raymond's good mood.
"I asked Elizabeth to marry me," Red clasped her hand, "... and she has accepted." his gaze fell softly on the woman's face.
Dembe's face lit with obvious joy, "Congratulations, Raymond..." he grasped Red's hand, tugging the man into an enthusiastic embrace. "I know how much you wished for just such an occurrence."
Liz welcomed Dembe's embrace, his arms enveloping her in a gentle bear hug, "My warmest wishes, Elizabeth."
"Thank you, Dembe," she sniffled, hugging the man hard in return.
"You bring Raymond such hope and peace," he pulled back, smiling warmly. "You bring us all joy and light."
The men chuckled lightly as the woman flushed for the compliment.
"Stop... don't make me start up again," she teased. "I'm very emotional right now for some obscure reason."
Bringing Elizabeth close to his side, Red looked to his friend and confidante, a seriousness in his expression.
"We must begin planning now," Red said. "We have discussed this at length, I know. The contingencies must be in place to ensure Elizabeth's safety."
Dembe nodded agreeably, "I understand."
Liz frowned up at the man curiously. "...What are you talking about?"
"Sweetheart," Red rubbed her arm, "when the Cabal, or anyone for that matter, gets word we've married... they may see it as a threat and react."
Liz nodded slowly, following along so far.
"If they do," Red said, "I wish for you to be secure in a safe place until I–"
"No," Liz shook her head stubbornly, stepping from the man's side.
"Lizzy..." Red grasped her hand, "please see reason."
"Red, we're a team," Liz scowled. "We face them together or not at all."
"If that were only the case," he sighed wistfully. "I fear once we get married, they'll panic."
"So... let them." Liz's eyes blazed.
"Elizabeth," Dembe stepped, "our manpower at present may be no match for the Cabal forces."
Worrying her lip, Liz fought to control the sudden chaotic thoughts inundating her.
"Dembe, will you alert Mark we need the Springs a short while longer," Red asked of his friend, offering the man a discrete exit, should he want it.
Understanding the couple needed the privacy to talk, Dembe grasped Red's shoulder in a sign of solidarity.
"I will," he assured. "Take your time." he smiled kindly to a fretting Elizabeth, before taking his leave.
Liz watched the man pull from the private spot and disappear around the hedges before returning her interest to Red.
"...We... we could," she swallowed hard, "would you... rather not marry and just–"
"Absolutely not." Red snapped the stern reply. "We are getting married, that's final." he pointed a finger. "I'll hear no more on that subject, Elizabeth."
"Maybe we could have a quiet commitment ceremony," she negotiated, "we can exchange rings and vows... but we don't have to file paperwork." she continued. "Or... maybe we could use aliases."
Drawing the woman into his embrace, Red looked down at the forlorn face.
"We're getting married under our proper names," Red vetoed all other suggestions. "That is not up for negotiation."
"Red," Liz sighed her frustration, "you listen to reason!"
Searching the small face etched with concern, Red lay his forehead against hers, gathering his thoughts.
Both fell silent, overwhelmed by an array of emotions over the developing situation.
"Aren't you tired, Lizzy," Red murmured dispiritedly, "...of your life revolving in a continuous loop that consistently leads you back to square one?"
"Well..." Liz shrugged carelessly, "it-it's who were are, isn't it?"
"Maybe," Red wearily closed his eyes,"but we agree, we want something, just for us." he said. "A life that belongs solely to us... and no one else." he checked with her.
"I want that more than anything," she nodded, hope shining in her eyes. "You know that."
"Our lives have been reduced to mystery, betrayal and lies by circumstances beyond our control." he continued. "This is our chance to have something real and concrete."
"...But the Cabal," she voiced her fears, now that the danger had been brought to light.
She had been so deliriously happy and now...
"You want to face them with me?" he questioned, a grim light in his eyes. "Are you certain?"
Liz nodded strongly, her fingers curling into Red's back.
"Then you need to trust me," Red's deep voice soothed frayed nerves. "Trust my judgement. I've been playing the system since you were in grade school."
Ducking her chin, Liz nodded slowly.
"No, you listen to me," Red lifted her chin. "When we need to move, there is no time for hesitation." he said. "If I tell you to leave with Silas, you must do as I say. There is no middle ground."
Liz's brow furrowed, her indecision ratcheting up a notch.
"In some instances, we might need to separate," he explained, "I won't like it," he reiterated, "but it will ensure your safety, which will allow me to focus, get the job done... ensuring our reunion occurs rapidly."
She, too, did not like the idea, "The may just... leave us alone." she grasped at straws. "If they weren't sure before, they will know you possess the Fulcrum without doubt now."
"Yes," Red had taken that into account, "that alone may keep them in line."
"...But, you always have a contingency plan in place," she knew that now.
"I do," Red confirmed. "Trust my word, act quickly, knowing I will explain my reasoning... my decisions, the moment we're together and we may yet just win the war."
"Could you advise Silas discuss any given situation with me," Liz exhaled shakily. "Being kept in the dark, is worse than knowing what's happening in real time, Red."
"I will," Red promised. "I won't be from your side long," he assured. "It's the last thing I want, Elizabeth. You know that."
Liz's shoulders eased from their tense perch, "It's the last thing I want too."
She hugged him tightly, closing her eyes to the feel of the man.
"Red, we were so happy... I was so happy." she swallowed the threat of tears. "I hate this ruining our day."
He tightened his embrace, "Then, don't let it. Don't let them into our private life."
Liz frowned for the odd statement. Wasn't what they had just done?
"We have a plan..." Red read her mind. "We understand one another... we're on the same page. That alone gives us leverage."
Liz mustered her courage. "You're right," she nodded, leaning from him, forcing the hopelessness aside. "Of course... you're right."
"...Good girl," the man's approval meant everything to Elizabeth, she suddenly realized.
Liz nodded staunchly. "And what of the Bureau... your immunity deal?"
"Damn them!" Red growled. "Damn them and their fucking rules!"
She lifted concerned eyes. "They could imprison you... me."
"Not gonna to happen, baby." Red vowed. "Though, I would like to know your thoughts... if we had to, could you leave the task force behind?"
Looking at the ring on her finger, Liz allowed her thoughts free rein.
For months now, she had worked solo. While she missed Samar, Ress and Aram... the work itself, she could live without.
She still believed what she told Red on their first date. Her job with the Bureau was always hanging in the balance. But what Red offered... would last her a lifetime.
"We could still work the Blacklist," Red said, breaking into her silent meandering. "There are so many options open for that line of endeavor." he offered, "We could simply capture the bastards on our own, for that matter."
"And when we catch them," she hesitated," ... then what?"
"If you wish," Red acquiesced, "you could ship them to your team in a box," he sighed. "How you interpret that suggestion is up to you."
Were she honest with herself, Liz had wished for some suspects to be permanently placed 'in a box'. She tried not to dwell of those times...
"On a personal note, as my partner or wife, you face scrutiny from people you associate with... people you encounter on a daily basis." he bluntly reminded. "The stigma will be there no matter what we do."
The man had a point. "I've grown accustomed to the covert looks and constant rumors, Red." she dismissed.
"Why not take full advantage of it," he said, "really give them something to gossip about."
She couldn't help it when she released a small gurgle of amusement.
"This will shock the hell out of the conventional world, Lizzy... you and I." Red rather liked the idea of shaking things up, more than he originally believed.
"We know the truth, dammit." Red grumbled. "Do they matter to us, in the grand scheme of things?"
"They need to mind their own damn business." Liz lifted a defiant chin, then looked cautiously up at the man.
"We'll cross that bridge when it's on the horizon," Red said.
"Do you think," Liz ventured, "... we're moving too fast? It's only been two months. I don't want you to regret–"
"I've faced a lifetime of regrets, Elizabeth," Red said. "Marrying you, will not be one of them." he was positive.
"In fact, I believe had I waited longer to ask, it would have been my biggest regret ever." he leaned, kissing her soft lips.
"Dembe was right," he confessed, "you provide me with a hope and peace I never imagined I'd ever feel again..."
Leaning against the car's door, Red bracketed Lizzy's small body with his own larger one, his attention focused squarely on the woman's large blue eyes.
"You are the reason I get up in the morning." Red said. "You give me the willpower to continue the fight," he divulged his thoughts, "and a desire to live life to its fullest."
Reaching, she hooked her fingers on his belt, "...I feel the same. I really do."
"Lizzy... we have been given a second chance at life." he stated his belief. "One that will be full of laughter, joy and love."
"I think so too," she smiled warmly, feeling infinitely better now.
"Life has knocked us both down so many times. You understand me because of that fact, you get it...only you, baby." he stressed. "Why shouldn't we share that life together?"
Stepping, Liz wrapped her arms about his neck, crushing herself to his chest.
"I want to look back and have my memories filled with holiday celebrations and exciting adventures," he said, threading his fingers through her dark hair. "I want someone by my side who is there simply because she wants to be... with me."
Liz smiled softly, knowing Red, more than anyone, understood her dreams. He was the one who took them seriously, who wanted them as much as she, herself.
"I want to be the person you laugh with when life is ridiculous," he continued, "and the person you rely on to be there to hold you and wipe away your tears when life is cruel and unforgiving."
Tears of joy welled in her blue eyes.
"Even should we face difficult... painful moments," he stepped, caressing her cheek, "having you there by my side... there is nothing more I need to salve the wound."
Liz blinked at the threatening tears, hearing the hurt in the man's voice... but also relief and hope.
Even without a sheet of paper legally binding them together, Red was her one constant, she knew that without doubt.
"I want a life... a home with you." the man's tone was firm as he released a pent-up sigh.
"I want to lay claim and call you my wife," his deepened voice thrilled her, "... I want you to be the mother of my children, Elizabeth."
Liz's cheeks flushed. She burrowed her nose into his neckline to hide the fact.
"I want the last person I see in this life... to be you." his tone caressed her soul.
Liz's eyes glittered with tears, several of which escaped over the spiky lashes. She swallowed the lump in her throat, sniffing delicately.
"I want the person I spend the afterlife with... to be you." he studied Elizabeth's face with loving attention.
A cascade of emotion blanketed Liz. Even knowing the tribulations they would encounter, she felt strangely comforted knowing Red would be there with her, each step of the way.
With him by her side, she felt she could face anything.
"I want all of that Red... I do." she lifted to her toes, kissing his neckline lovingly. The man crushed her against his solid frame, holding her tight. "More than I can say, please believe that."
"I see in you my best-friend, confidante," he murmured softly, "... my lover," his smoldering eyes held hers steadily, "... my soul mate."
Her lips trembled with the need to weep for such moving sentiment.
"You," he canted his head, his eyes softening, "Elizabeth, you are my everything."
Red embraced the woman clinging to his solid frame. Closing his eyes, he rubbed his cheek against the soft down of her hair, smiling his contentment.
The pull of his scruff catching against the silky strands was a familiar sensation, as was Lizzy's scent tickling his senses and the feel of her body conforming to his own.
"You're going to marry me," though he meant only to confirm their engagement, he realized, once said... the statement had sounded like a declaration.
"Yes," she confirmed. "I would very much love to be your wife."
The simplicity of the statement brought a strong sting of emotions to Red's eyes. He blinked them back.
Clinging to one another, the two swayed quietly, each lost to the soft breathing of their partner and tranquilizing sound of the serenity surrounding them.
"Will you sign a prenuptial agreement?" Red asked solemnly, holding back his wry laughter.
Nodding slowly, Liz smiled lovingly up at the man, kissing his mouth.
"...No." she drawled. "Nice try though, but... in your dreams." she scoffed. "I do love you though... so much!"
Red laughed genuinely, his release coming in the form of a spirited imp of a brunette who always... always managed to pull him from his doldrums.
"That's pretty much what I thought you'd say," he nodded, his good humor returned. "So... you want more wine?"
"I would say, this is an occasion," she smiled up at him, "where champagne is in order. Don't you think?"
Red's eyes twinkled their delight, "...I do."
"Practice that line..." her eyes looked at him lovingly, "and put some feeling into it, Reddington. I'll not have you embarrassing me at the altar."
Rounding the corner leading to their room, Red wrapped his arm casually about Lizzy's waist as the woman tittered softly for the crude, off-color joke he whispered in her ear.
Pulling the keycard from his pocket, Red swiped it, ushering Lizzy into their room.
Red headed to the bar as Lizzy kicked her shoes free. The man came close with a couple drinks in his hands, directing her to the couch.
Liz sat, tucking her feet under her before taking her drink.
Glancing down at their clasped hands, Liz smiled softly, lifting gentle eyes. "Happy anniversary, Red."
Returning the gentle smile, Red leaned, meeting the woman in the middle, accepting her loving kiss.
"Happy anniversary, sweetheart." he said, kissing her brow before the woman scrambled off the couch.
"I have something," she had waited all day, excitement in her voice and mannerisms.
"I-I didn't know what to buy the man who has everything," she hurried to a couple of bags, hastily looking through them, "but I wanted to give you something to commemorate the occasion."
"Baby, you gave me the greatest gift I could receive when you said, yes." Red said, his eyes trailing after the woman.
"With that said," she blushed a charming pink, "I bet it didn't stop you from getting me something."
Red pushed himself erect, making his way to the safe. "Just a little something."
Returning post-haste, the man resumed his former position, facing an anxiously awaiting Elizabeth.
Liz's eyes brightened as Red held a decorative box out for her to take.
"Oh, me first?" she wriggled in her seat. "Really? Well... okay." she hastily agreed, grabbing the pretty box.
Chuckling for her eagerness, Red sipped his drink as Lizzy hastily tore at the ribbon, then slowly eased the box open.
"Oh, Red!" her entire manner altered to glowing radiance. "Red, it is just... amazing!" she struggled to place the watch on her wrist.
"I thought you might wear this to work." Red took over the task, describing the watch's features. "It also has the moon phases... and it's bullet proof."
He held his smile as the woman's head jerked upright, her eyes widening, "...Really?"
Laughing his delight, Red kissed the woman's palm, "I just wanted to see if you were paying attention." he glanced over the thick casing. "Do you like the style? I can return–"
Tsking, Liz kissed the man once more. "You know my style better that anyone, even me! Anything you chose is always perfect."
Red's eyes lit as Lizzy studied the boxes for a long moment before finally picking the smallest of the bunch.
It warmed him in ways he hadn't imagined... this gift exchange. It had been so long since he shared something of a personal nature, such as this, with a lover.
Oh, he gifted Madeline and others lovers with gifts, but the sentiment was never returned. Funny how he never noticed...
Until now.
Lizzy seemed to delight in giving just as much as the getting.
Red's heart warmed for the woman when she bit anxiously at her nail, waiting on his verdict as he swiftly unveiled his present.
Pulling the titanium Swiss army knife, lighter and cigar cutter free from their box, Red beamed his appreciation.
"This is perfection," he turned the objects in his hand, seeking out its intricacies and secrets. "This will be very useful to me, sweetheart."
"The man said they wouldn't rust or break," Liz relaxed some, recognizing Red's reaction was an honest one. "They also don't reflect light so if you ever need to use them for some clandestine reason... you can do so undetected."
"And you know I will." Flicking open the options available, Red grinned as he stumbled over the corkscrew, bottle opener and various blades. This would serve his needs very well indeed.
"You chose well," Red assured, ྭholding his toys up. "Look at that, as black as Silas' moods, no light reflection at all, as promised."
Pocketing his new accouterments, he offered his next gift... a little anxious himself.
He wasn't sure if she would like it, rethinking his previous choices.
While Elizabeth had been more bold here of late in regards to her attire and jewelry... she held a touch of classic style beneath the youthful slant.
Though he did chose a watch befitting that style, it was rather startling, now that he thought about it.
She gasped her awe, gently running her fingers over the delicate band and faceplate. "It's gorgeous!"
Easing the timepiece from its perch, Liz gawked at the intricate design and details. "It's so beautiful..."
She lay it across her wrist, swiveling it under the lamp beside her, her eyes shining as bright as the exquisite faceplate.
His shoulders relaxed from their tense perch as the woman's lips trembled and tears dotted her lashes.
"I don't know what to say," her eyes searched his face, floundering. She leaned, kissing the man softly.
"You said exactly what I wanted to hear," Red returned the affection, brushing a delicate finger against her flushed cheek.
Liz's heart fluttered, her happiness overwhelming her. The thought she was to be Red's wife, filled her with warmth and amazement.
Red's face gentled as the woman sniffled, the quiet of the room a perfect backdrop for the intimate moment.
Taking a bracing breath, staunchly wiping at her eyes, Liz determined to move matters along. There would be time for sentiment... they had the rest of their lives, after all.
"You have another gift." she sniffled impishly, hefting the heavy weight for the man to take. "I can't take all the credit for this one, Dembe and Silas helped me pick and chose."
Frowning slightly, Red had no idea of the suggestions those two could offer. Were it just Silas, he might have had a hunch what was in this box... and that it would be of an adult nature.
But with Dembe involved...
Red's curiosity was more than piqued. Pulling the bow, he lifted the lid...
"...Elizabeth," he stared down at the antique weaponry, actually at a loss for words. His brows lifted with shock and delight.
"Dembe intimated you had wished to begin a gun collection, but considering your nomadic lifestyle, there was no way to make that happen," she babbled to fill the silence, "well, not and enjoy seeing it when you wanted."
Red ran his finger over the rich, smooth wood; inhaling the soft traces of walnut.
"I thought, since we have a home, maybe now... you could start one?" she trailed off as the man continued to stare at the large box on his lap.
Pulling one of two German Flintlock Pistols from their original factory case, Red turned the heavyweight in his hands, not quite believing he held such a treasure.
Everything from the intricate engraving to their condition was extraordinary. The craftsmanship superb.
There were also some known to be well into the tens of thousands of dollars. How the hell had Lizzy afforded something so expensive?
He looked back and forth between the very generous gift and Elizabeth. "How did you..."
"Silas heard the guy that owned them needed to sell them," she said. "Dembe acted as my negotiator, we settled on a deal and... I got them." she shrugged wanly.
"Elizabeth," he smoothed a hand over the smooth wood and brass embellishments, his brow darkening, "these things are rare, they must have cost..."
He did feel better knowing Dembe brokered the deal though, as the man would know not to bankrupt the woman. Though Red made sure Elizabeth had access to his money for whatever she desired, he knew without doubt, she would have wished to purchase the gift herself.
"Oh, the guy was in trouble, needed some quick cash," Liz shrugged carelessly, "or something like that." she waved off any concern. "We had to throw in a place for him to lie low for a while... and a weapon."
Blinking his shock, Red couldn't quite grasp Lizzy sat in on such a transaction... for him.
"Dembe assured me the guy's weakness is gambling," she continued on as though she brokered these types of deals everyday, "and the weapon was for protection from a guy named Big Mario... Big Luigi... something like that."
Rubbing his eyes, Red chuckled, enjoying the story as much as the gift itself.
"Oh, speaking of which," she remembered, "Dembe told me to tell you, this guy is holed up in your apartment in Reno for a couple weeks? You're not using it, right, so..."
Utterly charmed by the gift and Elizabeth's uncanny knack to conform to any situation... Red had to smile.
After several moments of silence, Liz grimaced, "Do... do you like them?"
"I love them, baby," Red set them aside, gathering Lizzy in his arms, "... and I love you."
Red kissed the woman for some countless moments before finally allowing her a chance to breath properly.
"Thank you, for such a thoughtful gift." Red held her eyes, hoping to convey how deeply thankful he was. Not only for the gifts... but for the reason they were exchanging gifts in the first place.
"Really?" she brightened, settling more into his lap, resting her arm along his shoulder. "You, sir, are hard to buy for, let me tell ya!"
"Be that as it may," he assured wholeheartedly, "I absolutely love your choices."
"I was so hoping you would." Liz clasped her hands together.
"You'll be hard pressed to top this one next year." he teased.
"We'll see," she gestured somewhere behind her, "I have one more."
She took his hand, tugging him upward. ྭFollowing her lead, Red trailed after the woman as she guided him to their room and a package on the bed she pulled from the closet.
Tugging the large bow free... a slow smile lighted his features as he pulled back the colorful sheets of paper lining the box.
"Well," he teased, holding the delicate, filmy garment aloft to better see the full picture, "it's lovely... but I don't think it'll fit me, sweetheart."
Liz pursed her lips to hold her smile. "But it will fit me." she blinked innocent eyes.
Red held the black satin slip against Lizzy's frame, nodding critically. "Let's put it on... and see."
Liz smiled, pleased by the raspy warmth of Red's voice and the way he was looking at her now.
"I was tinkering with the idea of presenting you with a new teddy," she bit her lip thoughtfully, "or a pair of crotchless panties...but I saw this and thought you may enjoy its added benefits."
"I like the way you tinker," he approved of those items as well.
Though, if the way he was fingering the satiny fabric said anything... he appeared ྭjust as eager and aroused by the little satin half-slip, as if he had been gifted something more risqué.
"You're supposed to pull these here," she pointed to the sides where long satin ties fell in a sensual drape, "to unwrap your actual gift, which would be... well... me."
"Then this is a perfect choice for me," Red rumbled intimately, "as I could think of no better gift to receive... than you."
"You know it.." she lifted a tart brow.
Lifting the scrap of fabric which were questionable panties, questionable because so little fabric existed... he noted another layer to explore.
"Well, well... what do we have here?" he unsettled the tissue paper beneath, unveiling a new array of toys.
Unlike past lovers, Liz knew Red was more than accepting of sex toys and welcomed their presence in their bedroom, for which she was eternally grateful.
Not that she couldn't climax with Red without the assistance of toys, ྭshe could, repeatedly.
No, what she loved about Red was he wholeheartedly encouraged her to orgasm without restraint when they made love. If she wished to use toys to achieve that goal, Red approved.
"There are some exquisite choices here." Red said of the numerous toys available.
"Would you like to me slip this on for you," her fingers danced lightly over the wispy negligee. "Won't that be fun?" she offered, trying and failing to hide a small yawn.
Red's eyes gentled on the woman, "I would love nothing more," he spoke the truth, "and yes, fun would be had by all."
Standing docilely, she watched as Red slowly removed her clothing before tugging her to the bathroom where he quickly shed his own thin veneer of civilization.
"I fear though," he continued, directing the woman to the shower, "you may have over-exerted yourself today."
"Me?" she scoffed at the notion. "No way, Jose."
Turning the water on, Red moved them backwards under the heated spray... Liz sighed her contentment.
"I'm fine," she said, stretching her arms languidly upward, pulling her hair out of the spray.
"You are that," he murmured, soaping them both quickly, mindful of Lizzy's exasperated sigh.
"As much as I want to explore that with you even as I speak," he told the truth, "... I do not believe I'm at peak efficiency at this moment in time."
"All right, I'm being pushy" she acquiesced, "but soon, I want to try new things and push new boundaries."
"Try new things," Red murmured against her soft mouth, "... push new boundaries."
"That's what I said..." she kissed him right back.
"Don't lose that thought." Red pointed a stern finger her way.
